Is making bread more frugal?
Posted: 8/21/2009 1:41:45 PM
Well after reading some of these posts about how bread machines are evil I will have to post my opinion of them.

I LOVE my bread machine. I bought one that was brand new still in the box at a yard sale for $10 bucks. I wanted to try one but I wasn't going to spend a hundred bucks to play with one.

This thing ROCKS! The bread is perfect every time. Just put in your ingredients, make your selections for type of bread, crust, etc. and hit start.

Someone posted that they never saw a bread machine make 100% whole wheat bread. Well it works like a charm. I have a whole wheat loaf baking right now as I type this.

I do know how to make bread by hand and still will for special occasions but the bread machine is just to easy to not use it.

The cost is much more frugal also. For whites and wheat's it's about .50 cents or less to make a loaf. The pumpernickel and rye are a bit more but still less than half of what the store charges.

Hardest profession to date?
Posted: 10/24/2008 12:19:36 AM
This is exactly how I find out where people stand. I don't usually tell people my profession. It's not that I am embarassed or that I think people will be turned off, it's just that the vast majority of people are exactly what is on here. They actually read in to someones profession too much.

Most people cannot fathom that some people do what they do because it works with their life. Not because they actually love their job. I'll be the first to admit that I hate working. I don't give a crap about my job. But, I am very good at my job and I have many offers for other jobs. I don't have to love my job to make my world work. My job is not my life. My job is nothing like who I am.

I never judge people based on their job because they may be a person just like me. I am more turned off by someone who has a job that would be considered a life choice. People who are just too damn serious about what they do.

My bottom line is this... I work to live, I do not live to work.

Debt?
Posted: 10/23/2008 11:57:54 PM
I was in the same situation a few years back. Now I am debt free and just laugh at all the other people struggling to pay their bills.

When I started to tell my friends some years ago about making more money by spending less they all laughed. They were and still are caught up in all the consumer spending that everybody does. They said things like "how are you ever going to have a nice car?" or "how are you ever going to buy that boat you want?" and of course the ever popular "you HAVE to have a good credit score!" Blah blah blah and blah.

I buckled down, tightened my belt, and went at it. Now I can say that I am, aside from utility bills and taxes, debt free.

I pay everything in cash. It's quite amazing really. You will never find a place that says no to cash. You will never overspend when you only use cash. It's easy to see what you need versus what you want when you break out the dead presidents to make a payment.

Well you know what I have to say about a credit score? You don't need one when you pay in cash! I don't give a rats buttocks about a credit score. I probably have a decent one, but then again, I just don't care. I own my home (bought small and paid small), I own my vehicles, I own my Sailboat, I eat well, I live well, I work as little as posible, I enjoy my life. I also sit and listen to people whine and cry about not having any money because of bills, LOL. So sorry, but then again I'm not. Screw them.

When people take out a loan or pay on credit to go on vacation, I'll take 30 days off and go sailing. Why? because I can an I have no bills and I have money in the ol' kitty.

Being debt free is the most liberating experience that anyone can ever get in todays world. It is the only time that you are almost free. You will never be free of the man if you own property but it is an acceptable loss.

I know you all must think I make all kinds of money and had a crapload in the bank to be able to do all this but the fact of the matter is I didn't. I probably make a whole lot less than most of you. I just decided that there was better way to spend my income that would benefit me more than spending it on creditors.

Unless it's for a house (and then buy what you actually need not what you need to pretend you live on HGTV) you should never go into debt. If you can't pay for it in cash you can't afford it!

Don't fall into the credit trap. It's pure evil. I work with people who are so over extended it's just nuts. They struggle to make rent and pay off the credit cards and still whine about not having enough for the kids this or that. STOP IT! Get a clue and make a plan! No matter what you make you don't have to live like that.

If you remember one thing from my post remember this:

"There are two ways to enslave a nation. One is by the sword. The other is by debt." - John Adams 1826

Cheerwine Punch

Cheerwine is not exclusive to NC. I can get it here in VA.

This stuff sounds pretty good but I think I'll have to add some rum or vodka to it.

Make ahead alcohol drinks
Posted: 7/29/2008 11:01:41 PM
Not so slushy, but good to make ahead for a party.

Punch

Take a big pitcher and add:
1/3 bourbon
1/3 Peach Schnapps
1/3 Cranberry juice

Apple Pie

½ gal Apple cider
1 cup vodka
1 cup bourbon (your Favorite)
One or two cinnamon sticks

Remove two cups and a sip or two of cider from the jug
Replace with the vodka and bourbon add the cinnamon sticks
Place out of sight for a week or so till the cinnamon sticks dissolve.

This stuff tastes great, like cinnamon apple pie. Do not be tricked by the taste, it has some butt kickin' abilities to it.

Is microwave cooking bad for you?
Posted: 7/15/2008 7:42:01 PM
In my opinion, they are horrible to use. They turn food toxic.

Here's a fun little experiment you can do at home. After you do it, then you make the call about whether you think a microwave is safe.

Take 2 small flower pots (or cups or whatever) add the same kind of soil to each.
Put a seed into each pot.
Label them something like #1 and#2

Now, add regular water to #1. Then add water that you have microwaved to boiling (and allowed to cool) to #2.

Add water as required and sit back and watch what happens. Do they both sprout at the same time? Do they sprout at all?

The seed that has been watered with microwaved water will not sprout.

There has been quite a bit of data showing that eating microwaved food is very hazardous to your health.

Chicken Salad
Posted: 7/14/2008 11:51:58 PM
TBLZ...

Do the same thing but break it down to how much you want. But try this...

Take about 1/4 of the cold cooked chicken and really dice it up to cooked chicken dust. You could/can use a food prosessor for this if you have enough. There is your binder.

50/50 mayo and sour cream, fresh herbs (or not), celery, onion (if you like it), salt n' pepper, some garlic (optional), finely diced pickle, and anything else you like.

How about one without mayo? That has to be the most disgusting substance on earth! Notes?!

Sour cream.

Peeing in the sink.
Posted: 7/14/2008 11:37:10 PM

Guys can pee upright, sideways and sitting down so it's no surprise that those who are uncouth will pee in the sink. Meanwhile, a woman must sit down to do her business ... not much of a choice. Therefore, it might be a bit difficult for her to park herself onto the sink.

Uncouth guys? Oh c'mon. What? Are you still going to believe that a woman has to sit down to pee? That's just stupid.

Women can and do pee standing up, or at the very least, not sitting down. Women have the ability, but they would rather just choose to beeotch about where men pee. It's just a "thing" for women, who know's why.

Hell, women still think that the toilet in their brand new house hasn't been soiled on. NEWS FLASH! It was used like a toilet in a bath house! The worst part is most of the "stuff" was prior to water hookup. Mmmm, that must be nice to know that all those floors have pee soaked into them.

how many trekkies hate enterprise?
Posted: 7/13/2008 8:30:02 PM
I didn't like it at first but I grew to like it pretty well. I like some of the characters and I am one who doesn't mind the whole "soap" thing going on. I like following a story longer than one episode.

Yea they used too much time travel. But I think ST in general over uses the whole time travel thing way too much.

DS9, in my opinion is the best series of all Star Trek especially the last few seasons. I thought the characters were the best, and the writing, for the most part, was fantastic.

Now if you want to talk about a Sci Fi soap opera how about Battlestar Galactica? Now that is one bad ass Sci Fi series!

gun control in the usa

You all are still arguing about guns?

At least we know now that it IS the right of an individual to "bear arms". So

Bottom line is that some of are armed and some of us aren't. I do happen to fall into the former of the two. Not only that but I "carry" all the time and you all anti-gunners don't even know it.

Ya gotta love a multi state CCW permit.

Peeing in the sink.
Posted: 6/30/2008 11:47:26 PM
I make it a point to pee in any sink that I have lockable access to. If for no other reason than to PISS you all off!

Sinks, showers, bathtubs, toilets, backyards, floor drains, down spouts, bottles, out car windows, when it's time to pee, it's time to pee.

I'm glad my girl doesn't have a pee hangup. It's just pee folks. Nothing weird about it. It's just pee.

If some girl wanted to hop up on my counter and pee in the sink... I would give her a boost.

You all are freeking out about a guy peeing in the sink when women toss used tampons around in public toilets like confetti. It is absolutling discusting what women do in public bathrooms! The womens bathroom is always more discusting than the mens bathroom. So the ladies here have very little room to talk.

I'd rather have pee in my sink than some of that rotted fuzzy crap stuck to some of the dishes I've seen in a sink.

Microchipping your child
Posted: 6/30/2008 11:30:14 PM
So you get a good ID on the body? Thats IF it's ever found.

All those "fingerprints for kids safety" is bullshit. The cops don't ever find a kid because you gave them fingerprints of your child at a "fingerprint fair". They may use that info you gave them to identify a body, but kids aren't found by the fingerprints. It's just one more way to get their fingerprints into the "system".

So you get your kid this microchip that people stick into pets. It's not a tracking device, it's just a way to identify the "thing" after it is found.

If you really wanted a way to keep your children more safe, you would argue for an "ankle" type bracelet. Like the one's people on home release use. You would just have to figure out a way that makes it impossible for anyone else to remove it.

Maybe you could implant a GPS device in the cranium of your child that is powered by brainwaves. That way if your child is abducted you could track your kid by Satellite. Then again that would mean the abductor would have to kill the child imiediately to make the thing stop transmiting. Or maybe they would just cut off the head and keep the rest. Who knows.

Then again, you could just be more responsible parents.

I'd be interested to see whether D.C. will accept CCW permits from VA as legal or not, in the future.

Well at least the anti-gun freaks who wanted an all out ban on guns can kindly shut the F' up now. Yea, I know, they will still whine about it and blame guns for all the bad in the country.

How do you deal with unsolicited sales calls?
Posted: 6/26/2008 2:48:45 PM
I'm on the do not call list and it has seriously weeded out the phone calls. For the ones that have the guts to call me, I am as rude and crude as I can be and ask them about the most nasty things I can think of. They always hang up.

For the dreaded JW's, I always tell them the same thing. When they ask if I have a few minutes to talk, I answer, "You know, talking about religion is actually one of my favorite subjects. But after I am done talking, you all will still be wrong, and I will still be right. But thanks anyway."

McCains 300 million dollar prize!
Posted: 6/24/2008 1:02:30 AM
They don't have to prevent the invention of the electric car in Sweden. They will simply allow the oil giants to control the power to charge these so called cars (which they already do) and still get paid by the energy giants.

You just can't start taxing electricity with transportation costs out of nowhere. People are still living in the bubble that somehow electricity will be cheaper than gas. I'm mearly pointing out that what people keep reading about a .03 cents a mile car is dead before it even exists. It can't happen with our existing systems. Maybe it will work for people who want to spend a ton of money but it isn't going to work for the masses anytime soon.

You can pay for the roads by not paying for bullshit policies. Lower government spending, term limits, trash pork spending, line item veto, etc.

Oddly enough the government could probably come up with a solution to make up for lost revenues. A tax on electricity?

Geeze that was hard.

Gee, just one more frucking tax on electricity. Hard to figure out? No. Hard to digest? Uh, yea.

Oddly enough the government never wants to lower taxes and spend less money to lower the direct financial impact on the people.

The answer is always taxing the people more. Geeze that was hard.

Al Gore was and is a putz. Every single person that is elected into office always beeotches about the previous party and never does anything to fix it. Then they get out of office and beeotch about the new party in office and does nothing but cast blame.

Obama is a joke. What is this great change? More friggin taxes? I am sick and tired of more taxes! Cut them all off! Vote them all out! F'ck the democrats! F'ck the republicans!

Vote independent!

Drilling Alaska and offshore is ten years away ...even Bush will admit to that reality....and then what? Same old shit antique engines for 200 years?

Why do I even care about what happens in two hundred years? I just need affordable gas for maybe 50 years and thats pushing it.

How about some other people in a hundred years or so can figure this shit out. As for right now I need cheaper gas and fuel for my furnace.

EASY, One-Person, Few Ingredients Recipes??
Posted: 6/23/2008 11:34:27 PM
Super easy canned soup for two.

1 can of cream-o-whatever soup (mushroom, celery, chicken, potato, etc.)
1 can corn
1 can diced potatoes
1 soup can milk
salt and pepper to taste
You can also sub other canned veggies for any of those listed like cut asparagus, "fiesta corn", beans, peas, mushrooms, etc.
You can also add some chicken or veggie stock also instead of milk or even with milk. A little water will even work in a pinch.

Heat and eat.

Southern Comfort and a Long, Slow Comfortable Scr*w Against the Wall
Posted: 6/23/2008 11:22:55 PM
Kinda a cool name that came from some bartender, somewhere.

A slow - Sloe gin
Comfortable - SoCo
Screw - Orange Juice and Vodka (from the screwdriver of course)
Against the wall - Galliano (because it's the tallest bottle out there so it's always 'against' the wall)

If you really want to light a fire try this one:

Apple Pie

½ gal Apple cider
1cup vodka
1 cup bourbon (your Favorite)
One or two cinnamon sticks
Remove two cups and a sip or two of cider from the jug
Replace with the vodka and bourbon add the cinnamon sticks
Place out of sight for a week or so till the cinnamon sticks dissolve

You may want to be a bit easy at consumption time because this will taste like cinnamon flavored apple cider but have a serious ass kickin' effect.

stuffed shrimp with crab wrapped in bacon
Posted: 6/23/2008 11:10:54 PM
Now you want a good crabcake recipe? Oh noooo.... Don't you know that those recipes are guarded to the grave?

Just pick one with the least ingriedients to start with. Crab, little bread crumbs, spices, crab, a little binder, more crab, maybe a splash of worsch, crab... There is a crabcake thread from awhile ago if you do a search for it. It will be a little more specific.

Without knowing what exactly you had, I'd just take some nice shrump (yes I said shrump) and butterfly them, stuff with crab meat, wrap them up with bacon, and broil them puppies.

PickUp Trucks run Empty
Posted: 6/23/2008 10:51:19 PM
I'll jump in late.

How many days is my PickUp bed filled 75% to capacity? Is that weight capacity or volume?

Either way, mine is filled most of the year. With a few days here and there I have to actually unload the bed to wash it. I have a one ton and I will say that it probably doesn't have 1500 lbs in the bed most of the time, but I can tell you that the stuff I put into the bed is nothing you would ever put into a "car" type truck.

I do have several other vehicles that I use for economy, and I can put a bunch of stuff in the trunks. I can lay down the back seats in two of them and stuff even more shit into them if I want to.

It's not so much what another type of vehicle can do, is why I own a truck. It's what the other vehicles can't do, is why I own a truck.

I tow ALOT of trailers. All those "cars" you mentioned earlier on would cack out by just parking beside the loads I pull. I'd like to see you hook that Aztec or whatever up to a tri-axle trailer with a 36' Scarab on it and yank it down the east coast to Florida. Are you going to hook up an enclosed tri-axle two car hauler to one of those Honda things you mentioned?

I also would really like to see you hook up to my 3800 lb, 21' cuddy and pull it to the water, maybe you will make it there, but I can guarantee you that you aren't going to be pulling it up that wet, goose shit laden ramp without some help. If I only had a dollar every time I have to pull some schmucks wannabe baby truck and trailer up the launch ramp because they don't know d!ck about hauling, I'd go buy a new truck!

Just remember this when towing anything, pulling a load isn't the hardest part, stopping the load is. Another tried and true reason to own a real truck.

Don't even give me that BS about load securement. I have seen more idiots trying to load shit they just bought at Lowes into and on top of their cars, only to see it all on the road 3 blocks later than I can count.

Your acting like PickUp trucks are the problem on the roads. When in fact it's just idiot drivers across the board. I'd even say that most people who have a license to drive should not have that license to drive, ANYTHING!

I own a truck because I need a truck. I don't need one of those little prepubescent pansey assed mini truck/cars your pushing. I need a big ass diesel, 4X4, with duel wheels, and a crew cab!

I'll haul your load if you'll haul mine.

McCains 300 million dollar prize!
Posted: 6/23/2008 9:57:21 PM

The problem is that all of the right wing is against regulating much of anything. Why? Obviously, they're in bed with big money and big money does NOT like to be regulated. It started with Regan and we're all paying a very high price for it now. But with Obama in office in January, that will all change.

Yea your right, it's only the right wing who in bed with big money! Are you F'en serious?! ALL of them are in bed with big money! You want to see big money? Look who's grabbing the big bucks from the pharma industry, EVERYBODY! You think that it's only the republicans who make money off of oil? They all are!

Obama ain't gonna do d!ck in office, IF he gets in. Just like Al gore, the inventer of the internet and the Global Warming guru didn't do d!ck when he was VP. Even with a democrat controlled congress he didn't do shit.

The democrats and the rupublicans are NOT the answer. The dems suck and the repubs blow. Every single thing that you can think of that you don't like about our government is brought to you by... Yup, you guessed it, a democrat or a republican.

Anyhoo, I think it's a good idea to try to come up with some new technology to get this electric car thing going. If it takes offering up some cash to make it happen, then thats what it'll take.

I think a great way to start would be to introduce a car that has a top speed of, say 45 or 55 mph and a slower pick up speed. That way you can maximize the energy you have for distance rather than speed. I think it would be great for the city dwellers.

But the big problem will arise when alot of people start to buy electric vehicles. You must take note that right now there is no transportation tax on electricity. Once more people start to use electric vehicles you can bet your arse that they will tax the crap out of it.

Then someone will have to come up with a way to figure out how much electric power you are using for your car and how much your using for your house. They'll probably start by making electric cars have some kind of special plug or something. Then people will figure out a way around that using adapters and such. Then? Will they then just tax the ever living shit out of all electricity? Or will they just tax the hell out of the cars themselves?

You can't actually believe that the government is going to sit there and watch some company come out with an affordable electric vehicle that can be charged with solar panels "off the grid" and just watch all those transportation taxes go down the drain do you?

Here's another problem. If everybody that owns a car could trade it for an electric car tomorrow, every grid would have to be upgraded. That would be bazillions! The electric grid couldn't handle that much increase in power consumption. Hell, there's rolling brownouts now because people crank up the AC, what would happen if everyone started driving an electric car?

Then lets get to the creature comforts of these electric cars. How could an electric car have an adequate heater/defroster and AC that most people love so much? Do you realize how much juice it takes to power a heater or an AC unit? Too much. People are just now trying to get an electric car to carry enough on board power to go a decent distance much less trying to figure out a way to power a heater, AC, stereo systems, cell phone chargers, etc.

It's a great idea but I can't see how this could happen anytime in our near future and it won't happen for the masses until the government figures out a way to control it.

You Know what I really Hate...
Posted: 6/23/2008 8:55:18 PM
Just mix the peanut butter and jelly together before you slather it on the bread. Peanut butter and honey kicks butt too!

Me and one of my boater friends were out on the river one day and saved a guy from drowning. This guy thought he could swim across and realized about half way that he couldn't. I mean, this guy was sinking fast! I was barely able to see a head pop up. But Seaspot to the rescue!

So anyway, I save this dude from drowning. I swear, I have never seen another human being like that before, this guy was on his last breath, literally. After we got him back to shore and he started to regain his grey matter he expressed how much he loved us and his undying grattitude for being in the right place at the right time. No problem, we told him, all in a days work, we were just happy we were there.

So, as I sit in my boat a little later on, pondering how bad that situation could have been, I remember thinking to myself that with that act of saving a persons life I had surely filled up my good karma tanks...

NO! A stinkin' water pig comes along side and busts me for not having enought life preservers aboard my boat! I had forgot that I lended one of them to another buddy, so I was one short! Even after I explain to him what had just happened, he still gave me a ticket! That ticket cost me almost $200 bucks!

Is there certain words that you hate?
Posted: 6/23/2008 8:22:55 PM
Not really. Words are just words. There are some phrases that I really dislike but you were asking for words.

I really don't like when people can't speak right. Words like dis or dat for this or that, or we be/I be/you be instead of I am, you are, and we are, Teef for teeth, axed for asked, etc. But I really don't hate the words. I find it rather funny that people are so ignorant that they speak like that.

Another word I find humorous in a wierd way is "twice-t" pronounced like "twiste", for saying that you did something twice but you end the word "twice" with a 't' sound. Like, "I called you yesterday, twice-t"

But all in all, words don't bother me. I think every word out there has a proper time and place for it to be used no matter how offensive some people may find it.

I'll stick with my VW TDI. I get better mileage, I got four doors and a trunk, I can cruise at 100 MPH and the car loves it, great handling, rates at the top in safety for it's class.

I wouldn't buy a smart car and here is why...I am waiting for the air cars to hit the market. I don't see the point in purchasing another vehicle that is gas reliant. I say, it is probably only a matter of time before better fuel alternatives come about.

You'll be waiting a long time for that air car, for sure. They have been squawking about those things for at least the last 10 years. By the way, the idea for a compressed air powered car goes back to at least the 1930's, so it's not a new idea.

I'm sure you realize that it takes more energy in the form of electricity to compress the air needed to operate one of these so-called "air cars" than the power you actually obtain from the compressed air. This is where people make the mistake in thinking that a "air car" would be so much better than fuel. You would be better off having a total electric car than to convert electricity to compressed air to power a vehicle.

With gas prices so insane, anyone else out there glad they are driving a smart car?
Posted: 6/8/2008 7:42:43 PM
Hey, thats not bad. So,thats about 42.5 MPG (miles per gallon) for us over here in the states. 550 kms is about 341 miles and 30 litres is about 8 gallons.

I don't have a smart car, but I do have a VW Jetta TDI (diesel) that gets 52 MPG. So with 30 litres of fuel I could get about 669 kms.

Oh Rover, feeel the love!! Hey man it ain't nothin' but a thing. You'll get it, and then you'll be like, what in hell was I ever thinking.

Yes, cook it like you do indoors! Then tweak it the next time. If I told you how I cooked mine I'd have to kill you, LOL. Actually, if I told you how I cook my steak it probably wouldn't be right for you.

Just remember that heat from charcoal is friggin HOT! You can always put a little charcoal on one side and let it get going and then some "meat" (roast, loin, etc.) on the other side and let it go low and slow.

Steaks!? I get'em on and off. Super hot and fast. But I like mine with some crispy char outside and all that free red sauce that comes out when I cut it open. But thats me.

You are really close to hittin' this thing out of the park. Try it again. Maybe buy yourself some cheaper cuts for your "friends" and experiment, LOL. Hey, here's a good one, try some burgers! Those are cheap, can be thrown away if need be, and give you more experimenting.

Damn'it! You have got to get this thing! We can't lose another to the dark side of gas grills!

Does anyone watch Top Chef?
Posted: 6/5/2008 9:51:58 PM
If Richard does not win Top Chef it's because he screwed himself. He has the most talent at this point.

Lisa, she's luckey she's made it this far.

Steph, I do like her but I just don't see the fire in her eyes. But it is probably about time that this show let a female win, so it may just happen this season.

I do like Top Chef. I've watched since the first season. I think it's the best show out there for cooking challenges. But to actually think it's really a reality show is a little much.

If you want to watch a reality show that is as close as any reality show can get, watch The Deadliest Catch. No cooking, but a real deal.

Why do so many people seem to hate cops?
Posted: 6/5/2008 9:25:26 PM
If your family member was missing, hurt, attacked, home vandalised, shop broken into, car stolen, or anything else you will be the first to call the cops and you know what thats rightly so, because thats our job.

Bullshit! I had a car stolen before. Did I call the cops? Only after I called the insurance company and they told me I had to call the cops for a report. The cops were like "Why didn't you call us first?" I said, because I know you guys don't give a shit about finding a stolen car, so I called my insurance company.

Thats your job? What a load of crap! your job is to collect taxes (by issuing tickets and arresting people) so that your locality can have more money to blow on bullshit projects and pay your salery.

Most people who hate cops as a group are living on the wrong side of the law.

This is the single biggest cop out that has ever been uttered. Believe it or not, people that are not and have not been on the "wrong" side of the law do in fact hate cops. Because they have wittnessed things that are not only illegal but flat out wrong and the perp was a cop.

But the cops secretly LOVE it when people use this phrase. The cops then know that person will believe a cop over anyone, and there it is, you've been duped.

Yes, there are some bad apples, but there are in every profession.

Apples and oranges. A bad mechanic may rip you off when fixing your car. A bad cop will lie about what really happened that night. A bad cab driver may take the long way around to pump up the fare a little more. A bad cop will take you for a ride that you will never forget. A bad lover may lie to you and break your heart. A bad cop will lie to you and the judge and the jury and you will go to prison.

There are "bad apples" as you say but the outcome of one bad cop has a HUGE impact on scociety. All cops know there are bad, dishonest cops within their ranks, but you never see a cop come out and blow the whistle on those cops. That alone makes all cops dishonest.

where I live, there are far to many officers patrolling the highway. they pick on the working class for the most stupid things.

For like what? Racing, drunk driving, littering, speeding, talking on the phone while driving, failure to use turn signals, road rage..........what exactly? In LA there are shootings on the highways again, I wish there were more CHP officers around.

WOW! Thats the same thing I see cops doing every single day! I was a bartender for years and the amount of cops that came in and got drunk and drove was ridiculus. Racing? Oh yea! I've even raced a few! Littering? I like it when they toss the plastic caps from the flares into the ditch. Speeding? I see that every day done by cops.

Talking on the phone? Yup, cops do that all the time to, but they are somehow the ONLY people on the planet that are able to do this without losing concentration. And along with this one, they are the only ones that somehow have super eyes to look around obstructions on the dash too. And they have super concentration to look at a laptop while driving. Oh yes, let us not forget, they are also super resilient to crashes that they don't need to wear a seat belt! Yes I know, it's for OUR safety to wear a seat belt. But obviously cops are so tuff they don't need one! So again, it ain't about safety folks, it's about money! Geeze, and all this time I thought cops were human! They must be SUPER HUMAN!

Failure to use turn signals!?!?! You have got to be kidding me! This is one of my biggest pet peaves and I cannot remember the last time I saw a cop use their turn signal. Or even stop at a stop sign, or stop before turning right on red, etc. etc.

In LA there are not that many shootings on the highways. Yes, any amount is too many. But in a cespool like LA what do you expect. And yet with the biggest police force in the country they rarely catch the perps. I guess it must be that there are too many cops on tax collection and drug busts. Oh yea, thats right, cops don't get federal grants for the amount of shooters on the highways they arrest but they do get federal dollars on drug convictions. Hmmmmm..... Thats just a kahwinkey dinkey.

Yea, I do hate cops. For all these reasons and a million more. I just can't stand to look at those sick twisted b-tards. I have known too many, over too many years, and unfortunately, I even have some of those b-tards in my own family. They sure were nice for the first few years of being on the job, now they're just aszholes.

Help! Car question.
Posted: 6/5/2008 8:11:20 PM
On one side I agree with the mechanic about the water pump. IF it goes bad later it will cost a shitload to fix and since he's already in there now it might be a good idea to replace it. It would save you on labor later.

The other side is even IF you did replace the water pump now, there's no guarantee that the new one will last any longer than the one thats aleady on your car. Even brand new parts can take a shit at any time.

Yup, it sucks to be in that position.

I'd go with what you are doing now. Do it without the pump and let it ride.

Living Without Debt/ Dave Ramsey

I sell cable for a living, and if you chose not to play their game and don't have a payment history on some kind of debt, it's likely I'll be charging you an extra 50 dollars just to turn your cable on as opposed to the guy who makes a credit card payment of 60 dollars every month.

Thats odd. My girlfriends son who is 22 years old, has zero credit, never had or has a credit card, and has never even had a drivers license, rented a place a couple months ago and the only utility he needed to make a deposit on was the electricity. He didn't need a home phone sense he has a cell phone (prepaid). He got a dish system with all the "stuff" (multiple rooms, dvr, etc.) and he got the new customer deal and doesn't pay anything extra.

It's a great idea in theory.
Unfortunately sooner or later, some sort of big expense is going to come up and you'll have to use credit in some form.

It would have to be one huge expense. As long as you make yourself an emergency fund you shouldn't have to use credit.

Who has several thousand dollars saved up for an emergency medical bill ?

Um...Me.

How long can you go without your car while you save up the cash to get it fixed ?

How long can I go without a car? Well actually a pretty long time since all 4 of them would have to break down before I didn't have one to drive and then I'd use my girlfriends car.

It's called back-ups! 2 of them were purchased with loans and paid off 4 1/2 years ago, the other one is a 4X4 that was bought in cash a couple years ago and is a toy, but legal. And the last was one I bought in cash this year after selling my Nissan Titan because I hated the payment. That Titan was the hardest choice though. I had already paid on it for a couple years and it still looked cherry. But I had to make the choice of paying on it a couple more years or sell it and make a little bit (really, a little tiny bit), and walk away without any car payments. I sold it and walked. I am so much happier now that I don't send them any more payments. Yea I admit it, I like vehicles.

Almost everyone could afford a back-up vehicle. There's all kinds of used cars and trucks out there to be had at decent prices for a decent ride. If you have a person you really trust, and I mean really trust, you can even go halfsies. My bro and I bought a truck a while back (we've since sold it) together just to have access to a truck and for another back-up vehicle and that worked out great. We spent very little money on it, did some maintenance and when it was getting ready to pop, we sold it for parts.

I think it's good to put things on a CC when you have enough cash to pay for it. Pay your CC off completely every month, and you'll still be debt free but you'll be building your credit rating and have something to fall back on in case of an unforseen emergency.

You don't have to charge anything and pay it off to have a CC for an unforseen emergency. Trust me the CC companies will let you keep it with no balance for "an emergency". But, if you didn't play the game, and you have no debt, why would you even need a CC for a unforseen emergency? At that point you should already have enough in savings to cover said emergency.

By the way, paying your CC off every month in full won't get you great credit.

F* those credit pushers! Stop playing their game. Take your financial life back.

Would it be dumb for me to start some new coals at the same time I put meat on so the new coals will be screaming hot to finish the steak?

The "new" coals are not the ones that are screaming hot. The ones that are white ashen are the hot ones.

I think you should just try to lower your grate down closer to the coals to get the "crispy" outer finish.

You "rest" the steak and then throw it back on? Why? To cook it again? OH MY.... I think I'm getting dizzy, I need a drink after reading that.

Yea, I've heard of him. I've listened to quite a few of his shows but have never gone through one of his programs. I do think that if more people actually listened to him and tried to implement some of his advice they would be alot better off.

For those of you who have not heard of him, do you think it is possible to live debt and credit free? I mean, yeah, at some point, I think you might hve to have some debt for a house, even though Dave Ramsey doesn't advocate it, but I'm just curious if anyone has ever tried it or has attempted it.

Is it possible? Yes. Have I attempted it? Yes

It was one of his shows that I was listening to about 4 years ago that made me realize that I needed to change the way I using my money. My only debt as of earlier this year is my house mortgage, my utility bills, insurance, and taxes.

I tried to be smart when I bought my house 8 years ago. I found one at far below market value (I found a guy who needed to get out because of a nasty divorce), got a really low fixed interest rate, and didn't over buy . My mortgage is about 1/3 of what a person would pay for a really small apartment around here. At this point I should have it paid off in another 6 years.

I have no credit card debt, I used to but I paid the last of it off this year. I have no vehicle loans. I did have 1 vehicle that I was making payments on but decided to sell it off at the beginning of this year and went out and bought another in cash. I just couldn't stomach making the payments anymore when I was so close to no debts.

I can tell you that it will liberate you in ways that you can only imagine! I can finally wake up in the morning and smile knowing that I don't owe a bunch of companies money. I know that no matter how bad things can get I could make the minimum payment on my house working at a fast food restaurant or pan handling, LOL.

The biggest suggestion is what I'm sure you already know... If you can't pay for it in cash, you can't afford it.

Just start knocking those credit cards and loans off one by one. Start off by paying off the smallest one first. Just so you can get the taste of freedom quicker when you throw it away. This will really make you start to rethink how you spend your money. Then start knocking them off one by one. You can pay the minimums on some while using the bulk of your money to knock one down faster. Then when that ones gone, do it to the next. Each time you knock one out you will have more money to knock the next one out.

Another thing is be very careful about those credit counseling services. The ones that say they can lower you credit card bills, etc. Those will trash your credit almost as much as bankruptcy will. That is, if you care about such things. Because in reality, if you live without any debt you have no real use for credit ratings anyway.

Do you believe that Video games are programming children to be better soldiers ?
Posted: 6/1/2008 7:51:58 PM
Has anyone else noticed that most of the new remote weapons that are in development use controllers that look just like the XBOX contollers?

Thats not saying that the kids were programmed by the games, just that the military is utilizing a device that is second nature to the kids today.

Charcoal BBQ

I LOVE to cook on the grill. And I do own a gas grill and a charcoal grill. This should tell you how much I use my gas grill, the bottle is rusted and is the old school style with the round knob to turn it on. Just the other day I was staring at this propane in the ass, thinking I should just take it apart and make me a outdoor "stove" by adding "burners" to it.

I don't care how fast a gas "grill" can heat up compared to how much time it takes to fire up the charcoal, charcoal is the BEST!

I spend half my life on my boat and most of the boaters out there have a grill onboard (the stainless steel Magma's are huge in the boating world). I would say that I am one of the few boaters that uses a charcoal fired Magma grill. It's the only way to grill on the water or land for that matter.

As I have always said and will always continue to say, gas is for cooking, charcoal is for grilling.

F''k gas outdoor cookery units!

It is interesting.

But once you consider the amount of energy used to get salt water to burn you can see that it is not feasable to do. With all the electricity used to get the sea water to do that, it would have been better to just recharge your battery powered car.

Cartoons you saw as a kid...
Posted: 5/26/2008 10:09:43 PM
I think you all pretty much named them all.

I was a Looney Toon junky! Hannah Barbara 'toons were cool too, but nothing beat the Looney Toons.

Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Marvin the Martian (I have the most kick ass Marvin Christmas tree topper ever!) Elmer Fudd, Indian Joe, Road Runner, etc. etc. etc. Oh, let us not forget one of the BEST Looney EVER! Pepe LePew.

I saw some posters mention Land of the Lost. Cool show right there! Remember the Sleestacks? I think Kevin Smith really nailed it on Jay and Silent Bob with Will Farrell's character Marshall Willenholly. That came on with Dr. Shrinker and Wonder Bug for awhile.

They even had that one, I think it was Chopper with a bunch of animated motorcycles which later on they used the same voices for those "scrubbing bubbles" bathtub cleaner.

What about Super Friends? Aquaman, Wonder Twins, etc.? Anyone remember those? "Wonder Twin power, activate!"

Tiny Tunes were pretty cool too, "We're tiny, we're toony. We're all a little looney..."

Hey, since some of you all remember Speed Racer and Kimba, how about Marine Boy? Remember, he had those "jets" on his shoes and always used a boomerang. Anyone?

How about Jonny Sako and his Robot?

Too bad all the good toons got tagged not politically correct and were replaced with all this bullshit thats been on.

I win international lotteries all the time, you should see my email inbox!

Otherwise, I got a couple trophies for baseball back in the day. I've won a few concert tickets over the years. I won some ribbons (mostly Blue) at local fairs for things ranging from cookies to a massive stucture built out of toothpicks and elmers glue.

I once won a FREE 3 night trip to Las Vegas at a restaurant on super bowl sunday only to find out that my free trip would cost me $900 bucks in "processing fees". So needless to say, I didn't take my free trip.

hangover cures wanted!!

Well, according to that show Manswers a doctor said if you drink some Prickly Pear juice (available at health food stores) prior to drinking you won't get a hangover.

I still believe that there is no such thing as a hangover, only lack of sleep. But if your getting hangovers, then you obviously are not a professional.

But if you need a boost in the AM, slam some Red Bulls. If you need a jump start and a hair of the dog, try Joose. It is 9.9% alcohol and has a serious ass kickin' energy boost to it.

Otherwise, suck it up and get on with it!

Ok, what about a clown named Buttons?
