Worried I've blown it with a phone call!
Posted: 8/9/2012 3:47:41 PM
I can’t see any harm in sending her a quick text just to confirm the details and check that they fit for her, try not to worry about it too much chances are that when you meet up that the conversation will flow naturally, talking on the phone is different because you are missing all the nonverbal communication we normally have. Strikes me that part of online dating is managing your own expectations you may have lots in common but you can’t expect your date to go as if you have known each other for years, there are going to be the odd awkward moment.

Do the media forget developing countries?
Posted: 7/24/2012 4:24:59 AM
The media report what they think the public want, if we stopped buy it they would stop reporting it, and its a sad fact that most people in this country don't care much about news worthy stories.

You are living in a age where it is possible to find this stuff out for yourself (otherwise we still wouldn't know about it) and not relie on mass media, because they are only going to appeal to the masses.

Try the World Service, not great but better at reporting issues and discussing stories that would never make it on other media.

Profile Review Please
Posted: 6/10/2012 10:36:17 AM
15 views and no replies is because the only sensible advice is get a photo, nothing partially bad about your profile but then nothing good either, it looks like 90% of the women out there, which is fine women don't need a good profile to same extent.
But without a photo no one is even going to look, if you really don’t want to put a photo up (and I really doubt it is going to matter, plenty of teachers myself included put photos on) the only way this will work for you is if you approach the male profiles that you are interested in, frankly I think women are better off doing that anyway, but in this case people are not likely to contact you based on your profile.

Time taken up by Masters Degree
Posted: 5/29/2012 1:37:07 PM
Depends on the course and subject, and most importantly you. Most are a one year course, you are looking at 4 days a week on average but variable. I didn’t have much trouble with a part time job while I did my masters and taking a bit of extra time off to complete dissertation. But I would say it would be harder to do the course part time and work full time.

Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
Posted: 5/16/2012 6:58:37 AM
Yes it tends to take longer and require more biscuits than when they were a puppy.

People retain the ability to learn new skills a lot better, languages are one of the few things that you can’t completely learn at a later stage, pretty much anything else can be, might be harder and take longer but most people can.

Have you ever called someone the wrong name?
Posted: 5/10/2012 4:31:02 PM
I get my students names wrong fairly frequently, but I am normally fairly close, I expect I get other people names wrong without noticing.

What would we really like?

Cup of tea and a piece of cake, in a date someone that looks like they could hold an interesting conversation.

9 million for a book!!!
Posted: 4/19/2012 4:35:34 AM
They are a Library they are going to spend their money on books, not on health care or education or anything else, so the question can only be is it good value or should they have spent it on other books or buildings to store books.
If your answer is anything else you should be questioning how they have the money not how they spend it.

That statement refers to the helicopter pilot not the jet pilot, just the way that it has been posted.

the smell of fear
Posted: 3/4/2012 3:20:32 PM
Studies in this area have shown smell to be quite complex, it is not as straight forward as nice smells attract, but to get any results you have to remove any other factors, it’s pretty low down on the scale, looks are way more important etc.

There has been no chemical identified as a pheromone there may be one or more but no one has isolated one to date.

not above size 12
Posted: 2/29/2012 2:27:07 PM
Most women put in a height requirement, which is daft, man putting in a size requirement is only marginally more sensible as it some indication about lifestyle, but with 3 major flaws;
It’s not on the profile, sizes are not fixed depends on stores, very few guys can tell what size a women is anyway.

The mass mailing approach
Posted: 2/29/2012 2:11:27 PM
Cut and paste or tailored it seems the average guy has very little chance of getting a reply, and while I would suggest tailoring your emails most profiles are so generic that it might as well be cut and paste.
