The learning curve of dating...
Posted:
6/12/2009 2:40:04 PM
I started dating later in my life (26) than my friends. Now at 30, I have had a few dates to compare from and I can see a pattern. I am slowly (sometimes painfully) getting better at the process of asking people out and rolling with the date. Initially when I first started, I was so nervous, and excited I eventually caused a meltdown in the date. Nothing too horrible, but bad enough that I learned from the mistakes and did something differently the next time.
Since dating is very complex, my past experiences have either helped or hindered my next relationship. Now I am still making mistakes but they are far less the emergency of my initial dating adventures. I can't help but think what my first few dates would have been like if I had the experience of dating at a much younger age. But even age is a factor in how we date... but I digress.
I guess my question to everyone is... Do you agree that a person can get really good at dating, to the point of mastering the art of relationships? Or is it all random chance, mixed with desire and the hundred other factors that make up our chances of success with people we find attractive?
Feel free to let me know.

Cheesecake
Posted:

I am a 1hr cheesecake baker. Yet recently I read that slow cooking over low heat (190F) is the way to go to avoid cracking and bubbles that expand and contract too fast. The procedure took 6 hrs with an additional hour in the oven to cool. It was quite the process, but the cake cooked great. My first attempt was a little dry, but overall I had no cracking.
Anyone else cook cheesecakes slow? How much time do you take?

Skiing enthusiasts, could use some advice
Posted:
1/19/2009 5:07:29 AM
K2 is a good brand. Not sure of the model but the brand is excellent. The difference between 160 and 153 is negligible. You have to take into account the curvature of the ski now a days. The greater the curve = the sharper the turn.
Since you rent boots, you know what 2nd hand is all about. I wouldn't worry about that. New boots take time to wear in, so keep that in mind if you buy new. Go with top buckles and try to stay away from rear entry. The more buckle, the better they adjust throughout the day.
Also the bindings may need to be re drilled if the boots length is not compatible. Drilling should be kept at a minimum or you will be skiing on swiss cheese skis.
Buy at the end of the season, you will get the best deals, boots are really the most important part in my books, so make sure you get that right.
Hope this helped.

Strange Question...
Posted:
1/10/2009 5:02:25 PM
Not strange at all.
If you are in a room full of men and women. Most men know instinctively when an attractive woman is in the room. We all make observations on availability and even give a rating of whether we would have a chance or even if it was appropriate to continue. Then we look at the men, and see where they are at. Eventually their is a pecking order or we just draw straws... (fast games of paper, rock, scissors are acceptable as well).
Some of that may be over the top, but we do know when someone attractive walks in and who our competition is in the room. It's nature in its raw form.
Great Question.

Susie,
Tell him you need to talk. Tell him your not feeling it and see what he says. The longer you put it off, the worse it will get.

I agree with Chef Biggs on this one. You need to start flirting hard around your current boyfriend. Show him how "fun" it is to have someone he cares about teasing other men. He'll either come around, or he himself is cheating hard core and it will come out in the wash.

What if you were warned?
Posted:

This is a great question. Being warned of past faults will be seen as meddling. Unless they ask you your opinion, my advice is don't give it. They may thank you later, but they will go through the heartache either way. I have met very few people that don't decide on their own before walking away.
The chance that people change is slim, but it is still possible.

Wow.
These responses are great. Mostly they scream of my tactics being oh so wrong. I appreciate the sentiment, and the advice. I have yet to have someone come after me for paying attention to their girlfriend or wife. I will keep on my toes next time for sure.
What I do see is a lot of emotional responses. I didn't expect that. I should be clear that after the game, I go home alone, and she goes home with Mr. Jealous. When a group of 8 or 10 or whatever is at the table, and their is a "team playing" I have to do everything to get the two to split up. By tag teaming the table, they offer each other the ability to play two hands as one. All I am interested in is winning the bounty on the table.
Thanks for all the advice. This was and is great to hear from you all.

krys,
I forgot to mention that the girlfriends are players as well. Whats up with your textual beat down? If I didn't know better I would think that you were taking this forum question a little too personal.
Getting my butt kicked is always possible when you win off another player that can not believe you won and can't walk away. Cheating is not what I am suggesting. Cheating would imply that I am manipulating the cards when in fact I am not. Instead I am reading players while they play their cards.
Again thanks for the vote. Your passion about this really has me curious. Don't loose that.

Krys,
Thanks for the reply. I have to assume you haven't played for money. Your advice isn't helping me, I don't know if you understand competitive card games.
Thanks anyways. To be clear, I am not distracted by the woman on his arm. Rather I am using the woman to get information on the guy she is with. I do this because it gets me closer to what he has in his hands. True it is fun, but that is secondary to the real goal.

Thank you for all your advice.
I did realize that maybe they were using their woman as distractions. However when the jealousy pears through it is quite clear that their intent if any was not what they were prepared to sacrifice.
I totally get the whole know that I know that they know that I know circle of reason, and thanks to all that posted that type of response.
I guess I see it as fair game when money is involved. Luck and skill... are only part of the equation. Poker is a social ballet of many dangerous emotions. It is a skill to be able to read your opponents while trying to misguide them long enough to win. Every hand is different and every advantage is important.
Again thanks to all the replied. I will continue reading them as they come.

Okay ladies,
I play a bit of Texas hold em. When I play I search out my players tells, their weaknesses, their strategies, and they do the same to me.
Some times I find that some men are easily jealous when it comes to the women they brought and it is a clear weakness. Should I exploit that weakness and flirt with their women, knowing full well I am playing a game trying to win?
Harmless flirting, but effective none the less.
Your thoughts are welcome.

I got to say boo on the bald shot; it was below the belt. I commend him on his ability to size up the situation so fast. Perhaps he was too fast. I find that once the connection is lost, it is really hard to establish it again. If he thought it wasn't going to work because of him, or perhaps even you, I don't blame him.
It was a little rude to do what he did, but overall where do you think the evening would have gone if you both were at the table wondering why you were both filling your bellies for a different reason than you started out on? I mean I can see the date going very badly at the point.

Up here in Canada, the weather is just starting to get warm enough for the tight shirts and skirts to come out. I love watching a woman who can pull off the simple yet highly alluring look of a white tank top with matching skirt.
Give her a pony tail and I am in heaven.

Unfortunately, you need to move out or stop paying the bills. I hope that it isn't all in your name or your hooped as it is.
People don't usually learn from mistakes when others facilitate the error. It will be tough, but once she realizes that all her money needs to be reallocated, she might come back. She also might just find another man to facilitate her needs again.
A rough break but you need to break the pattern... soon.
Good luck.

How do you stay motivated?

over the last few months something has made me very tired. I feel like my body is forcing me to go into literal hibernation
I get the same feelings in December, March, and October. In Canada the sun is noticeably shifted and the weather gets colder. Don't feel awkward, it happens to us too.
I was sleeping 10 hours a day, then 12, now sometimes more than 12 and it's never enough
You are sleeping too much. Start weening yourself off the sleep and it should get better. Take a nap in the day if you really need it. Remember your body is healing itself when your inactive. If it continues, you could have some medical issues that need to be looked at.
Good luck.

Male Yeast Infection
Posted:

Here is the fix. It is cheap. I found out about it from a friend. It worked within an hour. Felt a difference within the first few minutes.
Product is in the pharmacy on the shelf and very cheap. No PRESCRIPTION needed.
Name: Acidophilius
Price: $10 for 100 capsules.
Take four pills, open them up from the gel pack. Apply to irritated area. Then feel the relief. Product is Probiotic, and can be found in active yogurt... which you can also use.
I didn't know about it, but now you do too. Don't let yourself get caught in a yeast cycle.
Google Acidophilus, you will not be disappointed.

Working out for the purpose of getting laid.... No I wouldn't.
Getting laid has only a small part to do with physical appearance. It is the start, but it is not the be all of sex.
Workout for yourself not for others. You can't live up to others expectations.

I am sick and tired of treating autism like it is as bad or worse than ailments like cancer and other terminal issues. Kids are kids, let them be spaced out. Life is not designed for the one kind of person that hails to be this side of perfection. I just can't wrap my head around why Autism is so darn dangerous to our children.

Oh and the "GM" thing is this standing joke I have. All these women on POF are looking for "Good Men" except in the forums, they apparently are not looking that hard. The misspelling of vanilla is intentional. Thanks for all the advice.

That feeling your getting.... throw it on the floor. I agree with some of the posts. Your a gorgeous woman. A wingman would not be settling for you. I think you may be ruining the moment before it even begins. If you think your the second choice, that really is too bad. My guess is this time next year, you will be with a man who really wants to be with you. Plus the bar scene isn't really made for lasting relationships. It does happen, but many are not at the club to find their true love. More like the best fun they can get for the night... and maybe morning.
Sounds like you're in a slump, and my prediction is that your slump is nearing an end.

Do you remember when you went from Tomboy to Woman?
Posted:
1/19/2008 4:30:27 AM
This one popped into my head today. As a male I can remember women that are naturally beautiful but for whatever reasons leaned towards a tomboyish look. Then like a switch they changed their look towards something more feminine and my mouth just dropped. In my adolescence it made me reconsider what I thought was beautiful.
My question is, do you remember the time when you changed your look and immediately started receiving different attention from men? What kind of emotions were you feeling through this change and did you enjoy the new type of attention?
Thanks.

Property Tax Assessments...
Posted:
1/7/2008 10:59:44 AM
Just so everyone knows....
If your going to argue your assessment.... take pictures and request at least more than 30 Grand off. Anything less will seem a waste of time. Have good reasons for the over assessment, and use facts which are backed up or at the very least unarguable by the committee.
Second.... your assessment may have gone up a ton, but the adjustment is only a few bucks. Be cautious. The rumor I am hearing is this year the assessments go through the roof. Next year the percent of tax adjustment goes through the roof.
What does this mean? If your going to argue your assessment do it this year, not next year. Remember, the system that they regulate your house value is generic and based on averages and point value systems. If your house is an oddity, the system may not pick up on it.
Finally... don't get angry. The process is very shrouded and secretive. Information is up to you to collect and the system works with the city in mind, not the home owner. No one is against you directly, so remember that when your arguing your case. It is business. Nothing more nothing less.
Enjoy.

Buddy, please before you go off the deep end and meet women face to face....
Change your profile. No pic, you live alone with your cat? You need to spice up your profile to entice someone to join in the fun.
I see no problem getting set up with someone, but I have found it usually blows up on me.
Hold off on the towel and jazz up your profile. Then blanket the market with messages and see what comes back.
Cheers.

What is your kyptonite at the gym?
Posted:

I have been going to the gym since I was in High School. I am not super hard core but I have put on some serious muscle compared to my teen years. No matter how many times I go to the gym I feel like super man being confronted with the strength sucking kyptonite if an attractive spandex clad woman works out next to me. Never fail. I have only once or twice felt like pushing harder when confronted by a beautiful woman.
So my question is, what make syou run out of gas at the gym? Women, Men, bad smells, talkative people, cell phones. Am I the only one?

If a guy views you profile but doesn't message you....
Posted:
1/5/2008 4:06:54 PM
I think the viewing profile section on POF should be upgraded. A profile should be not only listed as who has looked at you. The viewed me section should list the amount of views per day and have more categories like "friends, hot, great profile...." the viewed me section can be way too general for most inferences of personal interest. I have clicked on peoples profile to find my mouth unable to shut and times when I couldn't click fast enough to someone else.
My advice is initiate with everyone, hedge your bets and when you find a catch hold on to them and change your profile accordingly.
Good question.

Every Summer I get down to a comfortable weight. Then in the winter months I put on between 10-15lbs. I am starting to get more comfortable with the weight, but at this moment, it is starting to get frustrating. The good news is every January, the gyms are flooded with new members. I seem to get a new wind and start the weight loss all over again.
Its funny that our lives are so blessed with food, but we battle what that great food does to our own bodies.

If you have the cash, buy a place. Search for a foreclosure or a couple that has separated and needs to liquidate fast. Find something that you can afford and then either sit on it or fix it up. Either way you should probably be able to make some money back when you decide to buy where you wanted to.
Renting is always an option, but real estate always goes up.

Wiping off equipment prior to using it

I agree with piscescoda. Wiping equipment may be important but one kink in the chain and it is lost.
At my gym they want us to wipe the machines, but we don't wipe the free weights. The same guy that wipes the bench is the same guy sitting naked on the change room bench without taking a shower. Take a shower after your done, and get clean. Let your immune system pick up the rest.
Wiping is a circuitous practice that should be done for just that. Don't expect to "clean the bench with the already damp used towel and spurts of liquid that came out of the bottle to be wiped up.
It's crazy the extent a person will go to make it look as if they have done something significant for another. Wipe up your sweat and hope others take the same measures. After that, keep clean after your workout.

Why do married men masturbate?

You need to ask your husband your question. He might not know you want to get him off. Communication is the key. Your profile pics are quite stunning. I would think that your not married by some of the shots.

Guys, feeling depressed about this site? This will help!

Your argument is compelling. I too have taken a softer approach to this online dating. Your right that people (not just women) shop around on this site and most don't mean what they say. It comes down to perceptions and expectations and ultimately attraction. Dating online is an "always something better out there" scenario and sometimes that sucks.
I like your advice, and if we were smarter our profiles would look better than they should to appeal to the window shoppers out there. I am on a journey to see how much fun I can have with my profile. I have a feeling when I go through the next profile change I will have more women stopping by for a peak at what I may be able to offer.
Great thread.

Why do women date mutiple guys at once?

As it must be frustrating to know the other person sitting across from you has made it clear they are seeing other people. Take pause and realize that this behavior is happening on both sides of the fence. Exclusive relationships are communicated and by your message it sounds as if you are not there yet with her.
Relax, the best news you could have received was in the form of her mistaking your name. Let her go and find someone that will remember you.
