WOOHOO....the hostess with the mostess is BACK....it's great to see that you're hosting another one of your fabulous parties at the Slip Not, Laurene! I bumped into Ron today and it was great to see him too! I'll have to make a point of getting to the party to hook-up with you both again...and of course to enjoy one of Ron's LUCIOUS strawberries!

just an observation
Posted: 10/22/2008 8:36:32 AM
Just where exactly is it that you live, pt? Do you live in Florida or up north? Your profile says Sarasota..........actually your profile states that you're here visiting for Christmas so maybe it's time to update your profile..........laffs.........or just wait another month if your plan is to visit Florida again and then it will be timely.

Now, my thought (and I'm by no means an expert on the reasons, it's just my thoughts) on the women here in Florida and what type of relationship they're looking for.......I would guess that many of the people that live here in Florida are here because they "retired" here. They retired here because of the lifestyle that can be lead in a place where the sun shines 300+ days a year. Perhaps the women whose profiles you see with the boats, hot cars, pools, etc are now widowed or divorced and are looking to establish new friendships with the goal of one day again being in a longterm relationship.

Laffs...........I just happen to have lived here for 30 years now, working in education all that time, so I didn't make big money up north that I could bring along with me to Florida in my "golden" years ; you'll not see boats, hot cars or a pool in my profile pictures. Nonetheless, as my profile states, I too am looking to establish a friendship first, believing that it is the strong foundation upon which a loving, lasting, longterm relationship can be built. Especially at this stage of my life, I've come to love myself enough that I don't "need" someone else but one day I hope that the one finds me that I "want" in my life .

Smiles..............our Peace River ABATE chapter also hosts a VERY SUCCESSFUL Toy for Tots run and concert in SW Florida............Last year it was estimated over 5000 bikes participated, not to mention all those who attended in cages. Just one of the charity events in which it participates. Harley riders, and bikers in general, are well known to support and give back to their community! It's ALLLLLLLLLLLLL good.....and it just gets back to the old Harley standard quote..........."If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand"................

I'm still not sure why someone who is not into the lifestyle would even bother to post addressing said "disdained" lifestyle............"to each his own" I say.............

Starting a new Life
Posted: 2/14/2008 12:16:00 PM
It's too bad that you took so to heart one woman's perception, Trooper. On the other hand, I'd like to point out a few negatives about your profile, which by the way, you repeat once again here. Perhaps more than the fact that you're starting your life over (which is exactly what many people on a dating site are doing) it's your pessimistic and negative attitude that is the more influential factor.

For example:

a few dates with girls that were set up from friends of mine that didn't like seeing me depressed and lonely

and hopefully dancing will make me happer than how I feel at this moment

Why don't you edit your profile and focus on the "positive" qualities that you would bring to a new friendship/relationship. Point out the activities and places that you enjoy and don't mention those you don't (depressed and lonely, hopefully make me happier, beach/sand). There will come a time for sharing the more personal and intimate aspects of your life......those very things that make you the unique individual that you are.......after the friendship/relationship progresses along.

Also I would suggest you add some other photos, an outdoor shot or two, the warehouse picture is a good full body shot.......but the background leaves a bit to be desired, delete the two headshots where you are frowning. The one with the smile is very nice, it's just too dark.

I hope I didn't offend you and I don't mean to be "critical"......consider it a "constructive critique" of your profile.

I wish you the best of luck with your "fishing" .

PS: Thank you for your service to our country and to the preservation of our freedoms!

Well said, littlephishy! As my profile indicates, and as stated by you.............

If women embrace that or just like the Harley-head thing so be it, it's certainly not "crap", it's just a little thing in life that they may enjoy.

.........my interest in Harley's is just one aspect of the types of activities I enjoy. I'm educated, well read, world traveled, a published poet, a professional in my career field and by no means a "Harley Head or Harley Mama". As long as these two have to have it explained, they'll never understand and that's OK........but why in the world they insist on demanding an answer instead of just seeking profiles of women with likeminded interests is beyond me....................

OK, enough said, I'm through sharing my thoughts on this thread...........

why dont men want a bbw who is a damn good woman?
Posted: 1/22/2008 1:27:55 PM
OK........after reading thru this thread, I'm going to reply to an observation I've made. Since first impressions of typed words and pictures are what "internet dating" is all about...........how about the fact that several women on this thread identify themselves as carrying "a few extra pounds" or "average" but who are clearly obese or BBW. How do they expect a man to respond to someone who is either not being truthful from the get go or who clearly does not have a true understanding of their own body type? I would think that they may be skeptical about what other aspects of the woman's life may not be what is expressed.

I happen to know several men who MUCH prefer BBW women as opposed to the petite, smaller built woman so I don't think it's all about a woman being BBW but more an issue of selfconfidence and an honest awareness of their own body type.

Just a thought...................

Well said, Girlflower. My very good friend, Bikerguy45, does not drink at all, in fact many in our ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Toward Education) organization do not drink either, and these are those "hardcore" Harley bikers that so many frown upon. These are the same "hardcore" bikers who are the first to step up to the plate when a brother or sister is in need of ANYTHING, who are the first to step up with charitable fund raising events (usually aimed at supporting organizations that work with children), who are the first to honor our troops with send off missions, welcome home missions and sadly..........memorial missions as Patriot Guard Riders.

Yup.........you bet I'd trust my life with a "hardcore" Harley biker any day. Now having stated that fact, as with all walks of life, there are the good, the bad and the ugly! It's all about making SMART and SELECTIVE decisions and choices............it's why my two beautiful, brave and wonderful sons serve in the US Navy as "career" military men.......to protect the very freedoms and rights that allow us to make those SMART and SELECTIVE choices!

AHEM.............I beg your pardon..........may I point out a few glaring grammatical errors in your post since "poor spelling and misuse of words" in profiles is of concern to you?

who mention they love HARLEY'S
should read "who mention they love HARLEYS"
~no apostrophe, you don't want to use a possesive here~

or HAVE a photo of herself
should read "or HAS a photo of herself"
~you don't want to use plural here = SHE HAS as opposed to THEY HAVE~

OK........now that we have that out of the way..........why should you be so "tired" of women who are seeking men who ride a Harley. If it doesn't apply to you, then why even address the preference? Surely there are many other women who have no interest in a Harley rider or any motorcycle rider for that matter as stated by raiderfan18. Laffs.........which by the way, I'm surprised a certain bikerguy hasn't responded to the "certain age" reference...........

Perhaps the true issue is not the "Harley Crap"........hmmmmmmmmm?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the truly good people I've met thru POF. Remember that the season signifies hope, love, faith and a belief in miracles...........believe in the MIRACLE that is you........and know that YOU CAN give beyond reason; care beyond hope; and love without limit. That you can reach, stretch, and dream, in spite of your fears. These are the hallmarks of divinity - traits of the immortal - your badges of honor. Wear them with pride and believe that it is very possible that your light has illuminated darkened paths, your gaze has lifted broken spirits, and already your life has changed the destiny of all who will ever follow...........BELIEVE..............

I wish for you and yours the best of love, health, peace and happiness this holiday season!

Share Your Broken Heart Poetry
Posted: 12/13/2007 7:46:49 AM
Longings

Wisps of pale diaphanous clouds;
Drift in the darkness, silent shrouds.
Sparkling stars, the moon’s shed tears;
Reflect the loneliness this soul most fears.
Ghostly images whisper in the mind;
Murmuring softly of passions left behind.
Warm, sweet flesh flushed with desire;
Softly cried moans fueled by the fire.
Limbs entwined, joined lips quiver
Two souls sail on passion’s river.
Moments of two hearts once captured;
In the night filled with such rapture.
Longing for what now seems lost;
Anguished pain is what love costs.
Sparkling tears, the moon’s shed tears;
Are what this lonely soul now wears.

I absolutely remove myself from a "favorite" list if I've not been contacted first. I find it very rude, presumptuous and assuming. I do, however, ALWAYS respond to an email. Even if it's only to say "Thank you for your interest, but I don't think we'd be a good match. Good luck with your search."

Dating - A Game At Our Age??
Posted: 12/11/2007 11:59:25 AM
Encarta definition of:

Game: something played for fun; an activity that people participate in, together or on their own, for fun.

In my opinion, since the OP is asking if "dating" is a game...........I would like to think it is........in the sense that two people first "date" each other before they decide to take it to the next level (or not)....and I would always hope that the activity would be fun, the exchanges playful as we learned about each other!

Now.......to take it to the next level, once the playful stage of "dating" is possibly moving on to a more permanent or intimate level.......do I like "game players"........in the sense of people who are cavalier, indifferent or insensitive regarding others and their feelings............ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I would hope that at this stage of our lives............we would have enough of life's experiences and lessons behind us to recognize the flags that would indicate the difference between dating and having fun as opposed to those who are "game players".

Sort of like girldivers comment about making special connections when your more relaxed, more yourself and having fun!!!!

It was always when I was out having fun that I made a special connection. You are more relaxed and more yourself when having fun. There is no way to lose when you are having fun because the worst thing that can happen is you have some fun![\quote]

Absolutely! I belong to a fairly active group of POF'ers here on the SW coast of FL and thru the local gatherings I've met several nice women with whom I now have an association. Check your area for local POF gatherings, adgirl, and attend them. I believe there's several going on over on your side of the state. Just check out the Florida forums. Good luck!

Ummmmmmmmm............Kevin............what does the secret to your baked brie have to do with the OPs question? Or for that matter, what does it have to do with the thread entitled: "Get a grip of the reality of your age"? Not trying to be obnoxious or contrary, just trying to understand your seemingly "canned" response to two totally different discussion threads.

In answer to the OPs question, I'm part of a group of POF'ers on the SW coast of Florida and we're a pretty active group where several people are either currently dating or have dated and decided they would rather be friends (grins.......... or not as the case may be)............at any rate, some very nice acquaintanceships/friendships are being developed within the group and that's a success in itself...........at least to my way of thinking.

Happy Fishing everyone................. and a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Holiday Night of Lights
Fri, December 07, 2007
Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Location: St. Armands Circle

The biggest and most magical night on St. Armands. The Circle and Circle Park magically come to life as the Circle "lights up" with thousands of white lights and lighted silhouette decorations! The offical kick off to the Holiday season, the evening begins with the lighting of St. Armands' FOUR STORY Christmas tree. And, of course, we musn't forget the arrival of that jolly old elf, himself - Santa Claus! Twelve live musical entertainment groups are scattered thoroughout the Circle as well as strolling musicians! Children have the opportunity to visit with Santa and share their wish list! Stores have extended store hours and the feeling of holiday cheer is in the air.

Sarasota Christmas Boat Parade
Saturday, December 8, 2007
Time: 5 pm
Location: Sarasota Bay

The boats travel from the southern tip of Longboat Key south, past City Island. The parade then crosses the bay, towards Centennial Park, and follows the shoreline south, under the Ringling Bridge. It enters the harbor by Marina Jack for judging.

What made you smile today?

Thinking about Christmas and the "reason for the season" knowing that I'm blessed with a beautiful family and special friends and anticipating their smiles when I share the personal, little gifts I have for them.

Well stated, indianoutlaw. I now await, patiently, for a response from another hardcore (with the exception of the "gang" reference) "bikerguy45" who rides tank, to tank, to tank; who takes an annual 5,000 mile road trip each July; and who is a likeminded brother to you.............grins...................
