How come we all get so picky after 30?
Posted:

it's bizarre.
I was thinking about this exact same topic earlier today after a chat with a co-worker.
There are x number of single men in the world and x number of single women.
I don't know who is more picky, but I would say we live in a society that is dictated by media (for the most part) and all signs point to us being happy with ourselves..which really can be a tough call some days! The problem I see is that we get so ingrained in our own passions and excitement that we sometimes miss the passion and excitement that other people could bring into our lives. I generally message people who have something funny or interesting to say in their profiles. Something that catches my eye and is beyond the 'norm'.
And if I'm not their cup of tea...well, too bad for them ;)

kissing
Posted:
7/14/2006 3:20:25 PM
I had this happen to me once in a club.
We were walking towards each other..both with friends and did the awkward I move this way, he moved that way..blocking each other's path. I looked up at him and he looked down and planted one on me.
It was the best kiss I've ever had! :) Not hungry, not simple..it was wonderfully warm, welcoming and the way I've love to be kissed forever.
When we broke apart and continued on...my friend said.."Did you know that guy??" I said "no".
She laughed and said that his friend had said to her.."Do they know each other?"
I guess chemistry is chemistry..wherever it happens.

I have pictures, but they aren't hidden.
They remind me of so many different things during that time of my life.

Has Tim Horton's become the loser boyfriend dating mecca?
Posted:

I'm not hip to the idea of meeting for a coffee at Tims...I much prefer meeting at a Second Cup (NO Starbucks!) or a Timothy's. It's generally cleaner, quieter and has cozier seating arrangements rather than being directly beside other people.
Just my 2 cents :)

Just a quick question to see if anyone is into Geocaching?
I've wanted to try it for ages..but need a GPS unit...
Is there anyone else that might be into this sort of thing?

Do you remember your first passionate kiss and who it was with?
Posted:
5/8/2006 8:32:18 PM
I played basketball over at his house. I was 15 and he was 17.
Met through a friend and when he walked us back to our house, I remember him pulling me back from the group and he kissed me.
....and it was pretty bad....*LOL*
But it was my first real kiss-kiss.
The most passionate kiss was with a Dutch friend who was over on a boy scout exchange(we were both junior leaders)....mainly cause it was a surprise, but also, so desired. :)

Cell Phone Ettiquette?
Posted:
4/27/2006 9:01:27 PM
My part time gig is in retail and there's nothing that bothers me more than someone chatting on the phone while I'm trying to help them!
If someone comes into the store on the phone, I don't even greet them as is company policy. They are always loud, pushy and requesting things left, right and centre.
"Don't you have anything nicer??" Arrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
I don't talk to them at the register if they are still on the phone. I point to the total and carry on...not smiling, etc. I should just hold out and not help them, but there's always someone behind them who is patiently waiting and at least I get a break with them...and we generally gripe about cell phones. :)
Please people...when dealing with people in public...don't be chatting away to someone else.
Earpieces are the WORST....most of the time, I think you're chatting to me...not your friend who just called.

Hey Power...Definitely showcase your sense of humour.
Obviously you emailed her because something in her profile or picture jumped out at you..be sure to mention it in the subject line :)
Simply saying Hi is a great opening line and is not pretentious and comes across as very genuine and friendly and non-threatening.
Continue from there..I'm sure you'll do just fine!

I see what you mean firmbear, but the read/no reply or read/delete is the same as being rejected...hence, they just don't even start or..maybe they just aren't into us. Which is fine too *shrugs*

Men (I think) are just as nervous about being rejected as we are!
There are tons of women out there willing to just go after what they want and by just hanging back, we miss out on someone who we actually think might suit us! On a personal note, I'm horrid at going after I want usually until it's too late, but I am trying to change that as well. :)
Edit: *whooohoo....I'm FINALLY on top!*

Nervousness....how do you handle it?
Posted:
4/25/2006 3:58:44 PM
Hmmmmm...each nervous session I suppose is different.
If it's a phone call that I'm not looking forward to making, I always draft a mini script(man, is that weird or what?)
and if it's public speaking or meeting someone new, I always put on a smile and try to "act" my way through it...ie. How would I act if I wasn't nervous/didn't care/wasn't attracted/etc.
Then..just jump in, it's always worse for you than for the person you're dealing with.
Good luck :)

sleeping with a friend.....
Posted:
4/25/2006 3:48:25 PM
Hmmm..I've never actually slept with a friend. That said, I did have a friend a long time ago that I would've made the exception with. I was too chicken though to ever pursue it, so no big deal now. *shrugs*
I think if this person truly is a friend, then they will completely understand that it was a one time thing. (That's also the thing...it can only ever be a one time thing otherwise, the relationship will change indefinitely.)

I've only been to 2 parties myself, but had an amazing time and found everyone so friendly, accomodating and more than happy to introduce you to whomever they know and very open about introducing themselves! All in all it's been an excellent opportunity to meet some wonderful people.
Both times I wore jeans and that seems to be the norm (denim of some sort-skirt, jeans, etc) and felt completely at ease.
I'll definitely introduce myself should I recognize you out on the dance floor. :)
Cheers!

Hmmmm..good question.
I usually send emails to profiles that catch my eye or people I've seen in the forums that seem kinda like someone I could hang out with.
I also get replies back for the most part, but nothing that really requires me to dig deeper which is a shame.. I.e.no questions, comments, etc.

do women think too much?
Posted:
4/6/2006 7:32:20 AM
I have a theory on the male/female thought pattern.
Most women I know talk around the issue (thinking that men also think around the issue)..very much like a puzzle. If he says this, maybe he means this. If I say this, he'll know I mean this. (I'm getting better at not doing this! :) )
However, most men I know think in straight lines. They hit the point. The aim for the bullseye and hit it. They say what they mean.
I think the problem lies in each gender not really recognizing that we think very differently. Okay, maybe not recognizing, but not accepting and adjusting to the fact that we think differently. :)
I guess that's my 'round about answer. ;)

Remember the Blackout
Posted:
4/5/2006 6:47:00 PM
I remember that day being very much unlike any day had been earlier.
I was given a ride into Toronto for school (I live in the GTA and always park at Yorkdale and take the subway) from my brother. We had stopped earlier and got gas and money from the ATM..I never do that!
Power went off while I was downtown, my brother was around the corner, so we met up and went with a bunch of my classmates for drinks. Waited until most of the people left the city and the sun started going down. Got on the DVP to head north and I remember seeing all the abandonned cars along the highway. Looking back at the skyline, it looks like a ghost town..a dark grey silhouette against an orange sky. Very bizarre.
That night, we BBQ'd and listened to the radio via my battery powered walkman and played board games.

Would you date a guy without a car
Posted:
4/5/2006 3:43:48 PM
Here's my deal.
I live outside the city with little (extremely little) public transit.
I have had a car since I was 16 and look at it as not only a right of passage into becoming an adult, but also represents a TON of responsibility. (Which yes, does include gas, insurance, repairs, parking, regular maintenance, a lesson on credit & finance, budgeting, and planning ahead -to not drink, who to pick up, yada yada yada.)
I would date a person without a car provided he had a license and could rent a car. I can completely see not having a car if you live in the city..but a license is something I would prefer the men I date to have. Besides as my profile states..roadtrips are fun, and part of that is the driving! :)

Relationships Is HE/SHE into you
Posted:
4/3/2006 9:19:57 PM
Hmmm....good question.
Easy to tell when someone wants to kiss you, but harder to find out whether or not they are into you. I think I definitely need to be told..I'm clueless.
I do however have no qualms about telling people that I'm into them. Life is simply too short.
It has something to do with a line from a Josh Ritter song..

Hey J...It is a great place..and tons of microbrews on tap (Highly recommended Church Key -not only cause I'm related to the brewmaster-but it's amazing beer!)
Bier Markt is great too, but for different reasons. I'd definitely rather his C'est What on a date than the Bier Markt.
Oh..also in Markham/Richmond Hill in Times Square(corner of Leslie & Hwy7) there's a crazy Japanese candy place...fantastic stuff..way cool flavours. Ten Ren Tea company is around there too.

How about the Sultan's Tent downtown?
Mandatory to hit C'est What with their beer list (Bier Markt is great too..but not as cozy and more expensive & packed)
Also recommend Sushi Island on College.
Hope that helps.
