Awesome job Dawn! Thanks for doing this.

If you want help with doing the mass email as well to go with this thread, let me know, it sure helps to get the crowds out!

Also Will was looking into the Old Spaghetti Factory as a change of venue. The Manager is quite happy to accommodate us on their outdoor patio.

It's at The Forks so still central for folks, it has a large out door patio where they would reserve a section for POF'ers. He spoke with the manager who would be happy to have us. The drinks are cheaper than Baja and well who knows, change can be good.

I suggested he post it on Facebook and see what other folks think, he can't post here.

Maybe seeing as how I also can't do the events and mass email anymore, but you can, maybe you can post here with the mass email and Will can post the info on Facebook?

Unfortunately some people have been complaining about receiving the mass email to notify them of the Baja Friday's and the moderators, without verifying why - have advised me that they have received a complaint that I am "harassing and sending numerous emails." and have advised me if they get one more complaint they will delete me - permanently.

And I never complained once to the moderators about the numerous emails I have received from some mass email recipients many which were extremely rude, very inappropriate, propositional and harassing. I just deleted them and blocked the people.

Instead of people turning off their event notification, they have complained and I am being reprimanded despite POF encouraging mass emails with an event.

Therefore, I refuse to be involved in the drama and will not be posting anymore Baja Friday's.

Sad but true, I tried to bring some fun back to POF, guess it's not meant to be,

Hopefully enough folks will remember we will still hold them every Friday all summer long and that they are encouraged to bring friends.

So for those curious - Last nite's Baja was fun. Thanks to the folks who came out. Good crowd. Folks seemed to have fun. Drinks were flowing and so was the laughter. We kept Paul our server hoppin'. Weather was beeeeautiful.

For those folks too shy to come out or sitting on the sidelines. Don't be shy, get in there, introduce yourself, join the fun!

SECOND UPDATE - Saturday, July 17th - Sigh well it seems some folks who receive the mass email and don't like it, have gone to the moderators and complained rather than turning off their event notification option in their profile. (as stated by Plenty of Fish rules)

So I have been accused by the moderators of sending out numerous emails and harassing people? Even tho the mass email is part of the Plenty Of Fish Event Notification and I have done nothing wrong or broken any rules? Therefore, I won't be doing the event notice anymore on Friday's or posting the Baja Friday's given the Moderators have threatened to remove me from POF permanently if they get another complaint. Meaning I don't get to have my side of the story heard. Unfortunately, as always, it takes one bad apple to spoil fun for other folks and sadly they are allowed to get away with it. Which is why most Plenty of Fish events have stopped over the past couple of years. I tried to bring some fun back to the site and the group, obviously that isn't possible.
Sorry Folks, I've posted my LAST Baja Friday and won't be doing anymore. I don't have time for drama. Once again, those who prefer to spoil the fun for others, have won because they are allowed to get away with it here.

Back by popular demand!!! Baja Friday's!!!

The past couple Friday’s have been our first and we’ve had a good turn out and folks seem to enjoy themselves. This Friday it will be 25 and sunny - beeeautiful weather for an outdoor patio and chillin' with peeps.

Note: we all had issues with last Friday's get together where Baja took it upon themselves to charge each of us an extra 10% per drink for gratuity stating it's because we're a large group. I spoke with the Manager of Baja today and he assured me those instructions did NOT come from him and that it will not happen again. We are free to tip as we choose which is how it should be.

What is Baja Friday's you ask? Well let me tell you. Its drinks every Friday, weather permitting, after work starting from 4:30 pm at an outdoor patio at Baja at The Forks. Folks can come and go, you can bring friends, you come alone, do whatever floats your boat. People arrive after work so times can vary; sometimes people are still arriving at 7 or 8pm.

It's been a summer tradition for the past couple of years and it’s been fun.

It’s not a meat market or speed dating…lol. It's just a relaxed and casual atmosphere. Like any other outdoor patio where you would sit and have a drink. You come, meet people, or sit and observe, pay for your own drinks and possibly make some new friends. Whether or not you have a good time is entirely up to you! I'm not the hostess. I don't bring munchies. I don't care who pulled your ponytail or stole your chocolate pudding. It's an event and everyone is welcome. So far the overall age range seems to be from about 30 and up. Not to say anyone is excluded, just letting folks know.

The event is held every Friday, unless it’s raining. There may not always be an event notification email sent every week. I do have a life! lol

When: Friday, July 16th
Where: Baja Beach Club Outdoor Patio (lower level of Beachcomers outdoor patio)
Time: Anytime after 4:30 pm (it often goes until 8 or 9 pm or later)

Baja is easy to find. Go to the centre dome at The Forks and walk straight ahead. Baja is down the steps towards the river on the right, outside the Beachcomber Restaurant. If it rains, it’s cancelled. You’re NOT notified. Finn’s is not going to be posted as a rain option. It’s too expensive and the service is crap.

This notification is sent to everyone within 10k of The Forks. It's NOT a "personal invitation" from me! I'm just the messenger of the event. You can delete your email notification, sign up, don't sign up and just show up. The majority of folks don't sign up, they just show up and that's fine too. You can bring friends, single or not or you can come alone. We even have couples who attend who actually met and fell in luv on POF. Some have even gotten hitched, some are just shackin' up but whatever works is all good!

If you don't want to receive future event notifications, you need to turn off your event notification option on your profile.

I was listening to this on HOT 103 the other morning with folks calling in about watching temper tantrums and trying not to break out laughing.

One guy beat the crap outta his lawnmower with the cannoe paddle when the lawnmower wouldn't start and another guy flung the bathroom scale out in the snow when he stubbed his toe on it.

It reminded me fondly of dear old pops, who is gone now but being Irish, I come by my temper thru no fault of my own, it's inherited.

I remember working on putting up walls in our house with pops and he would have a hissy fit about something and hammer a hole in the new drywall wehad just put up! I swear we kept going 'round and 'round that dam room for a year just re-drywalling!

Another time I was in the back driveway working on a car with pops. He was laying under neath and asked me to pass him a tool. I did thru the top of the car over the motor. But it slipped out of my hand because it was greasy. I didn't hear it hit concrete so knew dam well it hit flesh - his. Man I was outta there and halfway down the backlane running for my life before he could get out from under the car.....thank goodness I could run faster scared than he could mad!

Needless to say I didn't come home until supper time so he had time to cool off.

Another time I was driving pops car that he had just rebuilt and some guy hit me head on. The accident wasn't my fault but the car was badly damaged, but driveable. So I drove home, got my mother and took her with me to drive to pops shop. He had his own business and was working late that nite. I sent mom inside and sat in the car with the doors locked cause I knew any second he would come flying out like some possessed psychotic demon before he calmed down to hear the whole story. Sure enuff there he was curly hair standing on end, eyes blazing, running around the car banging on the windows swearing at me to open the doors. I just kept shaking my head no. He took a seat on the cement parking barrier, had a smoke and then I opened the car door when he was done and his eyes stopped proruding from their sockets.

Safe to say my kids over the years have learned mama has the same temper grampa had and have learned to run, duck and dive when mom takes on a new project...lol

Anyone got temper tantrum stories to share? They're always good for a giggle.

Well last nite's Baja was fun - good turn out - met some new folks and even had to bring in a few sitting on the sidelines. It was a good evening, great to meet new folks so come on down people, it's fun! And in response to one young man's question, yep it does seem the event attracts folks 30 and up not to say youngin's aren't welcome, bring your friends! for some reason I can't post a "new comment" in the thread so I've had to stick my after the event comments in here...sheesh

Well it seems another of our old time POF'ers is getting hitched and he met his lady rite here on POF as well.

The Devil Man himself will be coming to an upcoming Baja with tickets for their Social in August.

And knowing the Devil Man, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a "barn burner" as he says...lol

We'll have to be sure to get us all together to attend!

For any folks who are uncertain about coming out, based on the emails I've gotten. Worried about "clicks" or just plain shy.

Just show up, mix, mingle, make friends. Don't be shy. I pee'd 3 times in a half hour the first time I went! You'll be fine. Trust me. Everyone is welcome!

It's your party and it's what you make it.

And it sure as heck beats sitting at home alone with your dirty socks saying I wish I would have gone!

Yea I'm just winging it. Yesterday they said tomorrow was going to be 22 degrees. This morning they said tomorrow is going to be 28 degrees. Go figure. Who can count on the weathermen or the weather.......hahaha

If it rains, I did post in the notice that it would be cancelled and we would just have it the next sunny Friday.

I may be super awesome but even I can't change the weather.......lol

I'll be checking the weather forecast for Friday and if it looks like it's gonna be a nice one, I'll probably do the posting Monday or Tuesday.

Yay!!! The sunshine is here .... and so it Baja.

P.S. Apparently we're only allowed to host/post two events per month? So someone else will have to take the alternate Friday's. But I'll probably put it in this week's event thread that, weather permitting, it will be an ongoing Friday event all summer long.

BRINGING BACK BAJA FRIDAY'S!!! Coming To An Event Thread Near You Soon . . .

Just a heads up to folks that some of us POF’ers who’ve been around the POF block a few times will be bringing back the Baja Friday’s.

What’s that you say? Well let me tell you! Baja is an outside patio at The Forks where we meet every Friday after work, weather permitting. We get together for drinks and to mix and mingle. It’s casual, always fun and usually starts around 4:00 or 5:00 and ends whenever.

There will be an Event Thread posted in the POF Forums under Manitoba Forums Singles Events (in red). It’s also sent out by mass email to anyone within a 10 km radius of the event. The event is posted, you get an email, you delete the email or you sign up, you show up and the rest is up to you.

It’s no diff than going somewhere after work for a drink. You come, you hang out, you buy your own drinks, you mix and you mingle. Or you sit on the sidelines and be one of those creepy people who observes from a distance. You’re responsible for whether or not you have a good time. If you don’t want to receive the event notification you can turn off your event notification option through your POF profile site.

It will likely be me posting the event. So PLEASE remember, it’s NOT A PERSONAL INVITATION BY ME. So don’t send me hate mails or emails to sleep with you. It’s an “event notification” which just needs to have a POF member’s name tagged to it for it to be sent out.

The event thread also comes with a pre-clause by POF stating bring 3 friends. You don’t have to bring 3 friends. You can bring friends, single or not, or you can come alone. Your choice. We even have couples who come who met on POF.

Baja is easy to find. Info will be in the event thread. Go to the centre dome at the Forks and walk straight ahead. Baja is down the steps towards the river on the right, outside the Beachcomber Restaurant. If it rains, it’s cancelled. You’re NOT notified. Finn’s is not going to be posted as a rain option. It’s too expensive and the service is crap.

As I said if I post the event and send the mass email, I’m NOT the “hostess”. I’m just the messenger. That’s all. I’m not bringing munchies or holding your hand. I don’t care who pulled your pony tail or stole your chocolate pudding. I’m just the venue messenger who created the thread for a gathering.

Oh and one last note because this question comes up every year. If you would prefer another event site to “change it up” or another day for an event, you are more than welcome to plan your own and post your own. Baja Friday’s are just that. Going to Baja for drinks on a Friday. Gives us all a chance to get outside and enjoy the little bit of summer we have.

Made me giggle because I remember way back owning a Chevy Blazer and always got the constant "could you just do me this teenie favour" ......... times a thousand requests. I'm more than happy now with my little 2 door sexy black Cavalier - no great expectations beyond the fact that it is THE best car! (Well okay - next to the '68 Mustang Convertible I used to own ...sigh).

Wish I could make it but so busy lately with my upcoming move and getting the new place ready, PP is pooped!!! Still so much to do until moving day ....... but sooooo excited about the move ..... With the size of the yard - next year's Potluck is gonna kick ass!!!!!

Aw yes this makes me want you .......... those men who hit mid life crisis and get the fancy convertible. I think it's awesome - do whatever makes you feel good about you.

But it's those who pull up beside you giving you that "hey baby how you doin' look" and are salivating over the 20 year olds in their little summer frocks thinking they even have a chance .....lol ..... they keep driving along and you can't help but get hit in the eye with that huge bald spot on the back of their head when the sun hits it almost blinding you!

It's all yummy to have the toys but remember, it still is what it is and you're still old ..............

Just realized this morning - you know when you see those little old couples driving those big-ass vehicles and the woman is driving while hubby sits in the front passenger seat smiling. We assume it's because he can no longer see or hear properly so his wife has stepped up to the plate and taken over the driving.

I don't think he's NOT driving any longer because he can't see or hear - it's becuse he's now got free reign to oggle all the pretty women while drooling on the window .............. eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww..................

Luv it when I see folks at the bus stop with their "laminated work name tag" already leashed around their neck (in case you forget who you are and where you work ???) .... or the folks standing at the bus in their complete Sobey's/Safeway/Wal-Mart attire (the keener who can't put that smock on when they get to work because they want to LEAP into action the minute they get in that door!!!) ....

and always luv the dude walking around a mall, Safeway or wherever with his phone headset stuck in his ear 24/7 - just in case he gets that "urgent" call ..... trust me dude - you're not THAT important and you look ridiculous...lol

Here's a good one. Whipped home at lunch to pee the pup. Entered the gates of hell construction at Henderson and Hespler.
Saw this very old man in a bright wind breaker holding a bus stop sign out front of the construction area. Thot must be that new senior employment program they have. But man the poor guy must have been at least 135 years old!!! Now don't get me wrong, the guy looked happy as a pig in shit, big smile on his face as he stood holding that sign. Thot surely they must have an age restriction even on the seniors employment projects. And wondered why he had to stand and "hold" the sign when it was temporarily set up in one of those sand bags?

Then the blonde lite came on .............. ohhhhhhhhh ........ he must be WAITING FOR THE BUS ....... and holding the sign, not really "holding" the sign ....... hahaha

Well slap my ass and call me silly!!!!!! Boy am I confused ???

I actually thot the plan for this Friday was that BOTH would be held. That Baja would be right after work early evening and then the Corydon Pub Crawl was after that, like replacing the usual Norwood event after Baja. How unfortuante it couldn't have worked out that way. Or that there still couldn't have been two options for folks to choose from Baja and/or Corydon Crawl.

Well regardless POF"ers do have a way of always making the best of any situation and turning it into fun ........

I'm not able to attend and did sign up for Corydon just to help with the body count so they could do the mass email.

Hope you all have a great time where ever you are tomorrow nite ......

Driving to work this morning; passed a lady drinking coffee, reading a magazine and driving a van down Henderson! Also passed another lady who was wearing a home made rain hat but quite fashionable - it was a safeway plastic bag pulled over her head then rolled all around the edges to make like a rim of a hat and then she had it fastened off to the side with a lovely bow made out of the plastic bag!

My favorite is still always the bus stop people ....... and how they all stand facing the direction of where the bus will be coming from like soldiers lined up. Makes me giggle. You don't have to "watch" for the bus" - he won't miss you, he can see you, and he will stop. Relax people - enjoy the trees, people watch or read a magazine while you're waiting!!!

How's your trip to work in the mornings? Or during any other excursion you make daily. Anything interesting?

^^^ hahahaha ...... years ago when my brother owned a couple of gas stations, I used to do his books to help him out. I'd say pretty much every second day someone would drive off taking the gas hose with them ........ and it wasn't even a self serve station .....!!! Can you say hire gas jockeys who know where the hose goes after they're re done ...........

I used to have a car with those dam locking gas doors. Thing either froze open or closed every winter, all the time, drove me nuts. One day frozen again, trying to get the dam thing open, figured I could "heat it up" to release the lock. Took my handy bic lighter to the door latch and just as I was about to flick my bic realized ......... probably not a good idea given it was the door to the gas tank ..... !!! dumbass ....... !!!

Note to self - should apply as gas jockey at above noted gas station ...........
