I agree, seems silly being owned by a pharmacy chain (ok, so Katz owns both - semantics)

curious.....
TSN was taking questions online about the upcoming 30 in 30 piece on Gretzky. Basically it was a "what do you think he should do now?"
some interesting thoughts from OIL Land, such as clean out the front office and hire Wayne back for one.

anyone have any thoughts as to whether they might like to Gretz back with the OIL?
do we think there would be any real chance of it happening?

Maybe we should have someone set us up with some flu shots....
seems to be working for the flames?!?!?!

I am like some others here, not going to judge just yet.
some things in general seem to better and some things seem the same (generally speaking)

there certainly do seem to be to be alot of teams on fire of late and more than a couple of former Oilers (that more than one on here were happy to see go) contributing to that (torres had two tonight and Smytty's name seems to keep popping up)

I will continue to cheer the oil on from afar and hope that improvement continues
that said, as RBG points out, at this point, going to be tough to get T Times in april/may around edmonton

Havent heard what smytty is doing thanks for the update
have to agree on the performance tonight, only got to watch a little of the second, wasnt a bad game to watch but could have been better....
a win is a win and the wall's performance is proving to be stelar, was a little worried earlier in the year but seems to have hit his stride, except the penalty.....

RBG, how are the storm making out this year? My buddy sang the national anthem there last weekend. Our wolverines are doing awesome but not same league.....

Maybe Habi was having a bad day?
we all have them, or have had them.....

that said, when it counts, he better not have anymore, these guys are paid far more than I am and when it comes to it I am paid to not have a 'bad day'.

all that said, I am still hopeful for a better season.
now, I read last night that Legacy was released by the Thrashers, maybe we look at him as a back up?

I agree with both on the radio option
I have no windsheild so wear ear plugs - which are wired for my iPod
riding in groups has shown me that the bikes with shields you can hear the radio, the amount of noise not coming around that big chunk of plexi is amazing

now, that said, I am unsure about the quality of the 'bolt on' radios and speakers, I have only heard the ones that are built into the fairing (ultra glide, road glide, Gold wing etc)
in honesty, it will be cheaper to use your iPod and a set of ear buds, depending on the helmet style, there are 'ear hole' speakers out there for the helmet that stay in when you take it off as well

and yes you are right, nothing like no frame to enjoy the day, but the tunes make it even better

AE
most 'Japanese' cruisers are cheaper than the 'US' ones (HD and victory) a 750 Shadow will work great for what you want to do.
if you haven't ridden before or in a long time, spend the extra couple of bucks and get the windshield and some bags for it. it will make your weekend trips far more enjoyable.
I recommend something with minimal maintenance, ie: fuel injection (most have it now) & shaft drive. more saddle time is better.
if you don't want to get mounted bags incase you want to zip in traffic during the week, a small back rest will make things comfy for a passenger and a nice place to strap a removable tour pack to for your weekend jaunts.

most bike insurance that I looked into is rated on the displacement of the Bike, and what class it is. As BB said, his ride, not so cheap to insure. My HD with riding experience, & an accredited riders course was affordable but far more than a Shadow will be. the 'japanese' cruisers are generally cheaper thanks to volume sales, but with the volume there is also quality, I used to ride a shadow, was a great worry free ride.

when looking around, Honda power deals can make things cheaper if looking at new, lots of folks will be moving really good used bikes about this time of year cheap, if you have somewhere to store it for winter, you should be able to find some great deals. Want ot make one your 'own'? buy a 'plainer' bike and add things that you want, instead of someone else's idea of what you might like.

Good Luck and look forward to seeing you 'out there'!!!

first offence is a life sentence
on the side of the road, once they are satisfied you are drunk, they shoot you!
done, no more menace.
sounds like it would have been justified for this guy
that said, maybe instead of letting him live his life in prisoon we find somehting else?
maybe homeless in a wheel chair in a cold city in our wonderful nation?

sorry, I really do wish we had stronger justice sometimes, I hate to think that my tax dollars are paying for that guy to get 3 squares a day in a warm house.

Man Smells and Body Wash
Posted: 9/9/2009 7:33:30 PM
AE
I have had more than my fair share of women older and younger comment in positive as to the way I smell, and I uyse a body wash.
however, you need to look at things like Old Spice or Axe......
the preffered scent (according to the ladies) is a musky, clean mix.
have gotten a "rrowerr" (ok you type a growl! LOL) from the current "after hours" flavor that I use.

and for the record, most dont look twice at me thanks to the extra weight, but if they get close enough to smell me........

and apparently it worked, no longer single!

know any female freinds/coworkers? get their opinion on different 'flavors' and don't forget each individual body chemistry will react differently to each 'soap'
the only other thing I did, I got a scent that I can use all over, the deodorant, body wash, cologne, are all the same flavor!

I am going to call in AE on this one as he has the best stats out the bunch of us (usually in my mind/reads anyway)

so someone do the math for me $2.65 per hour gross would equal what take home?
oh, and don't forget, some of these 'deserving' individuals might go up a tax bracket.....

yeah there is more to the arguments, but come on, striking for a full time work week being 40 hours......
how about someone in a trade or maybe a roughneck that works minimum 12 hours per day?
for the record, most roughneck jobs are getting better, now a maximum of 15 hours per day including travel, and of course 7 days per week for 24 days, before the government mandated 4 days off.......

ahhhh, 40 hour work weeks...... how I msss thee!!!! LOL
I work in management and until the slow down I still worked way more than 40 hours per week!

You know, waaayyyy Back when, Unions had their place
and maybe for somehtings they still do, but for the most part I am not a fan of them, they do more damage to the economy as a whole than the good they do for workers rights.
NOW, back in the time when coal miners made 30 cents per day and lived in tin huts and worked 18 hour shifts..... Absolutely, they were needed!
but when I hear of the cost of a vehicle is 50% union benifits.......

is moving it downtown going to be better?
not for those of us from out of town!
but we are not the ones that count.

if you can find the stats to back up the NDP in Sask claim please post.
However, as a SASK child and living in the NDP oil patch in the late 90's crash, it was Not the NDP that brought it back.
they were voted out and the Sask Party changed the revenue structure to attract drilling and business and, TaDA!

it helps that we used to explore for oil at 30 per bbl and think we were making money in SASK and now it has fallen to 70......
that is why Sask is running - the Bakken Play (some of the most talked about conventional oil in the world) has made the biggest difference.

Fresh water is used in Gas for the Fracturing of the zone to bring production on line as produced water, for the majority, will not work in hand with the chemicals for the 'gel' used to carry the sand and start the fracture which the sand then keeps open.

Fresh water in oil is used for 'flooding' operations where the zones do not produce enough water that is then injected around the field to push more oil out of the rock to bring to surface, the water is then processed and re-used.
the problem is you have to replace the oil with something in a flood situation and it is usually fresh water, either taken from a stream or water table.

oh, and don't forget, all conventional drilling mud is made with fresh water and very little of it is recycled- usually left in a pit to dry out.

I have trouble with the stat for agriculture useage of water......
only to the fact that it either goes back into the ground (and brings nuritishment to the food we eat) or evaporates into the air to become rainfall......
yes it may be used in a wasteful manner but not nearly as much as the oil sector does.

Great discussion though, some folks have some great comments, others may be educating themselves by reading.

I do like the comment about how we can't just blame ED. closest to the truth yet I think.

ok, AE, you have some valid points and I won't argue most of them

however 2005 = 16911 wells drilled in Alberta
2771 were oil 12711 were for gas the rest were dry or service (usually SW disposal)
2008 had the highest amount of OIL wells drilled at 3287 and 10268 gas

Alberta ran on Natural Gas and still tries to - unless you are working in bonneyville or Fort Mac

yes spending here is high, but saying this province runs on oil is incorrect in my mind when talking about drilling figures
(CAODC website provided well drilled information quoted above)
the Alberta gov was talking this morning about the debt (ok local MLA) and was saying that even they were surprised as they were forcasting gas at around $5.50 per gj (MCF) not the current $3.10 - therefore revenues are down........

OK, so we want to blame ED for all the troubles but most of you believe that Ralph was better.

let me pose this;
why is it that royalty rates had not changed in his entire reign? (if memory serves)
Realistically you could be blaming Ralph for this as he did not take anywhere CLOSE to Alberta's fair share.
Had they taken their share over the last 15 years instead of just trying to get their share in the last 2 while world economy slows down and oil prices halve themsleves and gas prices fall farther, I am quite certain that ALBERTA as a whole would not be having to run a deficit. or of course there is the other option of not doing any infrastructure work to try and keep people working and not running the deficit.

but that is just my opinion
and yeah, maybe the comparrison about living under NDP rule was not fair, but it is true. there was no work in Sask when I left to come here thanks to the NDP and it was getting worse. Saying live with my beatings is not quite right. Would have looked closer to the truth with Live with me and watch me give away all your food and freinds or go live across the street where I send all the food and freinds.

I have a small problem with your post
it is not the concentration on 'Big Oil' per se but the fact that Natural Gas - what most small and mid cap players go after - that is at an all time 10 year low (currently $3.10 per gj) that is causing most of the problem.
yes Sask and BC are beating us in land sale
Sask = OIL even at $70 per bbl it is still a money maker
BC= Horn River - possibly the largest gas find in the world with reserves in the trillions.

yes Alberta has Oil - Tar Sands - most expensive oil on the planet - can you imagine how many more job losses there had been if the incentives had not been waived for the large players (all the oil sands players). There is other oil, and some of it is being drilled into, but the oilpatch economy geared up for the activity level we had, now we are back to where we were 4 years ago, there is still work but there are so many more of us that we are all hurting.

NO, I am not necessarily a fan of Eddie, I was a fan of Ralph

the economy is as much to blame for this as Eddie. NO one seen this coming (in my opinion)

will a different politician fix things?
Maybe, but not without help, certainly just changing people or parties won't

and IMHO if you think the conservatives are bad....... trying living with an NDP government for a few years.
maybe the wildrose would be good - the Sask Party certainly helped - but don't forget, those guys for the most part were the best of the best from more than one party to begin with.

Tambellini was reported as to have officially dropped pursuit of a deal involving Dany Heatly, the price was too high, the player was not happy, etc. etc

anyway
second thought, Radio reports that Charlie Huddy after nine years in the Oiler Organization as a coach has moved on to the Dallas Stars to work under New Coach Marc Crawford.

any thoughts?
I was not sure what Charlie coached so I don't have an opinion as to whether he might be missed or not.

since I don't watch the show I don't really care about it, so won't get into the he said/she said parts of that argument.
this should be All about the kids, Plain and simple!
and yes I believe the TV company will do whatever it can to get ratings as will the stars, (see Orange County Chopper - ie; Paul Jr)

however - Why not maintain a house for the kids - the Family home in particular?
then the two parents share an appartment? or condo?
then you are only taking care of one yard, put locks on the bedroom doors so when you are not there the other half does not have access. You still have your own private place and the kids come first.
would be difficult to set up initially, but I think it would be workable......

now, get a house each and keep a house just for the kids????
well if you win the lottery, and make sure the staff in the family home never changes and the kids still go to the same private school so there is no trauma.......

Mac T on TSN????
well colorless or not, could he be any worse than what's his name that grew the playoff beard, still trying to figure out what he was blathering on about when I did listen...

thanks for the info on the Calgary thing - there is a thought, since Both Teams vehemently denied trading Pronger, how long until he moves??
since most folks never say what they mean anymore...

A good point on the cancer legging up another team other than us, but if he is as bad as he seems to be coming across, he helps for how long? one season (see ottawa results)? before it all goes to crap?
I am officially not going to hold my breath but continue to hope that they do something smart, not knee jerk. Maybe they will talk to the new coach for his opinion as to who he would be able to work with best for whatever system he is going to run? (ok, wishful thinking at best.... LOL)

Had not heard of Calgary making a play for Heatly, that could be interesting.

there is a good chance of the "edmonton jinx' hitting us again too.

Read a different take on the Heatley possibility over the weekend.
was mentioned of the under achieving, but not for just Heatley the Sens as a whole.

also was written that maybe we want to be careful of Heatley as he has a habit of walking out on teams, and being a "ME" player instead of TEAM. The writer had a possibly valid point about him being a possible cancer - do you really want a one way player whispering in the young Oilers ears about don't worry about backchecking etc.etc.

an interesting thought for me at least as I dont follow as closely as some on here.

Yes I agree with RBG, the pure scoring talent can't be denied, but is the overall price (not just the cost) worth it in the long run?
looking forward to the thoughts on this.....

not so it seems.
ok, Quinn is known for getting his team to play and working well with young players, right?
isn't that what this younger team could use?
my thoughts anyway.....

I would have to agree about Hemsky being moved eventually. He is a talented player that is not performing to his potential. either his fault or lack of "quaterback" linemates that I seen (briefly) in the IIHF game with him and jagr.
I am in the either or category about Jagr as well - yeah he may be getting old but didn't Chelios play into his 40's effectively?

My Biggest hope, like every one else I am sure, is that something positive is done and soon!

no one has heard any news on coaching yet?
have to ask as this IS my Oiler news information center!
ok, maybe a bit impatient, but you would think they would want a coaches input for the upcoming draft (ok a month plus - but still...)

there is the thought that Jagr knows he is not all he used to be, and is admitting it, leadership and experience in the dressing room for maybe a reduced price, might be worth it. IF he is saying he wants to play third line I certainly would not be offering him big cash.

as was said above, it is all specualtion anyway.
personally I thought I would mention it and see what others thought.

as for feeding the team viagra, might work but I would think they would be rather stiff legged skaters as well...........

food for thought.....
I watched part of the Canada IIHF game last night, Watched Hemsky crash the net and score, and some other nice plays - set up by guess who? Jagr!
Mayeb, Just Maybe if we (Oilers) managed to find a talented enough line for this guy to play with he might do more? after one play they showed Jagr and Hemmer on the bench having a long talk, then they came out with what looked like a desgined play, once again orchestrated by Jagr......

as for the coaching and management - I just hope we get better than we had!

Riders of noisy modified motorcycles, hope you are listening

OK, this started last year I believe, so will see what my meory can dredge up.......

the bylaw is already in place regarding noise, there is an allowable decibel level. What was being reported last year was that police were standing on streets downtown and using a decibel meter and handing out fines on that basis
This immediately sparked outrage and calls for them to limit the noise at the construction sites downtown, garbage trucks in back alleys on quiet mornings, modified import and NA based vehicles (cars).

I find it very disappointing that one poster keeps saying to memorize and call in license plates, but, I was not there when said loud motorcycle went by.

personally, I ride a HD, it is loud, BUT, it still has mufflers in place. Would it set off a decibel meter in an enclosed area (whyte ave) maybe. Do I feel it is illegal? NO
however I don't rev my bike to the limiter at every opportunity
to those brother riders that have removed the mufflers from their pipes and ride like morons - you deserve the ticket you get!
for the rest of us that are out enjoying a responsible (or semi responsible - OHSix and BB come to mind hehe) ride - we are no different than your grandparents out on their sunday drive.

to the poster that wants to turn in most if not all motorcycles, that is your perogative, but I certainly hope you are also calling in every modified vehicle exhaust, the city bus with the leaky loud exhaust and the city cop that flashed his lights to drive through an intersection that he didn't feel like stopping at then shut them off again.

have a Great Day all!
and Brothers/Sisters, ride Safe this season!
