Electronic Music
Posted: 12/11/2007 8:05:29 AM
I'm into EBM & industrial stuff mainly (sorry to add to the list of sub genres but these 2 have been around for at least 20 years now), it's how I got into dance music. I've got to say though, anyone who's into happy hardcore is a charver & is seriously lacking in taste.

Best mate stole my date!
Posted: 12/11/2007 7:51:09 AM

she doesn't have many friends

I wonder why, eh? Quite frankly I wouldn't expect any mate of mine to do that, but your "best mate"? It sounds like she may keep you around to make her feel better, & if you did meet a decent bloke who cared for you I'd be willing to bet good money you wouldn't see her too much. It isn't normal to make a play for someone's date when you're there for moral support & I hope she gets treat by other people the way she treats them - she's not a friend because a friend wouldn't do that to you. I'd take the advice of those of your other friends who're telling you to cut her off if I were you. Although msg 30's idea is a pretty damn good one if you can be arsed to wait.

Some people....!
Posted: 12/11/2007 7:38:45 AM
I hold the door for whoever is following me, regardless of age or gender (and expect doors not to be left to slam in my face in return, like) - it's got **** all to do with anything other than common courtesy, which obviously that old harridan is sorely lacking. It always amuses me when OAPs go on about the youth of today having no manners - each generation teaches the next so...

Do men like women to be keen or do they like them to play hard to get?
Posted: 12/3/2007 10:44:50 AM
A woman who played "hard to get" wouldn't get it if they tried with me. Mind games are for the emotionally immature & are a piss poor start to a relationship.

Last I read she'd moved to Panama. Besides, he was declared legally dead a few years ago, so the whereabouts of his former wife will be the least of his worries. In answer to the question I'd have nowt to do with him were I in her shoes - she's already mourned him & come out the other side.

does this game need to be banned
Posted: 12/3/2007 10:36:06 AM
Oh, FFS... it's A GAME! It's not real - teenagers will know the difference, they're full of hormones not idiocy. Games are a form of escapism & entertainment, like TV, film & literature. Let's just ban every form of entertainment with the potential to influence the terminally stupid, shall we? I'd have thought with all that's going on in the world today people would have more to worry about than a time management game, but evidently not.

$ vs £ vs oil/petrol
Posted: 11/12/2007 8:45:07 AM

When the GBP is at an all time high against the USD and crude oil is bought/sold in USD why are we being ripped off at the fuel pumps.

Because the oil companies have motorists by the balls. As long as you're dependant on a car they can shaft you as much as they like, basically.

Shaved, hairy or inbetween?
Posted: 11/12/2007 7:34:04 AM
I just go natural, meself. If my girlfriend asked me to trim it I would probably accede to her wishes, though. I'm not bothered what women go with as long as they're not hairier than me! As for all this crap about hygiene, if hair impedes your ability to bathe you must have some bloody rug down there It's a very modern trend, shaving your genitals, tbh I don't get the fuss about it - surely it's a personal choice? Besides, if blokes shave they just achieve that fetching "US pornstar" look - classy.

When did wine become a woman only drink? Quick, someone tell France!

Real men are everywhere, incidentally. Funnily enough, there's plenty of men out there who don't use toiletries too - just sit on public transport during rush hour & you'll sniff them out. Oh aye - handbags? Where like, cos I've never seen one aside from the odd tranny?

Formula one !! any fans ?
Posted: 11/11/2007 5:08:36 PM
Quite frankly I find motorsports incredibly dull, F1 especially. I really don't get the appeal of going to one of the grand prix, I mean you're just going to see a very loud blur every time one of them passes you, which doesn't strike me as great entertainment. It's hardly a contest of athletes, either - got to be the only sport I can think of where the competitors sit on their arses the entire time.

I don't really see why there would be a problem. Unless of course you can't get your other half to tear themselves away from the console or PC Unlike books or films, at least you can always join in on multiplayer games. Besides it gives us something to do while Eastenders is on

Coping with christmas alone
Posted: 10/10/2007 10:25:17 AM
I'm not big on Christmas cos I don't have kids. I've had some lovely relaxing times just ignoring the whole thing & some good times inviting people round or going to someone else's. If you want to ignore it it's a bloody good idea to not switch on the telly. Actually, it's a good idea to not switch on the telly anyway, Christmas TV is uniformly awful from the film you've seen a thousand times before to the so-depressing-they're-farcical soaps.

No, I somehow doubt I would've saved it - I never rescued any rodents my tom had decided to have as his playmates for a few hours, after all. Flea ridden, disease spreading little **stards, the lot of them. Oh, and MRSA is found in hospitals, so if you visit someone in hospital you might get it but you're extremely unlikely to bring it with you.

I can't dance to save my life but love dancing to music I really like. Though if I'm pissed I'll dance to just about anything. Mind you, liking hardcore punk, industrial, metal, etc. means that most of the time I can get away with just jumping around like a loon
I never really watch other people dance (after all, I hope no-one watches me!) so I couldn't really say what "moves" I find attractive tbh.

Love songs- are the best ones written by men?
Posted: 10/8/2007 7:46:20 AM
I don't really like love songs. Relationships going wrong songs & break up songs, now that's a different matter . It's really all down to taste though, isn't it? Quite frankly I'd regard listening to the likes of Sting & the Carpenters as cruel & unusual punishment. Speaking of Sting (though I'd rather not) I thought Fields of Gold was a folk song that he may have arranged but didn't write.

I've got a cast iron king size, which I picked cos I like the way it looks & it'll last for ages. I chose the mattress by picking one I felt like I could fall asleep on in the shop. It was obscenely expensive yet worth every penny.

Weight loss/maintenance
Posted: 9/24/2007 11:31:46 AM
I've never been able to diet because I'm an utter pig. I've found that by eating slightly more healthily (emphasis on the slightly there) & by exercising more I've improved my figure. It takes around 3-6 months to see any appreciable difference & if I don't keep up the exercise it comes back on like, but that's the way it goes for me, at any rate. I reckon you can starve yourself any number of ways but if you don't get more active you won't lose weight for good.

Women sell better than men..
Posted: 9/24/2007 11:22:00 AM
That said, men-folk are becoming more shallow by the day, with more and more adverts for product directed at men.

Ad & marketing execs certainly hope men are becoming more amenable to more types of product but that doesn't necessarily make it so.
Quite frankly I can't see who car ads are aimed at apart from perhaps advertising awards & when it comes to computers I don't see PC World aiming their campaigns at any one gender either.
IMO they're trying to make more products unisex in order to broaden their markets. Hell, those Dove ads work for me

Animation - kids stuff or not?

I don't think animation's kid's stuff at all. I also enjoy comics (or whatever the hell they're calling them now in order to make them sound more "mature") & think that just because something uses pictures, be it onscreen or literature, doesn't mean it's less valid an artform.

Maddie's fund
Posted: 9/17/2007 11:28:38 AM
As far as I was aware the trust was most definitely not going to be used for legal fees, and quite rightly so.
I was talking about this the other day with my sister & she said that the massive publicity campaign associated with Madeline's disappearance would most likely result in her being killed by her captors as it'd be too hard to evade detection, which IO thought was a bloody good point. So even if there isn't something dodgy about the whole situation (& I for one have thought for quite some time that something doesn't add up) the actions of the missing girls parents would've most likely got her killed anyway.
To be honest I figured that if she'd been abducted then she was either going to be sold into adoption (until the massive publicity campaign, anyway - there's only so much you can do to change a child's appearance) or killed, possibly with the sort of preamble that doesn't bear thinking about. The only other way she'd still be alive also doesn't bear thinking about. Why on earth do so many people believe the girl's still alive?
As for her parents making "an error of judgement" if they'd left kids that age unattended in an unlocked apartment in this country social services would be most interested. Another thing is that parents, relatives & friends are usually the main suspects in a case like this so why are so many people horrified at the suggestion in this case?
Mind you, I find any outpourings of vicarious grief distasteful in the extreme so I suppose I'm a tad biased when it comes to such media circuses. How many of the general public give a flying **** about the children who've gone missing since this case? Or before, for that matter. FFS...

How important are a womens eating habits?
Posted: 9/13/2007 6:57:46 AM
I once went out with a vegetarian who didn't like veg (& no, sadly I'm not joking). This most definitely became problematic when it came to me cooking for her as after a while I wanted her to try something other than marguerita pizza, cheesy baked potato or cheese omelette.
Anyone who nagged me about what I eat would be a no-no & I think that chewing with your mouth open is a digusting habit. Women who constantly order diet food kind of grate after a while, too.

Cocaine!
Posted: 9/13/2007 6:47:21 AM
Coke's been cheap since the early 90s when it lost its "rich man's drug" status & is no easier to get hold of now than it was then. I've taken it a few times & while it doesn't seem to have a great effect beyond giving you a self-confidence boost with the side effect of talking bollocks for 20 minutes or so I've noticed that it makes people aggressive, argumentative & arrogant. It also seriously screws around with your heartbeat & can be lethal when taken with alcohol, which of course is when most people do take it.
To be honest I don't think it's any easier to get drugs now than it was when I was a kid. The myth of dealers offering cheap drugs to schoolkids is just that. Remember, there's talk of an early election so the politicians are going to be coming out with all sorts of lies, damned lies & statistics along with headline grabbing "policies".

Edit re msg 9: But was it especially cheap to lure in children or did the dealer in question just happen to live near a school? Were the children being targeted? How old was the person's youngest customer? It was a myth when I was at school & it still is now.

I saw a video of theirs on TV & thought it was laughable - like cross between Helloween & Poison (shudder). I really didn't think (& sincerely hoped) that anyone was making music like that anymore.
The last new loud records I got were the new Slayer & Shellac LPs, neither of whom are new on the scene, really. With me it's loud music in general rather than your stereotypical metal, though.

Asking a person to change
Posted: 9/13/2007 6:15:27 AM
I really have never seen the point in it. I've been out with women who've liked my body (obviously when I was in good condition, I'm well out of it at the moment) but have wanted me to stop going to the gym. I've had the same thing with the way I dress, among other things. It's as though the women in question saw me as a sort of rough cast of a man that they can sculpt in the detail on rather than a person in my own right. Compromise is fine in a serious relationship; wanting to share your taste in music, film, literature, etc. when you're seeing someone is natural; wanting to control a person's appearance & change their habits is just plain ****ed up. I figure if someone's attracted to you, they should be attracted to who you are, not who they could make you.

Oh, & msg 6 - run for the hills - seriously.

Annoying music
Posted: 9/13/2007 5:32:03 AM
Well, being a curmudgeon & a music nut there's loads of music I find extremely irritating but when it comes to being on hold it's the advert style ones that get me - where they repeatedly tell you how great they are as a company & how important you & your custom is over some godawful lounge music while you wait for what seems like an eternity. A close second is boyband songs that've been recorded onto the company's system a little too loud so the sound's distorted, which combines 2 of my musical pet hates.
