How to lose the weight
Posted:

It's not as simple as calories consumed vs calories expended. Thats an overly simplistic view. There's insuline resistance and degree of release, types of calories expended (you can lose lean muscle mass if you just consume less calories then you lose in a day, etc...).

Oh, But i thought true love knows no bounds? If women read your forum posts, they shouldn't get offended because you werent talking to them directly; otr at least thry could try and argue the point; but i find there's often not one. Other then baseless :omg you're so mean why would you say that" arguments.
No one should be afraid to speak their mind on a question raised by a person. if you're going to judge a person based on their answer to someone else, you need to re-think your approach.

I don't think it has anything to do with the forum per se, other then the grammar aspect; because practice and mockery do make perfect.
"Unable to carry on any type of conversation" is a very unfair statement to make because most woment who message men leave 1 word/line messages like a smilely face or "hi". What is a man supposed to do with that? Call a psychic and waste money long with time to figure out what your message says?
If you want to talk to someone, you need to give them something to go on. Comment about somthing on their profile, their hobbies, what attracted you to message them, etc... This is a very simple concept .
As an example, I could ask you about unorthadox cartoons (Redwall, good show but 1 season long) RPG's (since your profile lists mostly role playign games) or philosphical questions like do you wish you were someone else (you have multiple role playing elements on your page) if i were to message you.
Show that you were interested in them in a manner that THEY can understand and you'd be surprised at the conversations you can have.

Why do men stare at womens boobs & think we don't notice ???
Posted:
8/16/2008 9:34:11 AM
I would stare at your boobs to your face, and if you tried to "call me on it" i would tell you that since you decided to show them off to everyone, you have no right to complain. It's kinda like buying a NSX and hating it for people telling you it looks awesome.
If you don't want guys staring at you, don't advertise. Or you could take it as a compliment like most women since people being attracted to you isn't negative; unless you like playing that game, in which case you're wasting everyone's time.

Crave attention much? Seems so since you're focusing more on what other people think of your relationship vs the relationship itself.
Have you refuted his claims? No? then gee i wonder what the answer could be. It can't be a misconception if you never tell him otherwise or act like it
And its cute you try to act older then you are. truly.

How to lose the weight
Posted:
8/16/2008 7:55:47 AM
Cardio isn't ideal for long term fat loss. the problem is your body eventually becomes efficient at doing cardiovascular exercises, especially if you repeat them frequently. Weight training is far more effetive at long term fat loss vs cardio, whis is temporary bursts of energy that subside as your heart rate goes back to rest.
Some cardio works the muscle groups, but the Micro-fiber tears that happens in muscle development is far superior to 1/2 an hour on a treadmill, and has a greater impact on your BMR as well. I warm up with 10 minutes of cardio, then it's weights all the way.

If you're not good at push ups, do them. There are a lot of exercises that "mimic" the moments, but the best way to get good at them is to just do them. If you're getting bored then you're not working yourself hard enough or doing them properly.
You can also change your leg positions (cross the back legs, lift 1 leg up) to change the amount of pressure on your mid-section. Do pushups to get good at pushups.

I've trained in Muay Thai at one of the best schools in NA (Mike Mikes in calgary) and while it's an awesome cardio and muscle group exercise, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Fight training is a world apart from muscle development in terms of schools of thought. Having said that, I see the better fighters doing both the Kicking and ring practice, and then going into the gym section to isolation exercises to improve strength.
Isolation exercises are not useless, and as stated previously; it's ignorant to discount a process or training path just its not valid for your goals. Fitness is kinda like home decorating, almost limitless materials avaliable to you, but you're the one that can tell what "fits" for you.

What Caused The End Of The Last Ice Age?
Posted:
8/12/2008 12:24:37 AM
Actually if you read it, it states that large erruptions (one's we most likely haven't seen in our history" can cause a similar effect that We do now. However, its like the earth releasing 1 big erruption vs us releasing constant erruptions in similar amounts. I'm not sure there is a different type of carbon, but the density of such.
The end of the last ice age then should have been just caused by the planet's ecosystem being able to heal itself because it could deal with the envisions presented and clean them out over 10k years because it didn't have to deal with another on that scale.

Dumb and Dumber

You get out of the site what you put into it. You talk to the people you seem interested in, and try to connect the best you can. I'd ask how anyone would think they could connect with another person on the medium that is the least personable of all of them (we all sound the same when we read in our own heads) but then again i think we all know the answer to that question.
We don't like the bar/club screen cause (some of us anyway) aren't looking for a screw. We've collaberated in a place with the most amount of people with diverse backgrounds and locations and can look over each other and see what we think of them; which some people can do at 1st glance, but this is easier for most people.
I'm here to talk to some people, meet some people and date some people. And i'm only going to do that if i put myself out there, and this is one way of doing it. :P

Taking Oaths when are they correctly made?
Posted:
8/12/2008 12:11:05 AM
I think oaths and promises are the same, and the only one that really make them happen or dont happen, is you. You can make an oath to yourself or god, or to your best friend or a rock, but if you don't care about disappointing the people involved in the oath/promise, then it doesn't really mean anything in either form. A promise seems more personalble, vs an oath which makes me think of some form of legal boundary.
I prefer to make the oaths and promises to myself, because thats who i believe I'm responsible for, and thats who i think controls my actions making me do or not do my promises.

Agreed, Creatine is something your body naturally produces to assist in muscle regrowth (if i remember correctly). Some friend of mine told me it builds "muscle as water" but i quickly pointed out that most of the body is water, and having an extra few percentage points for recovery and muscle building can make a difference in the long run.
I used it for 9 months and never showed any issue with it other then my muscle development.

Limit nuclear atomic applications for fear of nuclear weapons
Posted:
8/11/2008 11:06:13 PM
If you mean nuclear power as in energy for people then no one, because it's up to the country to handle it's energy needs. If you mean Nuclear weapons I'd like to say the UN, but the problem is is that nuclear weapons represent the "wildcard" to any country that has them. And no country will sanction it's wildcard to a 3rd party organisation because the organization will most likely not act in the interest of the country at the time.
The weapons are like insurance, they're in case you ever get attacked. I would hope there would be a better mindset, but right now the human aspect seems to be "i only care about my protection and my safety" which can be traced into any country's policy. This is also the logic behind stating that 1 more car on the road doesn't make a difference in global warming. "A single drop of rain does not blame itself for the flood".
I think that nuclear power is viable and a "clean" form of energy based on current needs and production methods. Wind farms and solar have a lot more development before they can be made long term, The offshore snakes would need a lot of area for a small amount of power. Alternate forms of energy are in an infancy stage, but that doesn't mean they aren't viable. Look at people buying 30K solar panels for their homes and paying $5 for their energy bill vs 390. It's starting to come to a point that we can make our own energy for the most part, but its still a ways off. Apologies for off topic paragraph.

What Caused The End Of The Last Ice Age?
Posted:

Water vapor is a large cause of the Greenhouse gasses. And Volcano's are hypothesized to have created the excess carbon emmisions to trigger the last ice age. If you've never seen one of those go off... lets just say they're scary.
As for the cause of the end, I would suspect that because science can graph the last few ice ages and carbon emmisions by studying artic ice samples, it ended naturally. The problem is the mass amount the human element is pumping into our planet along with the natural increases.

Why is porn bad for children?
Posted:
8/11/2008 10:46:13 PM
You're really reaching if you want to try to compare NABLA with Adult porn. "Many" of the women in modern porn are there because they want/choose to be. Some porn stars have PHD's and doctorates, but they make even more money for less work. Sounds like they're smarter then a lot of people.
How is porn Degrating a woman? She chooses to be on film with another man and let other people watch to masterbate. Where's the degrating part? Some fetishes may do some disgusting stuff, but most of those come through legal channels, where the women are participating. Show me in NAMBLA's charter where they have kids who are willing, then show me a law book to say what they do is Legal. There's a very big difference between Porn and NAMBLA.
What about men in porn? Aren't they being degrated because they want the product so bad? They're naked too. Definitely sounds a little biased to me.
If my daughter wanted to be in porn, it would be her choice, not mine. Same as if my son was gay (don't have kids at all just for full exposure). It should be "ok" because it's the kids choice what to do with their lives. But thats after they reach the age of adulthood. Until them it would be my job as a parent to raise them and prepare them for life doing what they'd want to do.
Sounds to me like you don't "get it", which is a personal statement at best, cause most people can't get your "logic"

Fat does gravitate toward certain parts of the body......:(

Spot fat reduction is a myth; you lose fat in places depending on your genetics and workout level. You can try to fill the flab with muscle but there is more then likely going to be some "Droop" left. The skin should slowly heal or retract over time. However in extreme cases, skin reduction surgery is an option.
I'd go against the surgery if i could, but since when im said and done ill have lost 250lbs, i'll need to get it for medical reasons. If it's just a bit of droop, keep working out and it should heal over time.

I'd probably do lower weight/higher rep training on the weaker side just so that you don't "Stop" your set when the left side is done. But don't scale it too far back, try 5 pounds lighter and try to do more reps on the weaker side until it catches up.
Both of my sides are about equal (my left side does an average of 3 reps left under my right side, but i find that close enough), and unless you need both arms to be balanced, i wouldn't worry about it too much. I'd disagree with the statement isolation exercises don't do anything except for bodybuilders, but there's always more then 1 way to work a muscle group and it's supporting groups. Try different exercises (TONNES on the net) and see which ones work better for you.

How to lose the weight
Posted:
8/11/2008 2:26:06 AM
OP, Losing inches but maintaining your wieght is a good sign. It means you're putting on muscle which is metabolically active and losing your fat storage. A pound of muscle is indeed the same weight as a pound of fat, but i believe dave was referring to the fact that due to muscle fibers being more dense, a portion of muscle would weight more then the same portion of fat.
This is again, a classic misconception about the idea of being fit. You're not trying to lose weight, you're trying to lose fat. There's a difference between the 2. As long as you're losing fat, you're doing well, and keep on it.

Why is porn bad for children?
Posted:
8/11/2008 12:27:10 AM
One major mis-conception i see is that Men are the only ones who are attracted/look at porn/sex. It's a 2 way street. Also, Depending on your personal preference of fetishes, "porn is bad" is on a person to person basis.
I 1st started looking into the adult stuff when i was 13-14, but thats MY biological phase, everyone's kids will be different. And i saw the generic stuff and branched out from there, which i think is a good way to go.
"treating someone like a piece of meat" can happen depending on what your preferences. But again, this is a 2 way street. Not to mention the fundamental point of having sex is to procreate, and is a function of our species. "Love making" is something that has come out of that but most people do it for an endorphin high.
This is (like most internet arguments) going to come down to the decision of the parent if showing their kids porn is a bad thing. But i know from personal experience that the KID, not the parent, will decide when he is ready to see it; either by mental maturity or physical development. I'll have the birds and the bees talk with my kid, but I'll let him watch porn on his own.

Information.
Read about the topic and a variety of sources on it. Forums are awesome for getting opinions and ideas from people but when it comes to health and fitness the recommendations may be valid for the poster, but not for you. (Eg: people could tell you to do lots of cardio, but if you want to build muscle then this could work against you. )
Read about what people similar to your goals have done and read about how/why they did it.

The PROTEIN Myth
Posted:
6/8/2008 11:18:13 AM
Here's what i know on the subject.
Your body requires Amino acids which it breaks down easily from proteins. Unlike fat, your body can't store amino acids in any active way, so when you consume lean proteins they stay in your system roughly every 3 hours. After that period if you do not consume more then your body goes after your existing muscle mass and breaks that down for the acids.
This is why a lot of fitness experts say to eat 6 times a day in smaller portions. Doing so will prevent your body from going after your muscle mass which helps keep your metabolic rate up.
The problem with this thread seems to be the Myth comes with certain criterias, and the second you say "well its true if the following conditions are applied" then that means the myth will be true for some people and not for others. Bodybuilders will undoubtably require more protein vs "the average person" because they're doing more then what the average person is.
Finally, Bruce lee was only reveared because how low his body fat percentage was (to the point he died due to it, btw), which is something pretty much anyone who is trying to be fit can relate to, wether they know it or not. Using him as an example for a nation of people not only a stupid argument but one that is pretty unrelated to the thread.

OP:
Just as an FYI, spot reduction is a myth that has been debunked by every major US government institution. there's a good explanation here: http://www.acefitness.org/fitnessqanda/fitnessqanda_display.aspx?itemid=341
As others have said, Do lots of cardio, don't skip any meals, and if you adhere to your program, you're allowed and encouraged to have 1 "cheat" meal on whatever program you're chosing. This is so you don't get cravings for items you cut back/out on and then binge on later.
I've lost over 200lbs since i started in 2005 and it's not easy, especially if you only want to lose "a little bit" . Good luck

Does your gym suck?
Posted:
6/8/2008 10:53:37 AM
I find that the "better" gyms are ones run by the local government or the local "y". Commercial establishments cater to what's most popular to their current market, and shun the more "hardcore crowd" because they have practices that aren't really good for their business.
However, the Local government or the Y have more of the Public interest in mind, and thus have equpment/rules that are more open vs the commercial establishments. I go to my local community centre and you can do the chalk, chains, grips, etc... They only ask you clean up the chalk, which i can understand. Also these places have lower cost memberships on average, always good to shop around and take tours.
Some people dont like/use it and some could be sensitive to it. It may be free chalk for the next guy but it's better to clean up after yourself, and if the next guy wants chalk he can use his.

FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM

If you want to split hairs here then those aren't foods, they're additives or suppliments that have an artifical illusion with a combination of negative and subjectively positive effects.
I'm going to wash my hands here of this since I've stated that i've disagreed with your view of the supplimental effects. If you take a food that increases your metabolism but makes your heart more likely to fail, then you've answered the question but in a very bad way.

FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM
Posted:

1. Biology, Physiology. the sum of the physical and chemical processes in an organism by which its material substance is produced, maintained, and destroyed, and by which energy is made available. Compare anabolism, catabolism.
2. any basic process of organic functioning or operating: changes in the country's economic metabolism.
Again, the only thing those 2 drugs do is speed up your heart unnaturally. They do not increase the body's natural metabolism, and has a negative effect as a whole. The best way recommended by most fitness experts is increasing your body's lean muscle mass.

My father died 4 years ago from medical complications of being overweight at a young age. After seeing what he went through I decided i wasn't going to go out that way and make him proud.
Also, i got tired of the insults of people being flung at me and not being able to do anything about it, so i made my commitment for that purpose as well.
It's good to know what inspires you so you can keep reminding yourself of why you do it at those times you fee like giving up.

How do you stay motivated?
Posted:

Results do fuel Motivation. When i started doing Hapkido 9 months ago i would miss an avg of one class a week (only 3 a week). The master would always call me and id make an excuse as to why id didn't show.
Then i started forcing myself to go even when i didn't feel like it, and it's slowly become my routine. Last night everyone started coming up to me and making a point to tell me how much weight ive lost and how much better i looked then when i 1st (not sure what brought it on, but it was nice).
I also think external input is important. You're not always the best judge of how results are turning out cause you just have the scale and the mirror, and since you see yourself every day you may not visibly see the changes as much as others will.
One final advice i can say is read on the subject. One of the best books i've found so far is called "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" By Tom Venuto. While he does have his "plan", the book mainly contains good information on a whole about the whole subject, and dives in deep on a few subjects including psychological motivation, Protein and Ammino acid infomation, etc..
Knowledge is power, this includes power for you :)

Agreed, You can't say you're not ok with a BNO but then complain that men give you "permission" to do a GNO with your best friend. Think about it from the other perspective and you'll see that we see it as a night out with the guys to have drinks, go to a movie or a go-kart track or whatever. Guys don't go out solely to a strip club and think about other women.

Those don't increase your metabolism. They just speed up your heart rate so it burns more calories and pumps more blood. While this may "seem" like increased metabolism it's actually very hard and very bad for your heart.
Lean Muscle is the safest and best way to do it.

Early morning cardio: When and what to eat for breakfast?
Posted:

I try to always eat after my workouts, not before. or if it has to be before wait at least an hour if not more before trying.
During my Cardio or Weights i try to keep hydrated with just water and then have a lean protein and a complex fibreous carb. Breakfast is almost alyways 2 egg whites and 12 grain toast with some backbacon if i have the time. Oatmeal with Honey is good as well. I always add 1tbsp of flax seed oil to all my meals so I'm getting the essential fats.
You should figure out what your daily calorie expendature is before you can say 'well i need to eat more carbs at this time". To lose fat you need a calorie deficit, to build muscle you need a calorie surplus for a day. Depending on how often you eat this means there is a certain number of calories you should consume per meals to achieve what results you want.

FOODS THAT SPEED UP METABOLISM
Posted:
4/20/2008 11:08:22 PM
This is kind of a misleading question cause there really isn't a "food" per se that will just increase your metabolism for any sustainable period of time. One of the main factors that effects metabolism is the amount of "lean muscle" you have on your body. There is a calculation as to how much 1lb of lean muscle will burn at rest (forget it atm).
Protein is very thermic, but Eating fibreous Carbohydrates actually cause your body to burn more calories to consume those food. This doesn't really have a direct effect on your metabolism per se, but it does lower the calories your body uses in a day.
Lean muscle is probably the simplest way to increase your metabolism, so I'd say try working out a couple of times a week for a few months and see how you do. There are may great books on the subject of fitness (i try to read more then one in case there are "controvertial ideas).

how to bring up meeting

Agree with (most of) above. If he's ready to meet you he should have no objections. If he needs a little more time then that can be an outcome as well. Only way to know what's going to happen is to try it.

extended warranty?
Posted:

Always read the fine print. As an Ex-Employee of these types of stores, the stores try to play off the extended warranty as a godsend that will cover everything for the extra $50, but the reality is that it's jsut an extension of the existing manufacturer's warranty.
9/10 times you'll walk in and all the extended warranty gives you is the store will ship your IPOD to apple or your laptop to toshiba. The reason salesmen push teh extended warranty is cause they get %50 of that. kinda like how stock swindlers get paid to create fake markets, they get paid to provide false sense of security.

Thought provoking hypothetical question

Unless she's a really cruel person, she basically signifies that "you" are the only one she wants to share that experience with. Even if you're not "in love with her to that level (i didnt know there were levels to love, but ok)", its not like you're being forced to do it for someone you don't care about.

Do men think that women don't have a sex drive?
Posted:

A womans sex drive can be arguably greater then amans. this can be something dictated by hormones and genetics, or "urges".
I don't think most men are oblivious to it, but its not what people really think about. The "Stereotype" is men are sex craved animals, but woman have urges to breed the same as a man. they have similar hormones released upon orgasm, etc.
The sevarity of the sex drive can vary from person to person, but i think everyone knows that they want to ****. its just a question of when it is appropriate to make the effort; but thats a whole nother philosophical debate.

Weight loss.

210 pounds gone for me. I kind of admire a girl who has lost a significant amount of weight, just cause it show commitment and she has her goals. "Going back" can be a worry gfor a guy and a girl, and you just need to hold onto what's been working for you until you reach your goal, then its a matter of keeping stable, instead of losing.

Optimal Protein Intake

The body's ability to absorb protein vary's from person to person, it can also adjust to larger amounts of protein over time.
Only good resources i could find were from univerity clinical trials (Phoenix, ucla) and even then they're kind of all over the board. The only way to know is to guess and check, find out if it works for you. if it doesn't work, then change.

Not sure what you mean by "upping those protein calories to match", but there are several ways to calculate how much lean muscle your body has. The most mainstream (and affordable) is the skin fold test, but (like anything where measurement is concerned) you have to do it properly.
A less affordable is The hydrostatic test, in which you are weighed underwater (since fat is buoyant) and the mathematical difference is your "lean" body mass (minus a couple pounds for internal organs).
the 7 calories a day per pound of lean muscle is only at idle, so the more active you are, the more calories your body burns (otherwise exercise wouldn't be necessary for weight loss).

men for friendship.....is it possible to meet them online?

The question of sex between a guy and a girl is always apparent, even in subtle ways. I'd like to think i can be friends with a girl, have fun or conversations with them, and not get upset cause i haven't "made it to a base" yet.

Any Way To Bulk Up My Wrists And Hands?
Posted:

Another good exercise is to use a simple dumbell of varying weight (5lbs-25lbs) and kneel down accross from a padded bench. place your arm on top of the bench with your wrist hanging down on the other side with the weight, and use your wrist to "curl" the dumbbell. Fairly effective your your wrist and arm tendons.
