Mind Control...no longer a dream ?

and lest we all forget - it wasn't so long ago that Rohypnol was commonly used as a mind control drug..............also check out NLP, some forms of hypnotism (I mean how on earth do you think David Copperfield got Claudia Schiffer....!), sublimal programming which is now banned in adverts in Cinemas and Television and of course alcohol..:-)

The AA actually surveyed their members with regard to whether they felt speed cameras are helpful or not in terms of reduction of accident hotspots. In each survey cameras came last. The full article can be found on the link below:-

I think we're debating the use of cameras rather than whether speed limits are good or not. This mantra "speeding is against the law" is not helping in this debate. I think all of us agree with it. What we are talking about is the abuse of cameras.
If you don't want to read what others have said, then at least become better informed and read the information from the following URL which gives you statistics from different police forces all over the UK. Especially read the table at the end and you would properly understand the truth about the cameras.

Since 1977 the speed limit for cars and motorcycles on dual carriageways has been 70mph, with a 60mph speed limit on single carriageways..
But that's just the point! Speed limits have been deliberately reduced and cameras setup on dual carriageways where no accidents occur. Eg three lane bypass leaving Hammersmith to M4 was reduced from 50MPH to 40MPH and cameras put up.
Also several studies have been conducted since the introduction of speed cameras on whether they've actually reduced accidents....In fact several findings have actually found they increase accidents.
http://www.speedcameras.org/speed_camera_facts.php
So MSG 69 perhaps without realising it, you are indirectly saying that the law is right to increase the number of accidents by setting up these cameras....

Being called Racist amongst other things
Posted: 7/15/2008 7:02:43 AM
I'm sorry to say that ifyou had to make this post, you may be racist but I doubt this conversation or forum will change your mind about who you will date and rightly so. One test people use for whether someone is being racist or not is
If you were blind would you make the same comments and decisions about colour from any perspective including dating........
I don't mean to be racist...but I am as another poster has already said probably everyone is racist in some way. I won't hide it with words such as "preference" even though I have dated white, asian and black or whatever other labels you have for these people. I have also dated fat skinny, "good looking" and not so "good-looking"...at the end of the day all of these people are well.........people. The decision to date them has always been on their personality.
When you make a decision like this you lose out but so do those others who would have benefitted from your perspective. However whether you label your view "racist" or "preferential" it makes no diffference because you quite rightly don't wish to mislead anyone else.
If you were blind would you make the same comments and decisions about colour from any perspective including dating........

I'm sorry the police and cameras are two separate entities. A friend who is on traffic duty has also expressed how dissapointed many within the police forces are with:-
the deliberate lowering of speed limits and
installation of cameras
on roads where no accidents occur....
And they are instructed to uphold this. It is appalling how many motorists who have never had or caused accidents in their lives have been given criminal records over this issue... to the point where councils, police are only enforcing it because it is the law. But sometimes the law is wrong...this may be exteme but speak to anyone who was alive in Hitler's Germany.
The following is from MSN http://news.uk.msn.com/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=8899015
But Swindon South MP Anne Snelgrove, who is parliamentary private secretary to Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly, urged the Tory-controlled council to reject the plan.
"It will be an invitation to boy racers from all over the country to come to Swindon and break the speed limit with no fear of a fine or points on their licence," the Labour MP warned. "I'm urging the council to think again. They need to think about the safety of the children of Swindon on our roads."
Like we had so many boy racers beforehand and they're all going to go to Swindon which is a mess of one way systems anyway! She obviously has no idea.

Today in the news, Swindon Council are thinking of removing the cameras because they recognise that the cameras are being used to generate income rather than promote safer driving. However Labour MP Anne Snelgrove is trying to ensure that they tow the party line.
You can read the story on Yahoo here:-

can the internet be shut down?
Posted: 7/10/2008 9:10:54 AM
One final point as other posters have already alluded to it anyway.
Organised crime has indeed taken to the internet and apparently they can make more money than even in the drug trade due to the lack and consistency of cyber laws around the different governments in the world.
So it is actually not in their interests to shut down the very source of their money.

can the internet be shut down?
Posted: 7/10/2008 6:16:21 AM
Apparently a hacker called Dan Kaminsky has found a way to cause internet chaos (which effectively means shutting the internet down) by poisoning the DNS caches. In terms of the telephone directory analogy it means changing all the phone numbers so that people call the wrong people. Eg you may think you are calling your credit card company but actually its someone collecting your personal information to hack your account.
Links for the article are below, but if you want to know more just google Dam Kaminsky (of course it could be just a big scam for him to get publicity....

paedophilia...is it a mental illness?
Posted: 7/10/2008 5:56:15 AM
i have just been reading a thread on another site, rounding up support to get ian huntley banned from said site..
it has turned into a pretty pathetic slanging match, but someone on there has stated that paedophilia is a mental illness...
i'm not sure i agree..couldn't it be argued that it's a sexual preference?
I also hear that:-
Murder is just a mental illness and that its been argued that it is a life preference.
Bullying is just a mental illness and that its been argued that it is a leadership preference.
Stealing is just a mental illness and that its been argued that it is a political preference for communism.
Rape is just a mental illness and that its been argued that it is a sexual preference for the word "no" which just incites the rapist further.....

can the internet be shut down?
Posted: 7/8/2008 4:15:32 AM
I think there is a thing called electricity
My goodness a sensible post! Electricity is actually becoming a problem. Any natural (or unnatural disaster) can have an effect on internet access if it affects either your telecommunication lines or your power supply. With the increasing demand for power and the number of power outages that are beginning to occur - it does mean people are losing internet access.
Can the internet be shut down on a worldwide scale is another matter.
Estonia was effectively attacked in June of last year via a botnet attack which prevented all external communication.
Governments such as China control the internet access of their citizens (eg you won't easily be able to find information on the tiananmen square massacre if you were searching from within China), therefore it is plausible that the governments could shut down the internet access for everyone simply by controlling what is available.
However it is in the interests of governments to keep the internet alive due to the phenomenal amount of business and easy communication that is dependent and useful for their respective economies.
So yes the internet can be shut down if you take out all electricity and/or telecommunications or create a massive botnet attack that completely floods the internet with useless traffic (however it would take years to achieve this and to effectively infect enough systems without being detected).

Restricted internet access in this country?
Posted: 7/8/2008 3:59:27 AM
Of course, a key point about encryption is that it only needs to be "strong enough" - the classical example being it's no use taking a week to decipher a message that says "attack at dawn"...
Too true! It always makes me laugh when people go on about how everything can potentially be hacked but as you say the encryption needs only to last for a certain amount of time not to mention that some encryption algorithms also change the encrypion key for every other transmission so that it doesn't matter if someone has cracked a piece of the transmission.
However back to the topic under discussion restricted internet access is a concern and does impact on our civil liberties. However as our country moves closer to a police state (I can go on about cameras, the new terrorist laws etc), I suspect not only will we see this but also taxation on internet too.

Speed dating..?
Posted: 7/8/2008 3:37:04 AM
On my first speeddate a bloke told me that the women were very fussy.
My friend owns a speed dating company in London and when he's short of guys I get a complimentary ticket. The ladies at his events are normally quite cute. I don't think I've ever had a tick. Perhaps it is because British women are fussy or choosy or don't know what the hell they want (eg they ask for a nice guy but end up with bla bla bla...). In fact recently a gorgeous lady friend of mine took me aside and said "look if you want to be with women in this country you have go tto treat them mean - that's how I like it....and she's with a guy who constantly cheats on her!"
Anyway I can say that I went to Canada recently and went to a speed dating event there for the hell of it just to compare. I got five ticks and even went on a date with this gorgeous lady who I'm still in touch with. It is bizarre because the only place I find it difficult to get a date is the UK!
So guys...if you're nice and having hassle in the UK finding a date - try a broad (sorry couldn't resist the pun).
Oh and watch "Love Actually" where the nice guy goes abroad and finds someone - so true!

UK Taxes
Posted: 5/27/2008 7:31:07 AM
I'm not sure how the OP thinks fines are included as a means of taxation but if you're wanting to know what to do about it then simply don't break the law, keep out of bus lanes, don't park on double yellow lines (so you block the street for everyone else), and drive within speed limits. Dead easy. Me thinks your 'tax' will be cut by half already.
1/ An ambulance on the outside lane is trying to get past you - so you pull in to a bus lane to let it through and a camera catches you.
2/ You are driving in an area you've always driven in late one night - unbeknownst to you the speed limit has been dropped and a camera set-up
3/ You're lost in a one way system. It is a public holiday and no-one is about. You pull in and put your car on a single yellow line at a drop curb. You go and try to find a way out of the system. Five minutes later you return and parking wardens who were no-where to be seen has issued you with a ticket.
4/ At 1:00am a car is tailing you very closely, you pull in at a road crossing with ziggy lines to let it pass in case an accident occurs. No one else is about - a camera catches you and a fine is sent.
Want more?
There was a series on TV about some of this and the people who have been fined. None of them were law breakers constantly speeding when no-one was looking.

UK Taxes
Posted: 5/27/2008 6:22:52 AM
Firstly, as you get up the ladder in private industry, you realise the occasional jolly an MP might be able to go on is small potatoes compared to the entertainment budgets of some companies. Even smallish companies in my industry rent VIP boxes at football grounds etc.
And you're saying this justifies MP's paying for expense trips for their families and mistresses...?
The governments used to be able to charge less tax by offering less service. Take the NHS.............what used to be a relatively basic service of offering major surgery, pills and consultation now offers state of the art treatment equipment, often costing millions per machine in order to deliver what the public sees as it's right, medical care for all conditions, research into cancer (just look at the survival rates there now!!) it all costs more money.
And this justifies the literally millions spent on consultancy groups that get them......no-where so they tax citizens more to throw at these consultancies who will more than likely give them pay offs when they're no longer in office?

Yes, give up your bin collections, libraries, welfare system, NHS, police protection, Fire service, new roads and repairs, infrastructure, parks, gardens and general maintenance, readily accessible legal system and a host of other services, and you should be able to do away with a lot of those taxes I reckon.
You know I am all for paying taxes - but our taxation system is ridiculous. We now earn less money in real terms than we ever did before and the government used to be able to provide all these services with far less taxes. Now we seem to be taxed on anything and everything to provide our government with all expense paid trips for them, their families and mistresses or to fund bogus consultation groups which tell the NHS/police/education boards everything they already knew.

Just been trying to calculate all the different taxes we have after reading about how we earn less in real terms. Can you list any I've missed out? Is there any thing we can do about this? Here's my list so far:-
Income Tax = 20% - 40%
National Insurance = 12%
Council Tax = depends on area
Road Tax
Television Licence
VAT = 17.5%
Petrol Tax = 70%
Stamp Duty
Cigarette Duty
Alcohol Duty
Stealth Taxes
Airport Tax
Fuel Duty
Inheritance tax
Gatso cameras where they've deliberately reduced speeds to catch people.
Parking Fines
Bus Lane Fines
Import and Export Duty
Business Tax
Capital Gains Tax

Thinking out of the box, or everything black and white?
Posted: 3/4/2008 2:19:34 PM
What is your thinking style? Do you think totally in black and white or 'out of the box', or a combination of the two?
First of all it depends on the situation and the amount of time that you have to make a decision or take some action. Neither method of thinking is right or wrong for every situation but the wrong time of thinking can and will limit your success.
Black and white thinking is good for situations where you have had previous experience with successful outcomes. For example every time you go to a specific restaurant and you pick a certain dish because you know you've had problems with other dishes from past experience (eg too spicy, allergies to dairy etc etc).
For problem solving you need to be able to think out of the box. Most innovators and successful people are "out of the box" thinkers when it comes to problem solving. Black and white thinkers are locked into their habits for better or worse.
For example if you look at finding a nice person to settle down with - black and white thinkers who don't have this area of their life sorted will always attract the same types of people whereas out-of-the-box-thinkers will examine this area of their life and try as many fresh and different approaches to prevent them from repeating their previous relationship mistakes.
Examples of this will include:-
1. Deliberately dating people who they may have some small connection with but are "not their overall type" in an effort to avoid attracting the same type of person who will abuse them in some way.
2. Taking things slowly if they tend to rush in too quickly and experience burn out.
3. Taking things faster if they have lost good relationships because they've taken things too slowly.
4. Finding ways to be attracted to people who would be good for them.
5.Will initiate contact with the right people if they are constantly getting the wrong people contacting them
In terms of black and white thinking in dating terms they might not be open to smokers because from experience they know they are allergic to smoke.
Overall I am a out-of-the-cuboid-thinker with some orange and purple thinking and it is simply a matter of time before I create the right profile, have the right pictures with the right first and second emails, the right first and second meeting approaches to one day attact the right person to me.
If I was a green and blue thinker that could not think outside of my isoceles triangle then I would think that my profile, pictures, emails were correct and it was the rest of the damn world's fault and all people on a site were screwed up.......

How and why did you join POF..
Posted: 3/3/2008 3:44:32 PM
Googled free dating sites and found PoF. Thought I'd use PoF as an experiment to help me write better profiles and better messages than pay for the privilege when I was a beginner - I'm slowly getting better...... - will probably join a paid for site at some time unless someone comes along. I'm actually better meeting people face to face as they can see and get a better feel for me so internet dating is difficult for me but I also have a very busy life runnning several businesses so don't have the time to just go and meet people without some pre-communication.

Internet Stalking!
Posted: 3/2/2008 2:30:44 PM
Stalking isn't for everyone. The problem with stalking I find is that your life is not your own.
What I mean by that is you can't go and do normal things, you just don't have enough hours in the day. Finding someone to stalk is often harder than you think too. Best to give it a trial run, and find someone who is already being stalked. Then you can stalk the person who is stalking them. See how they get on. The other problem i find is that you have to choose the the 'stalkee' very carefully, because there are some right weirdos out there.
I absolutely agree with this - remember safety first! You really need to make sure you're not stalking some loony and the best way is to stalk the stalkers. You can find out more about these stalkers by searching for them on the internet and generally following them about and making sure that the people they visit are themselves not weirdos. As you can find out a lot about stalkers by the friends they keep. Just be careful not to be seen by them or that someone else isn't stalking you stalking the stalkers stalking the stalkee.

Older Women And Younger Men Dating.... What Do You Think?
Fantastic! Older women, in general (but not always) have less insecurities, are more in tune with their own bodies, are more down to earth, don't have unrealistically high expectations and don't revolve their life around the guy. One of the best five years of my life....

How do you deal with the early stages of a relationship?
Posted: 3/1/2008 3:14:32 AM
tch tch so many people scared of the "L" word....
Unfortunately dating and even making friends with people of the opposite sex is hard after awhile. Not because of expectations or even just enjoying the time with someone but just because it becomes "same old same old" and really you just want to settle down and have and new adventures with the same person.

Naaah look guys this is how it works in general...(obviously there may be a few exceptions but these are few and rare). So:-
Great looking guys and girls say " if you want to know more just ask..."
Not so good looking guys and girls write a lot more....
Great looking guys and girls tend to give one word answers
Not so looking guys and girls tend to write a lot more....
What's to understand???? Make up your mind about what you want......
So when the great looking chappies and chappesses get tons of email....their response is irrelevant because if you're not interested in their one word answers...well loads of others will be....
So in answer to the question uh huh you have nothing in common....unless the nice looking chappies and chappesses fancy a shag at the time.....
And if the great looking chappies and chappesses are looking for a long term relationship AND they happen to have some intelligence....well you better be on a similar level or else you will still get the same response or alternatively they'll just ignore you...
ciao ciao....and remember you heard these great words of wisdom here on PoF

have players ruined the dating game on the internet that much that no one can trust anyone now
Damn those Brad Pitt and Jessica Alba look-a-likes!!!!! Is nothing sacred any more????? I mean what makes them think that they can go round attracting people and then dumping them. This is totally out of order. Quick let's go back to drunken bars and random strangers off the street - before they realise we've all gone, it'll be too late.

Why do Women Dissapear ?
Posted: 2/16/2008 7:49:19 AM
Why after getting on" like a house on fire" do women disapear never to be seen again? Is it something we say in our messages ? It must be as that is the only form of contact .
My mother says its because random magic pixies fly in and circle around their head when they're asleep spraying little fairy dance all round them. Then when they wake up they are transported to a world of their dreams. She said its really good for them and we should be happy for them even though its a bit sad and disconcerting for us and we'll never hear from them again unless a Pixie hasn't sprayed enough fairy dust.

UK and the US: What are the good and bad points
Posted: 2/14/2008 4:01:39 AM
^^^^^^^ Yes Americans do have this interesting habit but you could help them by wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm from Melbourne, Australia." That will be £50 for the consultancy...

UK and the US: What are the good and bad points
Posted: 2/14/2008 2:10:47 AM
I woul d say it is difficult to compare as each State in the US that I have lived in is different from the others. I really enjoy living in the UK and in general I would agree that the northerners are more friendly than us people down south although there are of course many exceptions.
USA Pros
=======
Easier to date in the States as many ladies in the UK still have this mentality of needing to be asked out first.
People are easier to suss once you understand the State they are living in
UK Pros
======
Sarcasm and understanding of the nuances of the English language - New Yorkans also have this trait.
People in general tend to be politer
Yes, see I'm writing all this and am thinking but.... we seem to becoming more and more like the LA Americans which has never been one of my most favourite places....you know litigation, fussiness etc etc ....ok on second thoughts it's too difficult to compare!

I have found that in general many of the posters on this forum are real gentlemen but it doesn't seem to matter to many of the ladies on PoF........perhaps these gentlemen are too nice.....

The Justice System
Posted: 2/11/2008 9:05:40 AM
In my area, according to a recent paper, 1 in 20 crimes in our area is solved 1 in 3 murders is solved. Our prisons are so over-crowded that deliquents who mug old ladies etc are given comparatively light sentences. People who reach the maximum speed points (12) are branded criminals. Gatso cameras are being used to make money for the government and councils - eg by placing a camera and reducing the speed limit as in the triple carriageway from the M4 to Hammersmith and so on....PC gone made in judgements. Home owners who protect themselves using reasonable force against burglars battling legal bills for GBH....and on and on.
If you were in government, how would you sort out our legal system? Where would you even start?
EDIT VVVV There are a lot of people pro vigilantism at present. In addition the majority of people living here have asked to bring back capital punishment!

Dating Site Scammers
Posted: 2/11/2008 8:57:56 AM
Lol - scamming the scammers! They have stunnig pictures, bad English, put that they live in strange places in the UK only for you to find out that they are in Nigeria. Use cut and paste techiques for email. Always tell you that you need to call them at a specific time, try and get your modible details as soon as they can.....
One scammer told me that she didn't have enough money to get back to the UK and that she was living in the hotel. The more I happily chatted with her, the more ridiculous her story became. Ie trapped in hotel, then trapped in room - I told one that my friend would bring the money to her and that she needed to get to the airport. She told me that she was trapped and they only allowed her access to the internet.
However one nice thing about scammers is that they do send you mail...

The UK NHS System
Posted: 2/7/2008 4:12:36 AM
^^^^ I'm not sure I understand!
1. I thought part of the tax that we pay goes to support the NHS (presumably these are our stamps) and a lot of money is wasted on consultancies to tell the government what our doctors and nurses have been tellingthem for ages.
2. As our taxes are paying for the NHS so it is unfair for our hospitals to treat EU citizens unless member countries are contributing to our health service or have I misunderstood something?
3. Cleanliness of our hospitals has been an issue that has been cleared up.
4. We are still working on our waiting lists and prioritising of patients.
It would be a sad day for the UK if we have situations as we have seen in the US where US citizens have been literally dying on the hospital steps and can't get treatment due to lack of insurance.

The UK NHS System

Without going into a rant with what's wrong with the NHS, it would be great to find out from PoF members what they would do if they were in government to begin improving our NHS system and how long they think it would take.

Would you take part in a demonstrating march

Yes I would and I would also deal with what is happening in our country using many other avenues and I have greatly appreciated the different perspectives posted in the Education thread.

A plastic soup twice the size of America
Posted: 2/6/2008 3:20:03 AM
No I disagree we can afford to clean up this mess. Our governments spend so much on arms and defences and pay massive salaries to footballers, movie stars and so on. We could begin setting up projects to deal with this and clean out our waters in perhaps a decade or so.
The issue is what to do with the plastic. Perhaps make a coke bottle that goes to the moon?

Governmental change and social revolution prevented by Pubs, internet and television
Posted: 2/5/2008 12:30:55 PM
^^^^ Yes I really want to know and I really appreciate all yor contributions to this thread. We can read reports of problems in crime and education in our own parliament documents. For example
http://www.parliament.uk/commons/lib/research/rp99/rp99-111.pdf
MSG I'm assuming you're quoting the figures for 2004/2005 from places such as:
http://www.rapecrisis.org.uk/100yearsoffending.xls
Please note that these are 2004/2005 figures:-
a. check out 2006/2007 figures
b. notice the trend in the report you read
c. these are only reported figures - estimates are at least 100% higher!
We are all involved in some way and this is one of the reasons we look to our forums for their opinions on a wide range of subjects just to see if we're spot on or just having a rant. We can all vote about governments but I am more interested in what we can do to bring about governmental change at a grass roots level and why when so many people have a belief we are still following our government into messes that we don't support. On our forum we often moan about different areas of government and I'd like to look at ways in which we can actually bring about change. In other words if we were in power what would we actually do to resolve reality or perceived reality of situations. However we view our figures, trust in the government is at an all time low - this is a fact. The word "politician" now has connotations of liar or at least someone we could not ever trust. Do you really want me to locate every single fact and figure regarding health, education, immigration, PC madness and many other issues? Instead we should be looking for solutions and opportunities that we can present our government and local councils.
