Why, no wonder that all the Jim Jones troups, or Sun Yun Moon folks, or the Applewhite gang or the Koresh family were all so happy! They had it!
It works for some but not everything is for everyone, and there's a lot of choices out there. Be careful what you let in.
I do believe it is important to believe, in something, but your something is special to you. Find what works best for you.

Extra Terrestrial Life
Posted:
11/20/2009 1:30:58 AM
Well if it was possible for earthlings to put life , even if it was for a brief time, on the moon, why wouldn't it be possible for earthlings to find a way to spend longer periods of time on places like the moon and send life sustaining supplies? Would that define life on a moon planet or another solar system? Artificially sustained? If you are on the moon are you not and extra terrestrial by definition? We have been so it's not so hard for me to believe. Earthings were ET's
Off topic I know, but it's such a condition/question that a lot of human beings would like to believe that perhaps there's a reason. Again semantics, unimagineable numbers, variables, and a whole lot of things not yet understood or proven and may not for a long time, or ever.
It's sure fun to entertain the thought. I know I'd like to believe it.

Why do people throw stuff at gigs?
Posted:
11/18/2009 11:50:35 AM
I would guess it would be because they consider it fun or satisfying in some way? and could not get away with in any other situation?
I threw a drink on a woman once, she was at a bar with my live in boyfriend of several years, and I have to admit, it was a satisfying experience.
So , yes, lack of self control, emotional override? release of social stress, lack of inhibitions due to alcohol consumption most likely.
PS A bagel will roll a much longer distance than a doughnut, amazing what people can watch pass by them and ignore, as if nothing at all happened.

when you deal with a difficult boss

Be on your toes, put all your irons in the fire, hell, take some vitmins, do your best, make the wisest decisions you are capable, and if all else seems failing,I have been know to utter a little prayer to myself. Because GOD I hate being somewhere, anywhere thats' anyones' "space" that does not want me there. This person must be making your life so very miserable, why does power? or? seem to do that to some. I'ts a complex but sometimes very sinmple question with answers.
I sort of go by the theory, that there are Big fishies in big ponds, small fishes in big ponds, little fishes in big ponds ad on nausleum
I am not going to say give up, because I think you will know, when it might be time to give up, and not wate precious time. Perhaps you are living payckeck to paycheck, and I assume you are single, being on forums at a dating site, no children mentioned, etc.
I do not think that everything happens for a reason, but I also believe that luck is not luck, it's smarts, but, it always seems a mix of the two, and half out of your mind with worry, it's no wonder!
the best you can do is the best you can do. jobs aren't easy to come by, so best of luck to you!, sincerely, good luck. Chin up!

Who reads Charles Bukowski?
Posted:

Re: Erections, Ejaculations, Exhibitions and General Tales of Ordinary Madness....I used to own a copy of this one, stolen, misplaced, left in a laundromat, who knows where? I am thinking in my clouded memory that the title was changed, later? I am pretty sure you won't find a copy in your local public library, but possibly interlibrary loan. First editions are over $70, and signed, maybe a bit more. Of course, a used copy can be gotten cheaper for about $20 US shipped.
I would recommend this one also, as I prefer his shorts to his prose.
I have to be in a certain mood to read him, but that is frequently.
As for f*ckin him? hey, Faye obviousely entertained it, but she is by far a greater woman than I, and that was hollywood.
Henry Chinaski = Charles Bukowski, but not sure if he ever didn't write under his psued0nym
eta, you can hear him read bluebird at www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmWZOsVtqR0

Child rapist - beaten by neighbors
Posted:
11/9/2009 9:21:03 PM
and where does 'justice' end? shall we hunt down and prosecute who must have had an influence on this person's behaviour? Genentics? Poor upbringing? A teacher who was too strict with the perp as a child? An abusive baby sitter? A priest? Where does the line end on who to blame?
America is full of psychiatrists that no one can afford, and most all the affordable mental health centers are closed and replaced by prisons. Aren't we just inducing the madness to continue? An eye for an eye is an archaic theory.
Is is the responsibility of a community to help rectify situations like this, but perhaps we can get deeper and look to the real source. Violence does not reduce violent behavior. No?

Sex...Hurts?
Posted:

Interesting layliecat! I have seen micro cams of the cervix during orgasm, and it "dips" repeatedly into the sperm pool, or what it perecieves to be the 'sperm pool.'
I must admit at first read I thought your suggestion on cervix location was a bit off , but I do know that I have what they call a tilted cervix, and so did my mother (more on that in a minute, or in another thread) So it called for a little personal study time!
I tried your suggestion and sure enough, before self stimulation the first finger of my right hand was easily inserted to nearly the third knuckle, and then, to test your suggestion, inserted again after self stimulation, near orgasm, and the cervix had moved, to just past the second joint of the same finger. More than in inch and I would guess inch and 1/2 to and inch and 1/4.
Having a tilted or tipped cervix has not been known to cause pain in myself or as far I as I know, my mother. But the number of women who have them, is I think about 20%. (needs citation) It causes the cervix to rub along side the penis shart and the end of the penis is stimulated more at an angle If you think of it as more of a 45%- 55% angle toward the back of the spine, instead of an 80% or 90% straight on location. (needs citation)But perhaps it could be that the cervix has moved.
If it were me and my partner I might suggest some sort of conversing, and cooperating first, rule out midical problems next with a competent OBGYN, and lastly a licensed sex expert.
Does anyone remember seeing the movie about Dr Kinsey, and his wifes' problems with intercourse? A very seeemingly difficult problem, easily solved, of course, I might add, it was physical in nature.
edited to add, it might be interesting to note if the pain is worse at any time in your cycle, monthly or yearly etc. And another thought, keep track of diet, excercise, medications etc, especially anything hormonal (eg progesterin) as some medicines can affect both physically and psychologically~

Anybody interested In American literature
Posted:
11/7/2009 11:56:55 PM
ffrin, the original poster of this thread is polish, so I would not assume her studies specialised in american literature. It should not 'bother you' that this woman is asking for some suggestions. I love Dorothy Parker. I don't think she's underrated. Her name is commonly known among most americans I have spoken with on this topic. More known for her poetry than short stories tho, so perhaps not the best choice.
Short stories subtle? Nothing subtle at all about Dot!
Good luck on the thesis, I agree Mark Twain would have a plethora of writings to discuss. Much wider range than Dorothy Parker, who I amost equate with an oh, what would I call her? Almost tempted to call her journalist.
Of course, my opinion is not expert, by any means
What about Will Rogers?
edited to add that you might try asking this question in the creative writing threads also, as most that write, read!
What time period interests you? What american writers interest you? Modern? What about Kerouacs' wife? I agree, it's great to discuss women but it brings fewer choices. Plathe? Sexton?

Here is my theory on why I am the ONLY one he has ever been faithful to
Posted:
10/19/2009 7:10:15 PM
So, I feel compelled to ask...does it make you a better person, in his mind that he didn't cheat on YOU or does it stroke your ego to think that he thought more of you than the others for not having been cheated on , instead of what you claim, stating that he didn't care enough about you to cheat on you?
Now that to me speaks of a soured relationship or train of thought, no matter which way you look at it, does it not?
maybe you can do yourself a favor and assume the worst, so you are not tempted to repeat such a scewed vision of what a really good relationship consists .
Loving someone more, does not constitute being cheated on, dose it? How does that justify the situation in either case?
Sounds to me like someone has been either A) aquired some twisted versions of what fidelity means OR B) Justifying, in their own mind a theory that makes little sense except to someone who chooses to believe they can get into someone elses mind, behaviour or thought patterns
My advise is to stop thinking about it either way, and move on, to an honest relationship with both yourself and a future mate. ;)
good luck!

Repulsive penis ??
Posted:
9/21/2009 2:46:53 PM
I saw one once, I was in third grade. I'll never forget it. The guys neame was Terry Paxton (Terry if you're reading this sorry buddy, but I bet you are still laughing) He used to sit behind me in school, and he'd wait until he had a whole tongue full of boogers, and then yank on my ponytails, and I'd turn around, and then he'd stick out his tongue as far as it would go....I can still see it. Ack!
He must have weighed all of 50 pounds? I dunno, how much does a third grader weigh? Then subtract 1/3 of that weight and you get an idea. Well, obviously he had a major crush on me. Oh did I mention he was albino, pinkish blue eyes, short white hair.
So, Terry follows me home from school one day, and he is walking on the other side of the street, and I look over, and there he is, in all of his tiny white glory to behold! A minature peenie, and in blaring screaming white in broad daylight! Bopping down the street, like nothing was happening and grinning ear to ear the whole way!
I'll anagram it R.I.P. (repulsive and indecent penis) oh and as a disclaimer, I've no prejudice of albino coloring. In fact... well that's another story~

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in other words, a subjective question, perceptions
a few words for thought
This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same idea.
Shakespeare expressed a similar sentiment in Love's Labours Lost, 1588:
Good Lord Boyet, my beauty, though but mean,
Needs not the painted flourish of your praise:
Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye,
Not utter'd by base sale of chapmen's tongues
Benjamin Franklin, in Poor Richard's Almanack, 1741, wrote:
Beauty, like supreme dominion
Is but supported by opinion
David Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742, include:
"Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them."
My thought? Simple as usual
Inner beauty, as supported by mine own or others perceptions is where real beauty is found.

Your wildest dream come true
I'm not the man you think i am
But i'm the man for you
I'm on important business
I'm late for my premiere
I'm doing you a favor
Just by being here
Surely you can buy a drink
For someone so renowned
I'm not the man you think i am
But i'm the man you've found
I'm burning with indifference
I'm sleeping with desire
I'm selling snow to eskimos
I'm preaching to the choir
My past is catching up to me
My chips are coming due
I'm not the man you think i am
But i'm the man for you

The Nature of Lies
Posted:
5/17/2009 10:36:05 AM
eveyone lies to some extent, and that's my last word on tha topic, although, it is an interesting topic. I spent some time studying and reading about the 'whys' of lying, and truthfully, (ha) it makes about as much sense at what some people call 'truth" i.e. religeon, life after death, and so on, it's just an extension of what some people want to believe. However damaging it is to themselves or others, most white lies are innocent enough "how are you?" Oh I am fine" have a good day, and so on.......no harm intended. In fact, (and I don't use that term loosely) it can be a positive sort of comment to say something you don't really mean, or want to say, but in hopes it will better anothers' day etc....hope and faith are all tied in, and it's a fine, well actually an invisible line, take a look at our court systems and you can see very blatent examples.
mc stated that clearly in his first sentence, lying and deceit are two totally different things, but some use that to harm or excuse their behaviour

Would being with some one who cant sleep be a issue ?
Posted:
5/15/2009 4:01:39 AM
I prefer non sleepers for two reasons, if you can sleep at night, how much of a conscience do you have and there are so many much more interesting things to do rather than sleep
btw the way, when you get tired, you'll just fall over. No one ever died of lack of sleep, so don't worry, too much
mom used to encourage us to stay up at least an hour later every nite, she would claim there's a lot you can do in a whole extra week and a half of waking time each year.

of course! All their songs make me smile and feel like dancin. Very zoot suit, very 40's. Love "Living on a Thin Line" "Low Budget" "20th Century Man" "Wonder Boy "Animal Farm" "Fancy" (ohh Fancy!) and so on ...
"Sunny Afternoon" runs thru my mind frequently

Dang, where's Doc Ruth, Mr Kinsey, all knowing Freud, and the rest of the sexperts when you need them?
The one thing they all had in common was the committment to, all is normal when it comes to sex, and nothing is normal when it comes to sex.
Go ahead, I say! Ask if you'd like to know. They can either answer with the truth, lie, say they'd prefer not to say, or not answer. At best surprise you!
Have what kind of sex you want to have when you want to have it, just don't get caught in public!
Wow, all that from MD Salamander!
