we're off to a 2-1 start and so far our bats have looked good in this young season and there's a lot of potential with this ball club. the last 2 years have been great with back to back division titles but i want to see them at least win a playoff series, hell at least a playoff game then that's when progress will start to take shape. the cubs just have to put all the pieces together and when that happens then we'll see some fireworks.

Ok, I'll give that a try with the general template and see how that looks. I dont know why its so hard for me to write about myself, you think it would be easy ha ha ha! I know that a lot of my interests are the same as most guys referring to sports, hanging with friends, music etc. but that's what I'm into. I've been involved with sports as long as I can remember. But I'll work with my profile a bit, see if I can make it more unique.

profile advice

That is true I do need to put some newer pics up, but in the meantime I did make a few changes to my profile like you suggested Mike. Some people might think its corny but that's always been a favorite phrase of mine. I did make some adjustments to the profile itself, but I'm still trying to think of ways to add some humor to it. Also, my main pic that makes me look like Dante from Clerks, that's not necessarily a bad thing is it?

For starters, I do have confidence in myself but still I would like to know if there was anything I could do to improve my profile. Do I have enough about myself? Is there not enough? etc. To anyone who leaves posts on here, I am open to many suggestions but I ask for the criticism to be constructive and respectful. So with that said, any suggestions?

COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON

well like i said before even though the conference championship game wouldn't have a major bowl bid on the line, i'm sure any team would like to be c0nference champions at the least. i'm sure any team would want to be conference champs at least. as for the #8 vs the #10 scenario if the #10 team makes it into the top 8 then they make the playoffs. the fallen #8 team wouldn't be done, they would still get to go to a bowl. i'm still for having postseason bowl games i just feel that the 4 major bowls should be used for the national championship playoffs. in the florida situation i wouldn't sit tebow, even though its not right that certain conferences dont have a championship game. maybe those conferences should work something out to where they have one. in the tebow case i think that any player would love to have more games to play, for the purposes of keeping the season going, getting more experience, tv exposure, more notice from nfl scouts, ect.

i'm all for keeping the conference championship games, but what i think needs to happen is the automatic bids should be done away with for this system to work. of course still have the conference championship games to determine the champions of each respected conference but in this system idea the only thing that matters is getting into the top 8. after all the games in the regular season have been played you look at who is in the top 8 and those 8 teams go to the playoffs. in your #20 ole miss beating #3 florida scenario if florida were to drop from #3 to lets say #7 the gators would still make the playoffs because they finished the season in the top 8 despite losing the sec conference game. i do agree with you dennyden there will be some problems for any playoff system but i guess the way i see it is in order for a playoff system to work, something will have to go and in this case its the conference automatic bids. even though there wouldn't be an automatic major bowl bid on the line there's still something to play for.

i think a playoff system in college football would work out pretty well. here's my ideal version of a playoff system in college football. the top 8 teams in the country make it to the playoffs and will be seeded accordingly. all the first round games will be played in the 4 major bowls (orange, rose, sugar, fiesta). then the 2 semi final games and the championship game will be played at the bowl who's turn it is to host which means you could still continue the rotation of bowls. here's an example of how this idea would work. for this example lets say the rose bowl is hosting the championship and the top 8 teams are florida, oklahoma, usc, notre dame, ohio state, west virginia, texas, and alabama.
round one: #1oklahome vs #8 west virginia in the orange bowl
#2florida vs #7 notre dame in the sugar bowl
#3usc vs # 6 texas in the rose bowl
#4 ohio state vs #5 alabama in the fiesta bowl
semi finals: #1 oklahoma vs #7 notre dame
#3 usc vs #5 alabama both games played at rose bowl
national championship: #5 alabama vs #7 notre dame played at rose bowl
national champion: notre dame
ok the results were biased because i am a notre dame fan, but you can put in whoever you want. this is just an example of my idea of how the national championship playoff system would look. personally, i think it would work. what do you all think of that idea for a playoff?

AC/DC rules and they'll always rule, 50 years from now we'll still be talking about AC/DC. They've stuck to the same good style all these years and they still kick ass. The bands these days suck! All they are are just a bunch of skateboarders who learned to play guitar, at least that's how it seems. I would rather listen to a bunch of guys in their 50's than fall out boy any day!

there's a lot of teams that have 6 wins and are going to bowl games, so whats the problem with ND going to one? yeah they sucked it up to finish the year and i agree to that but they qualified for a bowl, a bowl invitation was offered, and they took it but yet you blame ND. why dont you blame the bowl committee, they're the ones who offered.

well inkedemon pretty much summed up my response to the notre dame comment. i agree on both sides of the argument, there are way too many bowl games than what are needed but at the same time i think its great for us the fans and the teams because it means more football for us to watch and one more game for the players and coaches. of course it must end sometime, but you might as well stretch it as far as you can. and chicubs27 i am a notre dame fan but in a way i agree with you about them going to a bowl. yeah they got their 6 wins to qualify but i almost dont think they deserve it in a way. ND in my opinion should be 9-3 right now. our losses to boston college, usc, and msu i have no problems with. we just straight up lost those. but the games we lost against syracuse, north carolina, and pitt were games that should have been won. if we didn't collapse in the 4th quarter in every one of those 3 games we'd probably be in one of the higher bowls like the gator bowl. what makes you think you can win a bowl if you cant finish off teams like syracuse?!! at this point i just want to see them win a bowl game, i was 8 the last time they won one and i'm going to be 23 next month, its crazy when you think about that.

oh i agree, my buddy who used to be in a band he gives me constructive criticism all the time and most of the time its when i ask him about something. i go to him a lot because he's had a lot more experience dealing with women than i have. he's a real good friend to me and i've never had one like him. before when all those other guys were calling me a troll and stuff thinking i was hijacking the thread, i really was not trying to change the topic of the forum and i really was wanting to know if i was attractive. not to be modest or anything, but i like to think that i have a lot of great qualities that a girl is looking for and i was just wanting to know. touche, when you say too attractive do you mean like too good to be true or something like that?

thank you touche that gives me a lot of confidence to hear what you said about women emailing me left and right, only wish it was true, lol! do you think i'm really that attractive seriously? not trying to sound funny, but i have people here in my home town tell me so many things that i need to change about myself that i dont know what to think. about 99 percent of the time i do write the other person, just because someone has to take initiative and do it. also, not many people message me. i'm not trying to start a pity party or anything i'm just stating the facts. its always been hard for me when contacting someone because i never really know what to say to get things rolling. even online its tough when contacting someone, to be honest i dont know if age has anything to do with it. and i'll go out on a limb and call you the coolest mom, i dont know for sure but i'm willing to be you're cooler than my mom. and speaking of indiana i have family all over the place there. in my opinion jar, even though you haven't heard anything from mrs. columbia i would still try and talk to other people while you're waiting. there's nothing wrong with having a plan B. im not telling you to cheat, but more like take your cake and eat it too, you know what i mean?

yeah you'd think women would like a guy who can cook or an aspiring baseball player, and dont get me wrong my buddy isn't one of those metal band pukes who dont give a crap about anyone but themselves and just have one night stands all the time. he is a real nice guy and he treats women with the up most respect. i've joked with him all the time about it, "its the hair dude, its gotta be the hair" lol! but overall i've never quit anything unless i've been forced to so i dont plan on quitting this any time soon. even if i dont find the right girl, it has been nice to have conversations with cool people like you and touche.

well i'll tell you one thing, if i didn't meet anyone after paying 50 bucks on a dating site i would call it quits after that. i think it was match dot com that said if you dont find anyone after your first 6 months the next 6 are on us. well, what makes you think you're going to find someone in the next 6 months if you couldn't find anyone in the first 6? something really funny about all this in regards to what you guys were saying about age, mentality, and all that stuff. i talked my buddy into putting a profile up on here and within the first month he met a girl from dixon, IL, they hit it off, and now they've been going together for about 3 months now. he's had more success in a month than i have in 2 1/2 years. but then again he was the drummer in a band so he's got the hair thing going on and well me.......i'm just a cook who's inspiring to be a baseball player.

but the most success i had on here was this. i decided to make another post for this one, hope its okay with you guys. i contacted another girl from champaign, IL and luckily enough she replied back to me, i haven't had much success on woman replying back when i write them on here. we got to talking some and we were able to learn a great deal about each other and i felt that things were going great so i decided to tell her that i wanted to take things to the next level because i liked her and wanted to get to know her even more. at first she felt kind of indifferent about that but she told me if that's how i felt then we really should talk more. so my confidence was really high after that and we continued to talk.
well anyways, in the late winter of 2007 the Illinois state high school wrestling finals were to be held in champaing at the university of illinois and my buddy and i were heading down there for that so i decided to ask her if she wanted to meet, have a drink or some lunch and finally interact with one another face to face. she tells me that she wouldn't like that because she doesn't know me. i was kind of shocked to hear that from her considering the fact we had been talking for a good period of time and i thought she would have been comfortable by that time. so nothing but another let down, we continued to talk for a while and became friends on myspace and whatnot but we never really talked much after that. i've considered quitting on here a few times but i always stay thinking that a girl who's kind of like me just might slip her way on here you know?

sorry about that jar i guess i never did finish my point there, but anyways that was indeed what i was getting at. trying to get them to meet in person is very tough. i've been on this site for about 2 1/2 years now and i really haven't had much success in meeting women. after two months on here i received an IM from a girl in rockford, IL and we got to talking and we had a very nice phone conversation even though i could tell she was nervous as i'm sure she could tell i was nervous as well. but afterwards she left me a text saying she liked me a lot and she wanted to stay in contact. so i write back and say ok i would like that too and then she drops a bomb on me and the bomb is that the pic she was using was not of her but of her cousin or niece one of the 2 and that she was somebody completely different and that just hurt because i felt kinda betrayed because she had lied to me. i called it off after that becuase i dont tolerate liars.

yeah jar she is single but i wouldn't waste my time if i were you, she is a very controlling person who likes to be dominant on everything which is why i'm currently living with my grandma, lol! but yeah actually i did try looking her up to see if i could find her but the thing is i have no idea where she moved too. i know that sounds crazy but she never told me and i have no idea where to start. i guess kids at that age dont think to give out information like that. and for sure its easy to meet people here online because they way i see it, its hard to just walk up to a beautiful woman in a bar, club, ect. and just say "i like you". i sure as hell cant do it. online is very more relaxing when you meet someone and start chatting. you can actually think about what you're going to say and even proof read what you've typed. the only thing that sucks about meeting people online is getting to the point of meeting them in person. i dont blame a woman for not wanting to jump at the chance to meet in person, the internet can be a very scary place because you dont know who is out there.

dont worry about it jar, its no big deal. things like that happen in internet forums. after reading what the two of you have had to say i only wish i had similar stories to share, but unfortunatley i don't. i didn't really date too much in high school and the only real girlfriend i had moved away before junior high, if that even counts as a girlfriend. i'm probably not the best person here to give advice considering the fact i'm only 22 and you guys have been around and seen a lot more than i have (this is not an age joke or anything like that), but i'll tell you one thing in reagards to the compliment thing that you were talking about touche just listen to this, my mom's boss is about 30 years younger than her and her last boyfriend wasn't the best pick of the litter but he wasn't too bad of a guy. everytime she did something like make some kind of craft or plant flowers, clean the living room, ect. she would expect a compliment for everything that she did and her boyfriend ended up getting annoyed at it and just told her one day wondering why she needed a compliment for everything. eventually they called it quits but at the same time compliments are nice but some of the things she did were just everyday things that had to be done. so talk about people over complimenting, its crazy when you get people who demand them.

i agree with what you said jar61, sometimes you just want to try to make someone happy and brighten up their day by making them smile or whatever. i think some people can overdo it and the woman gets the impression of the guy surrendering his feelings, strength, ect.

i have to disagree with that touche22 , a guy can be nice and still have some backbone and not just give in to a woman on whatever. one thing i do agree with is that it is wrong for a guy to give up who he is and everything about him just to gain the affection of a woman and going overboard or to sum it up getting to the point where he is whipped. but the thing is a guy who is a flat out douche bag and treats women like crap and neglects her does not deserve her. nice guys can have a relationship without surrendering their strength and backbone and at the same time still treat a woman like a princess. but the way i see it, good things happen to horrible people so whatever.

mr. mxy, you are being really stupid about this whole thing DROP IT!!!! none of this is an important issue but you're making it into one. if me asking a woman's opinion about myself on this thread has upset you that much, you could have at least been polite to me and explained to me nicely about how you felt but instead you start pointing the finger at me and attack me by calling me a hijacker and a troll. are you trying to tell me that treating people with respect stops when you get to a computer screen?
i know we're hundreds of miles away from one another and we've never met but even through the internet you can still treat people with dignity and respect. you dont know me so you dont have any right to accuse me of being a hijacker, that was not my intention. if i was a hijacker i would have left by now but i had intended to participate in this thread as well. and if you're still going to be the way you have been towards me, well then you have got some serious issues.
in closing, dont judge a person till you know them!

mr. mxy and anyone else who is calling me a hijaker, troll, ect, you are blowing this thing way out of proportion. this is an internet forum thread, not a courtroom murder case so you can stop pointing the finger at me. i ask an opinion about myself on an internet thread, well laddie freaking dah! there are greater tragedies in the world! and the thread subject doesn't mean squat, i've seen forums go all over the place and completely off the subject and if you consider that a crime then go talk to your congressman!

a priest and a rabbi are walking down the street and they see this little boy coloring on the sidewalk. the priest asks the rabbi, "hey, you wanna screw that kid over there?" and the rabbi replies "screw him out of what?".

Things I've Learned From Online Dating

one thing i've learned from being on here is that a lot of the women on here (referring mostly to my age range) have no intention of really starting anything let alone meeting you. so i wonder, if they're not serious why be on here? and i think its more for a confidence boost like seeing how many favorites lists they'll appear on. granted, there are a lot of messed up people on the internet looking to hurt someone, i understand completely on that but there are nice and serious guys out there who are trying to meet that special someone. i sometimes wonder why i'm still on here.

has anyone tried the other online dating sites?

in my opinion what is the point anymore of online dating? you cant even call it dating for that matter. i've been on here for a little over 2 years now and have had no success whatsoever. granted, a lot of people have. a lot of the women i've messaged for the majority of the time dont even bother to write me back. all i see is "read deleted" or "read". "read deleted" i get, but "read" come on dont beat around the bush, a response isn't too much to ask for. maybe i'm not attractive enough who knows? i suggested this site to my buddy and in less than a month he met someone and got into a relationship just like that. it makes me wonder when i'll get my turn?
