Hmm, also, I was thinking that you have to keep in mind that others could disable the IMs on their side too. Possibly this can be the issue too?

Ack! I dislike FireFox with a paaaaaaaaaaaaaasssion. It's too umm, subseptible (sp?), to exploitation. Sure it's more secure than IE, but, it's also more vulnerable too. Each browser has it's niche, I guess. Opera, is slow, and it's loaded with pointless features, FireFox, is nice, sure but why not just stick with Mozilla? K-Meleon is nice, and fully costumizable. I love it! When I had FireFox installed it fought for control over IE, and on top of that, I tested a program I made for my javascript class last year, and it took down FireFox mean ing it crashed it. The features I like from FF is the developper plugins/extensions that's about it. haha. Contridicting I know but I highly recommend K-Meleon.

anti-virus programmes
Posted: 11/21/2006 12:39:57 PM
Hey!

Sorry for this being late on this post but personally I have three favourites.

1.) Avira AntiVir - TRUELY my fav.
2.) Nod32 - watch out, have a few troubles signing into MSN after I installed this one
3.) AVG - it's nice, but slow on reacting.
4.) EZ Trust - this is a nicer version of a combination software (Firewall, Antivirus)
5.) Avast! - Umm,., ok, few problems with this one but I'll give it some props. I dislike the way it looks aka Interface
6.) Kaspersky - Pretty nice, but it's a commerical version so it's all about money.
7.) Trend Micro Housecall - Wow! I love this one because you can scan yourself online without having to install anything but an active x.
8.) PandaSoft - Same as above
9.) Norton AntiVirus - I strongly dislike this but many people seem to love it
10.) McAfee - It's ok, haven't had any problems.

Now, please note these are all the one's I've tried. I guess it's basically a trial and error thing. Install one play with it for a few weeks, if you like it keep it. Just remember to uninstall the one that you currently have before installing any other one.

Hope this helps.

Blue screen of death
Posted: 11/1/2006 6:28:53 PM

1. Figure out your video card make and model, update its drivers.
2. See if there are Updated Chipset drivers (example, I have an nforce chipset, I download the Nforce unified driver package).
3. Update the game (well this will only work if you have a legit copy).
4. Update sound card drivers.
5. Run Memtest, This will test the ram for any bad sectors. If there are any errors (this is after running it for 8+ hours min), replace the ram asap.

This works pretty good but I figured maybe it's a RAM issue. I know a lot of the times when I play games and stuff it locks up because the RAM is not efficient enough for the game. So it freezes and hangs. From there it'll either reboot the P.C or BlueScreen.

Also on top of that, I read an article about this (http://www.google.com/search?q=Everquest+BlueScree+Issue), and I seen that there's a program that can cause it for other players. Like a war tool. So, I'm not to sure. Hopefully this helps.

windows xp problem
Posted: 11/1/2006 6:24:54 PM
hey!

sorry for the late reply. Hopefully it's fixed, but if it is not, here's a method that I got to work.

click on "Tools" then "Manage Add-Ons" and make sure you see "Windows Genuine Advantage" because that's the Updater. If it's not there then the problem relies on your browser. If that doesn't work. You can attempt to install an alternative browser like "FireFox" or "K-Meleon" and try updating from there (setting your User-Agent) to MSIE6 (http://www.google.com/search?q=changing+user+angents+firefox). If that doesn't work then it's your computer.

Hopefully this helps.

Please uninstall symantec, mcafee, panda av, AVG, and isntall either Bitdefender, Trend, or Avast if you must have a free one.

Tisk Tisk, theyr're all gross LoL. I like Nod32 or Avira AntiVir only because it's supported for linux as wells as Windows ^_^ . If they feel confortable with the anti-virus they have then don't tell them to uninstall their current anti-virus. Only because, I'm pretty sure they do not want to purchase another anti-virus.

Tip & Tricks
Posted: 10/24/2006 12:01:15 PM
Hey,

Welcome to the thread. Just a basic introduction, this thread will have a small list of tip, tricks and tweaks you can do to either speed up your system or having it looking prettier.

Windows XP:
Improving runtime performance - Ok, this small tip allows you to load software applications a lot smoother and quicker.

Click "Start"
Right Click "My Computer"
Select and Click "Properties"
Click on the "Advanced" tab
Click "Settings" under the "Performance" area
Under Visual Effects select "Adjust for best performance"
Hit "Apply" then "Ok"
Hit "Ok"

That just got rid of all the effects that draw around all the icons and speeds up caching

Also, for extra note you might want to switch to "Windows Classic" mode. This also helps speed things up so it doesn't have to draw pictures over everything. I'm currently running a Pentium II 336Mhz with 128MB of RAM, Windows XP Pro. Running like a champ!

Switching to Classic Mode -
This can be useful if you have programs that take up a lot of resources.

Go to your Desktop
Right Click and select "Properties"
Go to the "Appearence" tab
Change the theme to "Windows Classic Style"

for better performance remove the effects
Click "Effects"
uncheck EVERYTHING
Hit "OK"
Hit "OK"

It's going to take a bit for it to change but then you should have the classic windows look and feel. Perfomance will be 15%-20% better.

Internet Explorer:
Changing your user agent - This is the little response that sends with your computer everytime you go to a website. This is basically you "ID" lets, everyone know what your running.

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MESS WITH ANY OTHER OPTIONS IN THE REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!!!

Click "Start"
go to "Run"
type "regedit"
Registry Editor should pop up and your should see; "My Computer"
Right Click "My Computer"
Select "Export"
Export "All" (at the bottom)
Save it somewhere like "C:\"
Name it "BackUp"
Might take a bit of time, but once it's finished double click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
double click "SOFTWARE"
double click "Microsoft"
double click "Windows"
double click "Current Version"
double click "Internet Settings"
On the right side you might see the words "User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0)"
Right click "User Agent"
Select "Modify"
Change it to anything you want!!
Hit "Ok"
Exit the registry Editor
Restart your browser

Changing your Window Title - This allows you to do a small modification to your browser so you feel important. You can change the nice little "Microsoft Internet Explorer" to "I love PoF"

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT MESS WITH ANY OTHER OPTIONS IN THE REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!!!

Click "Start"
go to "Run"
type "regedit"
Registry Editor should pop up and your should see; "My Computer"
Right Click "My Computer"
Select "Export"
Export "All" (at the bottom)
Save it somewhere like "C:\"
Name it "BackUp"
Might take a bit of time, but once it's finished double click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
double click "SOFTWARE"
double click "Microsoft"
double click "Internet Explorer"
double click "Main"
if you see the words "Window Title" on the right hand side
right click it and select "Modify"
if not right click inside the right pane and select "New->String Value"
Name it "Windows Title"
Put in anything you want"
Close the registry editor
Restart your browser.

Internet Explorer 7 final version released today.
Posted: 10/24/2006 11:23:13 AM

I've shut off automatic updates more times than I can count, but thanks to the auto prompt it gets turned back on.

Hey, I know what your talking about. LOL, you can shut that off via a reg key. I don't remember which EXACT one but the way it looks to see if it's installed is by querying the registry to see if you have IE7. What you can do is change your useragent.

How do you know that 100% no adds? Do you investigate the packets/data being sent and received? LOL, I'm just messing around. There's one client I really like for BitTorrents, it's called uTorrent. It's really nice. Well, at least I think. ^_^

help with wicca

Merry Meet, and Blessed Be to all,

Scott Cunningham's Guide for The Solitary Practitioner

I have this book! Since it IS a forum and a question was asked I may state my opinion. My opinion being that, a lot of people just jump into Wicca because they want "Spells" and "Magic". Where, I'm from, a lot of people think of Wicca as a curse rather then a religion. I'm not sure about anyone else here, I, myself am not part of an organized religion. I am, baptised Christian, however, I do not practice, nor do I go to church. When I was younger I came upon other religions, Wicca being my first. I felt like this was a religion where other could see my point of view.

*thinks for a second....where am mI going with this*

Oh! yes, if your devoted to the practice then all the well to you.

Personal Experiences:
  • Rituals for all the seasons
  • Festivals
  • Regular Coven Meetings

Hope this clears a bit out, sorry if I confused.

    Blessed Be, Merry Part.

    Hey barney,

Ok well there's a little problem with the post. We don't know what firewall your using. If you can let us know and if the IP address starts with 192.168.x.x then it's not hostile it's a user on your network. It'd be helpful to know what Operating system your running too, so I can know what's the possibilities could be of a hostile attacker.

The 192.168.xx.xxx ip address is a router ip address (someone on your network.).. unless it's a spoofed.

    Hey,

I think that possibly your behind a router, or a proxy setting is messed up. If you have a router it's blocking the ports that your using, and the proxy settings I'm not to sure how to fix that since I use LimeWire Pro. I personally feel that's better then BearShare, there's no ads on it and it' really fast. Goooooo Java

    1. Like every other major site we block users from Africa, Romania, Turkey, India, Russia etc.
    Posted: 10/23/2006 8:05:29 PM
To throw in a personal opinion to this, I don't agree to allowing them on either only because I see how most of them behave on other Social Networking Sites or Personals and agreed with late, that they scam and like to spam as well. We had a high percentage of them at my old work.

    Hmm,

To be honest, I don't think thast home users need a lot of stuff. They just want a functional computer. I know when I talk to some of my friends that are not computer literate they really don't care how I build them a computer they just want something that's fast, and that works. They don't care about anything else. I see how Gamers, and other computer experts I guess enjoy the whole building a really fast computer, but then again what's the real point? To suck up a crap load of hydro?

I think the main annoying thing about computers is the fact that users automatically assume that experienced computer users are bad people and that they can hack. Tisk Tisk, just because you can hack doesn't mean you do it.

    Hey,

Ok, this is my two cents on it. I think it's because the chat service is calling from the asp page which is not pulling the user data correctly.

Meaning... The user is offline or he/she has blocked you or closed the window and you don't receive it because your trying to establish a connection and you connection for a small sec but then disconnect and the network times out.

have I not waited long enough?

make me feel like there's hope.

Should you not feel the same?
    Please do tell,,
for I will continue to fall for you.
Each day it grows deeper and deeper

    I await a response,
praying for it to be positive
    yet receive nothing.
Am I wrong to want to know?

Show me how I should act,
    how I should feel

Pierre xoxox (this really doesn't make any sense but I wrote it at 4am on a piece of paper and was procrastinating to post it)

    just a friggen poem...
oh, how I long to tell you my love,
that you make me feel this of undescribable feeling.
The emotion in which has no way to be compared to.
I see you not a whole lot, however you when I do
I cannot not tell you how good you make me feel.
To embarassed or shy of your reaction,
Afraid to be crushed with the single "I'm sorry, but..."
I refrain from telling you how I adore thee.
The hints were on the field,
But you did not catch on.
    Struggling with the emotion inside
I debate on showing you, or even telling you how much you mean to me.
    Although we have just met,
Like a young Nostradamus, I attempt to forsee a future with us.
My witty little comments, and attempts to tell you how I want you
Oh my love! how, I long to tell you....
Scared of your reaction, I leave you with this poem
Catch the hint, the drift what you ye may need
And let me know how you see us being.
Either a couple, friends, or lifemates
Just know that I will ALWAYS love you...
    forever and ever..
    until we meet again
    I love you
    I need you
    I want you...

    Moonlight
Sitting on the steps, gazing in your eyes...
The reflection of the moon leaves me mesmerized.
So many thoughts so little time...
Thanking God, that you are mine.
Your soft touch, on my neck...
Makes me want to give you a peck.
Kiss you once, and then again...
    Wishing that we'd meet again.
Looking at the watch, I know what to do...
But all I want is to be with you.
As I get up to leave, you spring to me...
You hold me tights so I cannot leave.
I give you a kiss, to make it right...
Then I'm gone into the night.
As I walk along, I wrote a poem...
To show you that I love my puddem.
By the time I was done, I have arrived...
As I write, all sleep deprived.
I think of the place in which we will meet...
In my dreams, my beautiful sweet.

    Love,

I try to remember only the happy thoughts and memories
However the sad ones come in more.
Every now and again I think I can sense you
I feel the presence of your aroma.

You were a friend, a pet, and a family member
You were there when times were tough
I was there when you needed me as well.
We were a couple, an item, an ever lasting force.

    hey,

Ok, I know a lot of people to use FireFox, but I just thought I'd throw in a thread about it. Personally, I feel as though the regular Mozilla client was muuuuuuuuuuuuch better then FireFox. FireFox has lots of bugs, but the only reason no one seees them is because they're doing things in the background. Now, you can do anything you want with IE as you can with FireFox, but es, sure FF is much more secured. Maybe too much. A browser that I really enjoyed was K-Meleon. It has a loooooooooooot of features that help you out when tryin' to debug the reason why everything is broken. It's based off the the Ghecko control, so it's not fully released. However, I've been using it for two years now and it's really good.

You can go on google, and search K-Meleon WebBrowser. You'll end up on a website that's like SourceForge that's the right one. If you need any further assistance simply reply to this post or just contact me on the site.

    Hope this helps.

uhh, try enabling it on your webbrowser. DON'T reinstall your webbrowser yet.

Click "TOOLS" then "INTERNET OPTIONS" from there go to "PROGRAMS" and click "Reset Web Settings" and restart the browser... try that if that doesn't work then try: "Tools->Internet Options->Advanced" and click "Restore Defaults"

If THAT doesn't work THEEEEEEEEEEEEN reinstal your browser

    Hopefully this helps

    trojan

    Hey,

hope I'm not too late. I know this Trojan, it's a downloader. Meaning, it downloads other files when it's executed. You have to remove the run entry from the registry then from that point reboot your computer, and then search for the file and delete it. that should work.

Click "Start" then "Run" then type "regedit" and hit "OK" (or press enter).

Navigate to: [hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run] and find it in there. If it's there dete teh string value. then naviage to [hkey_current_user\software\Microsoft\Windows\Run] and find & delete from there. Should be done and all shoudl work fine.

Hope this helps. MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE YUO DO THIS!!!!!
