Practicing Celibacy am I alone!

As a person of faith, this can be a hard issue (no pun intended). Accroding to my belief system, sexual intercourse (once married) is not just the physical joining of man and woman, but the unification of their souls, creating one new being, united under God.
This provides many challenges for those of us practicing sexual abstinence and waiting for marriage: conrtolling your natural urges, avoiding temptation and the desires of the flesh, and knowing where the line is drawn within pre-marriage relationships are a few examples. Obviously celibacy and abstinence have postivie effects in that you ovoid STDs, unwanted pregnancy and the baggage that sometimes follows sexual relationships, but the desire for sex can -if you let it- consume the greater part of your life. In a society where temtation is everywhere, porn is only a click away and casual sex is not only tolerated but encouraged, the ability to discipline yourself sexually is becoming more and more difficult.
This also raises the issue about whether or not it is WORTH abstaining from sexual activity and the fear that if you save yourself for marriage, you might not enjoy sex with your chosen spouse, or you might not be any good at it. I've heard the scenario raised about the "test drive" many times, and in a way it makes sense. I guess you have to take it on faith that your perserverance will be rewarded and that you will grow together within the relationship; emotionally, spiritually and sexually.
Speaking for myself, I find it an important part of my Christianity to be sexually abstinent, but I'll be the first to admit that it is a massive struggle (especially when single); enough of one to make me wonder at times if it is worth it. Hopefully it is...

LOVE the taste of charcoal BBQ or campfire; the smell, the mood is a little different as it seems more rustic... There's just something more natural about it, and the taste is perefection.

a few more options for physical description...
Posted:
3/30/2008 3:49:06 PM
hidee ho... I'd like the admins to consider adding a few extra options as far as the drop-down lists in the physical description section of the profiles is concerned.
Specifically, I'm thinking for those men, like myself, who lie somewhere between the "a few extra pounds" and "Big and tall" area. I'm not tall, where I am certainly big, but not fat. I guess I'd be considered built like a linebacker or "stocky".
Also, how about a "shaved head" option for those of us who aren't bald, but prefer a close shave?
Finally, how about a description for the ladies between "a few extra pounds" and "BBW"; something like "curvy" or "voluptuous" to indicate that she has a little extra in all the right places ;) I know that is what I prefer in a woman, and I'm sure I'm not alone. It also gives the selectee a slightly more dignified way to describe themselves without eluding to be heavy or above average in size in a negative way.
These descriptions would also help in the search function as it seems like both the search and the description choices are somewhat limiting at the moment.
Cheers!
JJ.

Ottawa isn't going anywhere with Alfredson as the capatin. Same with Vancouver and Naslund. You need Canadian leadership to win the cup, plain and simple. The team with the highest ratio of Canadians on the team pretty much always has the heart and grit to win it all. A good goalie helps too.

what is everyones opin on tattoos?
Posted:

don't like them. They're far too trendy now, almost more of a fashion accessory these days. I don't see how anything gains any more importance by having it etched into your skin, but hey, it's your body. But I'm not attracted to girls who have tattoos at all.

Any men over 35 seriously looking to get married?
Posted:

absolutely... in fact, that's all I'm really looking for. The only reason I'm not married now is that I haven't found the right woman yet (seriously). I don't continue on in a relationship for more than a year if I don't feel it's headed for marriage.

Best Goalie of all times
Posted:
4/6/2007 8:14:43 PM
tough question. I think you really have to look at the different eras and the evolution of the position. For me, guys like Mike Vernon, Grant Fuhr and Andy Moog really ushered in the ear of a more athletic goaltender who could react in a second, played good positioning and took flexibility to the next level. After that, you had Patrick Roy and Ed Belfore perfect the "butterfly" style, making it near impossible to score low. then Felix Potvin brought in the "paddle down" style, while Ron Hextall proved that the goalie could become the 3rd defenseman by handling the puck. Then you saw Dominic Hasek flail around like a fish out of water saving almost everything in the most unorthodox way imaginable. H and even guys like Curtis Joseph and Marty Brodeur helped develope the "hybrid style" that adopted the attitude "save the puck by any means necissary". Now you've goalies like Luongo and Kiprussoff taking positioning, instinct and reflex to previously unheard-of levels.
Long story short, I think it has to be Marty Brodeur. Even though he played in the "clutch and grab" era, he combines athleticism, flexibility, cool-headedness and the crazy ability to handle the puck. Although Roy might be the best "clutch" goalie ever, he was a nightmare outside the net with the puck.

I don't like tattoos on women, I just don't like it. I also don't understand how inking something on your body gives it any more signifcance. Like an above poster said, I like woman all natural, including their skin.

does getting older scare u?
Posted:

getting older in terms of age doesn't really mean anything to me, it's just a number. I know I don't feel as good as when I was twenty, but I am far more experienced and wise than I was then. My body doesn't move as fast, but I think things out more, so I don't HAVE to move as fast ;) Maybe I'm a little less adventurous and more responsible and tend to take solice in the comfort of home more than the driver's seat of my car, but that seems a pretty natural transition to me at this point.

Who should be to blame for the Oilers poor season?
Posted:
3/26/2007 6:14:27 PM
there is alot of blame to go around; Pronger for messing up his situation and therefore forcing a trade, Rolloson for not performing up to expectations, and Lowe for trading away the heart and soul of the organization in Ryan Smyth.
The Oilers have a bad track record of trading off their stars, even after assuring fans that the salary-cap era would allow them to compete with other teams for players.

Causes of Moral Decline?
Posted:
3/24/2007 11:39:01 PM
If you want a peaceful world, kill off your gods, and embrace your own humanity.
wow... if I thought there were nothing more to life than what I live, I would kill you because I am stronger and more ferocious than you, and my only ever-consuming though would be ensuring my own survival at every cost, including your life. be thankful that is not how I think or the world would be in chaos. Man by his very nature is a selfish, cruel and ignorant creature. I don't claim to be any better than anyone else, I simply recongnize something greater than myself and strive to live beyond my lust, my hunger and my malice towards others. That only comes from having ones nature changed by divine intervention, which I am grateful to God for having experienced.
Judging by your words, you sound like a petulant child who choses to stomp his feet and ignore his parent's authority, all the while knowing that you are capable of little on your own. I will pray for you, friend.

Abortion
Posted:
3/24/2007 11:21:19 PM
I haven't read all the posts as there are alot of them, and I know I'm going to get slammed for this, but I can take it.
As someone who was adopted by loving parents from a 16 year-old girl who couldn't care for me at the time, you'll understand if this topic strikes a particular chord with me.
If you think abortion is wrong at ANY point during a pregnancy, then it IS wrong at ANY time time in the pregnancy. You can't say its ok here, and not there. You don't get to make a distinction. Abortion is the killing of a life, plain and simple. Whether or not you value that life is up to you, but it is still a life, and you are still chosing to terminate it.
Destroying a life because of your lack of responsibility is reprehensible. That life didn't chose to be created, it is a victum of your failures. Don't want to have a baby? Keep your damn knees together, take birth control, wear a condom, get a visectomy, do what a responsible person does and take precautions. I know accidents happen, but you have to be held accountable when they do. With all the people who want kids and can't have them, there is no excuse for you not to pay the 9 month toll of birthing that child and giving it a chance with people who will love it. Otherwise, there is one easy and foolproof way to never have kids if you don't want them. STOP BEING A WHORE.
Abortion is the equivilant to not having drunk-driving laws. Killed someone while drunk-driving? No problem, it's simply an inconvenience, and we'll pretend it never happened. Who cares about the other person, they're dead now and won't bother you anymore. We'll get the car fixed up and you won't even remember you killed someone. Soon you can forget all about it and carry on being a drunken idiot.
A woman's right to chose is less important than that child's right to live.
What if your mother had believed in abortion...

yeah, the whole flashing gang signs thing makes me want to reach through the screen and smack people who do it. It makes you seem really cool and unique...
the other one I like is the gratuitous cleavage shot or the girls in their underwear that say in the profile something like "I'm really a classy girl and I'm not a ho". yeah, that makes you come off as a class act. Congrats.
and of course, the shirtless guy pics. Do you ladies really buy that? Are people that desparate to meet someone that you have to wear your intentions in such a conspicuous manner? Or are you guys just that smart? hmmm...

Pressure from my mom
Posted:
3/24/2007 10:38:05 PM
that's an interesting question, and one I've asked myself more and more as I get older. I made the decision very early on that if I never met the woman I would want to mary and live with for the rest of my life, I wouldn't have kids. No exceptions. In fact, I'm not sure I even want kids at all at this point. I'm pretty comfortable with my life the way it is and I intend to enjoy it for a while. Who knows, perhaps as I grow a little older my opinion will change to want to include children, but I'm not going to allow pressure from my mom puch me into making a decision that affects not only my life, but a life that would have no choice in the matter...

Posted:

I don't have any tattoos, and I can't see a reason why I ever would. Neither do i like tattoos on a girl, I just don't think it looks good. Imean, I could easily get past it if I really liked a girl who had one, but I just don't like them. I know they are all the rage right now, which makes me like them even less. I can't see how putting something on your skin makes it any more important or have any more meaning, but that's just me. If you dig it, good on ya.

Hasn't Shamrock had enough?
Posted:
10/7/2006 2:01:45 PM
i disagree with your disagreement
You have to take into consideration how quickly the sport has evolved and how now it's almost formulaic how to become a good UFC fighter. Royce Gracie was great back in the day, but can't strike now and couldn't strike back then either. With there being no time limits, he was free to crush the excitement out of any match he was involved in by trapping a guy in his guard and methodically working him into a submission over the course of 45 minutes or more. Even if he started training 5 years ago and was in hsi prime now, he still wouldn't be able to compete because of his soft chin and inability to strike.
Same with Shamrock. Ken's a bruiser who has some skill, but he's not a very well-rounded fighter, or a very smart fighter. He's still as big as he ever was and can still take a punch, but hasn't been able to evolve alongside the sport, so now he has been cast aside as a "hasbeen". Even guys like Mark Coleman (a former heavyweight champ) who brought new elements to the game (invented the ground and pound) are now being rendered obsolete due to insane conditioning regiments that they can't compete with. UFC has become a formula sport as I new it would and therefore isn't exciting to watch anymore unless you simply like the bloodlust. Anyone can beat anyone else on any given night, and with alegations of fight-fixing floating around as well, I'm just not interested anymore.

Not to mention great spelling! The Canucks will be interesting to watch indeed. I just hope Luongo doesn't get chewed up and spit out like so many other potentially great goalies before him (ahem, Felix Potvin or Sean Burke anyone? both of whom went on to have career years afterwards...)
Yes, they gave up some scoring and toughness with Bert, Carter and Jovo, but i still think they are a strong team. With all the trades this year I will have to reserve judgement until about Chirstmas before I really settle with a team. Edmonton has been my team for a few years, Toronto was always -and still is- my real team, but I don't know about this year. Calgary is always a contender and Pheonix will be a dark horse as well with Prongs on the blue line now.
Should be a fun year!

Hasn't Shamrock had enough?
Posted:

Shamrock was never really that good. He was always juiced up and tough enough to knuckle it out, but his lack of actual knowledge and skill was soooooooo apparent watching the UFC show that he was a coach on. guy doesn't really know his stuff that well, and can't coach worth a DAMN. His ego always gets him into trouble and he's not very professional. If he fought anyone in the running today he's get his a$$ whipped, just like Royce did.
