“Nottingham’s Walkabout Party” 7th March 2009
Posted: 3/6/2009 5:14:49 PM
Gonna try and make this one, pop along see some old and some new faces, drink, dance and let my (non-existent) hair down for a bit, accompanied by the lavverly 'errr indoors'.....Barberella! Proof indeed that the meets do indeed work

So long since I've been to a POF meet (December I think), that I'm gonna feel like a meet virgin all over again

Seriously folks, it is said on these Forums a lot but it can't be said enough, the POF meets are a brilliant way of making new friends, and, who knows, maybe finding something more. The hosts are fab and very welcoming, and once you've attended one, the meets can get very addictive.

Catch you all there tomorrow night

DERBY CHRISTMAS PARTY. Zanzibar. December 12th. IMAGES & COMMENTS
Posted: 12/16/2008 1:34:57 AM
Despite not drinking too much I still had a superb night, another resounding success courtesy of Barbelbil, and a big shout to him for his continued work in organising these events, and the painstaking photo work that follows.

Thanks to the usual people for their friendship....my beloved Barberella, Frantic Romantic, KLH (ta for the lift!), A Supermum, Suzi, Swadsteve, Chris & Leanna, Shimmer, Lesleyy, Rainy, Hazelrose, Outdoorguy....and definitely a load more people whose site names I should know by now but don't

Great to see plenty of newcomers filling the place and getting in the festive spirit. Big shout to Tracy & Vonny (hope the dancefloor injuries are on the mend!) and everyone else who came to party and had a good time

Catch you all at Halo then!

Saw 5!!
Posted: 12/11/2008 3:31:38 PM

I only recovered when I realised that John Pertwee was OK and living in a barn having been reincarnated as Wurzel Gummage then he took his head off............

I love the Saw series, and was looking forward to Saw V that much that I actually arranged a POF meet around it

All in all, the first installment remains unbeatable, although III and IV are excellent, but Saw V definitely lacked something. Possibly it was the new trap subjects that did little to stir sympathy or interest in the viewer. Still good though, and with an amazing ending, but here's hoping that the sixth one next autumn is better and has some genuinely shocking moments

Sorry you can't make it this time Mushy, hopefully catch you at another one soon mate.

Lot of Derby regulars signed up for this one, so if you are local, at a loose end for the evening and fancy a night out with a bunch of very friendly people, do add your name to the sizeable list of revellers already forming

Gonna be a great festive night out with all the Notts POF posse, most people will be feeling quite Christmassy by this event, and - let's face it - most will also have had a drink or seven so the night should be pretty lively!

Anyone who's still not been to a meet, you really don't know the good times that you're missing. Be brave, sign up, and you can guarantee that you won't regret it. The East Mids POF people really are that friendly so no-one feels left out and everyone has a good time

Magnificent idea Shimmer, I'm sure our favourite host will look reet festive with his wand

Derby parties are rightly famed for being very friendly, and with all the festive spirit present here on December 12th, this should definitely be one night to remember. Time to drink with old friends, make some new ones, and enjoy a fab night out with the usual suspects in Derby

I have that old and trusted feeling in me tummy once again that this is going to be a real corker of a Christmas Party

Most definitely Mr BB sir, I love the very cosy atmosphere of the Derby events and am looking forward to this one even more, as I missed the last one.

The last twelve months do seem to have flown by, but this has proven to be a really good venue. A Derby Christmas party here will be a night not to miss, amongst friends old and new, and with 3 full weeks left to sign up, it could attract a fair sized crowd too

Pics and Comments, Notts Walkabout meet, 15th Nov
Posted: 11/16/2008 3:17:48 PM
OK........first meet at Walkabout for a while, Mushy's first as host, the usual unpredictability regarding numbers (which will never be a true yardstick to judge meet success IMO though)and, probably fair to say, a few nerves as well.

What we actually got what for me was possibly the best POF meet I've ever attended. Again, my opinion (and possibly a biased one cos I spent an inordinate length of time on the dancefloor), but it felt so good to be back in this venue, and massive thanks to Mushy, Derbyminx and Barbelbil for helping make it such a good night.

A great crowd turned up, and the whole atmosphere here was so much better for having our own DJ. Milton did an outstanding job and played a great selection (luuurrvvedd the 1990 era dance stuff). The party definitely benefitted, although standing in certain spots and being able to hear the DJ downstairs was strange. A small price to pay though in what turned out to be a brilliant night.

Fancy dress?? Did I forget to mention how many people went to such an effort and how authentic everyone looked in the gangsters and molls outfits? Totally fab effort all round

Fab to accompany the lovely Barberella and Frantic to the event, and great to spend so much time with Lashes, Mel and Dee. Good to see so many old and new friends as well - A Supermum, Aec683, Babycham-5, Bluekyss, ChrisNov1980, Colmerry, Devotedaunty, Flirty Man (great to see you again), Fruitoni, Gothik1, Heart For Sale ( really glad you enjoyed the night), Hazelrose, Jayney1966, Leah12 and Matt, Leewr12, Misheru and Alan, Karen, Rainy24, Realyniceguy, Rob Dad, Soulbeing (great outfit!), and many many others

Can't wait for the next one here

Hi Taz......I think Angeldelight is absolutely spot on with her recommendation. POF meets are a great way to get to know new people and to make friends, as I found out when I joined the site shortly after finishing a relationship early last year. At the time I basically knew no-one apart from work colleagues, but I found the regular meet attendees to be great people and well worth getting to know.

Good luck with your time on the site, and I really hope things go well for you

has great britain lost its sense of humour?
Posted: 11/8/2008 5:26:05 PM
I saw the Ross/Brand thing as pretty much like bullying an old man. Andrew Sachs is in his late 70s, and, in my mind, it is unforgiveable that their attack was so personal, aimed at his granddaughter in the way it was. Regardless of the publicity that she's got out of it, it's still wrong.

The Clarkson thing sounded funny and silly as far as I was concerned, no malice intended and nothing that could seriously have caused offence I don't think either.

As a nation, I do think we need to lighten up though

Do we fooook luv......'appen that's sheeet that iz

I think that this country is full of a rich collection of accents, and, whether Northern, Southern, Cornish,****rnee, Brummie, Geordie, Scouse etc, they're always gonna sound strange if you're not from that area. Unfair of anyone to brand Northerners as odd in that respect though, especially as 'The North' is such a hazily defined area.

SHOULD SMOKERS BE ALOUD TO FOSTER

I seriously think that there's a lot more important issues than whether the potential foster parents smoke or not.

There's quite a few more fundamental basics to cover first, smoking IMO comes a lot lower down on the list of priorities.

Sleeping Patterns
Posted: 11/1/2008 8:59:58 PM
I work a regular and unusual late shift (1.30 - 8pm) and struggle with mornings. Got little problem sleeping at night but, like yourself OP, can also sleep in the daytime quite easily, although I do quite often spend a large chunk of the night up and awake. Am on regular medication so I put any lethargy down to that in part. The tiredness can really get on top of me, especially the mid-afternoons when I'm sat down at work.

I think the easiest way to solve this is the boring old advice of 'getting 8 hours sleep a night'. Tends to work for me, on the rare occasions that it happens

DERBY HALLOWEEN PARTY. Zanzibar 31st October. IMAGES & COMMENTS
Posted: 11/1/2008 6:17:48 PM
Looks like everyone had a great night and I'm glad to see so many pics of people enjoying themselves, and of so many great fancy dress costumes. Top effort by Barbelbil as well, you looked fab sir

Heart for Sale......I totally empathise regarding your situation. Many of us on this site (myself especially) lack self-belief big time, but POF meets are about bringing all of us together - the good, the bad, the tall, the short, the talented and not so talented, the beautiful and the plain, the extrovert, the shy and reserved etc. What really matters is the that effort you make with other people. Those that are bad-mannered, rude or offensive will never fit in, and that's a fact.

I would like to think that POF meets recognise no boundaries and no prejudices, and I'm sure that Barbelbil feels as strongly about this as I do. Obviously the situation on Friday upset you, but please don't let one bad experience taint your opinion of what I feel are by far the friendliest local meets we have. If I may be so outspoken I do think you're giving yourself a hard time, and I would also ask you to give the Derby meets a second chance (if you can afford them!). Take care and hope to see you at many subsequent meets

a unified European response was complicated when President Sarkozy announced that he too had slept with Andrew Sach’s granddaughter. ‘She is sexy girl. I am President of France. Is no big deal. You want I ring Manuel, and tell him?’

F**kin juvenile shit really, in bad taste, and Andrew Sachs is not far from being in his eighties now, so it smacks of bullying in that respect as he's just an old man really. Hopefully an act they'll both seriously live to regret.

Mush, am well-chuffed for you and Derbyminx that things have really picked up since that mass email went out, looks like it's gonna be a good night with a good selection of Notts POF party addicts signed up already!

Nice as well - as always - to see some newcomers signed up. If you've never been to a meet before, or see this thread and wonder if the event is for you, I'd seriously advise throwing caution to the wind and signing up anyway. Most people who attend their first meet return again and again to subsequent POF events, and, in the capable hands of Mushy Pea and Derbyminx, you'll be well looked after in a venue that has many happy memories for me

Well looking forward to this one, nice to see Walkabout back. Catch you all at the bar!

Well done to BB on yet another great night at Halo, a difficult venue to better in my opinion. Plenty of eager partygoers made for a fun and enjoyable night. The effort made by some people with regards to fancy dress was quite impressive, and it was good to see so many new faces involved.

Special thanks as well to Barberella (as always x), Mushy Pea and Frantic Romantic (looking positively deathly, lol), Jessiebaby, Derbyminx, Fudgey, Pinkgypsy, Autumn Mist and Danny, and Darkchocolate1965 and her sister for the chat and the laughs. Apologies to anyone I've missed out

Did you see Harry's interview on Good Morning
Posted: 10/28/2008 3:53:21 AM
Ony just watched the interview.....I think Phil and Fern did what would be required of any journalist in that situation, they asked questions and didn't skirt around the issue. If she'd be drinking the night before and was on medication, that might well have messed her up, but if it was simply the medication she should have made them aware of it before she went on.

Ironic really that the word 'relaunch' was used more than once during this interview. Having said that, I genuinely feel sorry for the girl......if she doesn't regret it now then she probably will next week, next year or in ten years time when her head is clearer. Shame her family are subjected to this too. Yes, Kerry Katona is newsworthy again and it has brought her publicity, but at what ultimate cost.

One of the big problems with fame, you're there in the public eye. When you do great, and do great consistently, everyone loves you. When you f**k up consistently, you turn into a laughing stock.

**NOTTINGHAM SPOOKY SPECIAL SAW V & PUB CRAWL MEET - Images & Comments
Posted: 10/27/2008 3:23:27 PM
Right, have uploaded the pics I took yesterday, more may follow, and if anyone has any they want including, please let me know.

Big thanks to all that turned up for what I thought was a really fun day out. For those that stacked up on popcorn, coke and hot dogs and braved Saw V in the impressive Cornerhouse complex, I think pretty much everyone enjoyed the film. Admittedly perhaps a little thin on the storyline in comparison to some of its predecessors, but it did have some amazing and inventive new traps that were both gory and surprising

Special thanks to Barbelbil and Barberella for the massive amount of support that they offered in different ways to help make this meet a success. Joining them for the day, it was great to see Leah12 again, also Frantic Romantic, A Supermum and Fruitoni, Chrise683 and her fella with Leanna, Aec683 and Jayney1966, ChrisNov1980, Devotedaunty and friend, Fudgey and Skibum, St. Rob, Hal1959, Nate Grey, Petefromheanor and ppduel21. Each and every person's presence at this meet did mean a great deal, so hopefully I've remembered everyone!

Hopefully also, those present enjoyed the varied pub crawl, which took in the modern Saltwater bar in the Cornerhouse, Nottingham's much older Bell, Salutation and Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem pubs, the gothic and wonderfully atmospheric Pit and Pendulum (does it still do those BDSM nights I wonder? Lol), and the Lace Market's uber trendy Pitcher and Piano, before three of us finally wrapped things up with waitress service at the very purple Eschuca Bar

I'm hoping that everyone got as much out of the day as I did. Am also gonna put my thinking cap on and try and come up with a similar daytime mini meet idea soon, and yes Nate, your suggestion that we eat somewhere next time has been taken on board

Gotta say a massive thanks to everyone who turned up yesterday afternoon to brave the latest gruesome installment of the Saw series, and to the others who joined us in Saltwater afterwards. A fairly modest turnout was always on the cards, but I'd like to think that some of the special atmosphere that is quite often to be found at mini meets was present yesterday.

Gonna do my shouts a bit later on, and will also upload some pics of the event on the thread too. On a personal level, I really enjoyed the day, and it was great to see such a high proportion of newbies at the event as well

I'm sure you'll get to hear all about it this weekend though, and if I'm not wrong the film is premiering tonight

Which basically means.......just over three days til this meet and plenty of time for more POF'ers to sign up for what will be a great Sunday afternoon out in Nottingham.

Just a quick note to mention, I know that some people are due to bring guests with them already, and anyone else who fancies bringing guests along, please feel free. Definitely the more the merrier

This is gonna be one hell of a night I reckon, an impressive sign-up list and lots of old (pardon the expression!) and new faces. Over three days left, so anyone who fancies it, do yourself a favour and get on the list as this will be a seriously good fun night out!

NOTTINGHAM SPOOKY SPECIAL - SAW V & MINI PUB CRAWL MEET. At The Cornerhouse, Sunday 26th Oct 2008
Posted: 10/21/2008 5:17:29 PM
38 signed up now, the meet has gone green, and such fab folk as Flirtastic, Chrise68, Bad Ariel, and aec683 have shown their true spirit and added their names to the list for a great afternoon's horror, entertainment, and squiffy silliness

**IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THIS MEET - Showing times for the Sunday have now been released. I have arranged the meeting time as 1.30PM SUNDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MAIN CORNERHOUSE ENTRANCE,WITH THE FILM ITSELF STARTING AT 2.00PM.

**THE PUB CRAWL STARTS AT SALTWATER (IN THE CORNERHOUSE COMPLEX) AT 4.00PM

I know the 2.00pm showing probably won't suit everyone, but it will give us plenty of time to have a drink and a chat and maybe something to eat (for those who've still got an appetite, lol) afterwards.

Nine days to go til the full horror of Saw V is unleashed on unwitting POF'ers in Nottingham! A week exactly til its release and all the speculation, theories and hype are gathering pace. There was even a trailer for it on TV tonight!

But for those who aren't sharing my admittedly childish excitement about this film, be assured that we'll try and see as many varied fun and interesting pubs afterwards as we can, before we all get shandied-up and have to go home

Brilliant idea for a meet Hams, think we should have something like this in the East Midlands. Best of luck with it anyway, I won't be able to make it unfortunately, but sure it'll be great fun and a cracking success

Wow! Well done Lily, the sign-up list goes on forever, dead chuffed that you got such a Billy Belter set up for tomorrow night, just wish that Barb and myself could be there.

Anyone who's still not sure whether meets are for them or would like to go but is nervous (and can there be anyone within a 50 mile radius who hasn't signed up for this yet? Lol!), please do try it anyway......this has to be the event to pop your meet cherry at, and Just Me, Lily and the masses of other Merseyside meet regulars will make you feel very welcome

hmmm i got a major dilema do i attend this one or the sawv one hmm helpppp meeeeeeeeeeee

Schwexy, in my honest, objective and very very unbiased opinion, both meets will be the absolute dog's dangly bits, although for very different reasons. No pressure then....

Actually, if you can make both it would be great, but this one is shaping up to be a real shindig to remember. Great venue, great people, great night out.....and the host is ok as well I suppose

A big hi and welcome to C.J.D., Dr Binks, h.s.p, The Cabbage for signing up, and especially to Linda and Schwexybaby for posting on the thread as well.

Brock.....definitely seen a few of those movie sites but had no idea that Saw V would be on any of them, although there seems to be quite a few clips floating around now. Gonna resist the temptation to try and find the movie online though

oh bugger i just thought whilst watchin saw 4 i almost shat meself

.........Groovy makes a mental note to sit a good few seats away from Schwexy in the pics

Right, the mass email has been sent out today and seems to have worked pretty well so far. More welcome sign-ups since last time I posted include 1trd, alandbull, hippychick26089, Salsaknight, Takeme1969, Angel1509, and the rather fab Lou 73, Petefromheanor (nice to see you braving the cinema mate!) and Mushy Pea

The support of each and every person on here is deeply appreciated, and with two weeks left to go, and the event still to go on the green links, I'm starting to get excited at the prospect of a really good Sunday out in Notts

I'm sure many POF'ers will have been to their first meet at this venue, and glad that top mates Mushy and Derbyminx are organising events at Walkabout once again.

I for one am really glad that there's so many new and diverse meets coming up, and it's also brilliant to see Mushy organising his first meet

Any first timers who happen across this thread and wonder if the meets are for them......let me assure you that this will be one amazing meet and a great one to get to know other POF peeps

Wow! Turn my back for a minute and the sign-up list jumps from 12 to 18, big thanks to Ripleyminx, Brock1970, Colmerry, Djdi, Skyliner and Soulbeing for adding their support. Soon be able to send the mass email out at this rate, and with the event still set to go green, and with the inevitable guests to add as well, the numbers look set to increase considerably between now and the 26th.

Brock, great to see that you've signed up to this and the Halo night, and are testing the meet waters. I can assure you that the overwhelming majority of meet attendees are very sociable and go out of their way to make all newcomers feel very welcome, so no worries there. Amazed that you've seen this already though, sure Lionsgate are guarding it with their lives, but definitely reckon it'll live up to the hype and be a thoroughly creepy experience

Great to see the numbers picking up nicely for this one, what will surely be another cracking night at Halo. If I'm not mistaken a good number of meet virgins signed up already as well

Fab to see Pinky, Jess, Mushy and others signed up as well. Nice one BB!!
