Are looks important when looking for friends?

Looks shouldn't matter whether it's friends or relationship... It's about more than what's on the outside...

Pros and Cons of Friends With Benefits

Googled the big word as another poster used it. It was during a time in a four month span my relationship of 30 years ended, I lost my job of 24 years and my mom was diagnosed with Dementia and died in August of 08. Think maybe I became a mental terrorist to myself.... Less than that have brought other people to their knees... With me it just screwed up my head to the point I probably didn't think at all.........FOR A MINUTE........

Thank you, thank you..... It's all about your outlook.. Mine was pretty screwed up after I lost my mom in August 08 but as they say time is a healer and each day gets a tad easier..
Now what did I do with the stink bait? I'm out to snag a sucker fish............. Isn't that a carp in fish terminology?

What is Narcissism?

?Written by Dr. Sam Vaknin

Part 1: About Narcissism
Part 2: Symptoms of Narcissism

About Narcissism

A pattern of traits and behaviors which signify infatuation and obsession with one's self to the exclusion of all others and the egotistic and ruthless pursuit of one's gratification, dominance and ambition.

Most narcissists (75%) are men.

NPD is one of a "family" of personality disorders (formerly known as "Cluster B").

Other members: Borderline PD, Antisocial PD and Histrionic PD.

NPD is often diagnosed with other mental health disorders ("co-morbidity") - or with substance abuse, or impulsive and reckless behaviors ("dual diagnosis").

NPD is new (1980) mental health category in the Diagnostic and Statistics Manual (DSM).

There is only scant research regarding narcissism. But what there is has not demonstrated any ethnic, social, cultural, economic, genetic, or professional predilection to NPD.

It is estimated that 0.7-1% of the general population suffer from NPD.

Pathological narcissism was first described in detail by Freud. Other major contributors are: Klein, Horney, Kohut, Kernberg, Millon, Roningstam, Gunderson, Hare.

The onset of narcissism is in infancy, childhood and early adolescence. It is commonly attributed to childhood abuse and trauma inflicted by parents, authority figures, or even peers.

There is a whole range of narcissistic reactions - from the mild, reactive and transient to the permanent personality disorder.

Narcissists are either "Cerebral" (derive their narcissistic supply from their intelligence or academic achievements) - or "Somatic" (derive their narcissistic supply from their physique, exercise, physical or sexual prowess and "conquests").

Narcissists are either "Classic" - see definition below - or they are "Compensatory", or "Inverted" - see definitions here: "The Inverted Narcissist".

NPD is treated in talk therapy (psychodynamic or cognitive-behavioral). The prognosis for an adult narcissist is poor, though his adaptation to life and to others can improve with treatment. Medication is applied to side-effects and behaviors (such as mood or affect disorders and obsession-compulsion) - usually with some success.

A tattoo doesn't make a person.... I would rather be in the company of a decent caring human being with ink all over them than to be with a self centered, judgmental, egotistical a$$hole..............

JB: I got my first tattoo while I was married and it was on a whim. Wished I had read your response before I stayed married to him for 25 years after the inking took place.... And by the way he cheated on me not the other way around. Wonder if the tattoo made him do it... Just a thought!!! What the heck is a bad boy image? Someone who has tattoos, who doesn't wear a suit everyday. Define the term to me..... I'd like to know if that's what I'm attracted to.... Next tattoo will be on my forehead: I always seem to fall for a$$holes. Priceless...

Pretty much how mine came about... The only real problem we had was the head games he would try to play. I ended the sex part but told him we would remain friends and I would still continue to care for his child. His response was he'd make other arrangements....At the beginning we agreed that if we wanted to date other people just let the other know, so after a couple of months I had my first date in years and the FWB tells me he'd rather I didn't go and if I did the sex between us was over. It was a head game through out the entire friendship so it was better to remove myself from the equation..... I rather have the whole cake not the crumbs......

I myself have a few discreetly placed tattoos and 20 years from now I'm not gonna care what they look like. I'll probably have Dementia and won't remember them anyway... My daughters both also have tattoos and like stated earlier it could be worse.. They could be strung out on drugs, be alcoholics, so I'll take the worst of the evils... At least I'm not gonna spend 10's of thousands of dollars on botox, butt jobs, liposuction, only to have gravity hit again in a few years and I'm back to looking exactly as God intended. Saggy boobs, saddlebag ass, and enough wrinkles that my face looks like a road map......

As I said he was trying to be a player(not that he is). Neither of us dated anyone while this arrangement was in place and if I moved on to a meaningful relationship it wouldn't be to come back to him..... The reason I suggested that he thought he was a player was because of remarks he would make at times...

Agree with that... I believe that was his trying to be a player, but you can't play someone who is not willing to play... Anyways I gained a lot of knowledge and he lost a friend out of stupidity.........

As for me it's a matter of likes and dislikes.. I didn't get mine to impress anyone, nor to disgust anyone. It was something I wanted and I went with it. They can all be covered and neither one makes me less a person... I agree that the majority(and I didn't say all) of people that tattoos disgust are the older generation. I can't believe I just said that... I'm 52.. LOL...
It's like a female having her privates pierced can be revolting to some and a big turn on for others.... It's a matter of what's right for that particular individual... As for me it's a case of mind over matter... I don't mind and if you can't accept me for what I am you don't matter...

Cons:
#2: I agree as for a minute I was in that type of situation and when I did start dating he just pointedly told me no more sex........... All I said was I'm going on a date, I'm not going out to have sex... Then there's the head games he liked to play...... Don't you know how I really feel about you? Yadie, yadie, yadie.... Yes I know we are friends was my reply. Needless to say this friendship is on the brink of self destruction..................

I wanted to ask what the views on friends with benefits are. What are the ups and downs of this type of friendship? Is it just a meaningless way to have sex based on the fact that there is no relationship issues to get in the way? So tell me what you think, is this a healthy way to conduct a friendship?

Responding To Someone Who Is In Denial
Posted: 1/2/2009 6:00:03 AM
As for me love and honor mean just that. I was married for 30 years and never once cheated even though he cheated many times.. I ask myself numerous times what did I do wrong? Never once realizing at the time hell it wasn't me... It was his insecurities, his lack of self worth.. Now I'm happy to say he's with a woman that cheats on him(he's aware of the fact) she openly admitted to him she was with him for his money. I'll leave him to weed out his overgrown garden......

prince: There arrangement was to love and honor. Do I believe she knows? No I don't believe she does, but as you've stated it's best to stay out of it... My reason for staying out of it is because I remember what it was like when it happened to me now that I've given it some thought.. She's a smart lady and she'll figure it out on her own... And my friendship stays in tack..

Responding To Someone Who Is In Denial
Posted: 12/30/2008 6:34:59 AM
A friend of mine husband is cheating on her and she chooses not to see it. Should I try to make her face reality? I'd like some honest opinions on this touchy subject... Below is what I've figured to do in this situation...

There are times when denial is the only link to sanity or stability, and it must be preserved. Then on other occasions, to break the bubble of illusion can be a loving thing. Either way it is risky to awaken a dreamer. As her need of denial is intense(and it is) she's gonna lash out at the one who threatens it's validity.

Any sound advice would be appreciated...
