moving in after 3 days...can it really succeed?

I do understand your desire to help her see the light, but as the others said, that never works. She will just end up resenting you because you don't like/accept him and their situation. It sucks to sit back and watch it crumble while in the meantime watching her hurt, but there's nothing else you can do....
As for the idea itself; it's a bomb waiting to explode. I was in her (according to you) exact situation complete with self esteem issues and the rescue complex. My ex moved in and after the novelty wore off he began sponging off of me, taking my car out and drinking. He quit his job to devote his time to his band and I let it happen. People told me the same thing you are trying to tell her and I told them all to go to hell. Well I ended up in hell for the next 3 years!
This may be a different situation but I fear the results will be the same. Just be there for her when she needs you, don't judge and don't criticize. What happens will happen and just pray for the best because that is all you can do

Movie: The Life of Pi
Posted: 5/10/2013 6:15:37 AM
It won 4 Oscars so I was considering seeing it. It's like Castaway which I didn't like. I tend to get bored with movies like that.
Also, I read for entertaiment and thought provoking themes, but when I go to the movies I like to enjoy myself and not have to think so much. I rented Inception (a friend said it was "THE BEST") and it was so complicated I hated it!
I also don't go to the movies to be bummed out either. I saw City of Angels and was furious!!
Someone involved with the movie said "It WILL make you believe in God" and that pissed me off. How could he know what we would or wouldn't believe after the movie??
I guess everyone will take away something different from the film, but I personally will not be taking away anything because I won't be watching it...

You mean it's free to take these attractive women out? Where do you go? Now that's a cheap date, lol. J/K

Karma / Reap What We Sow
Posted: 5/2/2013 6:05:32 AM
What bothers me is when someone does good deeds for others they are doing so expecting either accolades or something good to happen back to them. When a person does good for altruistic reasons, I believe that is a heart felt good as it seems the other is just an empty gesture...
So is the title of this post another form of "What goes around comes around"?
I'm not sure I believe wholly that those ideas are true, but in one important case, it seemed very appropriate:
My ex started a business with his best friend and my father's backing. He left me, for another woman about a year into it. He was awful to me after that, saying things like "When we start making millions I'll be done with her forever"
Well he became distracted with his girlfriend, didn't work, didn't help, so his friend and my father decided to "fire" him.
In the last year or so the company IS making millions and I own stock in it, so I'm the one who is reaping the rewards!
I guess that the saying applies here? It doesn't matter either way because I'm doing well and I deserve it...

Bichon-poo or Shitzu?
Posted: 3/15/2013 6:13:30 AM
Stray Cat you are funny!! I actually got the bichon-poo and he's cute as a button but driving me insane!! That's why I haven't been on here for awhile. He needs some serious training *sigh* I guess I'm spoiled because my other pets are perfect and SO easy. Come to think of it my kids are pretty easy too, lol....I'm a little too old to be taking care of another child but maybe with some help we can make it through the tough stages. I know, I know; I asked for it : )
On a side note, if they bred a shitzu and a poodle would that make it a shitz-poo? That would be HILARIOUS!!

girls with guy friends?
Posted: 3/4/2013 7:35:54 AM
True friends step back a bit to give you a chance for your relationships to grow
If the S.O. is worth hanging on to then they shouldn't expect her/him to choose with whom she/he can spend their time. I admit it takes a secure person to accept that arrangement but if it's worth it, feel free to make your position clear...Afterall, what's the old adage - "Bro's before ho's"? LOL, should work both ways....

Unfortunately they won't tell you why his profile was deleted, and all information, including emails is now gone. Everyone on here has a story or two of woe but you just have to keep trying (if you choose to). Just keep your radar sharp and go with your instincts! I know it's harder for us "older" women to get back out there but it is what it is. You can make the most of it or find another way to meet men...
Good luck!

On one hand it saves the tax payer money
I thought that too at one time but it turns out that it actually costs us MORE than keeping them in prison.
Death penalty costs more than life in prison
by Zac Bissonnette , Mar 9th 2009 11:30AM
One of the most common arguments you'll hear in favor of the death penalty -- other than the somewhat barbaric "eye for an eye" one -- is the notion that it saves money.
Recent research shows that it's actually less expensive to incarcerate someone for life than it is to execute them. Lengthy appeals and red tape designed to assure that the utmost caution is taken before ending a life drag the pre-execution process on for decades -- and millions in legal fees.

Let's be realistic about his and your mother's age; she had you when she was 19 so that is atypical and not necessarily a good gauge. But if you were uncomfortable, you were right in expressing that

No, I don't. I think it was altruistic, at least at first. He went through it all and wanted to help others. Why is that so hard to accept? You make him sound like a man with absolutely no conscience or redeeming qualitites at all. Ooh, maybe he fabricated his cancer too so he could stick it to the public??

Vox: I was hesitant to tell my story but I might as well....
I met a guy, from a dating site (not this one, lol) and he told me about being in prison for some things when he was 18 or 19 but he had done his time and gone "straight". I thought it was admirable (though my family did not and was suspicious) so I gave him the benefit. So I hired him to do work around the house and he was amazing! Got soo much done and really earned his money...The day after Christmas I couldn't get a hold of him then two days later he sent me this cryptic text saying he was on the run and couldn't contact me for a while.
Well it turns out he had robbed his aunt's store, took off, drove drunk and high and "outran" the police. Turns out, because of the variety of charges, he is now spending the next 4 years in prison again....He has tried to reach out to me but not a chance! Three strikes may be the prison way but for me, once is enough.

The cancer charity was little more than a charade to enhance his image.
Really?? You might want to check out this article, and it's NOT by the foundation but Forbes magazine
http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2012/08/24/why-lance-armstrong-still-matters/
You don't think that because of his cancer survival story and his celebrity that he helped with all of this? Maybe he was a "figurehead" near the end but when he started it HE started it!

I suppose it's akin to the King of England. Really just a name and a figurehead not having much "authority" as Parliament is really the authority there.

An American or Canadian pope?

Well here is the thought about non-European contenders:
Some analysts say Benedict’s resignation presents an opportunity to turn to Africa or Latin America, where Catholicism is more vibrant.
“Europe today is going through a period of cultural tiredness, exhaustion, which is reflected in the way Christianity is lived,” said Monsignor Antonio Marto, the bishop of Fatima in central Portugal.
“You don’t see that in Africa or Latin America, where there is a freshness, an enthusiasm about living the faith.
“Perhaps we need a pope who can look beyond Europe and bring to the entire church a certain vitality that is seen on other continents.
http://manilastandardtoday.com/2013/02/13/no-clear-top-pick-to-succeed-pope/
I'm not sure what an African or Latino pope can do for his own country because I'm admittedly igorant of his job, but I agree it would be nice if changes could be made especially for the poorer countries. They have obviously lived those situations and have a better grasp on what they need, but I hope it will not be to the exclusion of the rest of the world.

Are we wannabe councilors or just really bored
Posted: 2/16/2013 9:23:50 AM
I'm confused. Do you mean "counselors" (therapists), "counselors" (lawyers), or just us good ole' forumites that sometimes play both?
My sister is a family therapist and dervives instense satisfaction from helping families stay together and live peacefully...I don't know any lawyers personally and I don't trust them anyway....
Like some others said, it's nice to be able to listen and help out others on here if we have either been in their situation or know something about their issues. Some just like to "hear" themselves talk and have nothing of substance to offer. A select few have amazing insight, compassion and the ability to help (and have helped me) and I can't name names, but they know who they are. And then there are the common who sit here day after day patrolling the forums and run to admin and snitch about any and all infractions great and small. Again, can't name names but they know who they are and if you read the forum violations thread, you see the pattern.
Sometimes (personally) it's good for my ego when I can help but most often I do it for altruistic reasons. I'm not completely sure they are mutually exclusive though. But that's just my 2 cents which is usually worth just that : ^ P

Why do people glorify the Mafia?
Posted: 2/16/2013 9:04:13 AM
I think there may also be some confusion between "the mob/mafia" and gangs, which are completely different...First of all with gangs there is some heirarchy but no "code of ethics" and you have to be initiated into it, usually in some horrific manner (not like fraternities, lol) and they start as young as pre-teens. With the mafia you are born into it, but in some very isolated situations, "adopted". The only thing they have in common is the only way out is to die.
Russ is right in that the movies exagerate (and sometimes just completely make it up) not unlike law enforcement and military movies.
I remember I used to think the special ops/black ops/special forces and soldiers in combat, were really cool and admirable. The reality is, no one really knows what they do and how often they have to kill ppl, but I can say with almost certainty, THEY don't think it's cool or admirable. They're just doing their job and sometimes killing is part of it. I can't imagine taking another person's life (justified or not) is something they (some) are proud of or don't have a hard time living with...

Posted: 2/15/2013 4:38:27 PM
Also, they are known for killing there own for little to no reason at all.
I'm not glorifying or justifying but this is just not true. They are very protective of their own, especially the women and children. The only reason they would "take out" one of their own would be if they turned on the family, snitched, informed, whatever you call it, or stole from them.
Don't ask me how I know this *wink*
The movies make any criminals (or any other cult's for that matter) seem appealing or popular. Remember the movie "Natural Born Killers"? They were celebrities in their own rights. It's just a thing, I don't think ppl romanticize it in reality.

Marriage based on lust?
Posted: 2/15/2013 5:23:36 AM
A friend of mine is still in his marriage primarily for the fact that his wife has a pre-existing medical condition and she needs his health insurance until she can get her own...They still care about each other and have sex from time to time but they are more like friends than a married couple. She is a flight attendant and is gone for long periods of time. They just grew apart and the romantic love just wasn't there.
They have no kids together so there is no reason for a divorce right now (I know, it seems like it should be the other way around) When she is around they co-exist peacefully and have sex when the need arises.
So if you have good sex life at least, i dont think all hope is gone
I disagree, that is only a small part of a strong relationship.
My marriage fell apart for reasons that had nothing to do with sex, but we fought all the time and he stopped being nice to me so I didn't want to be intimate with him because the intimacy (the whole thing not just sex) was gone....

Is what kind of fan you are, in part a gender issue?
Posted: 2/12/2013 2:11:52 PM
That's one of my all time favorite movies! I actually met Rudy when I bought the real picture of him being carried off the field. He autographed it for my dad's 60th birthday present. He's a really good guy too....I think all movies allow for some artistic "changes" from time to time. I'm not sure any sports movies are exactly like the real thing.
There was another thread about sports heros and how they are in real life vs their "persona". It's hard being "on" all the time...Some are tempermental, spoiled and entitled but hide it well while others are truly great but are portrayed as jerks.
On the surface you'd think Michael Jordan would be a great guy who thanks his blessings for his talent and fan base but I hear he is a real ass and yep, entitled....Derek Jeter is one of the real sports icons who has stayed above board and is a genuinely good guy, but because of the team he's on, some ppl just makes assumptions.
I was huge into baseball when I was 13-14 and played softball. My dad would take me to see the Yanks and the Orioles and I gotta say that Cal Ripkin Jr. was one classy guy. He always signed autographs even when the game was long over. My favorite Yankees back then were Reggie Jackson and Bucky Dent. Niether of them could be bothered and that really upset me as a young, impressionable athlete.
One of my fondest memories was after the Orioles played the Rangers, and I had my baseball ready to be signed when along came this gorgeous, blonde Ranger (totally forgot his name) who took the ball and asked me to hold his beer!! I thought I would fall over dead, lol.
So to bring this back around to the OT, I've always been an emotional fan whether it's during games or meeting the players. I've been pretty lucky and met some great guys but when Bucky Dent and Reggie Jackson blew me off, well that's something I will never forget....

I didn't know about the small dog resue places! I remember there was a Chessie resue league in Savannah where we had to take our insane dog, lol. There are also many places that take Greyhounds after they've been exploited from those horrible race tracks!
I will look at those sites today, thank you!

justmytypewriter: I have to say that the issue of buy vs adopt has weighed heavily on my mind. I have had 6 animals in my life and they have ALL been rescue/adoptions/shelter animals. The only one my ex and I bought from a breeder turned out to be a crazy dog with serious mental and emotional issues. We had to give him to a rescue league because he was dangerous and we knew we would be starting a family and he definitely wouldn't be a good match for us.
My kids and I have scoured the rescue sites, been to numerous open adoptions at the pet stores and visited the shelters in our town. Fact is last time I was there we adopted a cat who is the sweetest cat ever! The population of small breed puppies was almost nil because everyone wants a small dog it seems. The only ones we found were chihuahuas and they are definitely too small (or too old) for our household.
We just felt that this time knowing the history/background of the breeder/breed and raising them from a puppy would be the best way to go since it will really be my kid's dog and they will be responsible for him.
I guess it will just be a matter of seeing which dog fits us better. I still have a lot of questions and if either of the puppies gets taken before they are answered, then that's the way it should be...

Strange: I didn't mention hockey because I was on the subject of football...I have been a Caps fan since the early 90's and I agree completely that Ovechkin is a douchebag, albeit an immensely gifted one, but still...
The day I went sour on him was when he was talking about how his brother was killed by a drunk driver, and says he is rabid about that issue, yet flies around in his Mercedes SL65 on the streets of Arlington after a typical night bar hopping.
Hypocrites make me sick to my stomach....
It seems like more and more there are less and less of the guys like Montana and the others that love the game and live it for the fans as much as for the team and themselves, rather than the glory, fame and money whores.
It's definitely disheartening and that's where my emotions come into play. I know it's a job and the money's the trick but maybe some of them don't have to be so blatently obsessed with it or at least they should hide it better...

At this point I'm not sure if their nationality really has anything to do with the "job" as long as they speak Italian, lol....But Import is right, I tried to find out what they really do and it's ambiguous at best. It's something along the lines of praying for and with the masses, giving blessings blah blah blah, but really he is just a figurehead (or a talking head) for the whole of the Catholic church....
But here's something else; according to the majority of all things holy, he is the closest person to God in the world. One website said he is like the vice president to the president, ha! So why is he so infirm he can no longer do his job? Why doesn't God just heal him if he's so important?? Of course I know the answer to that but how does the church reconcile that with the masses?
And as far as scandals go, I wonder how it's changed from the time of the Borgias, or maybe it's just better kept under wraps. Now that show I not only find more fascinating but a whole lot more realistic!

Bichon-poo or Shitzu?
Posted: 2/11/2013 11:48:51 AM
Well I have to admit I am really spoiled with my dog Rocky. He was a rescue dog and somewhere between a shepherd and a smaller type, maybe a Shiba or a terrier? Anyway, he is a breeze to take care of. Even though his hair is about medium length, he only goes through his molting stage twice a year. It takes a lot of patience, and a lot of shopping bags, but once it's done, it lasts....
He's also perfectly behaved and sooo sweet! The gender of the new pup would be in question too. I thought a female was better so there were no domination issues between her and Rocky, but the owner says often females are more uppity and dominant no matter their size.
I think it all comes down to how well they are trained, socialized and loved. It's not terribly different from a baby. However I did think at my age the getting up every 3 hours and potty training was over, LOL

Bichon-poo or Shitzu?
Posted: 2/11/2013 10:22:23 AM
It's funny Jenny, the shih tzu puppy has shortish hair and you can see her eyes, but I went online and saw pictures of older ones and their hair is ridiculously long and you have to constantly trim around the eyes to see them! Sounds a little more high maintenance than I need, lol...I realize the bichon-poo also has a furry face but overall I think it would take less time and maintenance (provided going to the groomer) than the long hair the shih tzu has. The other things are the flat face on the shih tzu is not as cute as the longer muzzle of the other and the shih tzu is black and white (her bottom is white and even after a bath I noticed it was yellowing) but the other is black with just a hint of white on his chest...
The bottom line is I really prefer the bichon-poo but my daughter is totally in love with the shih tzu. My son is the tie breaker and adores the bichon-poo as well....I just need to approach it logically and tell her the pros and cons. I know it is ultimately my decision but I want everyone to be happy!
I guess when I go in tomorrow I will let the fates decide. Either one of them could have been adopted so I guess we'll see. And yes, I will definitely be back to let you all know!

Although I am not Catholic and only ambigously religious, I never thought I would live to see 2 popes elected!
However I feel about organized religion, it is a very interesting process what with the secret conclave locked away, the black smoke vs the white, etc. It's all very Dan Brown, lol.
But anyway, I read online that 2 of the possible replacements are from Canada and New York! I'm not sure of their qualifications but I do know that there has never even been an American pope nominated! Of course the general population doesn't think they need a pope from a "superpower" although I have no idea what that has to do with anything.
What do you all think of that? What do you friends up North think about a Canadian pope?

Bichon-poo or Shitzu?
Posted: 2/11/2013 8:42:50 AM
Aris is right, the term "hypoallergenic" is a misnomer. The dog we are talking about shed less therefore releasing less dander which is good, but not "allergy free". Luckily for the kids and me, we have no predisposition to allergies so the only benefit I see is less hair all over the house! LOL...If we keep them groomed properly and use high quality shampoo, we can keep whatever shedding and dander release to a minimum.
I read up on crystals and it does sound painful! A few of the med based websites say that you can avoid surgery with a specialized diet and plenty of fresh drinking water and meds if necessary...But I will keep that in mind, thank you!

Meet Her
Posted: 2/11/2013 6:54:38 AM
First of all what you're doing wrong is thinking you're doing something wrong...
Next, inviting a stranger (for all intents and purposes) to such an extravagant event is a no no. What happens if you don't like each other or, God forbid, something worse? You don't want to risk the embarrassment esp in front of your friends and no doubt it would be awkward for her too. Meeting your friends is waaaay down the line, NOT a first meeting/date....
And lastly, a possible budding relationship with 2 hours between you is a bad idea...If you really like her then keep chatting and set up a CASUAL meeting for when you are home for summer break....

Bichon-poo or Shitzu?
Posted: 2/11/2013 4:58:51 AM
We are finally getting a new puppy and it's down to a Bichon-poo (X Bichon Frise and a poodle) or a pure bred Shitzu....
I'm studying up on both but it's always good to talk to ppl who have them, or know ppl who have them, to give me some advice and opinions.
I don't have too long to choose because the breeders open their doors again tomorrow and I don't want them to get adopted!
Thank you!

Downton Abbey FANS !

My sister is also addicted to that show and she is very picky about what she watches....How can I catch up?? Can I get it OnDemand (Verizon) or through Blockbuster (like Netflix)? How long has it been running?
Sounds like something I would really enjoy, and you are right, not a whole lot of good programming these days and all the series' I do like are on winter "hiatus"

how do men think

No, you are right. At the very least IF he didn't have time to meet with you he should have said as much....Could be a multitude of things but I would consider that rude and not all that friendly

You're young, you have time. Not good advice anymore.
Posted: 2/8/2013 7:52:17 AM
OP: I might be the minority here but I don't think there is anything wrong with the current lifestyle you are living. If you are having fun and getting what you need, then live that way (and fill up the time) until you DO find the right girl for you. Why sit around and be celibate while you're wating, esp at your age?
HOWEVER, having read your previous posts, you say you DO have a child out there that is your own, there is that psycho woman who said it is between you and another man but you are convinced it's not yours, and then in a more recent post:
And that is just ONE girl I have dealt with recently. I might be having a kid with someone who's been arrested for drug abuse
So that's 3 women (at least) with whom you've had unprotected sex who ended up pregnant!! (whether they are yours or not)
Do you see how you are at a disadvantage too?? Not that you are hookin up all over the place (as some women don't care) but that you are not using protection and gettin involved with all these crazy chicks!
Doesn't it then come down to reasoning that you are sleeping with these women, not using protection (and obviously they aren't either) and therefore putting yourself at risk for far more than just a kid? How about a whole host of nasty STD's that possibly can't be cured!
Your time on this earth may be far more limited than you think if you keep this up!!

Emailing My Feelings
Posted: 2/6/2013 7:42:41 PM
You really seem like an amazing, smart young man so I believe she is a lucky girl! I love the idea of Valentines Day and especially the hand written letter, but I agree you should give it to her to read in private so she's not put on the spot. She can absorb what you write and gather her wits to tell you how she feels....
LOVE the reference to Khaleesi from Game of Thrones but you are hardly Khal Drago as he was a barbaric neanderthal, lol. I think you are more like Jon Snow : )
Perhaps if things go your way you'll be back here soon telling us how happy you are!!
Good luck!

Cracked iPad screen
Posted: 2/6/2013 4:58:55 AM
My iPad has a crack in the screen but still works. My ex said he doesn't think it's safe for our son to use now. Not because of any glass issues but because it might leak some kind of chemical or something. I have no idea because I am completely tech illiterate but he said that his phone had a crack in it and it gave him horrible headaches to use....
Anyway, just wondering as I'd hate to replace it until I get some more money saved up but he uses it for homework
Thanks!

OP, I was going to say basically the same thing as the others. If you think something will reflect negatively on you, think long and hard before posting it! Two things you can't get back; words and actions

How do I report a user on POF?
Posted: 2/4/2013 7:41:56 PM
Well I'm trying to figure out how this would work...She says he was disrespectful/racist towards her but how would you (POF) know? I'm not saying in any way that he wasn't, but how can it be proven? Is that an issue?
What are the criteria, specifically, for someone to be reported in cases like this or is she just left with the option of blocking him and leaving it at that?
Again, I'm not saying he wasn't a jerk but there are rules in place FOR and AGAINST reporting so it doesn't turn into a personal revenge type situation. There have to be some kind of controls in place...

Superbowl?
Posted: 2/4/2013 6:33:17 PM
In all fairness Hoops, I didn't say anything about the outcome of the game, which is what I meant in the quote of mine you posted. I simply asked where was the team that everyone was so afraid was going to tear the Ravens apart? I was also complaining that the game was not fun to watch, even though we were winning....
I don't predict the endings of Ravens games because almost the whole of this past season was just bizarre!
It actually sunk in this afternoon and while I'm ecstatic about the win, I'm already suffering withdrawl symptoms!!

Superbowl?
Posted: 2/4/2013 10:24:38 AM
Well I was basically knockin on Heaven's door last night. Worst flu I have ever had...If my niece hadn't been texting me the whole time I would have been passed out by the start of the 3rd. With all the drugs I was on I thought I was hallucinating when we actually won, lol....All that pretty purple confetti falling from the sky : )
Oh and I was pretty tickled when one of our guys was making a "snow angel" out of confetti, lol.
It was a good game and then it was a weird game, but I told my mother after our first 2 touchdowns that I never do or say anything about any game until there is 5 min left and we're significantly ahead...Well we weren't and I didn't but it still went our way, so yes, congrats to the Ravens and all the fans out there!!

What makes sex bad for you?
Posted: 2/2/2013 10:25:56 AM
For me bad sex includes, a small penis (like if I can't feel it) bad breath, if he doesn't prop up on his arms and I can't breathe, bad kisser #1 worst thing! And this doesn't make it bad but I like a man to make some noise. Not grunting or anything like that (lol) but a little moaning so I know what I'm doing is really getting him hot. I love it when he is about to cum and looks in my eyes and says it! God that's hot!!
I have a lot of male friends I like to talk to about this very subject and the general consensus is what other ppl have said here but they all say a lot of mistakes come from oral...If a girl is going to town and right when he is about to cum she takes it out of her mouth (I assume because she thinks it's icky) or if she stops before he is done....I know it's hard to tell how long he is going to take sometimes and that's why communication is key. Perhaps for him to say something like "Don't stop, not yet" or in reverse, as in he is done and needs to pull away, a gentle tug on the hair or hands on the face works fine, as well as "STOP!", that works too, haha.
Each person has their own thoughts and feelings as to what is hot and what is NOT, but I think that no passion/lack of enthusiasm, any kind of offensive body odor, crying (in pain), selfishness, not getting to finish (or letting the other finish), is pretty much a downer for everyone.

Mmmm... Cigars!
Posted: 2/2/2013 8:57:27 AM
My ex used to smoke cigars and I found that very sexy. I guess the smell didn't really bother me because "back in the day" ppl could smoke in restaurants and bars so I got used to it. That and my dad smoked cigars too....
I really like clove cigarettes once in a while because they smell and taste so good! They also last forever, but are very pricey...I heard they are like smoking 3 cigarettes at one time because they are so strong (even filtered). Is that true?
I learned to smoke them in highschool because the cool (and sexy) thing was to shotgun one with someone else. It was a good excuse to get up close and personal with a hot guy : ^ 9

Opening the Door for Sexual talk
Posted: 2/1/2013 6:41:33 PM
I always love when women automatically pounce on a man like that....You're a beuatiful young girl and he's a guy, duh. If you were talking about the weather he would have somehow incorporated that into sex talk or at least thoughts!
This:
If you are setting up boundaries, don't cross them yourself (flirting and sex talk) and expect that he isn't going to try as well.
