Airport scans for illegal downloads on iPods, mobile phones and laptops

The recording industry used to have a product we wanted, and they were the only source. When CDs first came out in the early 80s, they were expensive to make, and thus the price in the store reflected a product that was near twice the price of magnetic tape recording. However, with technology, the price to manufacture a CD is several cents now. The recording industry did not reduce the price, only increase profits. Now, the technology is on our side, and they cry like the pathetic babies they are.

I would pay $2.50 for a CD, and $0.10 per song by download; any more is too much in my opinion. Unless the recording industry learns to compete and offer a unique and valuable service, they will not get my money. Make something unique - a CD with a projectable hologram or something else new and novel.

Hopefully in the future new artists will make better use of the web to market their music directly, and not make the recording industy their rich "pimp." Possibly some can gain popularity by making their music available for free online, and collecting the real money at concerts. The RIAA has made it clear that all they want to bite that hands that could and did feed them. Not a smart move.

The Death Penalty - When is it ever justified?
Posted: 7/9/2008 1:16:16 PM
I am against the death penalty, and have to ask why all the extreme conservatives in the USA are all so anti-abortion, but love to kill real people over which there is no question of them feeling and being 100% a real peroson. It makes no sense. Furthermore, if there ever was a case to justify the death penalty, I would only support it if the legal system never convicted an innocent person. That would make it never.

girls who only date guys with a bach degree and nothing less-discussion with ex and his friends

It sounds like she is trying to impress her family or friends. I can tell you that the paper does no reflect who you are. I made it to 29 without even having a high school diploma (rough life) and legally made up to $3000/week. I now hold 2 degrees and am a 4th-year medical student. I am the same person.

The paper does not make you rich, smarter, or a better person - just formally educated.

How much is enough???

I am well aware of the "per salery" things. I think it is so pretentious. Of course, the diamond industy loves it. It should be more about what you like about the ring, and not the cost.

If you follow "rules," you might lose. Do what you feel like doing.

Not normal, but could be real. Just be careful. Most that fall fast do not last. They like the rust of falling in love, and when the emotions level, they search again. However, give him a chance.

18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man?
Posted: 7/5/2008 10:02:57 AM
SolarPanel, you are correct that no one lives forever, but no one dies at the same age automatically. We also have a great deal of control over this (nutrition, habits, etc). Most 5-year-olds are very similar to other's their age, but the same cannot be said at 50, and especially not at 80. I know people who died at 60, and another that still is working at 100 (he is a doctor in northern Mexico). Take care of yourself, and make the most of every opportunity.

But there's an even more important point for me to worry about. She might kill me in bed.
Sometimes I think we imagine we live forever you know and we don't see that no matter what relationships you have they've all got 'countdown clocks' built in.

18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man?

Handierman, you did bring a smile to my face tonight. Thanks.

I think you are trying to compare every 18-year-old to your daughters. They are not all the same, nor all your daughters. The fact is, I have not exactly been looking for anyone that young, and would generally consider someone that age too young for me maturity-wise and emotionally. However, I did meet someone that age, and she is the sweetest women I have ever met. So, without your approval, I am going to see where this goes. My only reason for being at this thread is to learn from the experiences of other women that were much younger, and learn from their experiences -good and bad - and their opinions.

18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man?
Posted: 7/4/2008 10:04:37 PM
Wow... So, if she does not "know any better," whose fault is that? It seems to me that 18 years is a long time, and with a good father, she should be able to know much about life and relationships.
So, if I have an 18-year-old girlfriend, it is because I could not accomodate a woman my age? Interesting. I could learn a lot from a wise old man like you.

One word.......SICK..... When I was 40 my eldest girl was 18 the other 17.....what is the goodness in that??? Why because she is young and does not know better and two he does not have the ability to accomodate a real woman nearer his age. The only difference between him and a dead animal on the street is the brake marks in front of the animal.

Shari1968, why did you only date the 42-year-old for several months if it was good? I am just curious, and I would e-mail you privately to ask, but your e-mail filter excludes us Americans crazy enough to live outside the USA.

Are women satisfied with American men?
Posted: 6/24/2008 11:28:14 AM
I cannot say that they are satified or not, but overall, depending on tastes, there is not really any other country that has a reputation for having better men. There may be other counties where the men are similar, but I have never heard anyone say, "Wow, you have to go to Greenland to find a man. They are so good to their women."

If anything, men and women are victims of their culture. However, overall, woman are more victims in various cultures than men. This makes a power imbalace between men and woman of various cultures. This combination often is in the favor of the American man, and almost never in favor of an American woman (I consider any English-speaking or western European county equal in this balance).

I have lived many years in the USA (I am an American), but have also lived outside the US). I would say that overall, American (Canadian, Westeran European, etc) woman are the best. However, I did not find my great love of my life in the USA, but in Mexico where I am living.

I think one of the biggest differences is that in the US, woman are used to men hunting them, to they wait for "the one" to come to them (this is not 100% true, and les true with the younger American women), while the women in other countries (eastern European, Latin, etc) have more to lose or gain, and are competitive and open. This is my observation. The women that were up-front with me the most were foreign (in other countries and also living in the USA) or college women much younger than myself.

We were going to build one of those once (in Ellis County, Texas). It is nice to see that one is finally being buit.

If by chance something does go wrong, and you do create a black hole that has a huge hunger to eat crap that will never return, can you please invite our great US president Bush to speak at its opening? (It does not matter that he knows nothing about physics or speaking).

Thanks Chatterbug for your first-hand information. I assume that had he been more flexible, and not had children, less set in his ways, etc, maybe it could have been better.

Did he help you with his extra life experience, or did it just remain a difference?

It is nice to finally hear something from the women that married at 18. Here is another post I found from a woman that was 18.

18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man?

well i wouldn't worry about it too much, chances are it won't last. what kind of 40 year old would marry a child anyway? i mean 18??

Child? An 18-year-old is not a child in technical, medical, or legal definition. Often people alter definitions to try to make their weak point stronger.

"Dihydrogen Monoxide - the colorless, odorless, silent killer of thousands! Help ban this dangerous substance that kills everyone that accidentally inhales it" That sounds so much better than saying that it is possible to drown in water...

Is a 19-year-old a "child"? How about 20, 21, 22? Where in your infinate wisdome do you think someone becomes a "non-child"? Do you recommend that 40-year-olds only date and possibly marry 38-year-old women need an extra 20 years to come out of childhood?

18 year old girl marries a 40 year old man?
Posted: 5/6/2008 9:07:36 PM
I have been a member of this site for a few years now. I actually just deactivated my profile out of respect for the woman I met a few months ago and am dating. I actually was curious to see what others in this type of relationship had to say (not what others had to say about them). I specifically wanted some information from other 18-year-old women that had relationships with 40-year-old men, and what their feelings were. Oddly, my search put me back here at the fish.

My reason for posting is not to argue, but simply to state what I know so that others in this situation might realize that it is a relationship built on two people who might have more to offer each other than anyone else can, not a match of numbers.

First of all, 18 is not a child. For that matter neither is 15, 16, or 17 if the person has been raised to make their own decisions (or forced to make their own decisions), and not have someone tell them what their decisions should be. The United States seems to take the award inhibiting and discouraging maturity amongst its youth. I can assure you nothing happens to the brain of a 17-year-old at midnight when they become 18. Some were mature at 15, some will die an old age without being mature. Eighteen is a legal number, not a magic number.

My interest in this thread is that I actually am 40, and the woman I met is... 18. So, I think I can answer a few questions and break a few myths.

- “He will be dead way before her.” Maybe, maybe not. If it is true love, why wait for the next “perfect” love to appear? SHE may be dead before the opportunity exists again for her. This may be it. Do not let it pass you by. Why not make the best of something real (assuming the love is unique and special). He may also not be dead that soon. Most 40-year-old men that attract young women (aside from the rich ones) are often fit. Even I have a 4-pack (not quite a 6-pack) at 40. I also would not tell me dentist’s father that he should be dead already - the man is still practicing medicine at 100.

- “Why not find one my own age?” I have, just not one that loved me like this one.

- “What could I possible get from her besides sex?” Actually, the sex with 30 and 40-year-old women was hot and good. I do not need money or support... Hmm, maybe the ability to love strongly. Someone attractive that could capture all my attention (although that is not age-related).

Neither of us were seeking the age difference. I never would have thought that I could take someone that young seriously, and she was not seeking anyone over 35. She actually made first contact, and we just talked. It went from there.

So far, we have only discussed the numbers. Many forget that every person has unique experiences, and that it is that, more than the numbers that could make it work or fail. Like the couple that caused this thread to be initiated, no one knows the actual people. Will it work for us? I am optimistic. Why? This woman has done something very hard to do - she has gained 100% of my respect, as well as won my heart.

At 18, she has already worked for 7 years, and still works full-time while taking professional classes. She is a survivor that has overcome things most people will never have to know, and in conditions most will never endure. She is also the sweetest woman I have ever met. (For those that might be a little confused, I am an American living in another country where I met her). Do not ever underestimate someone by numbers; it is simply not enough information.

Dirty old man syndrome
Posted: 2/23/2005 9:11:50 PM
Interesting topic. I was a littel surprised when I saw some of the younger women who were dead set on no one over a moderate, conservative age (3 - 5 years), but see they are the exception.

I am 37, but have looked 27 since I was 18 (some people never change). I am more fit than at 18 (very athletic), and have no children, and will want some in about 4 years... so, a younger woman is perfect for me.

When I was 18 - 25, I only wanted older ones, but many things have changed, and I am impressed my the level of maturity of many younger women. I have many good conversations, and get hit on by 18-year-olds often (sometimes as young as 15!)

People change as they get older. A 5-years-old is like a 5-year-old. But at 40 to 60, some are young, and some are dead. Numbers are misleading.
