Me too. Its all about enjoying the ride--and burning enough calories to justify the soft serve cone you eat on the way!!!

Yey soft serve in the summertime!

Why Are Over 45 Men In Love With Motorcycles?
Posted: 6/26/2009 4:00:29 PM
OP: glad you posted this as I too wonder the same thing. As a person who has worked with more than a few traumatic brain injuries resulting from motorcycle accidents, I choose not to ride. I don't begrudge anyone their right to do so, but its a risk I'm no longer willing to take. Yet it seems that riding is an essential criteria for so many people. One fellow told me that I "just have to"...its a weird peer pressurey kind of thing with some. I'll stick with the bicycle on nice bike paths with no cars, thanks.

When should the woman offer to pay?
Posted: 6/25/2009 5:03:08 PM
I believe each person should pay his/her own way or take turns paying for things. The spirit of generosity should be evident in both people.

Any other grammar nazis around these parts?
Posted: 6/25/2009 5:00:08 PM
My take: the attention a person pays to what and how they write--especially in their profile, is an indicator of their level of attentiveness/respect for themselves and possibly their mate. It also says something about how serious they are about finding someone. The poorly written profile makes a big statement all by itself.

What are some good dating sites?
Posted: 6/22/2009 5:22:42 PM
There are a couple new ones through Facebook: zoosk (appears to have some potential, but its a paid site) and Datepad which is free. I have also tried a couple of bicycling sites as I'd like to meet someone based on shared interests. Agree that meet-up is good for that reason.

Aye! Without question 'tis sexy... If he plays bagpipes and sings, even better. If he goes commando under the kilt, better still. That is, unlees we are talking about F. Ba**ard of Austin Powers fame--then thats a wee bit diff'rent.

#2 hit the nail square on. Any guy that wants a girl to give him a chance doesn't employ a crass user name. Also, your profile lists hunting and back yard mechanics as your interests....no wonder the women aren't beating a path to your door.
Maybe you'd do better listing "inimate encounter" as your purpose? Just seems more straightforward that way.

Diabetic Needs Help
Posted: 12/22/2007 2:13:59 PM
If you look on ebay, you'll be able to find new, very inexpensive copies of "Diabetes for Dummies", as well as "Cooking for diabetes for dummies". Many people will give you "hints" which may be useful, but you'll need more than hints to maintain control of this lifelong condition and keep your health. You owe it to yourself to learn all you can about nutrition and exercise. Please continue to devote yourself to gaining the real foundation of knowledge that will help you understand how diabetes affects the body and how to take good care of yourself.
If you do it right, you've turned this challenge into an opportunity.

How do I stop being such a control freak?
Posted: 12/4/2007 4:52:11 PM
OP:
In all sincerity, I think you are the only one who can say for sure and it is unlikely that even you, yourself, will ever know for sure. But I think there are two primary contributing factors: #1) being 19 --it is very likely that you will become more confident and less controlling as you mature; and #2) you may feel insecure about being a young woman alone in a big (often scary) world in which none of us has very much control. If you were to ask my advice on how to cope, I would recommend that you to have as much compassion for yourself as you can possibly muster.

It is only through kindness and acceptance of ourselves that we become stronger (and therefore less controlling). Embrace the scary stuff if you can.

Buddhist philosophy can really show you the way down this path, and I can't recommend it enough.

Question for the women

i don't like saying this, but sometimes you know within the first 10 seconds of meeting whether it is a "yes" or a "no" and you sepend the remainder of the time building the case for that initial sense/impression.

She is showing you who she is...believe her the first time she shows you.
You already know her behavior isn't about you.
A.K , you seem like quite a good guy and a great catch. Personally, I would have let you put your arm around me on the second date--and kiss me too. I would not have wanted to take a carriage ride without your arm around me. Spend your fine attentions on someone who embraces them--and you. Life is too short to be emotionally and physically incompatible.
All the best to you in finding a real love....

If you've never heard "This American Life" on NPR, you are missing one of the best things ever to be on the radio. Google it--archives are there--free for the listening.

Internet radio on itunes is GREAT.

Girls! Am I that bad?
Posted: 11/19/2007 6:39:47 PM
A few suggestions:
Spell check (please)
Try speaking more from your heart (and less from your...er, abrasive back pocket).
Very few women are into guys who are into "hanging out". Dating, or even friends is preferable to that category. Also, put something in the profession box, dude. We don't like seeing that one empty.
Ok, one more: tell her (the one you seek) what you want to share with her. Women, generally speaking, deal in the currency of emotion and feelings. And we like to be made to laugh and smile.
Bon chance...

My other most scary meal might have been the batch of turkey chile I made a few years ago. I thought it was still edible after 2 weeks residing in the fridge. Two hours after I ate it, it came back to haunt me with a vengeance...

Inquiry about Tea
Posted: 11/17/2007 6:57:43 PM
Random:

Now might be the time to try some english breakfast tea as it is similar to what you describe. Try Twinings and see if you like it. Most stores sell it--though it isn't as inexpensive as the brands you previously named. If you have a Job Lot type of store, you can often find a lot of high quality teas there --for less $.

Compare and contrast--which is scarier? A Stephen King movie or internet dating
Posted: 11/17/2007 4:00:03 PM
Just finished watching the new Stephen King movie "1408" and boy was it frightening...and then I got to thinking: which is the scarier prospect--internet dating or a film by the master of horror? Given the plot twists, blood curlding screams and deranged characters, I'm voting for internet dating...I had no idea it could scare the pants right off of you!
Please weigh in with your scary thoughts...

The scariest meal you ever ate...and lived to talk about
Posted: 11/11/2007 8:00:48 PM
When I was growing up, strange foods regularly appeared on my grandmother's table. Calves brains, cow tongue (whole), and caviar were commonplace--and my brother and I were regularly told "you have to try it...", and we did--with many lumpy, soggy napkins going in the gabage or being strategically hidden for later disposal. Chicken foot soup is the very scariest thing I've had to eat....seemed like something they would serve to the Klingons on Star Trek.
So what's your nightmare meal story?

Love or hate the film BORAT, a predictor of compatibility?
Posted: 11/10/2007 11:36:27 AM
Borat is one of the best movies ever made--period. If you look beyond the surface of over-the-top-under-the-bottom humor (which I thought was fantastic), there is a rich, insightful social commentary about the United States. I'd have to say that if a man couldn't appreciate this movie for its subtext--I don't think we'd hit it off.
If he were to "go" in a bag and hand it to me...well, that would be a different story.
