Because they are easier to ride than horses. Women of course can handle the horses and perfer them. LOL

men outnumber women on dating sites Fact? or Myth?
Posted:

There are so many ways to look at this. For example, is the ratio consistent over age groups? How many men and how many women are "lurkers" but never contact any one? Why are most of the people on the forums women? I think it is a good way to meet people and see if their values match.

i was wondering and looking for genuine advice

In general, a recent study supports that women get obsessed/in love with a person - after they have landed him. Once there they often will stay in bad relationships and expend much time and energy. Men get invested before they land the person - hence all these visual people on the board.
I'd say that you are falling in the second half - you don't have this person and therefore it is a fantasy relationship. Everything is wonderful in fantasy relationships. Perhaps you hold on as the real world is scary and has let you down too many times.
You could try going out with him and his partner - that will drive home the relationship and perhaps you might see things you don't like.

Why is animal euthenasia ok, but human isn't?
Posted:
9/11/2008 4:46:37 PM
On the equestrian bb's we've often discussed when is the right time to euthenize our animals. It causes us untold pain and yet, at some point we know it is the right thing to do.
We agree that the animal will let us know. When they don't enjoy life, the sparkle is gone, they have chronic pain and there is no hope of a cure (old age can't be changed), then it is time to let them go.
Most of my family thinks that it is up to the person to call the time for themselves. You can't ask someone else to do it as it is illegal and I think unethical to place that kind of a burden on any other human. There are usually ways to manage this unless you are suddenly incapicatated.

Another Sacrifice at the Alter of Morality
Posted:

How sad for both families. One boy is dead and the other has lost his future.
In general, I find that many teenagers and early 20 somethings are much less mature than in the past or at the very least, don't really understand that actions have consequences. There is a current trend to "explain away all bad behaviour" so it isn't anyones fault anymore. You can see examples of this on both sides of the fence.
IMHO: To kill is wrong and 14 yr old's are not adults. When incarserated, I would hope that he gets mandatory counselling in anger management.

High Blood Pressure
Posted:
9/6/2008 6:29:59 PM
My first thought was to go back to your doctor and remind him that you have asthma. There are many different medications available so you don't need to take something that could lead to complications.
Losing weight, eating for your bp .....etc are all good. But that is not the answer for every person as just like certain medications, it doesn't work for everyone. Never forget that many people take bp medication everyday without side effects and live long active lives. High bp is called the silent killer for a reason.

Instead of trying to change the world, concentrate on the segment that doesn't want kids. Yes, the pool is small but you will be happier. Accept it.

Does a guy's job really matter?
Posted:

I truthfully don't think it is about the "job" as much as about the "dream". The perenial dream is to raise yourself and those around you. Freedom from worry, assurity of funds for healthcare and a safe environment for kids - those aren't shallow goals.
Don't condemn people for having their dream - go find someone who agrees with your viewpoint and status.

overweight/BBW women with fit men
Posted:

Actually, studies increasingly point out that weight is not always the culprit that is thought to be. When they look at heart disease, for example, there are heart attacks waiting to happen in both segments of the population. Thin people often have high colesteral. I often wish they would factor in age - growing old is not good for your health. LOL

Perhaps they are just gentlemen.
My mom told me this weekend that when she went shopping she had to use her cane as it was a bad day. She commented that many men were opening doors for her and how nice that was. Mom is 83. It never occured to either of us that they were doing anything strange. Perhaps this is a generational thing?

It's a Small World, After All - Too Small For China's Industrial Pollution
Posted:
9/2/2008 1:44:13 PM
Pollution is caused by poor manufacturing processes and dated or nonexistant use of scrubbing technology. Corporations know no loyalty to countries. They are motivated to make the most money. They are global corporations and they sent the manufacturing there in the first place.
Should China have more sense? Yes but they also have a huge population and poverty lets many things slide - such as the environment.
The growth in China will slow down as higher wages are paid and living standards increase - but the jobs won't come back to NA only the pollution.
Unfortunately, the Chinese who do care can't openly protest.
The only method we have to pressure corporations is through our ability to purchase. Perhaps off topic, but I'd like to see full disclosure on goods that we purchase. If something in that dog food came from China, I would like to know that and let my purchasing power talk for me. In other words, ban goods with Chinese content until quality, safety and the environment are protected.

College presidents seek drinking age debate ???
Posted:
9/2/2008 1:31:34 PM
On the news this weekend - it was a news clip about this topic and how many universities want the drinking age lowered.
Going from memory here - Someone did a research project tracking binge drinking: 1/ if parents, particularly the mother, said nothing to the college student and 2/ if the parents, particularly the mother, gave a repeated lecture on drinking responsibly. The parents knew the kid would drink - just wanted them to avoid binging.
The one's with the strong lectures had a far lower level of binge drinking. Those who had the lecture from the mother, had the lowest.

Are black women an endangered species?
Posted:
8/31/2008 5:49:23 PM
CNN recently aired a documentary on "Black in America" . If you get a chance to see it you should. They covered it from the male and female perspectives as well as health. AIDs is an issue. I was truly saddened as these are beautiful young women with if not a great education - at least high school education - with access to condoms, etc. Poverty plays a role. Youth plays a role. The fact that black young men are often in jail where they contract AIDs plays a role.
That said, Black women are not an endangered species and to them I say - you go girl.
China: I have a brother and nephew living in China - no we are not asian. There are 20 million more men than women of marriagable age. It is changing their culture. Girls worry less about getting a boyfriend or being treated well as "it is easy to get another one". Family come up entire economic levels with arranged marriages so I guess there is a bit of "selling" still going on.
Great odds though if you are a women.

the ex, and the ex and again the ex
Posted:

Perhaps this should be asked in the "ask a guy" section. Their answers might be interesting.
Although I don't think either sex has a monopoly on complaining about ex's, this question was about guys. I have many brothers who have friends - I know too much. Guys really love to trash their ex's when with other guys - usually about how she took them to the cleaners. Learning - never try to argue with people drinking.
Perhaps they get used to this talk in a social setting and it spills over into social setting on dates.

He might be telling the truth and is not married. That of course doesn't mean that he isn't living with another person.
Please don't take a bad experience to heart. Just write it off as a lesson learned and go forth and date. It is his problem not yours and there is no need to make it so. It is a process of getting to know people without any guarantees.

I've worked for insurance companies. They make huge profits. Now I'm not against making profits but how do you justify raising premiums when you making record profits? You are naive if you think this is anything more than a money grab.
I agree with the premise that if you charge them more, then anything that proactively reduces the risk should be covered.
As stated before, an average means that there are many who don't have large claims. Perhaps if they added charges to all people - skinny or overweight - who exceed the norm it would make more sense.

Missouri Police taser injured boy 19 times

Why do they use the taser over and over? Why 19? Couldn't you stop at 2?
We've had a couple of people killed in Canada due to taser. One was in an airport and someone video taped it. They just kept pulling the trigger - why? Are the police poorly trained? Are they just not aware of how to use them? Are they just in situations that they can't handle and think people should react the same as if you shot them?

Banned for Being Too Good

I did read the article in the news yesterday but don't claim to know all the details. My first thoughts were - wow, there are some adults here acting really badly and find that boy a different league to play in. Little guys shouldn't be terrorized by a pitcher/ringer. No he doesn't hit them but would you want to bat against a major leaguer? It's also a shame for the good pitcher to go through this. He has to know that this is too small of pool for him to be swimming in.

College presidents seek drinking age debate ???
Posted:
8/27/2008 3:50:51 PM
As a Canadian, I can't see what all the fuss is about. Our drinking age is lower and there aren't any real problems created; however I don't see any are aliviated either. University students here can be just as stupid when it comes to drinking. I thought it was just the new generation. I suppose ours do it legally. The point is if you lower the age, nothing much would change.
My daughter went to University in the US and did see the partying. We often wondered how they all got so much alcohol and parents, teachers and law enforcement looks the other way. Many parent bought the alcohol - which might mean that there is support for lowing the age.

However it happened - a big high five for the 9 year old. What confidence and absence of fear to fight for yourself, even against her parents. Either she is a strong willed as they are or they are really really awful parents. Changing a name is a small thing compared to changing parental responsibilities.
I don't think the government is going to change anytime soon. In this case, they were asked to rule and fortunately found a judge with some guts.

Posted:

No. I think it is too soon to be "special" although it may turn out to be that if you meet the right person. Most of the time first dates are a bit strange and I don't think we should put that much pressure or importance on them.
As for Unleaded4you, I think nature would make a great first date as long as it was in a fairly public place. I don't think many women would be comfortable with that if it wasn't.

Posted:
8/18/2008 5:28:51 PM
I think a very important point is that - it takes time to truly develop a relationship. It takes many conversations, meetings and observing the date out on the town, at home, with friends and family, etc.
As mature people - in age anyway - I think we often think we can figure people out immediately when the truth is that is likely impossible due to the fact that at our age we have well developed social skill sets that cover up the flaws.

Are Scientists too Selfish?
Posted:
8/11/2008 8:25:59 PM
Throughout the ages, scientists were multi discipline in their training. There is great synergy when you understand the advances in other areas and it is at that intersection that innovation happens. That innovation could be a great cancer solution - perhaps it will come from research completed on a space mission.
So I say, scientist - continue following your interests, take the frontier of knowledge farther out and lastly, pay attention to other studies - you never know when it will pay off. I love my BlackBerry.

Is breeding the right thing to do these days?
Posted:

Wow, you really don't have any idea why people are called to have families - yes that means children. It is a good thing you don't want any and fortunatley, there are many women who also don't want children. Try meeting them instead of trying to change the ones who want them.
Education and access to birth control are the best methods to control populations. Unfortunately, a great many people in the world don't have either. In North America and Europe, we have both and generally have a declining birth rate.

Are people REALLY as romantic and mushy as their profile states?
Posted:
8/2/2008 10:56:01 AM
Well, this aspect of profiles has had me puzzled for some time. With 52 years of experience and a very logical mind, guys on POF should be the same as those in the general population with one exception. I don't see many men waxing poetic on a day to day basis.
The reason that they are different - is that they want a relationship. Sometimes I read their profile and think - they want a fairytale not a relationship. And I don't think the gals are any different.
Perhaps they are fudging it to come across as more attractive but I think most actually believe it.
I wish them well and hope they find what they are looking for.

My dad, who is also well, had more trouble with aging and I see two of my brother going the same way.

Interesting question - while I agree that it shouldn't be "effort" and the benefits should be something you desire, I think it is definately different forming relationships later in life. Is the question on the effort or on learning to be yourself and changing your approach?
