This one and it's title are a work in progress. Started it a few weeks ago, but haven't made any further progress.
(the ... means to carry the syllable)
No place like home
This is no Emerald City,
and that's no yellow-brick road.
Sometimes there's no happy ending.
That's just the way life goes.
If home is where the heart is,
I must have left mine back with you.
I wonder if the Tin Man ever
felt these shades of blue.
With some brains and a little courage,
I'll make it back someday soon,
and when I do, oh the stories I'll have
to te...ll you
Because I've been around this world
and seen all I need to see,
but there's really only one
place I wanna be, so
I...............'m comin' home,
Yes, I............'m comin' home.

Just adding a little bit...still a work in progress
Your Heart's Maze
I almost lost you
But there you are
Searchin' for me
Now you're not that far
Away, so please don't stop
I'm your only way out
And lookin' back
Won't help you now
So keep on comin'
You're headed the right way
I promise there's a light at the end
Of your heart's maze
Where I'll make sweet tomorrows
Of all your yesterdays
Because my love is the exit
To your heart's maze
When those times come
That you feel you've gone astray
Just look into my eyes
And they'll help guide your way
Through the dark and the pain
Or whatever may trouble you
Your salvation lies here
In my baby blues
So just keep on comin'
You're headin' the right way
I promise there's a light at the end
Of your heart's maze
Where I'll make sweet tomorrows
Of all your yesterdays
Because my love is the exit
To your heart's maze

Haven't been here for awhile. I've started some new songs in the meantime, and finally finished my first one with accompanying music. I'm not much of a guitar player, but it sounds good to me.
Find My Way
I made up my mind. I’m not looking back anymore
You see, I know just how I ended up on this road
But now I’m not exactly sure where I wanna go
Should I go left, or should I go right,
Or keep on headin’ straight through the light
There’s gotta be someone out there who
Can show me which way is right
Because, sometimes I can feel so lost
While being crushed by the weight of my cross
I’m strong enough to carry it on for another day
But I’m wonderin’, when you’re comin’
To help me find my way
Won’t ya help me, find my way
I’ve been to so many places
And seen so many more faces
But yours is one I’ve yet to come across
I wonder how did I get so lost
I need your hands to help me from bein’
Crushed by the weight of my cross
You give me strength to carry it on for another day
Because I’m certain, that you’re comin’
To help me find my way
I know you’ll help me, find my way
Found you in the most crowded of places
You stood out amongst all of the faces
I’m so glad our paths have finally crossed
Never again will I feel like I’m lost
Not while your lovin’ hands keep me from bein’
Crushed by the weight of my cross
You give me strength to carry it on for another day
Ya, it’s amazin’, how you’ve come and
Helped me find my way
Thank you for helpin’ me, find my way
Ya, it’s amazin’, now that you’ve come and
Helped me find my way
Ya, you’re amazin’
….
Thank you

Sometimes I wonder of the things I’ve done
Were they right, were they wrong
If I could take them back, would it take long
Would I if I
Could I if I
Should I
One little choice sets ten others in motion
Were my choices just that, or merely an illusion
Of a clear headed mind simply full of delusions
I will
I can
I shall
Continue to do the things that I must
To live without regret, feeling no remorse
For things that will be done in due course

A new one I started, just have a few lines, but it has some potential
The Bright Side
It must be so nice.....
Always bein' on the right side
And always livin' on the bright side
Of....life
You're havin' fun even on the rainy days
You never let any troubles get in your way
Oh, it must be nice
When you're livin' on the bright side

No real progress on this one, but a couple changes...need to sit down sometime and let the subconscious mind work a bit.
***Update***
Sooner or Later
Last night I met a woman from Oklahoma
We had a drink and talked for a few
I asked her where she was headed, she said,
"Wherever this road takes me. Now how 'bout you?"
I replied...I've been from Maine to California, and back through Tennessee
I did a spell in Wisconsin, before heading down to New Orleans
Now I'm sittin' here in Austin, trying to...settle down
And it might not be the way it seems, but I'm hopin sooner or later, this
Road is gonna follow me

sgberry and Tallman,
Thanks for your posts. Sorry I haven't said so before, but I haven't had much time to write lately. I felt it was time to get back into it though as I need an outlet.
I haven't made much progress on the songs I'm working on, but wanted to post what I do have, and the start of yet another one.
***Update***
October Storm
It was an early October day when, that storm rolled in
The dust on the ground and rain in the sky, were both blowin' in the wind. All,
The windows were shut tight and the doors were closed
We were hidin' in the cellar as the thunder rolled
Just prayin' that the storm would...
Pass us by
The rain beat down like a thousand drums, on the cellar door
It rattled and banged, as the wind howled, like never before. Oh,
They say lightnin' never strikes the same place twice,
But the oak in the backyard doesn't lie
It's rings tell the story of...
The time that's gone by
And if you listened close, you just might have heard
The sound it made without a tear
As it cried, Why-i-e-iiiii
Am I-i-iiiii
Why-i-e-iiiii
Am Iiiii
Goin' dow-ow-e-ow-own
Down-ow-own
Dow-ow-e-ow-own
I'm goin' down
****Still workin out this verse****
So will you cry or stand and shout
And let 'em know you won't go down
On that early October day, when
Your storm rolls in

I went tonight for a little warm-up. Had a blast. I am bringing another single friend next week. See you all there. And if there are any 32-ish or younger women, I'd be happy to dance with you. Heck I'll dance with older women too, but I will probably only be asking the younger ones.

Ok, so this is kind of crazy, but I dream every night, and the night before last, in one of them I dreamed I was in a car and listening to a cd, and it was me singing a song. I am by no means a talented singer, but the crazy part was that the song sounded fantastic and it was coherent and the lyrics were great. I woke up and I wish I could say I remembered all the lines, but only the last one stuck with me.
It was, "Sooner or later, this road's gonna follow me."
I feel a bit like Tenacious D and "The Tribute" song, but I'll take inspiration wherever I can get it. I think it's amazing I created something in my dream. Too bad I can't remember it all, but there's always the hope I dream the same dream again, or that the subconscience works its way out as I write the song. I only have a little bit from messing around for now. This is going to be fun to work on. Here's a taste I guess, by no means set in stone...
---------------
Last night I met a man from Oklahoma, and we talked for a few
I asked, "Where are you headed?", and that's when he said,
"Wherever the road takes me. How 'bout you?"
That got me to thinkin', and then I replied,
"I've been from Maine to California, and back to Tennessee.
I've been up to Wisconsin, and then down to New Orleans.
Now I'm sittin' here in Austin tryin' to settle down.
I'm just hopin that sooner or later this road, is gonna follow me.
---------------
So here is to taking destiny into your own hands. Man, this is going to be a fun one to write.

Love this thread. It makes you think. I know the things I want in a woman, but it's rare that I ever actually sit down and think about it. Here's a first attempt and request for the Agency:
Play with me on and off the field
Laugh with me in good times and bad
Challenge me to be better every day,
But be understanding and loving on the days I’m not.
Have a creative, artistic soul.
Appreciate the little things in life
While dreaming the biggest dreams
And it wouldn’t hurt to be hott.
Have a firm backside and a slender frame
Bust my balls any given day
Have the self-esteem to get it in return
See the man I am, and aspire to be
Dance with me all night
Experiment with me in the kitchen
Have strong family values
Just be there, and love me

Picture of Me, Picture of You (The Colors We Use)
I'm sitting here staring
at millions of different colors.
All of them, just different shades
of a mere three.
Sometimes it makes me wonder
out of all the colors in the world,
which are the shades you think of
when you picture me.
Get the reds and the greens.
Don't forget the blues.
Without one of them, you'll never
get the right hues.
Paint my portrait carefully.
Give it some thought, but
it's alright to make mistakes.
After all, I have my flaws.
Hold that picture of me
in your mind and your heart.
Let it's colors run deep.
Let them run true.
That way I'm never too far.
Oh, somewhere tonight,
in my mind and my heart
I'm holding a picture of you

Infinite Memories.......................
Posted:
12/8/2007 3:04:24 PM
We recall at a moment's notice
The things we hold most dear
Taking joy in the minute details
Known to only those who were there
Sometimes they play like a movie
Letting us pause, slow-mo, and rewind
Others are more elusive
Popping up at unpredictable times
They can motivate us,
Infuriate us,
Fill us with immense love
There are days they bog us down
Not letting us get up
Until we decide we've had enough
Where would we be without them though
Having nothing to compare with the present
We would trod along blindly forever
Just prisoners of the moment
A cold, hard world it would be
Without the warmth of memories
Without the warmth of memories
A cold, hard world indeed

Sister,
My partner in crime.
My partner in time.
We shared the womb,
and yes you may be older,
but it's only because
I kicked your butt out.
Protective by nature
Competitive by nurture
Or maybe a little bit of both
At one point in time I'd of done
anything to torture you.
Now, I'd just do anything for you.
The special bond we have
that only twins share,
grows stronger by the day
Even though we rarely see each other now
It's always good to hear your voice,
and a blessing to hear you sing.
We don't always get along,
but I know that with us the good times
will always tip the balance.
If you ever need anything,
you know where to turn.
A smile, a hug, a good laugh;
You can always count on me.
I know you'd do the same for me, Sis.
Which is just one reason why I can say
I love you so very much,
Your "little" brother

Warcrimes?? sorry that we are not that young, I will try to invite some younger one for you. How young do you want them? I have a lot of young female friends to invite.
Well I wasn't sure I was going to make it, as I went on a wonderful date last week, but apparently she didn't think we had any chemistry. . . . so frustrating. Anyways, I'm 26 so probably not older than 30-32, but would prefer someone 28 or younger.

Thanks for posting! With pretty blues like that, I'm sure the young ladies will be signing up just any time now! Be sure to tell all your friends too!
Thanks shende. Glad to be here, and I'm enjoying it immensely so far. Thank you for the compliment. I try to use their power only for good. We'll see if I can swing anything with the friends. I'm sure I'll get one or two to come along.

hey warcrimes try grahms in pflugerville..
Thanks for the suggestion joe...I didn't mean there weren't young women at Midnight Rodeo. It was just fine last Saturday, although I hear Thursdays are packed with college age women. I am not too old for that...not yet.
I was referencing the people on POF who had joined the party. I will ask some friends about grahms though. Thanks.

I just moved to Austin a month ago, and have been to Midnight Rodeo once already. It was fun. A lot more two-stepping and less line dancing than other country bars I've been too. Of course they weren't in Texas. Not that I mind. Having a partner is better anyways. No offense to the rest of the group, but where are all the younger people? I'm sure there will be enough there as is.

I wrote this earlier this year and it's on my forum, but thought the people who found their way here might enjoy it.
Dedicated to my brother who already served a tour in Iraq, my father, and every other veteran. For those who never came back. . .
We Go Down
When there’s nobody left
When all is said and done
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
So many miles from home
Fighting here all for one
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
The bombs come down
The bullets fly by
We’re all on this wall
Ready to give our lives
Men will stand
And heroes will fall
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
The lucky ones
Get to come back home
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
Some new friends made
Some old ones gone
Never forget the price we paid
Make sure our memory lives on
Good men, laid to rest
The rest trying to, do our best
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
Tell us you love us all
Show us that you’re proud
As we go down in this song
We go down in this song
.
.
.
No, it won’t be long, now
Before we all go Home
Until then, we’ll go down in this song
We’ll go down . . . in this song

befuddled by the latest inventions
the tinkerer's mind void of revelations
time had taken its toll, sanity grabbed hold,
or else he was just getting old
no longer the authority
the one others looked to for clarity
just another consumer forced to use
things he never dreamed of in his youth

I have been pretty occupied looking for work and I think I am close to moving to Austin, TX for work, but I have started another song. I am always singing "This Side of Memphis" to myself, but I'm liking this one so far as well, even if there isn't much to it yet.

Salty,
Glad you enjoyed it. I actually grew up next to Stony Creek (Crick where I grew up), but thought it was a perfect metaphor for life, and what came after was a nice allegory for our journey.

Little Whirlpools of Life
Floating down the Stony Creek
I’ve come across many wondrous things
I’ve traveled from eddy to eddy
Floating freely for short times in between
I’ve left all those I started with
But we are all headed downstream
The current will bring us together again
And we’ll share stories of where we’ve been
Then off we’ll go on our separate ways
Pulled into new circles of friends
Particles of our past travels following us
As this elliptical dance winds and bends
What a fantastic ride it has been so far
That last spin was quick and shot me out
Now I’m back in the mainstream
A thousand different eddies reach out
Which is the maelstrom to draw me in
Changing my course forever more
Excited, scared, anticipating
Wherever it is one thing is for sure
I’ll make the most of my time there
Soon enough we all make it to shore

Inspired by all this talk about a dress....
Little Black Dress
His eyes wandered the jam-packed room
Until an attractive flash caught his gaze
The contrast of that little black dress
And the tan skin beneath with an oily glaze
Brought tantelizing images to his mind
And made his temperature raise
More than his spirits were lifted
As he sauntered across the room
Friends tried to stop him to say hello
But his attention was fixed in on zoom
The curves at the end of his straight b-line
Could break any man's constitution
Leave him willing to sell his soul
Breaking any previous resolution
And every so often as the dress's slit opened up
It let loose his imagination
He cracked a smile and hello
Sparked a conversation and dazzled her with charm
He couldn't believe how well things were going
Soon she was hanging on his every word as well as his arm
Her bosom seemed about to burst forth
Her cleavage out of this world
Somehow he managed to keep eye contact
Something no other man tonight had done before
Whispers of disbelief surround them
As he walks her towards the door
He's unaware, cuz the only thing on his mind
Is getting that little black dress to the floor

Expecting eternity to come around once more
I'm left here waiting at a golden door
Almost too afraid to knock to see what's in store
Good thing I've got friends on the inside
Ready and waiting with joy and pride
Welcoming me as I join the ride
Destination unknown on this runaway train
No worries here, no need to pull the chain
The conductor chugs along with a big grin
I'm ready now, so let the journey begin

Well this song is about 95% finished so I figured I'd share it. It still needs a little change of pace somewhere near the end, but it works for now. I really enjoyed writing this, and find myself singing it quite a bit. I hope you enjoy it too, even if you hear a different tune.
This Side of Memphis
On this side of Memphis
You know you've....gone too far
When you can't, see your name in lights
And nothin', seems to be goin' right
Every....turn you take
Turns out to....be wrong
And everything's....breakin' down, like in an old....country song
Oh, that's when you know, you've found yourself on
This side of Memphis
Well she's packing her bags and then she's gone
Looking for a chance to be someone
Filled up the tank and drove all night long
With the top down and the windows up
Singin' at the top of her lungs, but it's not enough
To drown out all the memories of
A hometown where she knew she didn't belong
She sang to the tune of a different song
And she knew it was time to just move on...
Because on this of Memphis
You know you've....gone too far
When you can't, see your name in lights
And nothin', seems to be goin' right
Every....turn you take
Turns out to....be wrong
And everything's....breakin' down, like in an old....country song
Oh, that's when you know, you've found yourself on
This side of Memphis
She made it to Nashville with her guitar and case
Singin' for her supper on the street and stage
Tryin' to show she's more than just some pretty face
While five hundred faces and a thousand feet
Pass her by each day, walkin' down the street
To afraid to stop and dream what they could be...
She knows how hard it is for them to break
The bad habits they have and tend to make
Into alibies for all of their mistakes
So she sings a song of how they can change
When to know it's time to turn the page
And realize that it's never too late...
When you're on this side of Memphis
And you've....gone too far
And you can't....see your name in lights
And nothin'....seems to be goin' right
Every....turn you take
Turns out to....be wrong
And everything's....breakin' down....like in and old....country song
Oh, that's when...
You know you've....found yourself on
This side of....Memphis

Thanks Jules. It's amazing sometimes what you can come up with just from a few notes. I've been really busy lately with graduation and looking for work. I'm working on about 4 songs right now, none of which I feel are good enough to post yet. I started another one today, kind of out of left field, but it's got a good chorus I think. Of course you can't hear the way I sing it, but it still reads nicely.
This Side of Memphis
On this side of Memphis
You know you’ve gone too far
When you don’t see your name in lights
And nothing seems to be going right
Every turn you take, turns out to be wrong
Everything’s breaking down, like an old country song
Oh, that’s when you know
You’ve found yourself on
This side of Memphis

I was sitting around the bonfire in the backyard last night, and as we were winding down, the guy on base guitar threw out a sweet somber melody. As my housemate and I were ad-libbing some verses, this came to me and I thought it was fitting for today.
Dedicated to my brother who already served a tour in Iraq, my father, and every other veteran. For those who never came back. . .
We Go Down
When there’s nobody left
When all is said and done
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
So many miles from home
Fighting here all for one
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
The bombs come down
The bullets fly by
We’re all on this wall
Ready to give our lives
Men will stand
And heroes will fall
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
The lucky ones
Get to come back home
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
Some new friends made
Some old ones gone
Never forget the price we paid
Make sure our memory lives on
Good men, laid to rest
The rest trying to, do our best
We go down in this song
We go down in this song
Tell us you love us all
Show us that you’re proud
As we go down in this song
We go down in this song
.
.
.
No, it won’t be long, now
Before we all go Home
Until then, we’ll go down in this song
We’ll go down . . . in this song

This was going to go in the First Line, Last Line but someone got to it before I was finished, so posting it here....the first line was someone elses.
adrift in the lands our minds wandered to
in the company of a select precious few
here for a sweet mid-day rendezvous
breaking away from the mundane
life's picture looks different in this frame
when there are no rules to the game
so just for a few minutes here and there
we do the things we never dared
our motivations starkly bared
when the trip comes to an end
we're where we always begin
wondering how to make things different

punkrockprinces, I really enjoyed your poem. I have been trying to come up with something worthy of following it. I have been super busy studying for my Qual exam for my masters. I have a couple things on the verge of being posted, but came across something on my old computer that I wrote awhile back. I think it is worth posting. Thanks again for your addition. I think you definitely 'let the emotions flow'. My favorite part is
For a man can always change his stars, But a girl is held captive within his arms
Full Count
A prospect in multiple ways,
Our union quite unexpected.
Together seemed rushed, or was I distracted?
So many things I wished,
Yet even more I seemed to miss.
Where was I looking, to be so oblivious?
Chalk it up, but not to love,
Not knowing to give it time.
Tardy love was, though inexperience and ignorance were mine.
Intelligent, dazzling,
Quirky, and unique
The best quality of all: making me feel at peace.
Feeling everything and nothing,
To view her truly, although it was for naught.
I had moved on; not knowing my heart would not
Three months behind
Failure trailed in my wake.
Try as I might, to correct erroneous ways.
A friendship rekindled,
The flame burned once again.
Only to be put out, by mighty Casey’s fatal wind.
Realization finally struck,
Who the victim had truly been.
For it was not me, but her, who had suffered more in the end.
I’d do it all again,
To change anything would be a curse.
Always remembered, because to forget would be even worse.
It comes down to this,
Three balls, two strikes: dare I swing again?
I’ll take a walk, happy it’s with a friend.

Inspired by upcoming Mother's Day and
Life is full enough of proof
Momma’s Cooking
The proof is in the pudding
But it will never set
If you don’t start with
The right ingredients
A little bit of nature
A whole lot of nurture
Sprinkle in some love
Now you’ve got the picture
If it were only that easy
Steps 1: 2: and 3.
But it takes more than water
To make this recipe
Honor, valor, charm,
Humbleness, integrity
Just a few of the things
You’ve instilled in me
Let others add to me
What they will
And enjoy what you prepared
A well-rounded meal

JB,
Quite lovely indeed. I can only offer the advice you passed to me. Keep your eyes open and your heart too. Love has a funny way of finding you.
This pen……….
………………...bleeds
It’s life for me
…
Sacrificing, willingly
So others may know
What it means to be
One who sees
The truth in things
……
Gives them all
A voice to sing
Making sure they’re heard
With clarity
………
A few words alone
Can be dismissed
But all together
Must be reckoned with
…………
If they speak to you
Don’t plead the fifth
Respond with emotions flowing
From that bottomless pit
……………

Hey jules,
You come to play on my page
so I thought I would return the favor today
reading the last two works...words of a mother's love
echoing sentiments my own has expressed to me
not always in words, but in her actions sure enough
molding me into a man i am proud to be
Although separated by many miles
We're never far from each other's touch
The best part about her laugh and smile
is I know all the paths to them, all the shortcuts
Soon she'll see me receive another degree
and I know she'll be crying...tears of joy
but I wouldn't be here without her you see
no matter where I am, I'll always be........her baby boy.

I will be reeled in
Brought home by that scent
In her arms my journey will end
Only in that place do I ascend
Reaching heights never seen before
Disbelieving something could be so pure
She’s successful in her ability to reassure
She is the one, mí amor

Letter to the World
To whom it may concern:
What I see is discerning
So much of my world burning
Will we never learn
A better future lies in peace
Brotherhood and harmony
Not in making others drop to their knees
And accept our policies and beliefs
Using religion so conveniently
Just when it seems to fit our need
Tell me who among us is fit to lead
Lead the world to prosperity
One who will embolden the meek
Giving them all a voice to speak
A guide to the destination we seek
Revealing our wonderlands aren’t so unique
So for those of you that refuse to sit idly by
Carry the torch and keep it burning bright
Illuminating the path to what is right
My regards,
A fellow keeper of the light

Jules -- Thanks again for your peotic comments. No worries, I'm a patient man. I know I'll find something good soon.
PSA (Public Service Announcement)
Crack, Sizzle, Pop
The words seem to flop
Out of my mouth in tandem
Seeming completely random
Like bacon in a pan they fry
In the awkward silence they die
As if talking to women wasn’t hard enough
This is your brain, this is your brain on love

Number Crunching
One
time I was in love
But it takes
Two
for it to be true
Three
times I confessed it
My heart couldn’t take number
Four
Five
seconds was enough to say goodbye
After
Six
years I sometimes still wonder what if
Seven
women since couldn’t hold a match to her
Hoping my luck will change with magic number
Eight
I don’t have
Nine
lives to get this thing right
She doesn’t have to be perfect, just a
Ten
in my eyes

Jules (and whomever else is reading),
Kind words received graciously
Humble the way momma raised me
Never liked having to write when it was prescribed
But had an affinity for it I couldn't hide
Relishing now the release it provides
Addicted to the journey inside
Glad I have company to the view
Whether it's many or just a select few
To all who've stopped by, "Thank you."

I saw some guy post the same 30+ line poem on 5 different threads today which I thought was pretty ridiculous. That inspired the first lines of this and it took off from there. Hope you enjoy.
Legend
Tired of regurgitated prose
That ceaselessly flows
From the mouths of everyday Joes
He’s inspired by birth of originality
Fed by sustenance of imagery
Growing towards immortality
What do they know of artistry
Overlooking imperfection’s beauty
Seduced by the siren’s melody
Seeking soul redemption
Forgiveness has no exemption
Delivered equally to kings and yeomen
The court jester is truly sovereign
Reigning laughter throughout the land
Beggars eagerly eating from his hand
A legend spread of man in his prime
When spoken ushering visions sublime
His name endures the erosive touch of time

Reaching back into the past
Our mind fills in the mist
The ghosts we’ve known
Love to roam, down
Memory Inn’s haunted halls
They persist
Tenants, with a never-ending lease
Irregularly beckoning for
The landlord’s maintenance
They loathe their residence
In the past tense
Seeking salvation
They take their host hostage
A victory short-lived
As the consciousness
Doesn’t negotiate with terrorists
Exiled once more
A prisoner on the subconscious floor
Waiting for the warden’s knock on their door

Sipping on a drink, chewing creamy caramels
Enjoying a little people watching, inhaling the fresh smells
The shadows creep along the sidewalk, as the clock tower repeatedly chimes its bells
Throwing a smile at passerbys, some afraid to catch it like a disease
I have heard it can be contagious, but I know not lethally
Sometimes a simple act of kindness can be what sets us free
A friendly face joins me, never seen it around here before
Her beauty and persona exuding, casting a tempting lure
Caught in a moment unsuspecting, effectively wanting more
Scintillating conversation, full of banter and witty remarks
I'm captivated by the light in her eyes, hardly noticing it getting dark
If this is the beginning of the rest of my life, couldn't have written a better start

This is a copy from my own thread, but thought it was appropriate to share in this thread.
Family song
How I hear it sung
From two thousand miles away
In a sweet lullaby’s hum
Missing loving faces
Hugs, kisses, and laughter
Pictures remind me of the times
When nothing else seemed to matter
Mother, Father,
Brother, Sister,
Cousins, Aunties, and Uncles
Grandparents passed,
But their legacy lasts
In a newborn’s eyes’ twinkle
Summer barbeques
With whiffle ball games
Ages from six to sixty
Playing as if they were the same
Good food and company
As we talk the hours away
Around a campfire we age
Reaching the start of another day
Summer, Winter,
Spring, Fall
The time seems to roll by
If I start to miss them too much
There’s always pictures and if that’s not enough
I can always hum that sweet lullaby

JB, thanks again. I keep them for myself, but never taken it too seriously. I am glad you enjoy them. I haven't written in awhile, as I'm stuck on a couple songs I'm working on, but here is a short ramble I came upon while riding the bus the other day.
What would you do
If I came on to you
Would you stay,
Or run away
Would it be enough
Just to feel my touch
Would it scare you off
Is it too much
If I may,
I’d like to say
Sweet-nothings in your ear
All the things
You want to hear
Maybe make you smile
For a little while
If you want some more
You know who to dial
I’ll be the man
To lay down his pride
No matter if it’s just tonight
Or my entire life
Not looking for a one-night stand
Or a wife
Let’s just take it slow
One step at a time
Would you care to dance
Then take my hand
We can go all night
Even without the band
When we leave the floor
I’ll leave you wanting more
Wanting me to hold you close
As we walk out the door

For the reason of impurity they played
As imperfection is the name of the game
Rising to their feet feeling less incomplete
Wondering if the other had felt the same
For reasons untold, lest the quiet be bold
A difference between one time and a lifetime
Daring to be a hero as the clock strikes zero
I'll hold your hand, if you'll only hold mine

Just lucky I guess
That about sums it up
Don’t know how else to describe
What happened today
Talking to you, sitting next to me
Been such a long time
Since I had last seen your face
On an unfamiliar road
Everything seemed just the same
Asking myself did that really just happen
Did I just run that light,
And split between traffic
Did my mom’s heart skip a beat
Halfway across the country
How can something be scarier
After it’s already happened
Hard to get my mind
Off of the topic
So I took a long nap
Then went for my daily run
I felt great, the best in a month
I probably could have done another ten
There was so much energy pent up
Such a small lapse in concentration
Almost took that luxury away
And everything else with it
Nothing would have been the same
Is it
Unscathed to the eye,
But scarred nonetheless
Still here to tell the tale
Just lucky I guess

My angel
Posted:

Liked what I have read so far in the thread. Thought I'd give it a shot.
My angel
The reason it’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday
Is cuz all the tomorrow’s will never be the same
And time’s the only thing that can take the pain away
Took you away
In the blink of an eye
There helplessly watching you die
Wishing it was I
The one burdened by fate
Slain by an ignorant hate
Killers free, still with a clean slate
My sense of justice, feeling it’s been raped
The innocence gone, only vengeance inside
Those motherf*****s had better run and hide
When and where I find em, they ain’t leavin’ alive
Proving yet again that hate begets hate
You won’t find forgiveness residing at my gate
Not today, not tomorrow, not any day
As the saying goes, “an eye for an eye”
Soon enough it will be your turn to die
She probably cries
From up on high
Knowing the hate I hold for you inside
Cuz you’re the ones that took her from me
You wouldn’t just settle for all our money
You saw what I had and you wanted a piece
Your wickedness,
Spreads like a disease
Only kept in check when I’m on my knees
And she talks to me
That’s the only thing saving you now
There’s some things my angel just won’t allow

In a lull
I’m becoming
Apathetic
To my own cause
Where will I end up next?
I don’t know,
But I do know
It’s not here
Where happiness
Rests.
Motivation lacking
Effort slacking
Need a catalyst
To put this body
In motion
Even if
The best results
Come
From self-persuasion
