THANKS to all of you that made it out to the Halloween event. It was a lot of fun, good energy and a great crowd!

A big thank you, to DILLY DIXON for donating the 4 “generous” cash prizes for the best costumes and for having us.

As always, BILLY DIXON and his Soul Train Express and the EPICS were FANTASTIC!!!!

It was very nice seeing the familiar faces again, along with some “newbies.”
We hope that you will join us again.

Well here we go again ….. HALLOWEEN. Where does the time go?

This event promises to be another fun filled evening, as Billy Dixon and his Soul Train Express always keeps the place hopping. Last years event was a great success and we are sure this year will be as well.

We saw some GREAT costumes last year and I’m sure that this event is sure to bring the same. As Christa1 mentioned there will be prizes donated by Billy for the best costumes.

Don’t forget to purchase your ticket from Billy prior to the event in order to get it a $15.00. Otherwise, you will be paying $35.00 at the door.

Hope to see you there.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance. Entertain yourself often / Always! "

Such wise words and you are absolutely right! Let’s entertain ourselves and "DANCE LIKE NO ONE IS WATCHING! "

Please keep in mind … WE HAVE "100 RESERVED SEATS" for this POF event which are available to us at 6:00 p.m.
There is no need to be there before that time. If our numbers (including guests) are under 100, everyone will have a seat in our reserved section.

Please DON’T FORGET that if you are attending this event to “sign up.” It not only prepares the club but it prepares Christa1 and myself as far as seating.
Thanks

.... ….. not only NEW fish, but good variety of ages! I like that, as it makes it more fun.

The events, are for all ages but we don’t often see too many under 35, which is a shame.

If you like to dance, like the venue, then why not join us and you younger fish ..bring your friends!

klarey ..we have no idea who will sign up for an event. So far, our youngest is 19 and the oldest ???? Please keep in mind that this venue is open to the public as well.
You can always watch who signs up and as long as your young friend likes to dance, I can't see why they wouldn't have a good time.

Despite the road conditions, we had a good turn-out and it was so nice to have so many newbies. As always it takes a great group of people to make a fun night. A big thank you to all of you for making the night a success. Thanks to Christa1 and sassyandconfident and always to Carl Lingus, our official photographer. Carl, I don’t know what we would do without you.

Thanks to Billy Dixon and his Soul Train Express and the Firefighter’s club for providing the venue.

As soon as I’m enabled, I will upload my pictures of the evening. Anyone wishing to have their picture deleted please contact me.

I will take this opportunity to wish everyone a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! and I look forward to seeing you at another event in 2009. Until then, drive safely and take care.

Wrist bands / glow bracelets, do you want them?
Posted: 12/4/2008 3:03:56 PM
Thanks tyeee for your understanding and Yappy lil Pine Needle (love the name) for your suggestion. I'll get working on the box right away! Using Recyclable material of course! And I'll have Christa1 write a short blurb in our upcoming event so that all those attending have the heads up that they can turn in their bracelet at the end of the night. I'll wear my home as it is usually still glowing but I will recycle it when it stops. And that's the truth!

Wrist bands / glow bracelets, do you want them?
Posted: 12/4/2008 11:09:59 AM
Thank you for posting this topic as it was something that we, Chirsta1 and I (nu butterfly) had concerns about as well.

First of all, I would like to say that the Glow Bracelet we purchase is Non-toxic and made of RECYCLABLE plastic. I was assured of this by the company where we purchase them. (Glow Distributors - A Division of Mystical Distributing). The glow bracelets, which we have purchased personally, do last a minimum of 6 hours, although we did come into some that only lasted an hour. This was a shame as it created more waste. Because we still have some of those left…we will use what is remaining at our next event, as to just tossing them. There is the concern, where some, at the end of the evening, go home and toss the glow-bracelet into their garbage. We hope that they would put it in with their recyclable plastics. I know we do. As far as the cost of energy to manufacture and transport glow bracelets…it's the same for any other method that could be used (ribbons, pins, nametags, fabrics).

Purpose for the Glow bracelets:
For example:
1) Some venues are able to reserve a whole room for a POF event in which case, bracelets would not be necessary
2) Hosting an event at the Firefighters Club, we are given 100 seats for POF. Because this venue is open to the public, the public is often unaware that the 100 seats are reserved for us. Once the POF member arrives and given the glow bracelet to wear…it helps us easily identify who is sitting in our reserved section. Anyone who is NOT wearing the bracelet, we can only assume that they are from the public and we inform them that the area is reserved, advising them that they must seat elsewhere. That is why we request that anyone sitting in the reserved area, WEARS the bracelet. At the firefighters Club, there can be over 200 POF members attending, and with only being allowed to reserve 100 seats for our group, I’m sure that all of you can appreciate how difficult that can be for us to identify our members and to keep our event organized. Because of the numbers exceeding 100, it is necessary for POF members to find seats in the other section amongst the public. This makes it difficult for anyone to see who is who, so the bracelet does just that. We can see where you are, which is important for PICTURE TAKING as mentioned, as how are we to know if you are a POFer or the public?

In the event where Christa1 and I give away door prizes and such, we purchase them for our POF MEMBERS ONLY and not the public. As mentioned by another poster: Not wanting to wear a bracelet ….to be the unknown…..I don’t understand it either …isn’t that what these events are all about? To make new friends?
It was also mentioned that the glow-bracelet is fun, creates a little zing/dazzle to the evening and why not?
We can’t forget about the NEWBIES. It makes it easier for them and any other POF member to spot other members/singles in the crowd. It also sends a message ….“Safe Zone.”

Alternatives:
Pins/ribbons /name tags
- many do not like to have pin marks in their clothing -can fall off and poke someone (dangerous) - can’t or do not pin them where they are easily visible or cannot be spotted from a distance…. nametags peel off
-where do they end up? Garbage?
- if they were to be re-useable - Who is to purchase these. Hosts? Members?
-Blinking pins can be seen but again who purchases them? We hosts CANNOT SELL ANYTHING. If the host wants to donate them, will people turn them in at the end of the evening or reuse them?

Reusing the glow bracelets for another project is good idea but please “do not spray paint them” as we do have the O-zone to worry about and make sure that you recycle the container that the paint came in and don’t forget that paint was manufactured and transported from somewhere.

Christa1 and I, will see that we have a container on our table so that at the end of the evening, POF members can drop off their bracelet, where we will make sure that it is recycled. Of course, if you choose to do this on your own by putting it into your recycle containers at home, then that works as well.

SUGGESTION FOR ALL YOU NEWBIES
Come early so that you can sit in our POF reserved section. This will ensure that you are sitting with other POF members. Otherwise, if you come late, and alone, you will be sitting in other areas of the venue. away from the group. If you are a dancer....then this doesn't matter as you will always be on the dance floor....so no big deal. Just make sure that you come and see Christa1 or myself to get your glow bracelet and a ticket for the draws. And please, let us know that this is your first event.

Yes, welcome to the pond KC.

When you arrive at the Firefighter's Club, just go through the doors and once you are in, you will see us ON YOUR RIGHT, FAR WALL. We will be easy to find.

Please plan on being there early as you may have a hard time getting a seat. We are only able to reserved 100 seats for the POF group and if you arrive too late, you will have to find seating on your own. Should that be the case, after finding a seat, just make sure that you still come to our table for the bracelet and a ticket for the draw.

For any Newbie or if you are coming alone, it is always best that you do arrive early so that you can sit with other POFers. This way you will get to know other members and you will feel more comfortable. (Don't forget you can eat there)

We also ask that you inform us that you are a Newbie, so we can help make your first experience a good one. We are all there to make new friends and have alot of fun doing so.
See you there.

You are most welcome Tesoro.
We found that it was a good way to unwind from the Christmas rush, or for those who's family were out of town, we gave them a place to be, with friends and for those of us who didn't have plans for New Years ..it worked great.

I'm looking forward to co-hosting this event with Christa1 for the second year.
Billy was fantastic as usual and we know that the place will be rawking again!

Yes, Christa1, I would have to agree that this was a fun night and Soooo many fantastic costumes!

Congratulations to all the prize winners. BigBlue401 ---when you think of it, constructing a home is somewhat like constructing a costume, not that I‘m suggesting, if you can sew you can build a home! You did an excellent job!

Thank you Sweet and Sassy for your POTATO CHIP DONATION for ALL the tables. Wow! You have no idea how much that was appreciated.

To our faithful photographer Carl lingus69, thank you again so much, … you are always there to help and your loyalty never goes unnoticed. Come to think of it…I don’t think that YOU WENT UNNOTICED either with all that reflector tape and flashing lights. Good job!

And lastly, thank you to everyone that came and I hope that you enjoyed the evening as much as we did.

HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY ,SATURDAY, NOV. 1, 2008 MARITIME CENTER VANCOUVER BC

Halloween is approaching us and so is this event…..which means for those of you that plan on attending and have not yet purchased your ticket, don’t forget in order to get your ticket at HALF PRICE you must do it soon. We have reserved some tables for POF members and those of you that are concerned about going alone, there is no need to worry, as you will be able to sit with the group. Just purchase your ticket early and be counted in.

As Christa1 said earlier, let Billy Dixon know that you are with POF, purchase your ticket and a seat will be reserved for you.

With this event being open to the public there will be many new people and I’m sure a lot of great costumes (of course optional) and with TWO BANDS it is going to be another promising event filled with high energy, good music, a great bunch of people and just clean fun.

HALLOWEEN DANCE PARTY ,SATURDAY, NOV. 1, 2008 MARITIME CENTER VANCOUVER BC
Posted: 9/5/2008 11:18:54 PM
“Who wants to dress up?” “I do, I do!!”
Dressing up is always fun. Keeps us thinking young and allows us to be a little silly.

This Halloween dance promises to be a night filled with great music, not only from one band but TWO! … and of course, a chance to get together with all the wonderful people from POF. Being open to the public it is also a chance to see many new faces and make new friends. That is what these events are all about; getting out there and doing something instead of just thinking about it.
For those that have never been to a POF event, the Halloween dance is a good place to start. You can always disguise yourself, wear a mask, if you feel a little shy. Think about it.

As Christa1 mentioned, Billy Dixon is offering a special group rate for a table of 10. If you don’t know that many people, as all your friends are married etc., you can network through here, making up groups so that you can take advantage of the special rate. We hosts cannot do this for you but you are free to contact any of those who have signed up for the event. Just change your settings to “accept everyone” and contact each other or just post through this event asking. If you plan on coming alone, or a NEWBIE, by doing it this way, it will give you an opportunity to meet up with other POFer’s and therefore you will surely get to know those at your table. But I wouldn’t wait too long on this. For those that want to reserve a table …it’s up to you how you want to fill it. WE HOSTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SALE OF TICKETS OR THE RESERVING OF TABLES. TICKETS ARE PURCHASED AND TABLE ARE RESERVED THROUGH BILLY DIXON.

To our famous photographer, Abby…..Thank you once again. It really is appreciated. Hope you got lots of pictures. …. as I only have a total of 4 and luckily, one of them is of YOU! That doesn’t happen often.

Posted: 8/2/2008 11:22:24 AM
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that we have 140 POF members sign up and that is NOT including their guests so therefore that means we may take up most of the club space. Remember that this venue is also open to the public so in order get a seat you MUST arrive early OR you may not find seating together OR you may be waiting at the door. We have no control over that, as there is no way we could know how many others are planning to attend.

FOR THE NEWBIES …. The glow bracelet serves two purposes …one is to identify other POF members, and second, it helps us to see that only the POF members and guests are sitting in our 100 reserved seats.

Please make sure that you see Christa1 or me before seating. Thanks.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and having "A WHOLE LOT OF FUN!"

drudawg27 - You are correct about the age group of the POFer's that have signed up but I wouldn't worry too much as it is open to the public and you never know who may turn up. If you enjoy Billy Dixon, what do you have to loose?

I think that a new school of fish just swam in!!

It is really nice to see all the new faces sign up.

As Christa1 said...the Firefighter's Club has given us 100 seats so the first 100 POF members to arrive (including their guests), will for sure have a seat. For those of you that come later, there is seating available on the lower level. The club holds approx. 250. Please keep in mind that the club is also open to the public so it is important that you arrive early in order to find seating.

For the first timers, please see Christa1 or myself and introduce yourself.
And don't forget, if you have any questions that are not already answered in the posting, don't hesitate to ask us. If not, see you there!! It will be a great party as usual!!

Thanks Christa1 for making this event happen. It has been awhile since we have held a POF event at this venue. Anyone who has attended the Firefighter’s Club in the past, know that this is a fun place to get together and the band, for sure, we can’t go wrong.

For those that have not taken in “any POF event“, this is a great place to get your feet wet.
It will be nice to meet up with the regulars as usual and we are hoping to see many “new faces” as EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!

I am looking forward once again, co-hosting an event with Christa1.

You are most welcome monkey694u.

Next time I hope to get many more pictures. With the crowd so large and everyone spread out, with the glow-braclets it will make it easier to see who is POF and who is not. So when I walk around, I will know who to take pictures of. I certainly don't want to be taking and posting pictures of people who do not belong! The bracelets will help me identify who's who or else I could get into alot of trouble! Maybe even banned from the club!! LOL I certainly don't want that to happen!

OK everyone!! I finally found the right place to post this. JUST MY THIRD TRY! Sorry not too familiar with this.

I have some more pictures!! Christa1 you will have to give me the go-ahead to upload please.

For those that did not read my previous post, here it is and for those that have seen it once or twice before ....SORRY.

A big thank you to “everyone” for helping make this event possible. Gloria and Amanda, true sweethearts (not just for Valentine’s but always) and the others that helped out … very much appreciated…Carl …you have “never” asked me to dance with you!!! but you take good pictures, so that’s a trade off!

As always, Billy Dixon and his band were just awesome and with a crowd of POFers, we can’t miss. I think that we are getting use to dance floors being packed wherever we go and we make the best of it. We are becoming so many that we are spreading into the isles but who cares as long as we have fun.

As Christa1 wrote …“this would not be possible without your support and understanding.” This is so true. Thank you. For all the newbies…I hope that you had a good time and that we will see you again at another event.

Looking forward to our next event ……!!!!!
Thanks Christa1... you are “fabulous darling."

Hope that everyone got home safely and until the next time .."take care everyone."

Now Christa please help me get these pictures on so we can move onto the next.

I know that the events can take much of our time and when you get to know so many POFfers, it’s hard to spread yourself around and you should NEVER REFUSE A WOMAN should she ask you to dance!

And …..with you being so popular and all …maybe you should have a dance card. I’ll just have to wait in line. I always have the girls or can dance with myself. With the dance floor being so packed …one would never know!! Right?

Take care and I’ll be looking for you on the 23rd.

Sorry if I posted this twice .........(2 different areas)

Thanks Christa1... you are “fabulous darling!”

Hope that everyone got home safely and until the next time .."take care everyone."

Alright everyone …tomorrow is the big day of the Valentine’s Event! We are ready!!

Although Valentine’s is officially over, we POFers are going to celebrate it this Saturday. “Better late than never they say.” I’m sure that many men will agree with this although for the women..it‘s just not the same but we are POFers and we will use any excuse to party!! Right?

Christa1 and I thought that it would be a special treat to offer this time around a few door prizes!!!
FOR OUR POF MEMBERS AND GUESTS! So therefore, we ask that when you arrive you not only see us at our VALENTINE’S TABLE to receive your GLOW-BRACELET but to put your "username" in for the draws and receive a KISS. Chocolate that is!

Please remember that it is VERY IMPORTANT TO ARRIVE EARLY if you do not have a reserved seat. (Again, we will only hold the reserved seat until 8:00) It is only fair as the seats are limited.

We are sure that everyone will have a fun time and why wouldn’t we? We have a Great Band and a GREAT GROUP OF PEOPLE.

See you all there!!

We also have to make sure that he gets the famous glow-bracelet!

From Delta, I always go along Kingsway, make a left at Nelson …, and make a right to the underground parking at Metrotown. The club is on the same side as the Shopping Center and the only thing that seems to separate the two is the road to the underground parking. You will see the club on your right as you drive towards the underground parking. The website and address for the club is posted on this event. You can use “Mapquest” to get detailed driving directions. Sorry but that is the best that I can offer. Anyone else know the way from North Van? Thanks.

Dressing up in RED/PINK/WHITE is totally up to the individual. Because it is a Valentine’s event, I am sure that many will adopt the Holiday colors, as I will surely take advantage of wearing red.

Regarding identifying the POF members, we feel that the nametags tend to peel off, so once again, we will be giving a GLOW-BRACELET to EVERYONE when greeted. That is why we request that upon arriving, you see Christa1 or myself at “our table“. For those that are first timers, “NEWBIES“, please make sure that you do check in with us so that we can meet and introduce you to others.

(NOTE FOR THE NEWBIES: All those that wear the glow-bracelet are POF members and are there for the same reason as you …to meet others, to dance and to have fun!! Welcome to the pond!)

And a reminder once again. If you do not have a reserved seat, please arrive early to ensure a seat and don‘t forget that this venue is also open to the Firefighter Members and the public.

I‘m looking forward to seeing everyone there once again and meeting new members. We had so much fun the last time: music was awesome, crowd was full of energy and the place rawked!

You are never “too young” or ever “too old” to meet others and so for those that are just thinking about it, it‘s time to get your fins wet and come out and join us. We are just “one big pond of fish” not all hoping to get caught but just looking for a fun night out and to enhance our circle of friends.

As BNT said… “It is HAPPY HEART DAY” ….So let’s make our hearts HAPPY!!!

Introduce yourself here
Posted: 1/29/2008 1:03:05 AM
Hi! My name is Judy.

Born in a very small town, Vermilion, North of Edmonton. Few have heard of it, I’m sure.

I have lived in BC for 39 years and 28 of those years have been in N Delta.

I joined POF because all of my friends were married and I needed to have a new circle of friends who shared a common factor. Being single.

I found that getting out to the events, “jumping into the water” was the best thing I could have done for myself, as I have met many wonderful people from this system. Those of you that are just thinking about going to the events please do yourself a favour and stop thinking about it and JUST DO IT! And if you don’t have someone to go with, don’t worry, you just let the host/co-host know and they will introduce you to others. If you like people, enjoy dancing, pool…whatever and tired of looking at the walls, then ask yourself, “What is the worse thing that can happen?”
And remember … Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

The forums like others say, can be very entertaining but we don’t want to become “mouse potatoes. “

Good luck to all of you and I hope meet more newbies.

So Christa1 ...let me understand this...there are 100 seats ..80 people have signed up which includes the guests... so that to me ..means that there are still 20 reserved seats available. So, for those that have not yet signed up and wish to go, YOU HAD BETTER HURRY UP or you will be on your own! Finding seats that is.
Remind me Christa1 not to have you do my banking!! Never mind ...I know that it's late and because you are such a "Wonderful woman" we will overlook it. Love you!

Please remember to REMOVE YOUR RESTRICTIONS for our mailing purpose if you want to receive your confirmation.

OR: I believe, a easier way, is by selecting Christa1 or Nubutterfly as "a favorite" therefore, the system will allow you to accept email from "US." You can always remove us later. Some may feel more comfortable with this method.
Thanks

It is good to see more newbies signed up and for sure, we WELCOME you along with the regulars.
In regards to First Lady‘s post …yes, there is two parts to signing up if you are planning on bringing a guest. First, “yourself” signing up on here and the second, emailing Christa1 or myself to let us know about your guest. This is very important so that we can count your guest "in" for a guaranteed seating “with you.” Otherwise, they will only have seating in the other area of the club, reminding you that we have no control over that area.

For those that have not signed up before we have reached the cut off number, you are again most welcome to attend (of course with your guests) but unfortunately, as far as seating goes, you are on your own.

Once again, we will have GLOW-BRACELETS for ALL POF MEMBERS no matter where you are sitting. These bracelets do identify POFers and make it easier for the newbies or those that are unfamiliar with the regulars.
Please make sure that you come to our table when you arrive or once you are settled. (This applies ONLY to the POF MEMBERS that did not get a confirmation of a reserved seat, so that you can receive your bracelet.)

FOR THOSE THAT RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION please come directly to our table so that we can check you off our list. A reminder once again, for those that are “on our list” but have NOT ARRIVED BY 8:00, your seat will be NO LONGER HELD.

I’m looking forward to co-hosting this event and meeting with you once again. I had a fantastic time at our Dec 29th event and for those that attended, I’m sure that you will agree that the music was exceptional and considering we had such a turnout, that the dance floor was do-able. I’m confident that this Valentine’s Dance will be just as awesome. With a great group like us …what can I say other than, “We POFers really know how to party!!”

AFTER CHRISTMAS PARTY PICTURES
Posted: 12/31/2007 10:26:10 AM
I just wanted to say a “BIG THANK YOU” to First Lady, Sassy and Confident, Greeneyed Dreamer and Carl Lingus for all your help.” And let’s not forget our Christa1 for initiating this event and giving me the opportunity to co-host.

And of course, to ALL OF YOU who came out to make this a get success! Without that, this event could not have happened and we hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did.

I think that we would all agree that Billy Dixon was sensational and even though the dance floor was packed, it was do-able.

I had a chance to re-connect with many regular fishies and an opportunity to meet new ones which is always a pleasure. I hope that the Newbies felt at ease and will come to more events in 2008.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE AND ALL THE BEST IN 2008!!
