Martin Guitar Factory Tour
Posted: 6/24/2006 8:11:03 AM
Greetings! It's been awhile!

We are going with another couple on a Pennsylvania tour next weekend , and I would like to hear from anyone that did the Martin Guitar factory tour. Seeing as I'm close to purchasing perhaps a D-28, I thought the tour would be informative.

We also plan to visit Amish country near lancaster (Fiancee loves antiques) and end in Philly where I will do the Rocky stairs at the art museum lol.

Does anyone familiar with the area have any good music shop suggestions perhaps near downtown Philly?

Thanks in advance

Happy Birthday Canada!
Posted: 7/1/2005 6:58:31 AM
That's all!
And to our American Neighbours, happy (soon to be) fourth!
Being that I'm in the Capital, I'm going to avoid the hill at all costs, although a patio close to downtown may be in our agenda today. How's everyone planning to celebrate?

I'm "pro choice" for women..I just thought that I would add my cents...Although adoption is definitely an option, I could understand where a horrible circumstance like a rape would warrant an abortion. This is just from one male's perspective though.

Progressive taxation
Posted: 6/4/2005 7:39:35 AM
I like the concept of "pay for use"...
Every year there should be a checklist of services you DID NOT use.
For example, if you have no children especially school age, You did not visit a hospital, and you never drew from any safety net type programs, then you should get rewarded ,even in a small way come tax time..I know it would never happen though, and I'm just giving my own biased tax philosophy.

Cheers

This is what irks me...the only reason I didn't support the Iraq campaign is the fact that it wasn't a U.N santioned effort, no matter how irrelvant the U.N appears to be...

Ole Kim is starving his people, and narry a mention from the U.N to remove him..Now I understand that that Logistically this would be complicated, and as a matter of fact with China there, this would start a major war.

How about Zimbabwee (s.k)?

Does a country with a ruthless dictator have to have other countries interests involved before he/she is removed ($$$$).

Oh the hypocrosy

Who would win the Canadian Federal Election if it's called this spring.
Posted: 5/2/2005 7:56:55 AM
I'm hoping for a conservative minority government situation...Even though I still remember ole Ben Mulroney, I had it with the Libs..As a matter of fact, I think it would be good for the country if a western leader was elected instead of a Quebecer for a change..It's too bad though that (although he isn't a Westerner), Mike Harris wouldn't run for the federal Conservatives, because he set out and did what he said he was going to do..No matter how drastic and un-popular the changes were, he did Ontario good in my eyes...

The bottom line is that for the sake of balance, Canada needs a leader who is in touch with the West, and not from Quebec for once.

Cross Border Bargain Huntin'
Posted: 4/22/2005 9:28:09 PM
Yes I was the token pack mule for my g/f and Aunt's shopping venture today to up-state New York...Trust me I was a real trooper, and actually enjoyed some of the diffferent stores.grunt*

I did notice that, even with the exchange rate ,some prices were a lot cheaper, but for the most part they were similiar or negligible, especially at the box stores like Pay less, Sears..etc.

What got me, was that in Canada we are deprived on variety on such items as my perenial fave "Hamburger Helper"...As a matter of fact,it seemed like as far as processed or frozen prepared foods there is a "big time" difference in variety...I always thought that we had all the classic varieties of "Hamburger Helper such as stogonoff, lasagna . etc. covered, but holy shyt...I came back with such items as "Philly Cheese Steak", and "Chicken Quesidilla" which I have never seen here...Because I love the stuff, I noticed... I'm crying foul!! ..(Hamburger helper was the same price as over here btw..lol)
Well at least we never got nailed for duty at the border though and I got my new gut rot helper, so all is good.

If anyone cares...(Seemed like a current event topic)

How to spot dangerous people
Posted: 3/18/2005 5:29:13 PM
Not necessarily dangerous, but if you encounter hot and cold people on-line , then run..These people are merely gamers and these actions gives them a sense of self -empowerment because they could be hurt from past relationships and it's gender pay-back time, don't know what they want, or they are afraid of the "real life meeting" that once becomes inevitable they turn on the "freeze" faucet...And yes this is from my personal experineces, but I have finally met someone who appears to be promising, and at the very least genuine ..lol

THE GUITAR PLAYER'S THREAD
Posted: 3/10/2005 5:30:47 PM
"That's right, .........the guitar is REALLY easy to learn how to play"

I beg to differ Late! lol

As far as reading, Nope you can't read "feel"..or attitude..I was once in a band, where we tried out a keyboard player errr classically trained pianist who subsequently went on to the Royal Consevatory of Music..She couldn't play with a band, or keep time with a drummer..She needed the sheet music in front of her.

Yes.Rock and blues are based on a lot of 1- 1V -V progressions, and can be pretty basic, yet pretty darn demanding as well, but this is from a hacker's point of view (me)..lol

VIKING METAL(WHITE PEOPLE) METAL....WHY???
Posted: 3/9/2005 11:08:08 PM
Mmm to me groove can't be explained..I think the guitar in the verse section of G'NR'S "Welcome to the Jungle" oozes with groove, so does "Paradise City".

A band like Iron Maiden to me doesn't have a big groove, but their passion and feel comes out..ACDC totally grooves..maybe because of how tight and simplistic they are...Don't tell me E.V.H doesn't know how to write grooves!..Listen to his Rhythym,..But anyways, I think you were referring to the Iron Maiden /Queensryche type bands, which aren't necessarily oozing with groove but do have tons of feel and melody..I like certain bands for groove, and certain one's for their melodies and harmonies..Just because they don't have that "groove", it doesn't make them bad quality.

Canada says no to Missile Defence and George Bush....Right or Wrong ?
Posted: 3/8/2005 10:26:10 PM
I'm currently to lazy to scroll up and copy and paste whoever questioned the cold war style of defense..I agree

I mean is Russia about to lob missiles? I know terrorist groups don't have the funds to lob long range missiles , let alone from the Northern Frontier..Spend the money on intelligence and terrorist busting, and Canada should kick in too.
Ya it's just a money making scheme for large weapons manufacturers to make profit. Such a system would start an arms race, and initiate mass paranoia.
Times have changes..The real enemy would try to sneak in a nuclear bomb-suitcase, and not waste their time or money lobbing missiles..

China and Russia both know that if they were to attack, they would get ten fold back. Besides one likes to think that these two countries are civil enough, and on the modern "seat at the table" not to.
North Korea just likes to blow hot air to get aid money, and any rogue Mid-East nation probably doesn't have the technology to come up with such a long range missile to hit any part of the continental U.S..There's a lot of miles to cover!

Don't like Cops
Posted: 3/7/2005 4:21:22 AM
Here's my own lil beef with cops.

When I get pulled over for a speeding ticket, why do I get the ticket and a speech?..Why couldn't they give me one or the other!
Usually the speech is very patrionizing anyways, so just give me the full ticket, and let us part ways, or give me the full blown sermon, and no ticket..lol

Seriously, I never deal with cops but from what I see it's usually some of the rookies that wear the gloves and robo-cop sport glasses, while the older veterans seem cool headed and composed.

Single and never been married
Posted: 2/21/2005 11:33:06 PM
Wow this thread is geared to me!..Same here..I like to think that I'm perfectly relationship worthy/ready ,outgoing, and happy..For chemistry reasons I just never settled down with the women I was with...I'm still searching.. If there's a social stigma attached to that, then so be it. I think I'm institutionalized, meaning that I grew used to my independance.. I also know that the right woman for me just never came along yet, but at least I'm out there looking.

I get the "Well aren't you afraid of growing old alone" from my close minded sister who seems a little "un-fullfilled" at times being a stay at home mother in a small town.

I would like a family with at least one child of my own one day if time allows, but on destiny's terms..I'm not going to force it. I could be happily single with many friends and family too..Valentine's day and couples parties suck though.

Ha ha I have a few..One time when I was in college, my instructor took us outside on an astonomy lesson. he pointed skyward and said " There's Polaris, also referred to as the North Star".

It was dark out, so I said.." Nah those are street lights you are pointing at!"

Had to be there I guess. The whole class cracked up. He did as well.

The green eyed monster
Posted: 2/18/2005 7:50:26 AM
It's funny..I had an ex-g.f who once complained to her best friend (ya she had a big mouth and told me), that it bothered her that I never got jealous enough..Like I didn't seem to care..In retrospect that was immature thinking on her part.

She had a male friend that was always part of her original group, and he would hang out with us, or her sometimes with just her and her other friends if I wasn't around..Anyways, I always knew that he had a thing for her, but I never really let it bother me, because why worry about things behond you're control right?
Well they eventually ended up together after we broke up, and are now married, so it just wasn't meant to be with us, and I'm happy for them.

Should I have been more protective of her when he was around knowing that he liked her? Show just a hint of jealousy, just to maybe show her that I cared?..Maybe. but I'm glad I never did..She always came home to me anyways.

If you are into lots of wilderness, definitely the land of the lakes ..The Northern Ontario country...If you are into that sort of thing..Lots of resorts/outfitters.

If you want cities..Definitely montreal!..Very fun and cosmopolitan.

Ottawa here is less than two hours away from Montreal..Nice city, but not too much action compared to Montreal unless you want to visit national museums, gov't stuff,or you're Embassy .It is a beautiful city non the less.

Campfire Songs
Posted: 2/15/2005 6:41:57 PM
O.k the fire is burning bright, and it's a star-filled night. What are your fave songs to sing-along to around a fire with some friends and a few flat tops going in the back?...I'll start with this one here.

Remember classic campfire type songs and not kumbaya ..lol

SIGNS (Five Man Electrical Band/Tesla)

VERSE ONE

And the sign says, "Long haired freaky people need not apply".
So I tucked my hair up under my hat and , and I went in to ask him "Why?"
He said. "You look like a fine outstandin’ young man. Ithink you’ll do."
A so I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that, huh me working for you."

CHORUS

Oh signs, signs everywhere the signs. Fuckin’ up the scenery, breakin’ my mind.
Do this do that, can’t you read the signs.

VERSE TWO

And the sign says, "Anybody caught trespassing will be shot on sight."
So I jumped the fence and I yelled at her house, " Hey what gives you the right."
To put a fence to keep me out, or to keep mother nature in?"
If God was here, he’d to you to your face, "Man you’re some kind of sinner."

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE

Oh!, I say now mister, can’t you read? You got to have a certain title, you see.
You can’t watch, no, you can’t eat. You ain’t supposed to be here.

And the sign says you’ve got to have a membership card to get inside.

VERSE THREE

The sign says, "Everybody welcome. Come in and kneel down and pray."
And they pass around the plate at the end of it, and I didn’t have a penny to pay.
A so I got me a pen and paper and I made up my own ****in’ sign.
I said thank you lord, for thinkin’ bout me. I’m alive and doin fine."

chorus twice
