The Artistic Nude... Posted: 4/12/2007 8:13:45 AM | Would I? Yes, and indeed I have modelled for a lot of artists and art classes. It's interesting for a variety of reasons and it can be a lot of fun. However it's definitely not always fun because holding long poses can be dreadfully boring, if not well planned your limbs can go to sleep, and sometimes it's cold. Also it doesn't pay very well.
Things that are great about modelling nude:
One of the appealing things about posing for artists is that they want models with interesting bodies and/or they want models to assume interesting poses - no I don't mean pornographic ones. So you suddenly get to see and experience your own body on completely different terms than we typically do out in the world. It's actually delightfully liberatingand empowering. You also quickly discover that being naked in front of a group of artists is very different from being naked in front of a bunch of random people.
Modelling is also an acceptible and pretty safe way to enjoy any exhibitionist tendencies you may have.
It's fun to see how people draw or paint you and unless they're very skilled artists you have no reason whatsoever to take bad representations of yourself the wrong way.
By and large artists really appreciate having live models to draw or paint.
Different models have different styles. Once I worked met a woman who modelled as though she was on stage at a peeler joint. Both the other models and the artists found it a bit inappropriate and distracting - though of course kind of entertaining too.
My suggestion: try it. You might like it. I definitely did. | | | |
