Best ways to keep fit in the colder months

I have started to ride the local bus to go to the shops. I find that I do a lot more walking this way. I take a folding cart for purchases. I have a manual (non-electric) treadmill set up inside. Using it helps keep my legs strong for the walking , after getting off the bus. (I placed an ad asking if anyone had a treadmill that they didn't use. I got an answer. They let me have it for free. It doesn't hurt to ask :-).)

Vacuum Cleaner Pudding

Vacuum Cleaner Pudding
My Mother used to make this for the family. With meals and packing lunches,
she had an odd assortment of leftover cookies/cake/pie bits 'n pieces. She saved
everything (including the crumbs in the cookie jar). When she had "squirreled
away" enough (in the freezer) to feed the family (usually once or twice a month)
she made her "famous" Vacuum Cleaner Pudding (a vacuum cleaner bag has a wide variety of stuff in it. "You never know what you're gonna'
git." Forrest Gump).
Vacuum Cleaner Pudding Oven: 325 / 30 min.
Microwave: 50% power / 15 - 20 min.
Broken cookies (including crumbs)
Misc. leftover cake and pie
one package of instant pudding/pie filling (flavor your choice)
Milk (see pudding instructions)
2 whole eggs
vanilla flavoring to taste (optional)
1. Press cookies/cake/pie into greased loaf pan
2. Mix milk, eggs, and vanilla
3. Warm the milk mixture until it is hot - but not boiling
4. Pour pudding powder into milk mixture and blend
5. Pour liquid over the top of the dry ingredients in the loaf pan
6. Cook until set up (check by inserting knife point)
Cut into squares and serve warm, topped with whipped cream/ice cream or even
warm milk.
Enjoy!

Ramon Noodles

I usually throw in a broken up package of it (sans flavor packet) when I am cooking pasta. The ramon helps to make "catching" the pasta easier. It sort of twines and twists around the regular pasta, and makes it easier to eat. And it helps to hold whatever sauce I use.

What adds flavor to Chicken & Rice?

Believe it or not - I pour some pickle juice (liquid in the pickle jar) in it. I also do this in meatloaf. The spices taste good.

How did you learn to cook?

I was a Brownie (before Girl Scouts), and knew that I would have to learn in order to get a cooking badge. I made a (lopsided) cake. (looked bad - tasted GREAT!!!)

Cook it , mash it well, add mayo, mustard and relish, and use as a sandwich spread (good on crackers, too).

Share your Poor Man's Breakfast dishes here

Toast well buttered. Tear into pieces, and add syrup. My sister and I could make this poor man's version of French toast which we just called Toast & Syrup. Now, I figure that since bread contains egg, it really is a lower calorie version of French Toast.

Wierd sandwiches we ate as kids or anything else!

Guess what! I ate mustard sandwiches, too. You know, mustard has such a strong taste, that even if you have meat on a sandwich, if you use lots of mustard - THAT is all you taste (so why bother - when you are a kid)?
P. S. I liked mustard and mayo sandwiches the best.

I don't just eat them with a dunking sauce. I also get them crispy, and make sandwiches with them. It's fun to use hot dog buns, too.

Any single RV rs here?

Sold the house in '05, and bought 371/2 ' diesel pusher with a Saturn "toad". Together it is about 50' long. I love the community of RV'ers. Mostly just real nice, helpful folks. I didn't like the location where I had my house, now - I can change the location at will! :-)
Being a woman driving this rig surprises many people. I took an RV driving course (just do a Google search). It was so helpful - and I get a deduction on the insurance.
I have been Snowbirding in Quartzsite, AZ., and the "Slabs" in CA. There is so much info and sites to check out for those thinking of fulltiming (like me).
This is a great life, if you can enjoy miles and miles of miles and miles.

Sounds like he's not only insecure, but he EXPECTS to be able to controll you. That kind of guy will eventually keep you a prisoner in the house. My grandfather used to tell my grandmother that she was seeing someone in the alley when she took out the trash. Run Forrest, Run!!!

Would you date/marry a person in the military
Posted:

I was born and raised in a military family. My father served 30 years in the Army which became the Army Air Corps, which became the Air Force. At his death, my parents were together 50 years. I saw how they worked as a team to keep our family together and strong. When he was away for TDY, my mom used this time for us to do things that dad didn't enjoy (we were 4 daughters), girl stuff. Mom did volunteer work for various base organizations, and saw that we did our part, too. It is often the families who make a BIG difference in the social running of a military base. Moving is an exciting part of the lifestyle. I was born overseas, went to high school overseas, and am DEEPLY proud to be an American after the experiences and travels I was lucky to have because my dad was a serviceman. I wouldn't trade my life for anyones. It was GREAT!
I loved the life, and hope to meet a retiree, myself.

inexperience in the dating game.. how do I learn fast?

There have been times when getting into a friends car for the first time, that I had to figure out where the door handle was. So many different set-ups. By the time I figure out where the handle IS, he would have already gotten in by himself. Old cars were pretty standard -- new ones aren't so easy. Think about it!

Dating the physically disabled.

In the disabled community, there is a name for "average people", it's TAB (Temporarily Able Bodied). We are ALL just one illness, accident, or results of aging, away from becoming disabled ourself. It, truely is the one minority class which accepts everyone, regardless of race, age, gender, income, politics, creed, religion, etc. The longer you live, the higher the probability is that you will become disabled in some form during your lifetime. Food for thought.

Would you date someone that is taking care of a elder parent?
Posted:
2/12/2007 3:32:10 AM
I took care of my parents, then my much older sister. In reading some POF topics, many people responded that it would be a "red flag" if a person was still single and had no children over 50 years old. I spent my lifetime helping those I loved, and so I guess that makes me not relationship material. It hurts me to think that what I did, somehow makes me a social freak. I understand the topic. But do you who have responded realize how others on POF make us feel? The way I see it, people who unselfishly see to the needs of others, would be people well worth knowing. Or is kindness and self sacrifice character traits to be avoided in the relationship arena?
