There are so many, I can’t choose.
- What if the hokey-pokey is really what it's all about?
- The ride stopped but, I'm still swirling.
- I just realized I have a Giant forehead.
- I have an 18 year old daughter. Somebody shoot me.
- I've got an itch.
- All the bucks stop with me. Send more.
- Security device enclosed.
- I cannot fly without assistance.
- Naah naaah naaaah naaaaah naaaah.

Is sarcasm a turn on ..or a big fat negativo :)
Posted:
3/24/2006 9:21:33 AM
For me using sarcasm is a two edged sword. It’s great fun to highlight the silly stuff of life. However, if said in the wrong tone, it can make folks defensive, insulted and down right angry. While I continue to fine tune this craft and enjoy sarcasm as entertainment, I have my own boundaries. I try to not make others uncomfortable but, I occasionally step into a big pile of it. My goal continues to be laughter, fun and making others smile.
O/T - I find it a turn on when a woman uses sarcasm without belittling the object or subject.

what to do when people make rude comments
Posted:
11/29/2005 7:29:29 AM
Excellent tactic Polly. And it works wonderfully to defuse those who not only don't know they are being rude but, it works in difficult stressful situations. Sometimes folks are so passionate about a topic they fail to hear the words they are saying and haven't taken the time to arrange their words to not hurt the person on the receiving end. Then again, there are those who are just out to pounce and get a jolly out of the process. You'll rarely get a rise out of difficult rude people because they're in it to make waves.

Job Interview Question: What would you say one of your faults are?
Posted:
11/29/2005 7:16:54 AM
Aside from a world of opinions out there, I use something from my past that I've changed.
For example, I've learned the importance of listening. In a fast paced position, halting the 10 things going on in my head when taking a call to really listen to what the person is telling me matters. Not only to that person but, it matters to me in actually hearing what they said the first time. All too often miscommunication occurs on the receivers end. It helps to repeat what the person said in your own words and listen for the caller to agree. You may have this tactic down pat.
Other examples are: learning at least one new business process or procedure each week; making a new contact (internal associate or external client) each week and remembering their name and dept or business; having a related business topic or concern to discuss at your departments weekly/monthly meeting that's worthy of discussion, not just gossip; spending a hour each week reading your industry's trade papers or periodicals to stay abreast of trends or industry concerns; and others.
You can answer the "Faults" question with a "I've learned the importance of XYZ by (fill in the blank i.e. stopping what I'm doing and really listening to the person; learning a new process; making new contacts; etc, etc). Good luck.

As a seasoned mouse killer, I take my job with some level of satisfaction so I volunteer. I’ll gladly de-mouse your garage. When can I expect my plane ticket?

Is there any Old CB'ers or HAM Operators out here??
Posted:

QuietJohn2, Good question on the inverted V. I'd be lying if I said I knew. We used a chart when shooting a freq range and then adjust the antenna length for it. I don’t have the chart. However, I do know we used more than 25’ of ground space; probably in the area of 35’ to 50’. Azimuth, as you probably know, is important when transmitting because as little as 5 degrees off at your location can become hundreds of miles off where you intend your signal to go. Of course, that’s if you’re really going for distance.
On the ground space again; 25’ sounds short while the 40’ mast is perfect however, I’m positive the web can reveal precise antenna tuning information if not the library. Good luck.

Hey Outcast, yep, Signal Corps '82 to '86. CHAIRBORNE Rangers. LOL That's good stuff!
Unfortunately, I didn't get HAM training at Gordon. I went through RATT (Radio And TeleType) then onto SATCOM. Technically MOS 31C(V9). The V9 was for SATCOM. I know we were not HAM which, come to think of it, is odd because we used AM in RATT. And for the record, I cannot remember the BN at Gordon. The brain is the second thing to go!

Yep, Starship here. I haven’t been on in years.
I agree with Outkast about tuning and antenna length. Especially if you’re going for skip with an inverted “V”. Former military communicator here (AM, FM and computer Satellite commo).
Ran across some news print about the only people able to communicate in the aftermath of Katrina – CB & HAM. When the big Co’s were down for the count, individuals contributed to getting the word out. Good going guys!

Does being a good father make me a bad guy
Posted:

You will never be a bad guy for keeping your childs welfare first. And while this probably goes without saying, you are not responsible for what the mother of your child thinks about you. Remain diligent on your child and you'll reap the parental benefits.
Only the weak minded will keep "bad guy" scores. Ignore them. They don't live in your skin nor do they have your responsibilities. And they certainly don't feed, watch, bathe, tuck into bed or love your child like you do. Remain diligent. The child will forever know who took care of them.

Red, while I personally know that yelling and cursing is Not your normal mode of communication, it happens. Stress makes the finest of us do silly things. I’ve got a laundry list. I once yelled so hard I blew out my vocal cords. I’m going to guess that the build up was long and slow and at 5 to 1, your pressure gauge blew. Normal, dahhhhh! And yes, they are master Button Pushers. I’m convinced that is one of their primary jobs. LOL
Thankfully you got past this without a scratch. As for your children, they have a resiliency that’s immeasurable. I’m sure you’ve done no irreparable damage. Just be sure to buy a large roll of gray duck tape, put a big nail high up on the wall and hang the roll on it for all to see. When they ask what it’s there for, tell them. Note - my Mom used Masking Tape on her 3 kids. I know the taste of that tape well!

Re: CAMPING STORIES.......
Posted:
9/18/2005 9:28:20 AM
Every year my dad and I would camp and fish some of the best Bass lakes in the Pocono’s. We had our favorites but, we always gravitated towards those few lakes that are completely remote with dirt launch ramps, few facilities and the nearest town miles away.
One of our favorites, Cass Lake, has a perfect cove with a bunch of fallen trees, lots of paddies and undergrowth and ideal water depth. Perfect Bass fishing. We’re fishing one early morning and on one of the fallen trees, near the waters edge, is a squirrel eating a nut. It was such a majestic scene. The glistening water, the trees swaying in the light breeze, nature at it’s best. Suddenly, without warning, a huge bass shoots out of the water grabs the squirrel and in a big splash disappears into the water. My dad and I look at each other in shock. Holy Cow! About ten seconds later the Bass reappears and gently deposits another nut near the waters edge!

And don’t forget about using subtle references to your D1ck and Sex. Constantly use everyday words and phrases like: hardness, length, depth, thickness, girth, balls, sack, salty, sticky, wetness, openness, doggies, humping, head, backdoor, repeated insertions, close fitting latex, non-committal contracts, meaningless relations, everyday availability, don’t call us we’ll call you, etc. Also, avoid certain words like: trust, honesty, loyalty and children and you should Not have any problems.

OT - The everyday entertainment of driving here in Florida. I've driven in many major American cities and a few major overseas cities but, Florida has got them all beat for shear insane antics. It's so bad here the local police have a citizens group that reports offenders, the newspaper runs a weekly column on the topic of driving and the morning radio stations announce where the police are set up around town “monitoring“ traffic. The Police authorities know it's such a problem they literally advertise on the radio where they’re going to be on a given morning!

Hi NHM, make the appt but, don’t expect much for the diamond. They buy a market prices and the mark up is huge. It’ll be penny’s on the dollar what they offer you.
OT - with my divorce I tried to remove as many reminders of her as possible. This included pics but, I didn’t remove all. I saved some and the album for my daughter who has lived with me since and to this day. While it was a seriously bad period of life, today I’m glad I did this even though I have zero interaction with my ex. Funny thing, during one of her fits she threw her ring at me and told me to keep it. About 5 years later I had the diamond set into a mans ring. I rarely wear it though.

My Rules for Choosing.
Posted:
8/20/2005 8:24:26 PM
I too follow a few rules when choosing however, to be fair I thought I’d post Happyone7‘s Rules For Choosing.
1. If a woman looks attractive to ME and scrolling through the rest of her pics I find three (3) or more different hair colors, pics slightly out of focus from a distance and what appears to be “posed” relaxed positions, something’s up. Either she’s a color of the month girl, friends are camera challenged & she really isn’t that relaxed. Or, quite possibly, the lights are on but, no one is home. I’ll pass.
2. Honesty is a great rule to live by however, if the headline contains the words “Right”, “Perfect”, “Prince”, “Knight”, “Princess“, “Queen“, or any word related to royalty or a fantasy world, I will, that’s ME, move on.
3. If the woman describes herself as "HOT" and it is the ONLY description she provides, it’s possible her mirror and toxic amounts of make-up have caused irreversible self-image damage. In depth conversations about ecology, the relations of nations and countless other topics would appear to be futile. Appear is the key word here. Me, exit, in that order.
4. If she’s posing in flowers, with kittens, or a bed of stuffed animals, I see my exit, stage right.
5. All glamour shots are either a huge ego at work or Grandpa’s limitless endowment paying the bills. If she doesn’t mention the endowment in her Profile, I, that’s ME, will pass.
6. Women without pictures have a thousand reasons for this. I, that’s ME again, am neither Adonis, George Clooney or insert name of attractive man here but, I have a Current pic or two up. Either have one ready to e-mail privately or don’t EXPECT an exorbitant amount of attention. Men are visual. I didn’t write this fact. So, if no CURRENT pic is available, I’m gone.
7. A million and one points are given for wacky humor and being human. Kids, baggage, past and all. Fake pics are fairly easy to spot however, I’ve been fooled! Fake pics equal my exit.
LOL
OT - what about crotch or butt shots? LOL
Oh no, I’ve got pics of a smiley face, Mimas, Me with family, Venus and a head lamp on my Profile! Not to mention I finally got my 2005 New Years Resolutions list together. Psycho Warning.

spending keeps the economy going. penny pinchers don't. we get paid because people spend. a world of penny pinchers would grind to a halt. money is a means, not an end, no such thing as "appreciating" money.
No exactly true. Without savers, institutions that need to borrow assets to build their business would have to rely on issuing Stock or Bonds in some form OR sell more merchandise while saving all the proceeds in cash to finance their goals. Someone somewhere has to save.
Institutions generally need to borrow (Bonds) or issue Stock in some form to have the capital to spend to continue growing their business's and creating more jobs.
Savers, aka penny pinchers, are a very important cog in the wheel of the economy. Money is a means.
OT - self made.

Both sides of this topic gets so much attention in the threads.
1) They don’t call after, or 2) they call and you don’t want any thing to do with them.
IMO if you make an effort to contact and get no reply, there’s your answer. They are not interested in anything further. Yea, it’s not the politest. Chalk it up: one down & 1 million more to try!
At least you did something and it’s put to rest.

I miss being able to run naked through the yard.
Hey, wait a minute. I can still do that. Be right back!

The day after tomorrow, August 11, 2005, my Grandmother Eveline will be 96. She was born in 1909. Unfortunately, I will miss her birthday party as I am unable to get to Michigan. Grandma is much slower today than she was at 90 but, she still sneaks a few cigs and would love a beer!!
My sister took her to dinner last month and when asked what she wanted to drink she said "a beer and NO g-damn lite beer either, why the heII would I want to drink lite beer." I love that woman. God bless her.

I’m shopping with my daughter’s best friend and after a couple of hours we grab a fountain drink that‘s cold, refreshing and has excessive amounts of fizz. After we both down a few mouthfuls we head into Abercrombie & Fitch which is full of teenagers and parents. And the place is rocking. If you‘ve never been, it‘s got a loud, hip, music charged atmosphere and a lot of stone faced sales people.
Within 5 minutes my daughter’s friend heads to the dressing room and I grab a chair. Minutes pass, people come and go when abruptly the loud music stops, instant silence. Without warning and, as if on cue, the loudest, most forceful burp erupts from behind the half door sized dressing room door. Echoing off the blank walls, it stuns my ears and makes my face wince with its abrupt harshness as it fills the waiting area with a baritone Brrraaaaaappp sound. Before I can gulp any air in preparation for my burst of laughter, the next song blares from the above speakers drowning out the laughter from myself, other waiting customers and the staff, who by the way, aren’t so stone faced after that.

It's interesting what folks think they can get away with. And some do actually get away with it. I don't know any personally but, I've seen a fellow from my area with 2 accounts with the same Exact pic on both. Yes, MAYBE he's not up on the rules but, you've got to wonder.

So, Do the North and South Still have Issues?

I have found that folks that have never left their geographical area and have no interest in learning about people in other parts of our Country have very closed views and opinions. Not all but, I've met more than many. Interestingly, while in Germany I heard the same things from people in the North and South about them not understanding the others ways including speech, slang and food. I heard the same in Spain too. It's a barrier that's for sure.
OT - I believe it's a universal "non-understanding". While that may not be the proper term, I don't believe the South v North is as alive today as it was.
