Why Florida?
Posted: 3/2/2009 5:26:31 PM
I have lived in Florida now going on 8 years and this is my story and I am sticking to it. LOL
Originally a Yankee from Maryland until 1982 when I transferred to the Space center in Houston Texas from 1982-2001. After I was laid off from 30 years with the Space industry, I chose to move to Punta Gorda because my mom and my brother were living there. Not known to me was the lack of industry or decent jobs here and for the longest time I felt like an extra in another "Cocoon movie" LOL Needless to say I got used to the heat and humidity in Texas so Florida is not much different. I was unaware that when I left hot Houston Texas that I would still have to contend with those nasty fireants, big skeeters, longer hotter summers, and those dreaded things called Hurricanes. My big thrill was to be at ground zero on Friday August 13 2004 when hurricane Charley hit directly in Punta Gorda with sustained 150 mph winds and my furnished mobile home was blown somewhere west of the Mississippi I am sure. So what is my overall opinion about Florida that I can say without getting bleeped? Well Florida is absolutely awesome from November until April but after that it is no fun tracking weather maps for 6 months to see where new storms are coming from or going to. If I had the resources and a job lined up elsewhere I would leave skid marks when I left this state so fast. And that's all I have to say about that.

Are you a great kisser?
Posted: 3/14/2008 6:45:30 PM
Hmmmmmmmmm let me try and come up with some sort of response to your question. As others have said, one can only go by "input" and in all honesty, I have received many more "positive" complements then negative. You mentioned it was your favorite spors and when I was younger, i was a first round draft pick by a few females..haha. The true measure is what another person said about a kiss "making them weak in the knees" and I would have to say maybe 3 or 4 have been able to do that to this old geezer ( not lately though ). LOL When I think about it, I MUST be a damn good kisser because so many people tell me on a reg basis to "kiss their butts" hahahaha Good luck, good fishing, and good kissing to all.

Profile Drive Bye's
Posted: 12/25/2007 10:30:51 PM
That was definitely a thread that many people would like to see responses from in deed, me included. Being a long time Veteran of the single world, there are no right or wrong answers to many questions about various POF type issues. We are all individualists with our own unique ways of seeing things and from personal experiences, I have to choose my words wisely so they do not become misconstrued which happens reading typed words. I have been in POF for a year and I still wonder why people say or do certain things but I cannot let myself worry about them. We all have our little "quirks" as to how we utilize this site and to my knowledge, there has yet to be any 2 people that were exactly alike in their views haha.
To address the subject of drive-by-viewings, I am both a victim and culprit so guilty as charged but before you crucify me, I have my reasons as to why I peruse profiles and I also am curious why the same people continually come back and view me like 9 or 10 times. I have 3 main reasons for my drive-bys and I am quite positive when you read them I will get some feedback big time haha Sorry but I am brutally honest and this is a great way for me to have my own forum even if for a few minutes. Ok so here are reasons/rules for how I view profiles and laughing or sarcasm is allowed as long as it doesn't crossover to Bashing haha.
My main concern first is location because I simply will not date anyone that lives more than 20 miles away even if that sounds crass. Secondly, I scan their interests/hobbies etc and this might really draw some bashing but for some reason, there are lots and lots of Florida females that love or enjoy motorcycles in their profile and like smokers versus non smokers, me and motorcycles do not mix. I must preface this by saying my first rule is if a profile has no photo, I seldom read those. Before you play the "superficial card" on me, I have spoken on this subject in other threads before and it matters not what a person looks like but rather that a person is who they say they are. I have been on the receiving end of deception before and it will never happen AGAIN! Well those are my views on my drive-by methodology whether they sound ludicrous or not. POF means different things to different people and my stories are no different then most. Whether it be males or females, there are those who have other agendas here and the lies come from both sexes as well so if I choose to contact a few Quality people rather than a Quantity of undesireables, well that is just who I am. Sorry I had the verbal diarrhea but I have a tendancy to flap my jaws a bit too much so thanks for reading and I hope nobody will take my comments personally. Good luck to all and Happy New Year as well.

Do You Have Your Eye on Someone?
Posted: 12/8/2007 6:24:53 PM
As for my story, I thought I had my eye out for a certain individual but ended up being just another very familiar story. After a couple of months of many lengthy chats it was a mutual thing to finally meet etc. As the dating gods intervened, then came all of those dreaded "red Flags" fast and furious which in hindsight I am so glad they showed up. Not to disclose all the gory details but I discovered once again how alcohol is a definite Truth Serum LOL. Amazing the things one discovers when the other party wants to chat for hours after lengthy vists to the local bar. haha Needless to say I learned quite a lot of very helpful info that made me take my eye OFF this person immediately and avoid yet another dose of "Dating Drama". Good luck to all.

Viewed Me Not Updating?
Posted: 10/18/2007 5:18:31 PM
Thanks Aruqula for the help but my Edit profile says " To Hide profile click here" so that was not the problem..For some reason it has shown only the SAME 9 people for the last 30 days with no change whatsoever even though others have said they viewed it but the results simply will not change/update.

Viewed Me Not Updating?
Posted: 10/18/2007 6:25:12 AM
My question is regarding the "viewed me" section that seemed to always work and update until about a month ago. I always had 3 rows of viewers etc but I have noticed that there is now only 1 row of those who viewed me and those names NEVER change. Basically what it boils down to is my profile shows that ZERO people have viewed my profile within the past month and that was always updating regularly. I have contacted a few POF acquaintences and asked them to view my profile but no names appear on the "viewed my profile". I have never made any changes to my email settings or profile settings other then to make a few small EDIT changes in the profile itself. Any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks

Has anyone been brave enough to meet someone with no pic at all?
Posted: 8/7/2007 3:03:55 AM
If I may respond with a true story, hopefully this will give you my honest answer. Maybe 8 or 9 yrs ago I had chatted online for many months with a lady and we seemed to click in many areas. We did the proverbial photo exchange and she had just 1 picture which I assumed was current or semi-current. Eventually we agreed to meet so I offered to buy her a plane ticket to visit me for a few days and here is when it gets very "interesting". I arrived early at the airport anxious to meet my lady friend and when the plane landed, I watched n watched until all the passengers had de-planed. Immediately I thought perhaps she missed her flight so there I was standing like a statue when I feel this tap on my shoulder. I said may I help you, and she said "hi Bill I am xxxyyy". It was at that point when a picture of my expression would be "priceless" because here was a completely different woman then from the photo sent via messenger. I will say as a conservative guess that photo had to have been at least 15 yrs old and more then 75 lbs lighter then the person looking me right in the eye! Needless to say I was speechless, began to sweat profusely, tried to think of something slightly intelligent to say, but ended up sounding like Mel Tillis at his best. To sum up the story I did manage to be very diplomatic about the situation and stated my opinions rather tactfully. The moral of this story is to this DAY, when I am chatting online or a POF member, my main rule is I will NEVER, EVER, respond to anyone without a current photo--period! Call me superficial or whatever but I never want to be put thru that wonderful experience AGAIN..haha As a sidebar to this, I have graduated to where I can definitely tell a 15 yr old Polaroid from a Digital picture. haha

What Is With The Pics That Some Of you Girls Put Up???
Posted: 8/4/2007 6:19:47 PM
Just spouting my 2 cents worth, in all honesty I try not to over-analyze or critique pics the ladies post. My main concern is hopefully they at least post a photo AND that it be semi current! I may be old fashioned in some ways and NO it isn't just about WHAT you look like but would be nice to see who you are emailing or interracting with. True I have 2 working eyes and "Looking attractive" does not come close to "Acting attractive". I don't mean to sound crass but in some cases ( both genders are guilty ), people in their 50's post photos that have to be from 10-15 years ago geez. In some cases I can agree that posting more revealing photos may draw more attention like if all their pics are of the revealing nature.
What works for some doesnt always work for everyone and in all honesty, if a woman looks super attractive but we share very few common interests or live too far apart, one should keep on fishing..LOL Good luck to all.

new to chat sites,
Posted: 7/24/2007 3:42:30 AM
Lorrie..only as my 2 cents worth, one possible item would be to be a little more specific in your profile under "interests"..All sorts pretty much can include, well, All Sorts! Perhaps choose maybe 5 or so interests or hobbies that you truly spend more time with and when you respond to emails, just talk a little bit about those interests and maybe why you enjoy them. You do not need to type a novel but little or no input is worse. We all have our niches so highlight those things you are good with etc and hopefully that will attract guys with similar interests. Good luck..

what do you guys think of this guy?
Posted: 4/28/2007 5:15:35 PM
Lonedancer this is a "no-brainer" if I ever saw one. Please don't take this personally and it might be a generalized statement but, even Stevie Wonder can see this guy has ONE agenda only. Ok make that 2 agendas, Sex and himself. He is saying the sweet charming words you want to hear and sorry to say, he needs to get over himself and why you cannot see thru him is beyond me. What he is doing to his current GF will be the same thing he will do to you if you get involved. From a guy point of view he sounds like a BS artist and from a female point of view he is a charmer. He said he really missed talking to you and the first words out of his mouth were "turn on your cam". Maybe the ladies call a guy like that Confident but to me it sounded like a late night, I am horny, think I will try to sweet talk her type of chat. Just my opinion. But those seem to be the types of guys many women like which is why the nice, honest types answer forum questions. LOL good luck ..

Tons of profile views, but why no email?
Posted: 4/28/2007 3:39:53 PM
This is one of those mysteries that have no true answers since we are all individualists. I also have wondered why I get so many profile views but only a couple of emails and those were outside of my "interests". I even asked those who have been here a long time for profile help/advice and they tell me mine is a nice profile. Yes people view profiles for all the reasons others have mentioned here but if a person has a decent profile, it would seem the odds of getting 2 emails from 100 views raises a red flag to me. I also send out selective emails and do not even get a reply at all so makes me wonder what the true agendas are for many people. I quit worrying about it and whatever happens will happen but I can say in all honesty that being NICE and FUNNY and HONEST doesn't seem to float anyones boat around here..haha I have seen what I consider to be very average females with not very informative profiles being on 100 favorites lists so the questions still remain a mystery..

Rating Images Question
Posted: 4/28/2007 9:44:55 AM
I like the Image rating system on POF but have a couple of issues or questions about the setup. I have noticed that other MEN have rated my images and being a totally hetero guy, why is there not a setting to filter out who can rate images and age brackets that can rate images? I do not like or want other Males rating my images as a 1 just so they can play their silly games nor do I want 20 yr old females to rate my pics a 1 in the same manner. Just a suggestion to have a way of filtering out specifics in who can rate pics. Thanks and good fishing to all.

Trolling or looking???????????
Posted: 4/27/2007 6:12:24 PM
I agree with fieryredhead42--what started out as looking quickly turned into trolling and now I also observe from the sidelines or in forums since I seem to have "The Plague" or something.LOL Maybe it is just me but it almost seems like people think it costs money just to send out a pleasant email!! But in all honesty, it is good to HOPE you meet someone on here but it would help if people at least tried taking that first step like maybe saying "hello" more often..Just my biased old white man opinion..good fishing everyone.

LET ME HELP YOU RE-WRITE YOUR PROFILE !
Posted: 4/25/2007 5:40:16 AM
Thanks so much Truffles for that quick response and input..Yes I search and I try to keep the age group very similar to mine because I am not into the Young ones !! I was thinking maybe it had to do with the smoking issue but then I thought it was because I dont drink anymore so drinking ladies might avoid me for that. LOL Your input makes me feel better because you definitely seem to have a grasp for the creative writing stuff and you are so awesome to help so many on here--a big high 5 to you and a gold star for your efforts..One particular thing in my local searches has shown quite alot of gals who either ride Harleys or want someone that shares that interest--must be a Florida thing huh? haha Thanks again so much for the help and for being such a good person...

Why don't women send the first email?
Posted: 4/24/2007 10:42:25 PM
If I might add my 2 cents worth or give a penny for my thoughts ( hmmmm whatever happenes to that other penny? )...I tend not to post in forums often because someone always has issues but what the hell, here is my input..I have only been on POF for 5 weeks but have already discovered a few things. .Seems when I send out emails even though just a few, I get zero replies in return even if a "no thanks sparky"..My inbox has been overflowing with a plethora ( great word gooddaughter45 ), of one, count em, one email and that was from a lady 14 years outside of my specified age range..I would imagine from what everyone is saying to this issue, it must have to do with what is typed in a profile or if guys have on no shirts..haha..In my view I type exactly what and who I am even if it doesn't seem to sound like Mr Wonderful so why should I try and "sugarcoat" what I type in my profile? Sorry but I digress--if women do in deed send out first emails, that is news to me..Is bad enough when they cannot send even a no thank you when they gripe the exact same thing if they send out emails..Is true we are all individualists but from what I have been reading, there sure is a biggggggggg skew in why person A gets 50 emails and person B gets zippedy-doo-dah..But on the other hand, maybe I am butt ugly, my moustache has lice, my humor is not liked, or maybe I just didn't take a shower in my pictures..hahaha. Good fishing to all and I am off to locate different BAIT!! hahaha

ladies, whats the kind of cologne/aftershave do you like best
Posted: 4/21/2007 11:43:01 AM
Over the years I have worn lots of different colognes and although to me, most smell like the south end of a northbound mule, I can only provide input for 2 colognes that no matter where I go, the ladies will ask what the cologne is so they can get some for their man. One is Paul Sebastian which is very light but some women have said it is almost like an aphrodisiac so it must be good. The other is called Jacomo which is very different from most colognes and also gets high reviews. One can find Paul Sebastian even at Walmart these days but Jacomo is found at places like Dillards or Macy's etc. Hope this input helps.

hidden movie gems
Posted: 4/21/2007 11:25:59 AM
I agree with your comment about "Dogma" and I was going to enter that as my movie gem but you beat me to the punch. The first time I watched it I thought it was very stupid and it did not gain my attention whatsoever but the next time I watched it, i actually was more aware of everything in the movie and I found it not only extremely funny but the more I watched the more it was very educational for me. Dogma was a lot like "Airplane" where the more you watched it the more things you discovered you missed in previous times. Excellent choice you made for a movie gem and I shall post one of my own now.
