Bill 16, the Traffic Safety Amendment Act
Posted: 10/17/2011 11:25:10 PM
I don't understand why this is necessary when we already have this covered under the Traffic Safety Act:
115(1) For the purposes of this section, a driver of a vehicle is
driving carelessly if that driver drives the vehicle
(a) without due care and attention, or
(b) without reasonable consideration for persons using the highway.
Pretty much covers it, no?

Just a question...how do you feel about the word Newfie?
Posted: 9/24/2011 1:58:40 PM
I'm originally from BC, but live now in Alberta.
I was under the impression the term "Newfie" meant the person was from Newfoundland or Labrador... and there is no negativity associated with it.
I know I'm not the only person who thought this. So if someones says "Newfie" they may not mean it as an insult.
BTW... what do the Easterners call people from BC or Alberta??? I'm scared to know!!! LOL

When did 'chat' become porn talk here?
Posted: 9/24/2011 10:56:45 AM
I find this mostly doesn't happen to me.
It happens.... but must of the people who IM me haven't engaged in this behaviour.
My frustration is they start talking and then disappear for an hour.

how many guys in their teens ACTUALLY got ot have sex with a MILF
Posted: 8/1/2011 11:52:41 PM
Gilf?
Are you kidding?
I'd think there are some quite young and young looking attractive grandma's out there, but not that you'd GUESS they're "grandma's" to the point of saying, "Hey! There's a GILF!"
I'd think if anything these women would get the "milf" comment.
GILF is taking it a little too far, IMO

Ways of motivating a teenager to find a job
Posted: 1/2/2011 1:22:21 PM
I agree with Myrqth and Carolann 110%
It seems he could comfortably live with what he's currently receiving. Want and need will be the biggest motivator by far. When what he receives falls short of covering his wants and his current resources are limited he will seek means to find money. It sounds like he's a good kid and more likely to resort to legal ways of making money.

Forcing Addicts into treatment

AARC is taking anyone these days. IF you can't pay $150/day for treatment, children's services will cover it. I saw one east indian family and one native canadian family at AARC, most though were like you say "white upperclass"

How far is this from town? I don't have full camping gear and am likely to drive in to get coffee in the morning, and live on sandwiches in the meantime. I'm thinking a thermos full of cold timmies isn't likely to cut it.
OE - Nevermind! I just read this and think I'll just bring my coffee & maker!!! Seriously addicted and can't survive without my coffee!
OK, so I just got word that Dazil has one of those big coffee maker urn thingy...so, coffee in the morning should not be an issue, plus, most of us has some other forms of making coffee on the cookstove, fire etc. I for one (and that is one of many), do not want to be hearing any generators first thing in the morning, so, kindly take your coffee pots to the cookhouse, where there is electricity if that is what you need.

Separated from kids
Posted: 5/30/2010 7:54:54 AM
Nadaba... you are assuming that my son is an addict. He's not, but if he were an addict and if I were co-dependent, I'd say I'd almost agree with what you posted.
I say almost because my son still ended up in a facility (AARC) that is modeled after it's parent program in the US (Kids of Bergen County) which has been sued and shut down for the very same types of violations and abuses that happen right now in Calgary.
You child is small. But even when she is 15 you will STILL look out for her best interests. Would you want your child diagnosed by non-professionals and treated for diabetes if she had cancer?
Seriously, being a parent who loves and protects their child is NOT the same as co-dependency.

Forcing Addicts into treatment
Posted: 5/30/2010 7:36:13 AM
A couple quotes from former AARC clients:
"Relax, someone is yanking your chain and feeding you a bunch of bull. The program is harmless, your local daycare uses behavior techniques which are much worse.
Again take a look at their success rate and their bottom line costs are much lower than any inpatient setting for the same time period of time. They have done very well with the kids who finish up at AARC."
and the response:
"I was in AARC with a couple of people with genuine psychiatric disorders, and they are crazy as ever today. I'm sorry, but humiliation and thought reform techniques just aren't a cure for schizophrenia. It makes me really sad when I think of how many clients in AARC had underlying issues that were ignored while AARC staff berated them for being "loser druggies." For a while after AARC they played along - probably even convinced themselves that AARC had cured them and saved their lives. But when they fell, they fell hard - and who wouldn't after having it drilled it into your brain that you'll die and will never feel happiness again unless you devote your life to a cult and do everything they've taught you. Putting a kid in AARC for a year when they have a serious mental health disorder is like putting an AIDS patient through chemo. It's brutal, and in the end, they'll still have a serious untreated condition. I'm pretty sure that my local daycare does not put kids in the "naughty dark room" for days, or tackle four-year-olds for "not getting honest." Give me a break. And let's be reasonable with this success rate - let's say 30% of clients feel AARC was a positive experience after five years. What do you think the chances are that a kid might grow up and stop partying ON THEIR OWN after five years? Studies have shown that at least 80% of problem drinkers grow out of it as they grow up and mature. But what AARC does, self-admittedly, is raise the bottom. They force kids to grow up a lot faster than they would, or should. Essentially, AARC "helps" some kids become stronger and more mature in the same way Ike helped Tina become a strong woman. And for the same reason I'm sure Tina doesn't send thank you cards to Ike at Christmas, I will never thank AARC for the positive things I've done with my life since I was in that prison. I can only imagine where I'd be today if I'd never realized what a scam AARC is. Judging by what I've seen from AARColytes, I'd most likely be working as a peer counselor, making fun of rape victims, and battling illiteracy."
http://www.fornits.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=27572
Staff at AARC are untrained recent graduates, parents or siblings of clients. Overnight supervision of current clients is provided by other current clients in the "host homes". Should abuse or problems arise, clients have no means to report or obtain assistance.

we are seriously considering just bringin the therapist to the campout to set up a booth , if we split the cost it won't cost us all as much for the after campout therapy !
We? If you split the cost between personalities, you still end up paying the whole shot yourself.

girlfriends of widowers
Posted: 4/5/2010 6:56:55 AM
Sorry for the double post. But I wanted to add before anyone jumped on me that I have "single" as my status because even tho we were together for 10 years and had 2 children, my partner and I were never married. I have always been "single" legally. At one point I had "widowed" as my status... and people jumped on me for that because I was never legally married.
There's no pleasing everyone in the pond!!!
OE -
Unfortunately, in both of my experiences, I felt like I would forever be walking in the shoes of a saint ... those are some big shoes to fill.
I think many people who date a widow/widower feel this way. If these feelings are justified the widow/widower is just not ready to date someone else, I would like to know what happened to make you feel that you needed to "fill the shoes" of the lost partner.
If the widow/widower has effectively dealt with their grief, moved on to a point in their life where they are ready, able and wanting a new relationship, then this feeling of somehow having to compete with this person who no longer exists is the problem of the OTHER person, not the widow/widower.
As someone who lost someone this belief is the hardest part for me to deal with.
It's impossible to take the place of a deceased partner. We don't expect or want someone to replace the person we lost. A new relationship is a NEW relationship, not a replacement for a lost relationship.
I think widows/widowers really get the bum deal sometimes because OTHER people can't cope with their loss, not because THEY can't cope with their loss.

girlfriends of widowers
Posted: 4/5/2010 6:53:41 AM
"Widows/widowers act the way they do because people allow them to". Give me a break. PEOPLE act the way they do and sometimes we allow it, sometimes we don't.
My take on the original post is that some people are close and then pull back and it doesn't much matter whether they are divorced, widowed, separated or single. One thing I have learned is not to generalize or put people in little boxes.
Thank you SOO much Rusty! I am almost scared to tell people I lost a partner, because everyone seems to have this preconceived notion about widows/widowers.
People walked on egg shells around them & treated them special. Having a dead spouse gave them the right to do & say what they wanted. Everyone of them claimed they had a wonderful relationship & had lost their soul mate. Bull Sheat! Just about everyone said they tell each person they meet about their spouse passing away. They do this in case they do something inappropriate the other person will be sympathetic & be understanding because they have lost someone special. Bull Sheat again! They were furious when I told them they were a bunch of why me cry baby looney toons.
People do treat widows/widowers differently & do assume too much. I almost never tell a new guy I am a widow. I have found they immediately pity me & I start getting treated like a broken china doll. YUK!
I think men and women get scared when they meet someone who lost a partner. It very much bothers me if people assume I expect to be treated differently, deserve/expect pity or they think they need to walk on eggshells around me or that I need/feel entitled to special treatment because a past partner is no longer around.
I lost my partner 14 years ago. I've moved on, I really have moved on. I've had other serious relationships SINCE this time.
I'm not a china doll, I don't need to be treated any differently than any other single person out there in the dating world.
I really wish people would NOT generalize and put people in to little boxes.... sooo... sooo true!!!!!

Interesting and about time.
Posted: 3/26/2010 11:00:39 PM
I've witnessed a few times with different families from around here that when their kids reach an age that they can "fend for themselves", it's easier for the parents to give them 500 bucks and say "see you in 2 weeks".
I can fend for myself. Are these different families accepting applications?
OT
- There's only so much a parent can do... if you don't have kids, think back to when YOU were 15... did your parents know what you were doing 24/7? I didn't think so.
- Girls often look much older using hair/make-up/clothing ... look at some of the top models out there with and without make-up!
- The guy was trying to hook up with younger chicks... and it backfired! Big time!

If they won't date a guy without a car, they are pretty shallow!
No job, no car. Am I shallow if I don't want to pay for everything AND pick him up/drive home/ drive around???
I've met guys that have a job, no car, and expected me to pick them up, and were actually offended that I didn't want to since I "have a car and everything".
If they don't have a car, they need to be prepared to have alternate forms of transportation because being the "taxi date" will get old really fast.

Songs that reflect YOU to the opposite sex
Posted: 3/16/2010 2:51:12 AM
I love this song... It perfectly describes that butterflies feeling of infatuation
Longo & Wainwright - One Life Stand
When i see you, I get blown away
Something inside me is taking over
I start st-stuttering; can’t find the words to say
I feel the opposite of sober
It’s what you do to me
Got me saying yeah, yeah, yeah
It’s like I’m in a dream
And when I wake up I know that you’re still here with me
All I ever wanted was a one life stand
I could spend forever in a moment like this
All I ever wanted was a one life stand
So take me away
Ooooh
we got one life, we got one heart
Oooh
I’m so in this, I can touch the sky
It’s like we’re on a rollercoaster
My body’s aching
And you’re the reason why
Why don’t you come a little closer

AND THE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS!!!
While you are at it, flip the mattress, clean the windows inside and out, and while the oven cleaner is working, clean the refrigerator including vacuuming the back.
After that, clean the drain traps in your sinks and let's not forget dusting those corners in the house that seem to attract cobwebs.
If you have some time, please polish your shoes and ensure the nylons in your drawers have no runs in them.

How to impress

And lastly, why does every nice jesture have to cost money?? I'd rather something nice put on paper rather than flowers (for example) that end up dying. There's tons of things that are signs of affection that cost nothing.
Yeah... like foot massages!

the best is the scanned pics women put up of themselves and a guy.... but the guy's face is violently scratched off with a knife or other sharp instrument. haha. makes me wonder if they ever found the body.
Sandblasted on the beach and taken out with the tide ...
Why not just photochop Albert Einstein's face into the pic? A little more creative than scratched out.

Sorry for the double post on double standards, but in reference to this
Ensure that across the board, the fine for drunk driving and cocaine possession is a 500$ fine and $500 charity donation for all Canadians....
Ensure the $500 is going to accredited facilities or programs that use scientific based best practices.
