Belief......to you
Posted:
11/6/2007 7:38:50 AM
Belief for me is more than just looking and thinking "ok this religion looks good". For me, belief is the way i live. I devote my life, my heart, my soul, my mind, body and spirit all to serving my lord, God. I am not a Sunday christian, i practice my faith every single day in the way that i live and the things that i do. I avoid things that will lead me into temptation, and persue things that benefit my spirit, aswell as the wellbeing of others. My main goals entail with my belief are to not only to serve myself, but to stregthen my faith, as well as other's. I do my very best to unite people who share my own beliefs so that we may serve each other and the Lord God, in a way that is pleasing to him, and will generally help others in the process. Faith is nothing without deeds, and deeds are nothing without faith (James chapter 1 or 2). My entire life is devoted to helping and serving others, and will in the end make a difference, not to just my life, but i hope to the lives of everyone i have contact with.
sorry to go on a bit, but i am passionate when it comes to my faith, and to helping others.

how to cook minced meat?

First off, when dealing with red mince - buy the reddest mince you can find. The lighter the fattier. In the pan, i find it best to put some garlic and chilli oil (1 teaspoon each of crushed garlic and fresh chilli in 1 cup extra virgin olive oil), then get the mince, and mix 2 tablespoons of ketchup (per 500gms) and 1 tsp of soy sauce (per 500 gms) and whatever spices that float your boat. I find that a small pinch of curry powder takes some of that raw taste you can get with mince, but not enough to cause any flavour. Maybe 1/8 of a teaspoon per 500gms. Then put it into a frying pan at 375F (190C) and cook until it is light brown in colour. This gives you perfect mince every time - and for any situation.
For a nice curry, you could use 1 tsp of curry powder, 4 Tablespoons of ketchup, 2 teaspoons of soy sauce, 2 teaspoons of mixed herbs, 1 teaspoon of freshly crushed chilli, and 3 tablespoons of gravy mix (or 1/2 a cup of fines) and 2 cups of water. Place this into a bowl, mix well, and then put with the mince and cook quietly at 250F for 10 minutes. This goes well on rice - remember to wash the rice beforehand, and fluff with a fork after cooking to prevent it from going gluggy.

Sweet Tasty and.... Healthy?

Find and buy some apricots that you KNOW have come from places that get hit by frost often. I gurantee you, they will be the sweetest, most succulant apricots ever. Also, you can juice 1 apricot in a blender, and dice half an apricot into tiny pieces (maybe 5mm cubes?) and mix the whole lot into unsweetened greek yoghurt. That is the best luch you could have, cures any sweet tooth, and is 100% natural and healthy. Also has the AB cultures that yoghurt is so reknowned for - good sweet treat for dieters.

Its quite rude to say something like that in front of someone who has worked hard to bring you a meal. Worded differently - something like "may i make a suggestion for next time?" would have been better - would have been mopre appropriate.

Also, put some crushed cucumber with it (2 tps, optional), along with some unsweetened greek yoghurt (1-2 cups, depending on preferences), and you have Tzatziki sauce.
EDIT: This is for therbugisback's recipe, it wouldnt work so well with OP's recipe.

Thats why most people say The Father or The Lord - since you arent actually naming, it can be freely spoken by Jews and Christians alike.

Has there been a song that really touched you spiritually?
Posted:
11/3/2007 12:39:50 PM
The sing 'How could this happen to me?' by Simple Plan is a deeply moving song for me, as my life has been one towered over by death of friends and relatives, abuse in the family, and the series of **** ups one after another that have made my life essentially worthless. There was a time where depression really set in hard, and for a long time i was considering suicide to the point of almost fulfilling my plan. What really hit hard now when i hear this song is it was enjoyed alot by one of my best frieds, who died a few weeks ago of an anuerism - i still miss him. I went and sat on the train tracks and nearly got hit, if it wasnt for someone pulling me away at the last minute.
Simple Plan -- How could this happen to me?
I open my eyes
I try to see but I'm blinded by the white light.
I can’t remember how
I can’t remember why
I'm lying here tonight
And I can’t STAND the pain
And I can’t make it go away
No I can’t STAND the pain
*CHORUS*
How could this happen to me
I've made my mistakes
got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
I'm sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me
Everybody’s screaming
I try to make a sound but no one hears me
I’m slipping off the edge
I’m hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again
So I try to hold
On to a time when
Nothing mattered
And I can’t explain
What happened and I can’t erase the things that I’ve done
No I can’t
*CHORUS*
How could this happen to me
I've made my mistakes
got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me
I've made my mistakes
got nowhere to run
The night goes on as I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

Call me a conspiracy theorist, however, I do not believe the attacks of 9/11 were from Islamic extremist. Too much evidence refutes the claims of the Bush administraion.
I believe that somewhat aswell Freya, there is a good chance that it could have been done by an enemy of Iraq in order to bring war down on Iraq. It was quickly becoming a military power, and an attack that appeared to be from Iraq would have been the perfect cover for a country. Dont flame me anyone, but it could have even been america as an excuse to take out Iraqs military power. Take a look at the events leading up to, and then after the Twin Towers.

It is a very scary thought, but i believe that they are going to target Australia next. They seem to be going in it to destroy places of tourist value to our countries. First the twin towers (controversy there though), then the Bali bombings and the London station. Chances are, it is going to be something like the Sydney Harbour bridge next. There hasnt been an attack on Australian soil as of yet, and not a day goes by where i dont worry that im going to turn on the news and find out that Australia or America has been hit be terrorists.

Westboro Baptist Church Sued

That is completely disgraceful. I have also discussed this with some of my fellow member of my church, including 2 of the pastors, and we all have the same views on it. This is a Baptist church, by the way. To think that a baptist church is going out and doing things to the people who give up their lives so that the people of today can live a better life is just sickening. Really all i have to say on the topic.

Heaven
Posted:

Sometimes with heaven i have to wonder. I think it may be that there will be a point when you die where you are given a last chance, with absolutely conclusive evidence of the presence of God, to give you the last chance to get into heaven. And of course, if there is infallible, absolutely conclusive evidence of God and Jesus, then who would still not belive? I dont think that non-christians will go to hell immediately. I believe that we are given a final choice before the decision is made. Why would it be that God would tell us to love unconditionally, no matter who a person is, and never judge people for their sins if they were going straight to hell? There is more than enough evidence in the bible that points to what i have described, and in my eyes, it fits much better than the common belief that all non-christians will go to hell.

Just what is your Moral code?
Posted:
11/2/2007 8:39:59 AM
Is morality a black and white issue or is it a ever changing mix of gray areas?
It is never black and white
Is abortion moral or could it be a moral act?
Only if in the curcimstances, the pregnancy would cause risk to the mother, or if the baby would have to be brought up in a enviroment that is unsafe or that would harm the child while they are growing up. Abortion without proper reason (like you just dont want a baby) is selfish and worng - especially with all the people out there who would give anything in th world to have a child of their own, but cannot concieve for whatever reason.
Is Murder ever a moral act?
If it is deemed that the person is in so much pain that living cannot continue. I.e assisted suicide.
Homosexuality?
People are people, they are always going to differ. I see no reason to exclude those who may be of a different persuasion than we may be.
Is any sexual act between to consenting adults immoral?
Of course not, if both parties consent, then there is no reason for them to feel that they cannot do something sexual because it is deemed immoral by people.
Can a lie ever be a moral act?
Yes. It must be done in the protection of people in different circumstances. For instance, a police officer may have to lie to someone who otherwise would harm themselves or somebody else.
theft?
Big IF here. Depending on the circumstances, if it is say a single mother who cannot support herself or her children, then i could say that it is morally acceptable - it is required to survive, and so often the government system will let people down. Then kick them while they are down, metaphorically.

Harry Potter = Anti christian & pro witchcraft?

Thats is just pathetic hey lol. I adore the harry potter books myself, and i am a christian. Generally that sort of stuff doesnt bother me, anyone who it does bother needs to sort out thier priorities. Actually, i enjoy reading posts about witchcraft, paganism, and any other religion, culture etc - it allows me to learn more about the peopel in the world around me. Even though i may not agree, it is still good to hear people out and learn about different things.

BIBLE WRONG! Judas was a Patriot- NOT a Traitor!
Posted:

I think the Gospel of Judas are the words of a man so overcome with the guilt of effectively killing his mentor and rabbi, he sought to write a tract that would lead people to believe that he could justify his actions. People even today do it all the time, for different reasons of course, but the act is the same.

Does God answer prayer?
Posted:
10/25/2007 10:05:16 AM
Just realised i might not be totally clear on the last argument. Anything toxic in the body causes some sort of damage to the DNA, when you have a child while you have been afflicted by these chemicals, you have a pretty good chance of giving a damaged piece of DNA to your child. This does not mean to say that an illness is the mother's fault. It means that somewhere in their ancestry something happened to make one of the child's ancestors sick, and this ancestor happened to have a child without knowing they were sick yet. And so the vicious cycle continues. With use of dangerous products on the rise, so do the chances of being exposed unwittingly to one of these harmful products, which in turn can affect your decendants without you realising what happened. Nowadays, about 80% of people's ancestry have been afflicted with harmful products at some point ,and have passed it on to their child(ren). Think on it.

Does God answer prayer?
Posted:
10/25/2007 9:51:18 AM
Wouldn't it be unfair for those who don't have a chance or opportunity, those who don't know better, who do not understand, those who are less fortunate to have a chance or opportunity to answer to their own prayers such as those who are born in countries or conditions which provide not one chance or opportunity
I believe here, you are talking about third world countries. Who made these countries so poor? Greed and hate mainly - meaning humans. We made the third world countries. Because we are so affluent in our own countries, we dont think that maybe there are people in the world who are suffering, all that the average person thinks about is what is going to happen the next day, and what they are going to do for the rest of this day (pretty much all of us really). None of us ever stopped to think about the problems that we caused there by never sharing with others. Not that it is our problem alone either, because it is not. Much of the poverty there was caused by warring among themselves for precious metals and gems, when greed and hate start clouding people's thoughts, then we get vicious and strike out against one another. Look at these impoverished countries, notice that they have been torn apart by war at some point in the country's history? And about oppurtunities? Well, even today, look at the thousands of people who are helping the third world countries, pulling them back onto their feet. And its still a massive problem, that's for sure, but it is slowly but surely getting better as the years go by. Look at what is happening now - people are waking up and thinking about these poor people every once and a while, and they donate their own money so that these people can survive (and i commend anybody who gives to these foundations).
Why would god make that a child is born crippled or with an incurable desease when this child had no chance or opportunity to change that condition himself?
Once again, this is partially our fault. Look back in time, look at any records you can find and what do you see? Even up to the point of 500 years ago, the rate of seriously ill/disfigured children was something like 0.23% of all births, and minor defects about 3% of all births. What does that say about our society today where 7% of children born are seriously disfigured/sick and around 31% have minor defects? Notice that this all happens near the time that we start playing with dangerous chemicals? If you think about it, you can see that we are the root of this problem aswell. By using dangerous chemicals when we dont know what the consequences could be means that there will always be future problems that WILL affect our children - no ifs or buts. It has been proven that exposure to most harmful products causes some sort of damage, wether it be cellular or otherwise. Asbestos kill the respiritory system (was once used commonly (up until 30 or so years ago)). Arsenic kills the cardiovascular systems (often found in water - used as insectaside, still is (MMSA), once used to treat wood, was once used in medicine, and is still used heavily in pyrotechnics). Radiation destroys and mutates cells (still used today - we still dont know all the long-term effects - people are still dying from the Nagasaki, and Hiroshima bombing). Lead poisons you (used for centuries without proper knowledge). Mercury poisons you (was used to cure velvet, commonly found in water).
What do we see about all these harmful products? They are all extremely dangerous and cause extreme side effects from use, and yet we were aware of the dangers, and still used them. That was the root of disfiguration today in our children.
God is not just going to pull us back onto our feet. We got ourselves into this mess, we need to get ourselves out. If he just pulls us out, we will start demanding from him. Look at children for example (sorry kids! lol) - lets say they will try to touch a hot stove. You can pull them back as much as you like, but until they actually do it, they will never learn why it isnt good to touch the stove. Parent will know that you cant reason with a 2 or 3 year old.

You could power 2 Xbox 360s
3 of you would be needed to keep a refrigerator running

Does God answer prayer?
Posted:
10/25/2007 7:32:45 AM
He does answer prayers, but first he give you the oppurtunity to answer them yourself. He will never simply give you what you want, he will provide oppurtunities and motivations for you to do things yourself - just like any parent here would.
Parents will understand this - if you give your child everythings he/she disires, they will learn nothing, and become spoilt brats who demand everything. However, if you allow them to work things out for themselves, and allow them to reap the rewards of their hard work, then they will learn and become much better off in the long run.
Just remember that God knows what you are praying about long before you even thought about praying about it, and will have set the gears in place for you to solve problems for yourself. Never overlook the small things - every action has a reaction and everything that happens, even the smallest things have a purpose that will change your life in a small way. So just remember to look out for the small things can make a difference.
For a long time i was looking for a job, and to no avail, but even through the prayers and the worrying, i ignored this small ad in the bottom of the paper, it was there week after week, for months and i ignored it. I finally decided to respond to it, and lo and behold i now am starting an apprenticeship in Bricklaying in just over 2 weeks, and am looking forward to finally getting out of the rut of being unemployed for about the last 18 months to 2 years. Feels good, and it wasnt that God answered my prayers, it is that he gave me the oppurtunity to answer them myself.
God works in funny ways, you can learn alot if you just look hard enough.

Religious bias here on the Forums

Well, artz, im a christian, but not entirely a fundementalist. Truth be told, i will admit that some parts of the bible have been proven as wrong in translation. Im not totally adherent to the fundementalist's ideas of christianity. I prefer to model myself along the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Spirit, instead of letting a church tell me what to believe in. I will never blindly follow a church's faith without asking questions. I will always challenge a church's ideas about what it teaches, and only follow, if they can prove that they arent brainwashing people (thats more related to catholicism) and only after people's pockets. I was once an athiest, and still retain some of those traits, so yeah, i more follow the Fruits of the Spirit than a church's fundamentalist ideologies.

Im a christian, and what really gets to me is when you start to people about chirstianity, no matter what the provocation for you to explain, they automatically label you as a bible-basher. And i dislike those bullhorn wielding, bible bashing, hell and condemnation evangelists/chirstians aswell - they are the root of the misconception. People see those worked up hell/condemnation televangelists and automatically label chirstians like that. Thats my 2c anyway.

"The devil is in the details". Not knowing the origin of this I alwasy fogured it meat "the fiddly bits than come at the end of a project are a pain" which seemed to make sense to me. But when I heard the correct form in used in an argument about some planned internet infrastructure that could go good or bad... "god and the devil are basically the same thing, the devil is in the deatils" I had a bit more of a clear understanding of what the saying was really all about.
Devil in the details means that it will always be the small things that trip you up. In this case, the meaning is lies - lying is a sin in christianity, and most other religions. So the devil catches up to you and catches you in your own lies.
One thing that does puzzle me is where the term "Goose walked over my grave" actually comes from. I know it is describing the feeling of a chill down your back, but where did it come from?

Well, im a kiwi by birth, moved to Australia in 2000. My family was in NZ for 3-4 generations. Before that it was Celtic descent. I have the most obvious traits - the barrel chest, the deep voice, loud appreciative laugh, ginger hair and full ginger beard. Oh and a great taste for beer. Now all i need is an accent to tie it all up lmao. The perceptive can pick up a slight trace of irish in my voice in certain times too *grin*.

Bible: Book of Joel
Posted:

Just a few hours earlier today, my pastor read the entire book of Joel to the attendance. This had a really powerful effect on all of us, and quite a few were crying by the end of it.
I was curious if the message of this book had a similar effect on you? and if so - what effect did it have on you? If you havent read it (it is often missed - dont be embarrassed), it may be good to read it an put your thoughts up. Most of us in this sermon had it hit quite hard (its generally a sermon for youth, 15-30 year olds mainly).

Greek --- why was it the language for the N.T.
Posted:

I guess I am wondering WHY GOD ordained Greek
God never ordained Greek, he told his words to the people who were transcripting them. They then wrote the scriptures in the best language they could find.
I believe they chose greek because it is so linguistically flexible. The bible is really not just a bunch of stories, its a guide to your life and your faith. Every verse you read in the bible means something different to each person. And you may go back in a couple of years, read again, and find things you missed the last time. The bible is meant to be this way, the language doesnt matter - its the meaning behind the words for you that matters.
But to answer your question, over time, the New Testament was transcribed many times. There were periods where greek was the religious and scientific norm for the day. Coincidentally, this is when most of the transcripts of the New Testment were written. Thats why there are both scripts in Aramic and Greek, different people transcribing the texts in different languages so their people can read them better.

Flaws and Weaknesses

Setbacks are God's way of showing you how to bloom.
Flowers fade, diamonds disintergrate and careers change - but love - love never fades, disintergrates or changes. True love is eternal.
There is nothing more precious than a smile.
Even the saddest day is brightened by a baby's laugh.
It is better to forgive and love, than to begrudge and despair.
If you have never loved, then you have never lived. Love is the mortar than holds the bricks of life together.
Count age in friends, not years.

Real Our Father?

Here are the lists of the Lord's Prayer, so you can nalyze them yourself.
Book of Common Prayer:
Our Father, which art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
in earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
But deliver us from evil.
[For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory,
For ever and ever.] Amen.
English Language Liturgical Consultation:
Our Father in Heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in Heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
[For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.] Amen.
Latin:
Pater noster, qui es in caelis:
sanctificetur Nomen Tuum;
adveniat Regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem;
sed libera nos a Malo.
Matthew 6:9-13 - KJV Version:
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen
Luke 11:2-4 - KJV Version:
And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in Heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
Compare them and decide for yourself. Sorry, i couldnt get the direct translatons from the non-english languages.

Correcting you here, the terrorist attacks were carried out by Jihad Extremeists. The following is a passage from the Qu'ran, these sorts of verses is what the Islamic Extremists use.
And fight in the way of Allah with those who fight against you and do not transgress bounds [in this fighting]. God does not love the transgressors. Kill them wherever you find them and drive them out [of the place] from which they drove you out and [remember] persecution is worse than carnage. But do not initiate war with them near the Holy Kabah unless they attack you there. But if they attack you, put them to the sword [without any hesitation]. Thus shall such disbelievers be rewarded. However, if they desist [from this disbelief], Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. Keep fighting against them, until persecution does not remain and Allah’s religion reigns supreme. But if they mend their ways, then [you should know that] an offensive is only allowed against the evil-doers. A sacred month for a sacred month; [similarly] other sacred things too are subject to retaliation. So if any one transgresses against you, you should also pay back in equal coins. Have fear of Allah and [keep in mind that] Allah is with those who remain within the bounds [stipulated by religion].
It is not the muslims, the religion of Islam is very peaceful. and abhors violence. Keep that in mind when you next talk about religions in that sort fo way.
BTW, i am christian - dont degrade others, even if they dont believe what you believe to be true.

There is a program called Nooma, made by a guy named Rob Bell that looks on things liek this. It is an awesome resource to watch. It doesnt preach, it explains the hard to answer questions :). After watching a few episode, you have to look up to Jewish people, who had to memorise the Torah word for word at about 10 years old, in the hope to one day become a Rabbi. Ive done some research on the Jewish religion, seems prudent to be a christian and not research it, as we share many of the same beliefs.

Creation vs Evolution
Posted:
9/25/2007 8:22:51 PM
Well then, for all you evolutionists, i have a question. If life on earth truly is 1.5 billion years old, as you say, there why are there so few dinosaur fossils? And why are there no transitional fossils? If evolution took place, then surely there would be obvious changes in the billions of fossils that should be lying there. Also, you compile your theoretical earth's history into one neatly drawn line. Though, where can i dig and find all your depicted fossils, all drawn in one neat line? The thing is - i cant. In many places in the world there are layers of fossils that completely contradict what you say, sometimes reversed, and sometimes showing layers from "millions" or years ago and quite recent fossils IN THE SAME ROCK STRATA. Can you explain that for me? Dont try and start spouting about tectonic forces, and plate movements because with plate movements, there would be obvious folds. The plates dont just lift up a few rock layers and put a whole new layer in there for the fun of it.
Think about it, you evolutionists arent as clever as you think you are. There are plenty of contradictions to your theory out there. And when correlated, there are more things pointing to creation than to evolution.

Magazines like that just go with those who pay them the most.
And, get the virus name, and go to to the trend micro website (http://www.trendmicro.com/) and look it up on their databases. It shows you what it is, what it does, and how to effectively remove it.

The latests proofs are down to bone joints, turns out that T-Rex and chickens have the same sort of structure.
So dinosaurs tasted like chicken ... no wonder they never survived...
LMAO

its true though, snake and croc meat is supposed to taste like a strange mix of chicken and fish.

Technically, you have to accept Jesus into your heart to be allowed into heaven. There is nothing saying that only christians can go to heaven. All it says in the bible is you have to accept and love Jesus. And for all those who will use the "sinner" argument - so long as you have accepted Jesus into your heart, then He will forgive you, as it directly states in the bible. "Love the sinner, not the sin."
