Lest we Forget
Posted:

My father was a veteran from WW2. He lied to get in also, and was shooting the enemy at age 17, some face to face. He passed away a few years ago, and I think he was relieved to go as he could never forget, even though it was a war, he never lived a normal life. I never understood my father until I was older, as a selfish teenager I thought him a coward, and selfish to drink the way he did, but I now know he felt quilt, and shame the majority of his life.
Of course I will remember him always, and may be never forget what all the brave veterans have done for us. God bless them all and may all those like my father find peace themselves.

You're a Shirley Temple
A non-alcoholic beverage made up of ginger ale, grenadine syrup and a stemmed cherry. You're spiritual, sensible and at one with nature, especially birds and flowers, ahhh you are the embodiment of purity.
...ok, no more tests, I now know why my sex life doesn't exist.

I am refreshingly different, some people don't appreciate that. My sharp honesty gets up some peoples noses, while others really enjoy it. I am something of an acquired taste.

He's Just Not That Into You

The list is fine, I have a hunch it was probably made up by someone who has been there, done that. I was in a long term marriage, and could write just such a list...now that is, after living through it all and being able to look back at all the mistakes made by both of us.
Unfortunately, its people like me who will read these lists, already knowing everything on it is true because we went through the pain and the failed relationship. At 20, I probably would not have given the list a second look, no more than I listened to advice or warnings given to me at that time. Perhaps if I had gone by such a list things would have turned out differently, ..........nah............I'm not practical enough, my heart would have made me do it anyway. But then again, because I know most things on the list are true, I hesitate entering into another relationship.

Got this idea out of a flyer, did a search and nothing came up so here goes. I'll start us off:
You know you're in Nova Scotia when:
If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you live in Nova Scotia.
You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
Driving is better in the winter because the pot holes are covered with snow.

Jokes
Posted:
11/6/2006 5:45:14 PM
LOL, this one reminds me of one...I like jokes with morals.
There was once a bird that decided not to fly south for the winter. He figured he had enough of flying south every winter and decided to stay on the farm, figuring there was no big deal anyway.
So he stayed. Winter came and was very cold; the bird had never felt such cold weather and was afraid that he might freeze to death. He realized he had made a big mistake by staying and headed to a near by barn for shelter. On the way to the barn it started to snow and the bird collapsed on the ground, cold, tired and hungry.
As he lay there a cow, feeling the need to relieve himself, crapped right on the bird.
The bird was angry at first, wondering who had done this horrible thing to him, but the crap was too heavy and he couldn't free himself. After a while the crap began to warm him and he forgot all about his anger. In fact he was so warm he began to sing.
A buzzard overheard the singing and went to investigate. He cleared away the crap and ate the little bird.
The moral of this story: Just because someone craps on you, it does not make them your enemy and just because someone gets you out of the crap, it does not make them your friend.

The best advice you've received?
Posted:
11/5/2006 5:23:49 AM
From Al-anon,
"let go and let God"
From my mom when I was going through a really bad divorce,
"everything always comes out in the wash sooner or later, might not be as clean as we like, but comes out none the less, so stay true to yourself, and honest and don't let what others say bother you"
and from my minister:
We all meet our maker some day, so let it go and let God handle it.
I live by these, I have to, I'm the type of person who worries about way too much so have to keep these quotes in mind.

Isn't It Ironic...
Posted:
11/5/2006 3:40:55 AM
Ironic,
I headed out to the meet & great in Kentville last night, but when I pulled into the parking lot my Ex's car was there. I wanted to meet and possibly make some friends, and I was going to go in anyway, but thought twice about it, and came back home instead. I'm sorry I missed it, but hopefully there will be another one. I take it as a sign, not the right time yet. I know he wouldn't have had a problem with me being there(maybe), but I decided to give him his space, so instead, I logged in here and got hit on by some young guy. It was a good laugh anyway.
I guess my point is I don't have a pic posted, I keep my POFing private, and I respect those on here who want to do the same. I've meant different POFers at Tim's, or recognized them at the mall, etc, and have gotten a second look or a "smile" from them...so my point...just because I don't post a pic, doesn't mean I'm a pig. I'm only looking for friends and emailers so I don't think a pic makes a difference.

What are the things you do that drives others crazy.......
Posted:

I live, that drives my ex nuts.
Seriously, I try to stay positive and always look for the better side of everything and everyone. That annoys people. I don't like to talk about other people behind their backs, unless its positive, and people get annoyed with me because they can't draw me into their negative conversations. Make sence?

Stupid Things
Posted:
9/5/2006 3:16:37 PM
Well, I've done a few, usually when I'm still half asleep. I am a very organized person so I always had a routine in the mornings, get up, go to bathroom, wash hands, make my drip coffee, get my shower, get dressed and ready for work, then enjoy my coffee.
One morning, I made my coffee as usual, when I got out of the shower I could smell my coffee and rushed to get ready and get my first cup. Well, I had to mop it up off the counter and the floor and off the cubboards, etc. because after I poured the water in and turned it on, I sat the pot on the counter and not under the drip. I never got my coffee that morning...not a good day at work. Just seemed to go downhill from there.
I now have a drip coffee maker that "does not" drip unless the pot is on it properly. Good thing too, because I have done the exact same thing often.
Another: anyone else ever walk directly into a perfectly clean full length glass door at a mall? When, at Christmas time of course, when the mall is completely packed, and it happens to be the only store not open for midnight madness.
Its good I can laugh at it now.

funny body changes
Posted:
8/28/2006 4:10:43 PM
Funny body changes??I don't think they are so funny, just things I have to live with.
I forget what my natural hair color is, I've been turning grey since I was 35. Most people loose hair, I have more hair now than I ever had, everywhere. I have to pluck, wax away, peel away just so I don't look like a total fuzz ball.
My boobs are twice the size, which when I was 20 would have been great, now they just get in the way, and are so heavy, I now know why cross your heart, under wire was invented.
I have moles and warts and dark spots, crooked toes, surgery scars, tri-focals and half the memory I had 20 years ago.
I still look in the mirror every morning and smile at myself, because theres not a darn thing I can do about any of it and I'm just happy to be healthy. One thing I do still have is my health.

OK,
My home town was Scotch Village. Have no idea why, but if you think we have some weird names to figure out , take a visit to Newfoundland. "Come by chance", it actually is a town, and "Dildoe", I think thats' the way they spell it. So who or what do you think came up with those names? LOL

Toilet Paper - which way does it hang?
Posted:
7/30/2006 6:58:46 PM
OK....
I was once told to hang the toilet paper over, as it is more sanitary, you actually touch less of the roll. That way the germs(or whatever) are not spread to the next person to use the roll. Just the thoughts of that make me switch mine to always hang over if someone puts it on the holder differently.
I was also told once that the toilet paper "hung over" was "well hung". My mother actually told me that.....LOL.

Mice in walls?
Posted:
7/23/2006 5:42:29 PM
Ever go to the zoo? Try and get some lion's mane and put it in a closit or somewhere where you won't pick it up later and throw it out. Just the smell of the mane will scare away anything and keeps it away. I've had a piece in my house for years, still works.
Don't frown, just the smell of it when I brought it home made my dog go nuts. I actually got the idea from a woman I worked with in New Minas and I thought she was nuts when she told me about it, but the mice were driving me out of my house, so I tried it....it really does work.

Rainy Days
Posted:
7/21/2006 12:28:26 PM
Ok, I'll give this a try, it is pelting down pain here in the valley right now,
What does everyone do on rainy days? My ex and I used to love rainy days, we used to stay in the sac most of the day...but now that I don't have a man, I get up early and do housework, that way I can go outside on sunny days. I also bake, or cook.....oh this sounds so boring, I get depressed just writing it.
Help out there, give me some ideas to do with myself this weekend.

I think its probably about even, everyone does it, just to save face or to avoid a heated discussion. The old saying "tell them what they want to hear", never the truth. "truth hurts" and most people don't like to hurt those they love....and around and around we go.
