I don't know why it says "copyright violation," except maybe someone thought you were too young to have put words together in such a sophisticated fashion. Which is really a compliment, if you think about it.
I agree that it was a compliment, although a back handed one. What good is this kind of compliment if it ends up getting this thread deleted?
It says "Copyright violation" because that was the option that the person who
first
reported this thread used as the reason to report this thread. If that same
first
report had chosen "Off Topic to This Forum" or "Contact Broadcasting", or any of the other choices available, that is what will show as the reason for deletion.
I agree with zephyrmoon1 that someone simply feels that you were not capable of writing this on your own. I Googled both of your poems and found no hits at all. Right now I'm certainly inclined to agree with your claim that these writings are in fact, your writings.
The only suggestion I will make is this. Starting a new thread for every single poem is not allowed here. Stick with one thread only and keep adding to it as new material comes to you.

When Mount Cody should have been called for unsportsmanlike conduct at the end of the tenn game, Tenn could have rekicked and won
I'll agree with you on the blown interception call but not with the above statement.
While an un sportsmanlike penalty should have been called, it would not have allowed the Vols a chance at another kick. It would have been a dead ball foul with 15 yards walked off but the ball would have belonged to Alabama.
Missed calls, bad calls, they've always been a part of the game and always will.

I have to agree with poster 2 because if what you're stating is true? It flies in the face of all previously known/stated information regarding this.
It has always been an accepted fact that once a person receives a first contact message, any and all restrictions then become null and void. However, one must never forget what Admin states here.
Moderators will have limited understanding of how new features work. I(admin) create and test new features in a matter of hours and constantly tweak things to see how they work. Many new features will be in a constant state of flux. Should a feature not enhance the site it will be removed.
I'd wait for either Trapped or Ticket to read and respond to this. But, maybe in the mean time, change your 'looking for' category to 'dating' and see if that allows you to write. That restriction is not being blocked.

Should the President render salutes to military personnel ?
Posted:
11/7/2009 4:22:41 PM
Dissect this if you wish, the vast majority here are not buying it !
Meaning the majority are right simply for being the majority? I'm sorry, but that's not an argument I'm willing to buy into.
However, I will pay heed to what a former military officer and teacher of military law at Yale Law school has to say on the matter. You will note that even though former presidents are mentioned, no party affiliations are even slightly eluded to. No bias or finger pointing at any political party. Simply a professional opinion concerning whether or not any current or former President of the United States should ever salute.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/06/opinion/l06salute.html?_r=2
The President is the commander-in-chief of the United States armed forces and outranks any military officer.
While that comment is true, it also allows one to make false assumptions. The mere fact that the President outranks any military officer is not being questioned. Nor is the fact that the President
cannot be a member of the military
and serve as the President at the same time.
Which makes the below portion totally relevant as to why it is improper for any President to salute.
and keeps clear the line between civilian and military public service.

Searches should only return people you can contact
Posted:

searching or looking at profiles won't trigger it. You would of had to make first contact with them. Again it was just a hunch I may be wrong.
Could any comment on this thread have been filled with more double speak than this one?
First, it's obviously clear from the above statement the poster is stating that searching or looking for IE or OR profiles will not trigger the filter. Second, saying that
"You would of had to make first contact with them.
leaves no doubt that this is being presented as factual information. Still, the following disclaimer,
Again it was just a hunch I may be wrong.
makes me wonder why anyone would even bother to present personal speculation as fact?
The only known fact about how the IE filter is triggered is known by only one person. Sure, the 'Help' link states that "Once you have contacted FOUR OR MORE users looking for Intimate Encounters you are restricted from contacting members that have this feature in place." But no where does it state that this is the one and only,
singular
, reason that will trip this filter.
The link provided in post 13 bears this out. Are some here tagged unfairly? I have no doubt that they are. But I believe it to be such an extreme minority that the overall benefits to the majority out weigh any injustice to so few.
The status on a profile is probably not a good way to determine who has a sexual disease, nor of who is promiscuous.
I'll agree with the part about determining whether or not a person actually has a sexual disease. But the
promiscuous
comment? Totally absurd thinking in my opinion.
Only a complete medical exam, tests etc., will reveal an STD. And even with that some can hide for quite a long period. I'll stick with the totally absurd comment as far as what a person states they are looking for. I'm not saying that someone stating dating or long term is not looking for a one nighter. I just find it difficult to believe that someone listing Intimate Encounter is truly looking for their last love.

If you'd actually read the sentence
Actually, I did read that sentence. I just wanted to make sure that what I read is what you actually meant. You cleared all doubt by saying..........
Reagan never served in the military.
I'll concede the point that Reagan never served as an actual military combatant. Meaning he was never part of any war time engagement. But to say that he never served in the military seems to miss the bulls eye by, well, let's just say that I don't believe your comment will ever get you a sharpshooters award.
I assume that the following links are all incorrect?
http://www.nndb.com/people/359/000022293/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidents_by_military_service
The above link shows that Clinton was actually the most recent President without any military experience, other than our current president. Oh, and it was FDR, for obvious reasons, that was the last to not serve in the military before Clinton.
Regardless of this trivial matter, the President of the United States, being a civilian, should never salute. Nor should he/she ever bow to any other person!

Reagan was the first President who hadn't actually served
I'm a bit unclear as to what you're meaning by that comment. Are you stating that 1- Reagan never served in the military? And 2- That Reagan was the first U.S. president to never have served in the armed forces?
I have to completely agree with the OP on this one. No U.S. President should ever initiate or return a salute. To do so could be construed as that person actually being an active military member. Something that is expressly prohibited by the constitution of the U.S.

Also it would be helpful as a "sandbox" for previewing posts as POF forums do not have a post preview.
Correct, POF does not have this feature, but you do. You can practice your quoting, bolding, etc in the thread that Balled Eagle suggested, but that thread is not for anyone to review any potential Forum posts.
However, you can always write your post just as you would as if you were sending an email to someone outside of POF. Use the HTML tags if so inclined and, to preview your message, simply copy/paste and send it to yourself via POF mail. You'll then see exactly how your post will show in the Forums.

Okay, I'll be the second such user.
Guess that makes me the third, unless someone chimes in here before this post shows up.
Page views are what is at stake here OP. As sad as that may sound it's the reality of advertising and the dollars that they generate. The more pages one views, the more advertisements that become available to be clicked on. (Yes, I know there are ways to block all such ads, but the fact is that they are here because more page views increase the chances of someone actually clicking on an ad.)
Well, in my original post that was deleted, I included this:
That is your second reference about your 'original' post being deleted. If I'm not mistaken, was your 'original post' in the Relationships Forum?
Your 'original post' can be found in the deleted threads list without any moderators name in the 'deleted by' column. This tells you, and us, that your thread was deleted by community vote.
This Forum category, Site/Suggestion/Help, that you are now posting in does not allow a community vote option on any thread, new or otherwise. Hence, your 'original post' was in the wrong forum to start with, regardless of which forum you posted it in.
What somewhat surprised me was Puddles, poster two, using her Mod hammer after her comment. I saw her comments more as a real life experience from being a member here. Real results that can happen to anyone here when allowed that one chance encounter that otherwise would have never happened had the stars been aligned as the OP suggests.
The odds on the power ball lottery that I sometimes place a dollar on are 1 in 195,249,054. (Taken from the back of a card.) Guess what? Someone eventually wins.
Puddles, by her own admission, beat the odds. More restrictive choices, in my opinion, would only decrease anyone's odds.

Help with hiding profile.

What is the email side of POF? Once you log in, aren't you logged in for the forums or messages and everything all at the same time?
Nope, the forums and email side are not related except for your user name and password. Logging into one does not guarantee that you are logged into the other.
The forum side doesn't as yet have the time restrictions that the Email side has. Once signed into the forum side you can stay 'active' for several days.
To test this yourself simply click 'log out' from your profile page as well as 'logout' from any forum page. (Don't ask me why they are spelled differently.)
Sign back in to your Email/message side, click on the forums link and you'll be asked to enter your password once again. Your singular account here allows you access to both sides via your user name and password, but only after you have signed in on both sides.
I hope that made sense?

Actually the answer is yes to all of the above.
Actually, the answer is yes to
most
all of your questions.
Does this mean that my profile becomes invisible to other users unless I message them?
For most all practical purposes, yes, your profile would most likely not be viewed unless you first wrote to someone. However, since you have posted in the forums, anyone that has seen your posts and wishes to view your profile may do so simply be logging in to the Email side of POF.
Your profile is removed from all the search functions here but if your user name is known your profile can be viewed regardless of your hidden status. Just figured you should have all the pertinent facts.

This pet idea was just recently suggested in this thread.
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts13218801.aspx
One person deemed it too hard to implicate while one of this site's more knowledgeable Moderators clearly indicates it would be a rather simple installation "if the original coding has been done properly."
If you read the other post I think you will find that
most
all your points/concerns are covered but adding your voice to an existing thread may add a bit more credence to this suggestion.
Especially the part about 'selective targeting', just another stat that Admin could potentially use to his advantage.

Question on deleting sent messages
Posted:
10/10/2009 8:00:03 PM
Sometimes we say things we don't really mean
I disagree, when you said it you meant it. Time may temper what you wish you'd said, but that moment still remains as the truth.
You would have a small grace period.
Let me get this straight. You already know that the message you're about to send is questionable, for whatever reasons, otherwise there would be no reason for such a feature, correct?
You are responsible for your own actions.
Very true, and with those actions should come accountability, wouldn't you agree? Such as once words are written, they should remain as they were so that their original intent is not altered for the sake of being seen in a different light?
Cowboy ... you're so smart
Seeing things only through Rose Colored glasses often skews personal perception.

Upgrade profile
Posted:

it's not in the help section either
This is where it gets a bit strange because that answer is both correct as well as incorrect, it just depends on which 'Help' link you access.
If you access the help section from any profile page there is no mention of an upgrade feature. But, if you access the help section from any forum page you get a different help page which does include a link to 'Serious Membership'.
There's very little information to be found via that link but what I find strange is the two different 'Help' sections.
Oh, the forum help link under Serious Member does provide you with this information,
Results indicate that your chance of finding someone increases 230% with the Serious Membership.

I am curious as to what benefit anyone would get from this? Views will inevitably slow down over time as users become accustomed to those in their local area. I can't see how cleaning your slate would generate new views simply because yours was clean.
The system already allows you to see, when settings are enabled, the order of the last whatever number it is. You should be able to easily tell when a new person has viewed your profile.
Perhaps trying a different picture, or rotate the existing ones you have will increase your views?

Good decision there since this thread is still open.
is this MyForums and Track This Thread new
Besides the FAQ section here the search function can also answer many of your questions. This thread goes back to 07 but I'm quite certain the Tracked feature dates well before that. MyForums was here long before the Tracked feature, likely from the inception of the Forums.

you can't include too many punctuation points because POF thinks that you're trying to be funny, what's wrong with THAT!!!
Nothing wrong with being funny, humor is great quality. But please tell me what is so funny about ............................ a string of dots which mean nothing or an endless line of any other /\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\-/\ meaningless symbols.
I could be wrong but I believe it was to thwart attempts by people to circumvent the minimum character count in the About Me section. Way too many people would only put "I'll tell you later" followed by meaningless junk. Hope this helps.

I have never seen that on a profile here.
It's as simple as looking at the OP's profile, or mine for that matter. Users that have pictures say 'Message' while users w/o pics say 'Contact'. At least, that is what I have noticed so far.

Volunteer moderators?

One of the reasons, in my opinion, is that a
singular
mind set has to be maintained for continuity. Each separate issue, complaint, problem or concern needs to be handled, basically, as if only
one
person existed as a Moderator. That kind of 'equality' is not an easy thing to find.
Simply adding more Mods without those 'singular' qualities would only increase the workload that the current,
excellent
Mods are under. Also, with the editing/deleting powers that are given to Mods. It would only be a matter of time before one of these 'Plain Jane' moderators let this power go to their head and abuse it for their own agenda.
I'll leave it to Groucho Marx to sum it up:
"I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members."

I think showing a counter or something would be nifty
From the FAQ under 'Profiles' this thread exists. In it you will see, in post 2, the following information concerning minimum and maximum character/space limits
Including
a way to perform your own character count.
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts7554529.aspx
#much
Minimum Character Count in the
About Me
Form Field is
190
, (Spaces are not counted) the maximum for the entire Profile is
6,850
(including Spaces). You could use a Text Editor such as Microsoft Word to poll the Statistics on Character Count.

Date joined
Posted:

One of the main reasons that date is useful here is to know "if you should know better" when you break the rules (although ALL should know better)
That is one comment that I agree with wholeheartedly, as far as the Forum side is concerned. Unfortunately, some long time Forum posters have been known to break the rules, even when, as stated above,
All should know better.
I'm not asking about the profile issues, but I ask, if it is a bad idea for profiles, how is it a good idea for forum posts?
There are many users here that readily admit they are here
only
for the Forums. Joined date doesn't matter to them at all. Keep in mind that member participation in the Forums is but a small percentage of active members on this site.
Admin gives his reasons in post 6 which, in my opinion, hits the nail on the head. My translation: Forum users don't care, Serious people do care. It is the mail side of this site that makes money for Admin, you do the math.
The dates are seperate as you suggest and the only one that means anything here in the forums would be the date the started reading or posting in these forums.
A simple, quick click on any poster's 'History' link would provide a great deal of information, would it not?
In addition, how in the world would one ever know when anyone started reading posts here? From my understanding, all but a few Forums are readily available to view even if one is

Re posting for clarification purposes.
As evidenced by post 4 of this thread you can see that I have already stated my opinion on this subject. However, just for the record, all things are
not
as they currently appear to be.
The following is an
exact
copy and paste of my original post as well as the
exact
wording of the post that I was quoting.
Original post #2: "What would be the purpose? The only purpose of a profile is to get dates. Ya want a profile review then we have a whole forum section made just for that.
The pic rating here is beyond ridiculous. Why extend it from pics to profiles.
Most profiles would get 1's or 2's as far as I am concerned. Very boring. And folks wonder WHY they get no messages here..."
Original post #4, as I wrote it: "
What do you think?
I think a lot of people would still rate a profile strictly on pictures. I think at least some people actually read the entire content of long profiles while most others just shrug their shoulders and look only at the pictures. Many insert 'keywords' in their profiles for this very reason.
The only purpose of a profile is to get dates.
Only
, as meaning the inclusion of admitted married persons/committed parties that have
profiles
here looking for friends? Including persons with
profiles
that state they are here for the Forums Only, that kind of
only
?
Most profiles would get 1's or 2's as far as I am concerned.
Based on what criteria? Pictures (The sillier the better?), context (The deeper the better?), length (The longer the better?), spelling (Intentionally misspelled words the better?), punctuation, interests? etc.
All in all, without strict guidelines in place, I don't see this as a viable or useful suggestion."
New text. To whom it may concern, if my original post broke some POF site rule then please point that out to me. If not, I would greatly appreciate it if
My
words were left as
I
wrote them and not changed simply to suit one's personal agenda!

that state they are here for the Forums Only, that kind of
only
?
Most profiles would get 1's or 2's as far as I am concerned.
Based on what criteria? Pictures (The sillier the better?), context (The deeper the better?), length (The longer the better?), spelling (Intentionally misspelled words the better?), punctuation, interests? etc.
All in all, without strict guidelines in place, I don't see this as a viable or useful suggestion.

MyForums link isn't working
Posted:

wow im stupid lol.....before when i logged in to POFs main page the link to myforums worked without me having to log in again.
Not stupid at all, just not knowing a few things about this site is all.
Years ago one could remain logged onto the mail side here for a considerable amount of time. As membership grew the 'non-active' time was reduced until what I believe is in the 20 minute range now. On the other hand, the Forums have never generated that 'strain' on the present resources, different server entirely, so log-in times here remain for a far longer time unless a user actually logs out. And now, in my best Paul Harvey voice, you know........... the rest of the story,,,,,,,,,, good day.

mail sent-but disappeared

OP, when you state "
sent and acknowledged as sent.
", do you mean you simply received a "Your mail has been sent" message or that they actually appeared in your sent mail box after sending them?
The reason for your missing mail really hinges on that. If you know for a fact that they were in your sent mail than the most likely scenario is that you were E-mail blocked. If you never checked to see if they were in your sent mail, than several possibilities exist.

any advice?
Yeah, don't be in such a hurry to get older, it hurts and sucks
But really, you have it covered in your profile for now. There seems to have been some recent 'tweaking' with the site which may or may
not
have any bearing on this. And, as poster 2 pointed out, just give it time, the sun will still rise tomorrow.

Incorrect City Display!

you dont know if they are close to you, or 400 miles away.
Even without listing their city/town, most likely for stalking concerns, there are still ways to find their general location
if
they've entered their correct zip code.
Click on one of the thumbnails at the top of such profiles, the ones that show as the last 10 people to check their mail within 50 miles of (user name). Checking a few of those profiles, again,
assuming
the user in question has entered their correct zip code, will certainly refine the distance.

But alas, people will continue hiding behind their monitors and talking "smack", as they say. *sigh*
might does not make right. the internet is a place for intelligent people, not stupid strong ones.
I believe this link covers both of your concerns, those hiding behind their monitors, as well as those that don't know when or how to use their shift key.

Any help would be appreciated.
Have you tried the FAQ thread yet? The one in BIG RED LETTERS at the top of this Forum that suggests you look
here
before you post?
Here are a few links that you would have easily found had you looked there first.

The above listed thread, post 2, is but one of many available to all users here. Also, from the Help link at the top of all pages, this freely provided information.
Plentyoffish users have the option to select if they wish to be available for contact from others that have made contact with those looking for Intimate Encounters.
Once you have contacted FOUR OR MORE users looking for Intimate Encounters you are restricted from contacting members that have this feature in place.
This block cannot be reset.
Expect this thread to be either locked or deleted very soon.

You should be able to reply to anyone that contacts you first.
Which I believe the OP has already acknowledged, see OP's quote below.
i cant send people messages
just the ones that message me first
But when YOU contact them first those are not "guidelines" those are the users email filters you see on their profile at the bottom.
Again, something that the OP acknowledges in his post, although worded a bit differently. See below.
they have no guidlines on their profiles and if they do
i match what guildlines they have on the page
.
You can answer the ones that you are a match.
OK, if you say so, I guess?
OP, you may wish to explore the FAQ found in this Forum.
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/datingPosts5028773.aspx
In it you will find these links concerning first contact messages.

eMail Still Won't Send - Last Resort Test if You Meet Their Contact Restrictions
Intimate Encounter eMail Filter - How it Works and Can It Be Reset
Why Does It Say Message Sent When It Isn't in the Sent Box
First Contact Messages Won't send
Was my E-Mail Actually Received?
Forms of eMail Contact Restrictions or eMail Blocking
I can't email them, but they can email me
All of the above listed items are active links in the FAQ section that I provided above. Your answer most likely lies in one of those.

city is not appearing in profiles
Posted:
9/28/2009 3:05:30 PM
That just means that you're not signed in and can't view the profiles
I don't think so, unless some really major changes are going on. I have never had to be signed into the mail side here to view profiles unless they were hidden by the user.
Another quick look at profiles
only
on this page, showed that some were viewable for a moment but all take me once again to the Sign On page at this moment.
Some tinkering by Admin or his new programmer me thinks with selective servers being taken down perhaps?

My guess is that it's just a matter of time before this is fixed. As of this writing,
Any
profile I try to view takes me to the Sign Up page. Including my profile, but I only looked there because I know for a fact mine isn't hidden.

Suggestion: NEW Category: Dating / Long Term
Posted:
9/28/2009 12:24:24 PM
I really LedOL at the corralation with rush and long term Tickettoride
I can see the correlation quite easily and agree with it. While many here are certainly hoping for an eventual long term relationship, it seems a bit 'Rose Colored' to start a relationship with that mind set.
I'm certain you could find others on here that list Hang Out while hoping some early meeting will eventually turn out to be much more. Starting out looking for Long Term, to me at least, does seem a bit presumptuous.
Switching from one 'seeking' selection to the another might not be such a bad idea OP. Although I'd just stick with dating and use your About Me section to clarify what your real goals are.
Oh, and Ticket, it's great to see you back in action.

mail settings, how did he message me?
Posted:

his email did not suggest he wanted and IE, just his profile, meaning on the here "for" is intimate encounter.
You do have the option of reporting this person via the 'Report user' link found at the bottom of their profile. This doesn't seem to apply to you since there's a 30 day period before that link will show up. See this thread, post 13, for further information on how to report this person.

Intimate Encounter Restriction Feature
Posted:
9/25/2009 5:28:48 PM
Many of the really interesting and nice women in here engage the "must not have messaged...etc...intimate encounters."
Which may very well be the reason that they are interesting and nice. Selective also comes to mind.
I'm prevented from contacting some of these interesting women.
Perhaps because your real 'interest' was something other than you portray? Read the FAQ at the top of this Forum, there are many, MANY threads that deal with your question.

mail settings, how did he message me?

It could be that he changed the "looking for" after he emailed you.
More likely is that their "looking for" status was changed
before
they sent you a message. They saw your profile restrictions and changed theirs to bypass your profile restrictions. It would appear that the "Must not have messaged users looking for intimate encounters or sex" restriction hasn't been tripped as of their writing.
I'm not certain if someone that selects 'IE' as their looking for category is forever branded as such. If that were true, the person that messaged you should never have been able to. A more plausible explanation is listed above, they just haven't been tripped up by your other restriction, yet.
just mentions thats what they're here for in their profile.
Entirely different story now. If the person writing to you did NOT have 'Looking for an IE' listed in their profile heading, but had it listed in the body of their profile, then no, I don't believe your restrictions would have any bearing on this situation.

From the FAQ's
Also found in the FAQ is this. I just figured it was worth mentioning since it may have some bearing on the OP's problem, or not.

There are also many threads on this subject that can be found in the FAQ. Many more than the single link that Msg 2 refers you to.

What Do You Think Of POF Now?
Posted:

I do not understand the correlation Markus try to make in the quote above.
The text that you have highlighted was actually written by Trappedonbayst, one of the site moderators here, not Markus. You'll also notice that his post is void of a mod hammer. Meaning that he was voicing his opinion on the subject in the same way that others here have voiced their opinions.
It still make sense to me to keep people on this site and view ads than push them to MSN or Yahoo.
Read message 16 for an actual quote from Markus. In it you'll see the marked increase in page views that this site experienced when the IM feature was removed. More page views = more exposure to the ads here. At least in theory, many programs exist that negate this, but page views are still the driving force.

I want to report a spammer
To report a members profile use the "Report" profile link at the bottom of their profile.
A better method, since the OP brought up the subject of Spam, might be to follow the instructions found in Msg 13 from this thread.

so you dont end up looking at their profile again
You can remove profiles from your 'My Matches' page by clicking on any profile found there and then clicking the 'Remove from my Matches' link found near the bottom of each profile.
embarassing failure
I agree, totally embarrassing

Why have a suggestion forum if reasonable suggestions are dismissed so quickly?
Posted:
9/18/2009 7:51:59 PM
From my understanding, all suggestions are 'logged' for Admins consideration. Even suggestions that end up as 'closed' are still available for review?
But your thread title is a bit misleading. This Forum is more than only a suggestion venue. If you noticed, the word
HELP
is very prevalent.

killing things
Posted:
9/18/2009 4:49:01 PM
Your post reminds me of what I saw occur just a few months ago. I arrived at a friends house to see a few people gathered at the side of her neighbor's house. One woman had a shovel and was flailing away at the ground while everyone else looked on.
I knew the neighbor casually and joined in to ask what was going on? He told me that a HUGE lizard was hiding and no one knew what it was. Just then it darted from one hiding place and sought out another as this shovel wielding woman struck at the ground again and again.
It's a skink I told them, leave the damn thing alone, he's harmless. They all looked at me with an expression of "Are you sure?" After I assured them that it was totally harmless they told me why they were trying to kill it.
It was bigger than any lizard we have ever seen. (Different)
It was brightly colored, never saw anything like it before. (Different)
We were scared because we didn't know what it was. (Ignorance)
Unfortunately, the first thought of many is to kill what is unknown, not to find out what is known or can be learned.
I would say most people would have done the same thing.
I rest my case!
