What are your beliefs and what do they mean to you?
Posted: 1/25/2006 4:11:15 PM
Before posting my religious understanding, I have read everyone elses.

I am somewhat unique, I was raised Jehovahs Witness, but that religion did not help me to understand myself. Presently I am reading on pagan religions, and have learned more about myself in the last 5 years. Im nearly 31, andthe previous 26 years I knew nothing about myself other than I was not like my peers.

Now to have an understanding on why I have dreams about something and then have that same situation happen in life is far nicer.

Or when I get a clear image in my head out of the blue (or a very clear thought) and to know that it is a warning to be heeded and shared. No, I do not know when person is going to die. What I get could be something so out of the blue, one time I had been chatting with a guy online for the very 1st time. The impression I picked up was like someone told me heads up, and it was work related. I told the guy about it in a way directing it at me. He told me that friend of his had told him a similar warning a few days before.

I am nature oriented as well, and I have read a lot on herbal healing. So learning about pagan beliefs feels right.

The wiccan rede also has a good point:
Eight words in the Wiccan Rede fullfill
And harm ye none, do what ye will.

What is a witch?

Well, with everyone being open minded and having their own views/definitions, I am sharing a link that covers a lot of different pagan aspects/views.

It is a library of information (have yet to read everything in there) that seems to have more information added on a regular basis.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm

All I can suggest is that people look at the site and make their own decisions.

Part of what you posted "YET again....a few years back while walking with the dogs we came across the bodys of 10 Deer heaped one on top of the other with only the Hind quarters gone."

I find that as a total waste. My family eat all the meat off of the deer. Some of it is ground up into burger, but mix it with some beef and you have some fairly good burgers for the grill.

Well, my family eat all the meat but the tongue.

I have even found information printed for tanning hides. One tribe of Native Americans used the brains of the deer/elk to tan the hide. The process is labor intensive, but more environmently friendly than the modern methods which uses toxic chemicals.

I have even read some info on how pamican is made (probably using the wrong word here), where buffalo meat, fat and dried berries were ground together and dried. I do not have the actual directions on how to make that stuff, but dried meat strips (venison jerky) do keep for a long time after being cured in a salt solution before drying.

Actually, I just had a thought. Those stacked up deer may have been poached. Hunting regulations usually require that the hunter put all the meat to use. Was a way to deter Trophy hunters from just taking the head and hide for mounting perposes. The next time you happen to see something like that, report it.

Well, enough on the dead pile of deer.

Be well

I know a few wiccans/witches/pagans (not all call themselves witch) who like their meat very much. I too like my meat, venison in particular. I also have an affinity for nature. Harmony can be achieved in many ways, we each just find our different ways.

On what you mentioned:

As a matter of fact when I was looking for a good definition I came across a site talking about being a Christian Witch or a Pagan/Christian. But I felt if I used that in here it would have caused arguements instead of a good discussion and I would be blamed for starting a Flame thread.

I know of an author who started out christian, became pagan, and is now leaning towards being a pagan christian.

The author is Carl McColman (wrote Idiots Guide to Paganism)
http://www.carlmccolman.com

He wrote other books and upon reading his latest blog, has started a new book. About the only thing I can say about the author, he is on an ever changing spiritual journey. May his journey be well illuminated.

SeriouslyFunnyLady,

There is another goddess associated with water. Also a part of the maid/mother/crone aspect.

On the Firefly subject, since it is a space related series and (from my understanding) the name of the ship, I would gravitate towards it.

But who can tell what a show is about by only watching commercials or just one episode?

This does go along with the thread, tho a little off center. When did Dungeons & Dragons come out? The reason I mentions this is due to the correlation of really good books that get read also end up being the backdrops for RPG.

Lewis and Tolkien's books were published because they were good reading, not because they were Christians. In fact, The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings was not an overnight success. I think the Hobbit was published in 1939 and the LOR in the 50s. It was only when American college students discovered them in the mid-60s did the phenomenon begin.

Narnia - Publisher messed up the order
Posted: 12/19/2005 11:18:37 AM
I thought the Magicians Nephew was before the Lion one. I mean, the nephew and female friend (been nearly 20 yrs since I read the series) found Narnia after rescueing the Witch with the aid of magic rings.

The original sequence is:

1 - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (incorrectly labeled #2)
2 - Prince Caspian (incorrectly labeled #4)
3 - Voyage of the Dawn Trader (incorrectly labeled #5)
4 - The Silver Chair (incorrectly labeled #6)
5 - The Horse and His Boy (incorrectly labeled #3)
6 - The Magician's Nephew (incorrectly labeled #1)
7 - The Last Battle (ok, they got ONE right)

I saw the Narnia movie on Sunday 12/11/2005.

I give it 2 thumbs up (too bad humans only have 2 thumbs).

Here is a thought, I give it 8 fingers up, more than 2 thumbs.

queenbrunette -- would this work for about me?
Posted: 12/3/2005 6:14:06 PM
Going for meds that are suppose to help with anxiety or depression scare me more. They are chemical compounds with some serious side effects.

Being a reader of books, I have read a lot on herbal medicine. Side effects are far fewer when the medicine is still in the natural form. Granted, it may take more of one thing to do what one pill does, but concentrated medicines just scare me. Antibiotics are about the only thing I am comfortable with and I try not to see a doctor unless I miss 3 days of work to begin with.

Also, on how a person views themselves can also be affected by how they were raised. My mother taught my sister and I at not wanting to be physically attractive. Due to genetics, I am a more solid person while my sister was skinny (she finally put on some weight in her hips). My mother was more worried about my sister possibly being attacked and raped than she was about me. So, I do have some negative views of myself, but as long as a person doesn't mention my body parts or how beautiful I look to them, I am okay. If they mention something that struck them as being similar like a game they played (i.e. RPG's), then they are touching on what I know and that is where I have a positive view about myself.

Other than that, I can be an interesting person around the right person and a total bore around others.

queenbrunette -- would this work for about me?

About me? That is the hardest part no matter what. Whether I set up these profiles or go to a job interview, talking about myself is not easy.

I have very few friends, I tend to be a bit of a social hermit. When exposed to groups of people I don't know, I find a corner to shelter myself in. Large religious functions just make me uncomfortable, and some work related functions. If I end up in a restuarant or bar packed with people, I feel closed in and end up leaving so i can breath easier.

See, I could put in that information, but who would read my profile further. Book stores in Spokane are not too crowded, and I know a few other stores that don't get packed.

The last fun meet up I had with a guy was back in January of this year. Due to circumstances, a good friend of his (and the guys wife) were heading in that Friday. I met the guy at a coffee shop (an item mentioned in his profile for a date) and we ended up walking to a book store (an item mentioned in my profile for a date). Then after his friend came back well all 4 ate at a restaurant and I paid for my own meal. Afterwards, we ended up at a bar for some karaoke (something I had not done before). I had fun that night. Due to where I was living at the time I was able to leave my car home and take the public bus to meet the guy at the coffee shop. They ended up dropping me off at my place. Needless to say, the guy was ready to kiss at the end and Im not a kiss on the 1st date person. He had to leave me with a kiss on the cheek and a hug (nice hug too). It took a couple more minutes for the rest of the evening to sink in and I sent him a message before he even got home. I told him that I actually had fun, my reactions are just a tad delayed. The following week I went out to him, and then I was more open for the kisses too. The 3rd week of knowing him I made a 16 yr old mistake and that killed it.

Basically 30 at the time and I don't know how to date. Then again, I didn't even start dating until I was 26. So, not many guys interest me on the whole.

Not sure about the profile rater, but I have a few thoughts on your profile.

The quote concerning the lion and the mouse, I would rather be a mouse. That way I could get into anything I wanted before people realized I was there. A lion has no way to do that when it comes to houses.

On the dancing slow, does that mean you know how to waltz?

What type of books do you read? Would you read poems out loud? or Shakespeare?

I have been told there are "plenty of fish" in the sea. Good thing I like to go fishing periodically. Normally I keep it local.

I am sure glad you have not been critiquing spelling errors.

getting good pictures of myself is not easy. I do have one with a genuine smile on it, just not the best picture to use since I was bent towards the floor putting something down. I have tried to take pictures of myself, but the smiles look forced and with the light in my eyes I tend to close them.

Any suggestions?

What is UC Riverside? Other than that yours is really to the point.
Not many Drive-in Theatres are operating now, where in California is the one you like? The last one I was at, is in Libby Montana. It closed after I moved away.

I just added a new pic and deleted a couple older one. the lighting is still too much.

I had also used PSP (Paint Shop Pro) to crop the picture to basically include me and a few of my plants. or else it would be a picture showing mostly the wall of the house and a window. I tried to correct the lighting with the PSP program but it didn't work that way. I also look like Im squinting again, had the sun in my eyes. I am still trying to get some good pics.

okay, I know the basics about chess. But, send that to me and I too would be lost on it.

Now, Battleship is another thing. One time my sister and I were playing and she called out I-1. What I heard was I won. That took about ten minutes to figure out.

Hello,

I have updated my profile since January (correcting typos and making sentences clearer). I don't seem to be getting too many guys who are interested.

so what am I missing when Im being honest and I don't go around with every guy I meet. I tend to be drawn towards the intellectual ones (such as computer geeks)

Also, I have a problem with guys who make a lot of money. I worry that they may think I want them for their money and I don't. Hence I have proclaimed my financial independance. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a guy making more money than me, I just don't want a guy who thinks he has to buy me things for my love. When I meet the right guy I get smitten by them and they could be totally broke. (Already done that in January when one guy from here sent me a message due to my profile, and I still chat with him)

I have probably scared them all away from me since I want a guy who is totally honest. I don't take kindly to being lied to.

Many thanks
Queenbrunette
