What ever happened to Admiration?
Posted:

I have to disgree with many of these common statements. Some sound like they are using "humble" or "modest" as an excuse. Did you know many online dating sites have volunteerism on their checklists of interests? It is not just me that seems to think this is important, nor do I think people are bragging.
I admire people who are proud of the time they give to others, and displaying this on your list of interests does not mean your bragging, but that it is an interest you value, and look for others who share. I may just be looking to meet someone who will attend community meetings with me..I'm not, but if I was it would be the same as looking for someone who would join my baseball team. It is an interest.

Agreed, some people feel rewarded by the responses and the "feel good" effects they get for their behaviour, and for the change of circumstances one can bring to another because of it. :) I don't believe that everyone is rewarded to the same extent. I do feel that self-less acts happen when one perhaps does not enjoy the task, but sacrifices their time because they know what it does for another. Good post sir! hehe

Do women date single dad's who live with there kids
Posted:

I would only date a single dad if he lived "WITH" his kids, (at least part-time).
A father who does not live with his kids at all... would be difficult for me to respect. IMHO

Reactive

Well I admire this site for freedom of speech. :)
I have a suggestion.
I think pulling threads because they are redundant is a reactive approach. There are hundreds of pages one would have to view to see if their post is a common thread. A suggestion and a preventative approach to the site would be to have a list of common threads, this would be respectful to forum visitors, and would offer convenience when looking for a subject of interest. If this list already exsists, then my appologies as I have not landed on the convenience.
I appreciate the forums, and this site for offering the many subjects.
Thanks. :)

It has been my honor to know many people, both men and women, who I truly admire.
I agree, I also admire these gestures, however it just seems that admiration is not held in its deserved priority when people are looking for love. IMHO

and if they brag about it, then they are not really doing out of the goodness of their heart so it kind of defeats the purpose!!!

I think people that volunteer to drive their grandkids for fieldtrips are amazing, and same with single parents. Parents in general, as long as they are "beneficial parents", throwing the odd chance to help their kids school or coach a soccer game. These things are admirable, but people seldom say on their profile that they are Beaver Leaders..etc..and I think saying so, is important.

It's been my experience that most folks who volunteer don't go bragging about it.
I really don't think it is bragging, but a personality characteristic, and even more valuable then posting what one does for a living. IMHO

I am so attracted to men who do more with their lives then live them selfishly. So many seem to have interests in "working out, sports, traveling, pubs" etc.. But what about volunteerism, or community initatives" ? It is just hard for me to find men on the web site that are admirable, IMHO.
Do other women or men men find this characteristic important as well?

Shakespeare boasted that as a country schoolmaster he had never blotted out a line. Said Ben Johnson when he heard of this: “I wish he’d blotted out a thousand.”

Daydream
Have you ever tried to see the stars cross eyed?
Like a million lights fading to white speckles
you know,
the kind of webbed and scattered spots
you might see
on mom’s leftover lasagne
sitting in the fridge for weeks...
Yuck!
Only you know
when you lay in a field of grass
each blade taunts the back of your ears
Twitch, Scratch,
the radiance you breathe is fresh,
each beam of inspiration.

A Worm Wiggles
I once put a fake worm,
On mom’s toilet seat,
Then hid past the corner,
GOSH... she did shriek!
She chased me to the kitchen,
then out the back gate,
she caught me, then tickled,
till I was pink in the face,
I couldn't stop laughing,
Or squirm out of her hold,
But it never did stop me,
I still played my jokes.

Weeping Willow tree,
wave gently over me,
hide me from the breeze.
I wish to serve cake, peppermint tea,
Delighted you munch so happily
no other place I would rather be..
then sheltered in wispy custody.

For Just a Glimpse in Wonderland
I would trade one hundred days,
to burn with such curiosity
descend down a rabbits gap,
greeted with orange marmalade,
crumbs of cake upon my dress,
to race the quickest in the quest,
And oh, the grandest poems,
riddles, rhymes, at best...
sip the most delicious tea,
Hatter to distract,
a pleasure it would be,
memories... and silly chat,
laugh at the crimson queen...
a bliss to see indeed.

The Sneak with the Morning Paper.
I once had a kitty,
She slept on my bed,
I knew that she loved me,
Though she never quite said,
She kept my toes warm, ,
And sometimes my knees,
She would purrrrr me to sleep,
If I petted with “ please”
And on Saturday mornings,
When mom made us eggs,
I would put her in dresses,
Though hairy her legs!
As I got older,
And she much more wise,
My kitty... though loved me,
Discovered outside!

LOGICAL ASPIRATIONS
I once saw a man with his book
he recited his words by the brook,
the geese stopped to listen,
their feathers all glistened,
so he petted them all round the nook.

she sparkles up the glasses
and sweeps by the front door
brushes under the dogs collar
vacumes up the mites
then asks for but 10 dollars

Grand theft at the opera
The room was silent, though many movements..
and the jaws of a thousand people motioned like a thousand fish
and the waves flowed towards the stage where she spazzed in her silence,
long displays of voicless vibrating tonsils.
I looked around to find the criminal,
but the doors were all wide open.

Chateau De La Gardine
Flourished, the vintage affection of elegant talent
drizzled lightly in the exploration of a drowning yacht,
resurfaced, only through amiable bailing,
continual, until the waves desist,
the ocean arid,
then lingers,
submerged in the dip of the shoreline.

A Bitter Brew
Outside there is a small trail
and six steps
separating me from those that pass on by
impossible to hide behind my ruby house coat
and synthetic flavoured,
bitterly savoured morning coffee
An old man walks by
paced in slow rhythmic strides in order to balance
the three bags of his aluminium collection
toes emerging from the tips of his tattered shoes
and as he spies me,
we engage in observations
He is courteous as he desists
lowers his head in his strides
continues to descend down the hill
around the corner of my house
heat scorching
and all I can hope for
Is that he does not rip my garbage apart.

My Secret
I gaze down from the hill,
I'm still...and so amazed...
nobody knows my secret,
that I carry everyday,
the corner of my mouth does rise,
at the very thought...
my day is but a true disguise,
excitement it has brought...
and even if they knew,
even if... I told them so...
my secret is astonishing,
and would be unbelieveable.

It is only a geranium
blooms with steady scorches
unswerving loyal drizzles
and swells with glorious colours
that seldom waver to impressions
as one passes by
I am only there to contribute,
take from such beauty all that I can endure
and perhaps as I gain courage
seed a few more each weekend
until the mornings consist of fresh perceptions
captivating admiration
and if I need to escape,
walk out the back gate,
it is only because
I often forget to remind myself
it is only a geranium.

Admonished
They spread across the table
to sway injuries of oak stained smothers,
Just as though my values in obscure realities,
comfortable by the sound of thrashing drums,
the acoustic vigilant in the distance...
The spread carried little suspense...
and emerged in the deck,
a prophet
somehow who silenced the room
as he turned his back,
then unearthed a whispered truth,
admonished such self-deceit
in an underworld of resisted certainty,
wasting the lives of those I love
countering gifts of wisdom
No wheels would spin he told,
Though quickly change is in each gust,
Reached deep into the robe, and revealed
2 wands I now hold
upside down in doubt of all my courage,
defeated behind a coverlet of denial.
Yet in the distance...
as I consumed what I knew to be true,
There was glimpse
a High Priest who smiled,
delivered 9 wands of fire
told me experience
will draw me out of any doubt,
and so my thoughts then vestured on you,
allowed myself to retrace,
and I stirred with belief as I requested faith,
Then dared to ask a Priest so High
to show me what love might convey...
and upon waters of tainted dreams
and the lady who should carry hope
Was fear..
then in a moment of vulnerability
the moon pounced
just to tell me I was fooling myself,
and priest laid the last sign for me that night..
my duty to accept the card of disillusioned.
but I don't know.

The Potion
Drink this potion,
recieve within the sweetness of taste,
as it lingers on your tongue,
feast on the warmth as it invades,
and sooths the space where your heart once was,
it shall drench to the depth of your whole,
absorb into your veins,
like a sponge your bones,
guided to your minds delight,
overwhelm you with passion...
that was once in your life,
the dreams that gave you much insight.
Swallow,
no distance inbetween can conquor the power it contains,
for like an ocean...
it shall encompass your island of pain,
submerging,
giving you motion,
eagerly take it in,
let it awake your identity,
and allow me to be,
a sliver...
of a memory,
in that space where your heart, faith,
your desire once belonged
Waist not a drop.

The Shattered Radiance of Patience.
Impatient is the willow tree...
waits for the wind to calm,
tangled in the depth of it,
exhausted... when it’s gone,
Impatient is the sunrise,
as evening lingers long,
striving for the countryside,
swelling its enchanted song,
shattered...
when it’s done.

The Panel
The morning was hopeful,
hundreds of round tables,
complementary breakfast,
glorious hot coffee,
and murmurs of conversation that
vibrated in ceiling lights worth thousands.
The panel spoke confidenty on
building low income housing,
and community initiatives,
then worked on empowering the people,
as they attempted to sell their projects,
flipping slides so swiftly,
one would have to buy their books.
Somehow, just around noon,
they managed to speak
on the city starving around us,
and the server leaned to ask,
how I would like my steak done.
There should have been a strategy,
while speaking to a room of a thousand people,
on how our city holds addictions,
mental illnesses, and homeless
that continue to be 'a problem, '
(there is no funding available
for social services in the district) .
There should have been direction,
but without a change of attitude,
lost will be community,
values diminishing,
as we continue
to fear our safety
going door to door.
They gave us all a vision,
but I had been sold this morning,
as I was carefully uncrumpling each bill...
once rapt for a solution.

The Thistles
This hill I gaze upon,
abound of thorns, thistles,
virgin grass,
an endless sky of uncertainty,
a river flowing with years...
of innocence and dreams,
and the absurd evidence of society,
that could not buy this beauty before me,
or distract my thoughts from you,
What have you done?
Once strong against the feast of wind,
cold to a man's seduction,
abandoned all temptations,
cursed the one's who tried to steal...
the dream I had of love,
the inspiration I knew of.
How did this come to be?
The moment you had tangled me,
and I shook you from my eye's desire,
cursed,
then listened as you spoke,
your spirit undisguised,
the child in my mind,
she was yours,
you were hers,
and she was a place....
my child layed his dreams.
The water sings.
Now I wish the grass to blaze,
build a dam upon the sky,
capture the river in a sealed glass,
and run....
or lay naked in the thistles,
release the fear,
flowing through my blood.
Weak against the faintist wind...
I must go home.

Would men give a woman a chance at a relationship if she didn't really know what a healthy one was?
Posted:

Good question.
In my opinion, the average man who was raised in a healthy enviroment, and had a healthy lifestyle may not be so quick to give someone that opporunity. The highly intelligent man perhaps would see the benefits. Think of the character you have. :)
We all love to appreciate and be appreciated.

Political Poems : Give Em Hell
Posted:
7/12/2006 9:23:35 PM
Here is an amazing political poem written by Ben Cassel
Fourth of July, 2006
Thirty five years ago today
in the soft dawn fog of the Embarcadero
I crouched with a small group of men
surrounded by a concentric circle of bodies
wearing ponchos from Avenida Revolución,
sack dresses, flared pants with paisley inserts and patches
and one magnificent cape borrowed from the costume shop
of the Old Globe Theatre.
We men started a small fire,
rose, backed away and joined the others
to watch the flames.
Someone pulled lighter fluid from under her clothes
so the fire would continue.
The ashes of draft cards lay in chaos
on lightly scorched brickwork
that had lain there since Alonzo Horton.
On either side flew the flag
of the nation we loved.
The flags flew safe from the flames.
2
Six years beyond those days,
in the haze of San Antonio’s humid June
a sergeant younger than I
ordered me to surrender my draft card,
as he did all newly sworn volunteer Airmen
who marched up to his table.
I said, “Sarge, those records were destroyed
in a fire near a courthouse.”
He smiled as he gave me my identification card
and said “Gotta watch out for fires.”
I marched away between two flags,
proud of past and future.
3
Now in all the fires that leave chaos,
in all the shame and glory,
in all the sacrifice demanded but not undertaken
by arrogant, grinning men whose offices are larger than they,
the flag is just the same. I gather my students,
poor, Hispanic, victimized by dollars sent by rich fools
to Mesopotamia, not to the future,
and targeted by recruiters who strut through the school knowing
they are more welcome here than Physics.
I shall build for them an altar of flames
to consume the laws and orders that shame us
to the world and to our own children
and I shall back away from the flames,
standing in the safety of my nation’s flag.

I think it is great to e-mail forum friends, but personally I think this thread is devoid of any real subject, kind of like a chatting room. Just my opinion though.

How many men actually like women that are opinionated?

My Island, sorry if I did not make myself clear. By "rude and crude" originally posted, I meant not the personality type of ignorance, or arrogance. Some men seem intimidated by women who do give valid perspectives, (not always right), but valid. Looking at the stolen thread above though...seems to answer my question on majority.

I'm not talking about the rude and crude personality spectrum, I'm talking about the women who are independent of a man's defense. Can stand up for herself, and her beliefs. Do men "really" like intelligence, or would they rather the woman sitting in a hair salon, chatting it up with her girlfriend about how you bought her flowers, and paid for her new BMW.
I'm just wondering the popular vote these days.

How do you break an obsession with someone?

Determination. Do not allow yourself to have any contact, or any communication with the person. Keep moving forward, and fill your life with distractions. This site probably a good move.

New to this site
So... this forum looks like it is used for self-promotion, lol.
Chateau De La Gardine
Flourished, the vintage affection of elegant talent
drizzled lightly in the exploration of a drowning yacht,
resurfaced, only through amiable bailing,
continual, until the waves desist,
the ocean arid,
then lingers,
submerged in the dip of the shoreline.
