Maybe not a big thing for a non-asian, but...

No longer being asked for ID going into a bar. Wait, maybe it isn't such a bad thing looking over 21!

People over 30 that are not taken - something wrong with them?
Posted: 11/16/2009 7:39:33 AM
I have a theory, which was from my other post.

People who are good looking, established and between 35~44 have alot more options. They can date the 20 something that wants to have fun while she develops her career. They can date women 10~15 years their senior without looking creepy. Or they can date established women in their 30's who either act like they are in their 20's (looking for fun and a great time and no commitment) or have a ticket biological clock timebomb and is looking for husband material.

So while I am fairly average looking, I too have found alot more options in my 30's and I am capitalizing on them while I got the chance, which includes a lot of travel and buying things that I couldn't if I were married with kids. Is marriage an option? Sure, I plan to start looking when I am 40 something.

I'm sure for women in our age bracket, it is the same thing.

Can you party hard like a 20yr old when you are over 30?
Posted: 11/16/2009 7:14:37 AM
^^^ Sad for her or sad for you?

I still "party hard" 2~3 times a month and I am glad me and my friends don't take our cameras with us. However, I see it as good fun, and nothing more. After 5 days of hard work, why not let down our hair and let loose?

Do you LUV your iPhone?
Posted: 11/13/2009 7:11:09 AM
"I don't LOVE my iPhone...but I use it to log on to facebook or check my e-mails if I am out...I use it more for the iPod. I'm not massively technical so its probably a waste of phone on me!. "

No offense, but that is a huge waste of money. You're better off getting the iPod Touch, a regular phone and saving thousands over the lifetime of the contract.

I was considering an iPhone to replace my iPod Touch, but realized that it would be a complete waste of money, since one device does everything I need it to do and I have a low cost monthly plan for a phone that does the rest.

Cinderella..But.wheres my prince
Posted: 11/12/2009 2:19:32 PM
I don't know if it's a copout or even if I will offend other, but POF is an free open forum dating site. That means it will attract everyone in the pond (pun intended) and that includes alot of people looking for sex, who can find it here since there is low investment.

I think you have to increase your BS detector to 11 and weed out those who are sincere and those who are looking for a LTR. Many people on these threads are very nice (even though they can be very direct) and these are like the folks you need to find..

most popular mixed race relationships
Posted: 11/12/2009 7:39:17 AM
"new jersey where ever there are hispanics you are starting to see alot of hispanic men and black women. I myself am one I love that mixture"

That;s because many hispanics and black people share the same nationalities, such as Cubans, Brazillians and Dominicans.

While it may seem exotic to non-Latin country dwellers, it's fairly common.

There are stats. The census measures mixed race marriages and have for many years.

Not 100% accurate on relationships, but a good leading indicator.

Why are the majority of Americans so apathetic in politics?
Posted: 11/12/2009 7:31:10 AM
It's because America really only has a one party system and no variety.

Even our northern neighbours have 4 parties with different ideology (most of them left of center to the far left).

We need 3~4 ideologically strong parties, not two parties that claim to be different, but end up more similar than not.

To put it in a "political news sense", we need a "Keith Olberman" far left party, a
"campbell brown" left of center party, a "joe scarborough" right of center party and a "rush limbaugh/sean hannity" far right party.

aka: socialist, democrat, republican and libertarian parties.

Now that would create more interest in politics.

Why some men never want marry?
Posted: 11/10/2009 12:17:06 PM
"I've never known or heard of any man that has fared better financially than women in a divorce. Men never get support payments, and are crippled with the financial consequences of divorce for decades. In fact, people say that divorce is the biggest threat to a man's financial security....."

I don't know what the argument is about, the most studies say that on average, men make off better after a divorce.

Yeah, men often have to make support payments, but it's nowhere close to what is being paid if they all (wife and kids) lived together as a family unit.

Guns a right but healthcare a privelage?
Posted: 11/10/2009 10:00:03 AM
Actually, even Canada is looking at a two tiered (private and public) system, so universal healthcare is not the utopia it claims to be.

I think both the Repubs and Dems have their issues and the right answer is somewhere in the middle.

I think Government Healthcare is a possible solution, but states have the right to opt in (not opt OUT).

I think the Healthcare is a RIGHT, and that Insurance companies cannot just use the dreaded "pre-existing condition" to deny health care coverage.

I think there should be cross state competition, and I shake my head everytime that Dems ignore that issue.

I think Abortion should not be apart of any public health plan (except for Rape and incest). It may be legal, but it is morally questionable to about half the population.

However, I think that legal liability causing medicine to skyrocket is a red herring. It isn't lawyers driving doctors to practice defensive medicine and write up every test known to man, it is greed. Studies from Northwestern has shown that in Missouri and Texas, where legal liability is restricted, health care costs are going up just as fast. This is because many people are ordering up test and getting kickbacks from those testing.

Whats it like being single over 30?
Posted: 11/9/2009 2:49:18 PM
It's great. Like I wrote in another thread, I spend alot less now than I did in my 20's because I know myself better, I don't have to impress other people like I did when I was younger.

The women I am dating are still roughly the same since my 20's, but I have been on dates with women in their late 40's too. I think I have become alittle more picky as well.

As for the ticking clock, I don't feel it, mainly because I am often told that I don't look my age (I guess it's an Asian thing) and I don't act like an old fogey. Also, due to making more money in my 30's, I'm not restricted by $$$ to do the things I want to do. If I want to visit my friends in Japan, Australia or Portugal, all I got to do is get their blessings to come and pack my bags.

Of course, I can't party the way I did when I was 24, but one thing is that I appreciate my sleep a whole lote more!

Being single = having no life ??
Posted: 11/9/2009 9:14:31 AM
I disagree with the above statement to a point.

Since I am not in a committed relationship, I am asked much more than when I was committed, by either other single friends, or married guys who are looking for me to join their golf foursome.

Now, when I go home at night, or wake up in the morning, I am often alone but I don't mind that. It seems like couples like to do alot of things differently anyways and with my circle of friends, I have alot more variety.

Why some men never want marry?
Posted: 11/5/2009 8:38:57 AM
I think marriage would be nice and I do believe in soulmates (maybe not just one though).

The problem is that my biological clock is digital, so I can't hear it tick, so I guess I'm not just not in a rush right now. Like I posted, marriage is not the be all or end all for me, so if I never get married, I can live with that pretty easily.

But I am not one to be committal, just have to find the right one and nothing has turned me on my head in the past several years.

I figured out the girls on POF

"So you don't agree with the folks who have asserted (in other threads) that the ratio of men to women on here does not matter? I can't quite see their reasoning, but they seemed pretty sure of it. Maybe because they were somehow benefitting from it. Who knows? "

I don't agree with this statement, and I use stats to develop multimillion dollar campaigns, so the argument should make sense to me right?

The overall male vs female ratio is a factor, but not the only factor and may not even be the most important factor.

The ratio of women to men is not as important because the sheer number of people of POF. If there is 800K men and 400K women, the difference is not a huge factor, because you are looking for a few, not all 400K.

The variable factor is how much you act. If you send out 10 emails, the chances are higher if you send out 100 or 1000.

And if success is determined by a committed long term relationship (or just getting a first date), it is often self limited by looks, distance and things like age which has nothing to do with POF.

So does POF a scam? No, its the free market and those who work the hardest will often get the results they want, while those who are too selective or men who are waiting for women to contact them will lose.

My advice. Know the playground you are playing in and create a strategy to succeed.

I met my last two GF in KC (when I came, I knew NO ONE) though friends I've met.

I love hosting dinner parties and football Sundays at my house and invite a whole bunch of friends, who brings other friends. I met my first set of friends through work (a tiny office of less than 20 people) and virally, my network of friends grew.

Luckily, I also live in an apartment complex, so I met a couple of neighbors (alot of UMKC students here) and I started networking from there.

I think that meeting people requires that you network. There isn't much to it. And staying at home is a great way to tell people that you are not available. Unfortunately, I find that friends will forget you if you don't have a long history with them (aka School chums) so I am out and about all the time.

This Thanksgiving, I am working at Harvesters donating my time (and canned foods) and hoping to meet more cool people.

What is sexy about FAT???
Posted: 11/4/2009 3:10:37 PM
All I can say is that the mind allows us to have individual and interesting obessions that often does not fit into some generic category, hence the word "fetish".

Some people love feet, some wearing the clothes of the opposite sex, some obese people. The beautiful thing about the human mind is the variety that comes with it.

I never want to be negative or personally attack anyone seeking advice, but I would have to agree with Helen0426 pointed comment on this one.

You may be nice, but this is not being nice, it is being afraid of rejection. You need to step across the line and take the relationship where you want it to be, because it is just stagnant where it is now and eventually, she will leave you behind.

Courage my friend.

C'mon OP, you knew when they started the remake trend, Hollywood was dead!

Having said that, I think some of the remakes were good, especially on the SciFi side. Battlestar Galactica was better than the original and I'm hoping that the "Prisoner" (remake of the 60's show) looks good, cause it's appealing.

I think that there is some great TV out there, but I find it on Cable. I am a huge fan of "True Blood" and "Entourage". I like "Mad Men" (cause it's about the industry I'm in) and just started watching golden oldie (okay not that old) "Deadwood".

But now they're coming out with an A-Team movie.....that's holiness that one should not touch! It's bad enough what they did to Knight Rider....

Anything worse than poor hygiene on a date?
Posted: 11/3/2009 1:22:46 PM
I always tell people who want to quit the dating scene that there are things in their dating life that they can control and things you cannot.

Hygiene is one you can and it amazes me how people don't put that higher on their list. I mean hygiene should fall in with manners, presenting a desirable appearance and not asking for sex on the first date, shouldn't it?

Does online dating make your life easier?
Posted: 11/3/2009 1:19:52 PM
I've been doing well offline but online has been a bit of a bust. In the "real" world, I find that I can screen people more naturally, because I'll meet them at an event or a dinner party (where I met my last gf) and if there is no match, then no worries.

With online, there is no body language, you can mis-interpret the written word especially if there is no context, to set up a date often takes alot more planning than the real world (coffee dating has just not been in any of the ladies cards as a proper first date) and often it feels more awkward (I'm not much of a cold communicator on the phone or email. I love the face to face).

But the forums are exciting and I can argue with a whole bunch of people who must obviously think i'm delusional or idiotic!

For a nerd like me, a dork is a term of affection.... but not for everyone....

I think that different hobbies are okay, but different attitudes, personalities and outlooks on life, a little harder to get around.

And poster above is right. Attraction is a very strong magnet that often overrides everything, even reason.

Men in their 30s...
Posted: 11/3/2009 7:10:59 AM
Hey Sweetbilly,

I find the opposite. I find younger women often at the start of their careers and often you are squeezed in when they have the free time. I find the ones that tend to be more clingy are in their 30's, as they become more comfortable in their careers and are looking for more out of them (attention, time commitments, marriage commitments...).

I prefer a woman to have her own life and not rely on me to "fulfill" hers so on that front, I think we are in agreement.

Careers that Drain Your Energy

The woman I started seeing recently is a law student and in the office where she works part time as a legal assistant, some lawyer's clock 70~75 hours. She sees them loving the money they make and the perks it brings but she also wonders if it is worth her losing her prime to work for potential financial security down the line.

HEck, she's still young, so she has a chance to change directions if she wishes.

I on the other hand have been a disciple of Dave Ramsay forever, so I have no debts nor do I live extravagantly and my job is stable working for a company that is growing, so I haven't felt the impact of the recession.

Why not?

Canada, with a population of only 34 million people have like 5 political parties!

None of them true conservatives as well!

I think the US could have 3~4 parties. At least it would lead to more interest in politics, since many feel that the main two are not for them, hence to growth of self-proclaimed "independents".

why is that an older woman looking for younger men is OK but...older men for younger girls is BAD
Posted: 11/2/2009 5:05:29 PM
I think age shouldn't be an issue....both ways.

It's funny how people want to put others into a category. On a thread I posted on this forum, I am getting funny arguments from women saying that I "don't deserve" dating a younger women, because I'm not all that, but would complain bitterly if I made such a blanket statement about them, because they think they're "all that".

The truth (and it is a truth) is that people have many different reasons for desiring a person that they find attractive and while there are trends (most people date and marry within their age ranges), there is no definitive "right or wrong", unless it isn't legal.

Hey Southknox,

I wonder if there is some underlying issue. Not just with the person you reference, but I also received an email from a 30's someone who is basically yelling at me that men 35-44 are creepy and that most in that demo do not appeal to ANYONE, not even people own age and shouldn't even try to date, since we are so undesirable as men.

It seems like a bitter unlying anger from some ppl as she went on a rave how women in the 30's prefer younger men anyway.

I live for positivity, but some of these posts are depressing on how pointed and angry they are (for no reason).

I always considered movie music composers to be the modern day version of the classical music composer.

I'm also a fan of James Horner and of course, John Williams, who made Star Wars and other Spielburg movies, 4 olympic theme songs, TV shows like Gilligan's Island and Lost in Space and of course classics like The Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure and Fiddler on the Roof (which he won an Oscar).

Is Dating over 30 tougher than it was when you were in your 20's?

Hey amillio-bello,

And you wonder why it is harder for some people to date in their 30's.

Age is just a number IMO and there is a whole world of single people in all age brackets.

Men 35-44, are we in the sweet spot?

I would argue that. You are assuming (like the one I've been "chatting" with) that men go for women because they are hot and young. That is not always the case because there is alot of hot and women in their 30's often look as young.

My personal observation is that of what people really want in a relationship. I know a whole slew of guys who have a male version of a biological clock and all they want to do is settle down and get married. They do not feel that they are in a particular sweet spot right now.

However, there are alot of guys to whom marriage is not a goal. They feel that women in the 20's (and 40+) are more suitable because many of them feel that marriage is something not for them right now, whereas in their 30's it is. It is not just about the sex or going after a pretty face, but finding compatibility in the moment but knowing what you want?

Is it is good or bad? Are women's behavior on shows like "Desperate Housewives" any better? Is judging a person solely on looks any more mature?
