Thought I would pay a visit back here to say...
HAPPY THANKSGIVING, EVERYONE!!!
I am in GA with my mom, we are fixing all the traditional stuff.
She just came home from the hospital after a 3 month stay, after Drs. said she would never come home...so I have a lot to be thankful for.

Do we really want to be in a relationship?
Posted:
11/3/2009 5:57:28 PM
(answering this just based on the opening post...not on any subsequent posts)
Hell, yeah...I want to be in a relationship!!!
I want to get that funny tingling in my stomach everytime he smiles at me. I want to hold hands like teenagers, share secrets and giggle over them. I want to cook all his favorite meals and hug his neck when he brings me flowers. I want to pretend to be mad when he has "one too many" with the boys. I want to thank him for spending time with my mom and my kids...and he says he enjoyed it.
I would change, rearrange, turn my world upside down for the right person. I have done it before and it was worth it. I would take the chance and do it again.

Do you really like the opposite sex?
Posted:

Sure I do...most of them.
I like men a heck of a lot better than I do women. I find that men don't seem to be as petty and judgmental as a lot of women are.
As for men liking women? It happens.

Bree: That sounds wonderful.
I have one question...what is chicken base?
My first thought was broth but you have that listed separately.
Do you think leaving the carrots out would make much of a difference in the taste?
Oops, I said one question and I asked two.
SS: I managed to stay out of the "pokey" by keeping my mouth shut even when it was hard, feel bad for those who didn't and can't post at the current time.
Keep an eye on this thread...I'll probably have questions for you as Turkey day gets closer.

First Contact
Posted:
10/10/2009 6:29:45 PM
I don't understand why some people can't respond to a question without being insulting. Does it make them feel better about themselves? Do they think anyone is impressed?
Rhetorical questions...I expect no answers.
LET THEM EAT CAKE
About men making first contact:
Some of us women think that is the way it HAS to be. It is the way we were raised. Old fashioned? Heck, yeah.
It is hard for me to make first contact...that old "fear of rejection" is always there. I realize that men don't like rejection, either, but...you guys are suppose to be tougher than us ladies.
I keep my setting where no one can see that I viewed them. However, if I see someone I am interested in, I change it long enough for him to see me on his "viewed me" page. That is about as brave as I can get.
Sad, I know...but sometimes it works.

Jerseygirl: Thanks for bringing up turducken...what a concept, huh?
I know it has been brought up before, maybe even in this thread, but it never hurts to mention it again. There are always people who have never heard of it.
Unfortunately, your link doesn't work. I think it might be the k in turk. I didn't try it without it, yet.
I have yet to have it and I most certainly haven't made it. Scares me to think of even trying. There are sites where you can buy it already prepared and ready for cooking and you can buy one already cooked...maybe one day.
Here is a link to another site that gives step by step instructions, with pictures, on how to do it.
http://www.thesalmons.org/lynn/turducken.html
Would love to hear stories from those who have been brave enough to attempt it.

Canadian Thanksgiving Day...Oct. 12
Okay, all my Canadian friends...I want a menu. Whats for dinner? I am sure a lot of you will be cooking over the weekend.
Here in the states we still have over a month before our Thanksgiving, thinking maybe we could steal some great ideas/recipes from you.
To my two favorite Canadians...you know who you are...love you and thanks for what you did.
Looks like my family is going to have a reunion and we are planning all the traditional stuff. I would love to do something just a little different, that would surprise them (since I am hardly "the cook" in the family) and knock their socks off, any ideas?
SS: Your dressing recipes above are definitely the type stuff I'm looking for.

Horseradish: Never have I used it fresh. I have seen the roots (?) in the produce section of a grocery store...never bought one. Wouldn't have known what to do with it but I will keep an eye on this thread, always open to learning new stuff.
I wouldn't dream of eating a prime rib without horseradish and I use it to make shrimp c ocktail sauce, that's it.
I am really interested in this thread, really. However...I admit to using it to check and see if I still have posting privileges.

Oyster season is coming.. How do you like them?
In the shell...no, not the half shell. In the whole shell, in the ocean where they belong.
Actually, eating an oyster is on my "bucket list" (got to add it to my profile) and Drifting's way of preparing them might tempt me to try one.
AS FOR THE REST OF YOU GUYS:
Yeah...you know who you are: Beth, SS, La, Tazz...you're cheating on me!!!
Geeze, let a good looking guy from NC start a thread and I am forgotten all about.
I can understand the ladies, but you guys???

Just a short amendment. You do not HAVE to own a motorcycle to join us. If you have a car\truck and want to join us for meetings and rides, that is FINE. Back seat riders are also welcome.
Cool!
True confession here...I am almost 50 and have never ridden on a motorcycle. *hangs head in shame*
Not because I'm afraid of them, just never been at the right place at the right time, I guess.
It is on my "bucket" list, though.
Knip: I hope this takes off, good luck.

I didn't get an invitation to it.
Not that I could have lasted any longer, I went to my room and crashed.
Didn't even wake up in time for their breakfast.
The pictures are great. It's fun looking at them.
Again, thank you to those who took the time to take them and get them on here.
I was there from start to finish yet there are pictures of people I don't remember seeing.
Does that happen to anyone else?

Crash: You're a funny, funny guy.
It wasn't THAT many changes and you weren't even suppose to notice. Bringing only one to the next party...so I won't be tempted to change.
Wish I lived closer so I could make the pre-parties. Sounds like you have something interesting up your sleeves.
Thanks again for the great party.

My apologies to Denim and Pistols for mixing up there names. Thanks, SS for catching it and correcting it.
Also, SS, I tried to catch you by private mail in time for you to edit your post. Seems you made a little mistake, too.
Random Entry is a "he", not a "she".
(promise this wasn't tit for tat)
Raxarsr: Thanks for your brine recipe. Always nice to have you posting on here.
I am going to finally try this brining thing for myself this year. Just so many good sounding recipes to choose from.

Justbunky: message #18 has a brine recipe by Pistols and Pearls. You can't go wrong with any recipe she posts. There might be more on here that I missed.
Also, here is a link to a simple (but I'm sure good) brine...it says for chicken but I'm sure it's good for turkeys too.

WHAT A PARTY!!!
Dan, Dawn, Michelle and Rich: Thanks so much!
It was quite evident the planning, time and effort that went into making it such a great party.
Sandy: I have a special thanks for you...be looking for an email.
To the brave men who danced with me: Thank you!
I had a lot of fun. The new venue was great. I loved that it was just for POFers and their guests (not to mention the men that certain ladies flirted with at the pool).
Crash: It was a pleasure meeting you.
LadyDi and Rex: Enjoyed sharing a table with you.

Rusty and USAgirl: In regards to your questions about why you did not receive the email, this is what BigFish had to say in message 45...
I only messaged users who viewed an infected profile.
I received the message...so, of course, I changed my password.
Even if I didn't get the email, after reading this thread, I would have changed it anyway. Not like it's difficult to do.
I thank Markus for taking prompt action with this and doing what he felt was best for our protection.

SS...I, too, have been curious about when certain members have joined. If they don't post in the forums there is no way of knowing...or is there?
I think there is a way to get a general idea if you want to do a little digging.
I may be completely wrong but I can't help but think our POF member number (look in the address bar when on a profile) might be in order of our joining.
For example:
A poster who joined on 8-18-05 has a number that starts with 780 thousand.
I joined on 4-27-07 and my number is 3,950,877.
One who joined on 1-18-09 has a number that starts with 14 million.
Get the idea?
Of course, just asking is easier.
Also...many people delete their profiles and come back again and again.

I am so happy for you...treasure every moment you spend together. Thanks for what you posted.
Thanks also to Dan, Sandy, Hallie and Michelle...I just love you guys!!!
Please know I wasn't looking for attention or more sympathy here...
Just wanted to tell my story and wasn't even going to mention Don's death until the "Ice Maiden" made me mad.
Those who need sympathy are those who try to destroy other's happiness...because they have none of their own. I feel sorry for two posters on here...one is obvious, the other is hiding behind a different name and false profile, how sad is that?
I do wish them love.
Love is a great thing...I have been lucky enough to have had it twice in my life.
Am I giving up?
HELL NO!!!
I want it again...it was that good.

Any relationship that no longer continues is a "FAILED RELATIONHIP" regardless of reason, and to try and reason it any other way is truly ignorant.
My relationship with the man I was with for 3 years did not FAIL. As I said...sometimes things happend beyond your control.
I am quite sure he did not mean to die.
I will ALWAYS consider it a VERY successful relationship.
APPRENTICESOUILMATE - that is a classical example of a pure ignorant statment.
The only ignorant statement I saw was yours, that he quoted...as I did.
Does it get terribly cold with icewater running through your veins?

Jessie: You have been on here for less than a week and haven't found anyone interesting or compatible? Gosh, there are so many great guys on here. If I was dating right now I would have a hard time choosing.
I, too, consider myself picky...but as I said in my earlier post:
You may THINK that someone isn't right for you but until you give it a chance you will never really know.
As for wondering how long the relationships lasted? The majority of people remove their profiles when they find someone. Starting a thread would not give you an accurate idea of how many
successful, long lasting
relationships were formed here.
Relationships end for many reasons, doesn't mean they were bad or "failed" relationships, sometimes things just don't work out...sometimes things beyond our control happens.

Good thread, CK. Interesting stories here.
I wasn't going to post but I just couldn't resist.
About 4 years ago I was on a dating site (okstupid) and was contacted by a man. We exchanged a few emails, he wanted to meet. I didn't see the point in it. It became obvious we were worlds apart. He was very philosophical.
Very intelligent and well informed when it came to things like politics, religion, literature and current affairs. Oh, and he didn't drink.
Me?
I knew the lyrics to over a million country songs.
I knew the names of every NASCAR driver, their car number and who their sponsor was AND I consumed a lot of cold beer while learning all this important information.
What in the world would we have to talk about???
We didn't meet.
Fast forward 3 months.
I join POF and the same man contacts me. After numerous emails, IM's and phone calls he convinced me to meet him.
I still wondered what we would have in common...what we would talk about???
Well, I don't remember exactly what we talked about that day but we did it for 6 hours straight.
The rest is history.
We had 3 great years of learning a lot from each other, experiencing new things and enjoying our time together.
The moral of this story:
Don't rule someone out because you think you have nothing in common. Give it a chance...you just never know.

Cayenne: I clearly stated that no one was criticizing you.
But...
as long as you are going to work on it, grammar is spelled with an "a" not an "e".
I admire your desire to learn and improve yourself.
I think you will do fine as a host. I was just saying that if you are going to ask for suggestions, then take them graciously. You don't have to agree with them, just don't be a smart a ss about it.
There is a lot of interest in a camping trip so please...carry on and good luck.
Ron: I went back and looked at the pictures of Campstock...looks like a nice location and looks like they had a lot of fun.
Slipper: I love Turtle Beach. I actually got married there, on the beach, in 1982.
I haven't been back there in ages. I wonder if it's changed much?

Oh my gosh...did this ever hit home with me.
So sorry about Terry's death. Sudden death is so hard to grasp and understand.
Two and a half weeks ago (August 13) my boyfriend of three years died suddenly. We met on this site and stayed on it because we enjoyed the forums and the friends we had made here.
I did not know how to tell everyone. Right or wrong I did it in a thread. The response I got was amazing. I was told over and over again how much it was appreciated that I let everyone know...there were just too many people to email individually. The posts on that thread and the personal emails were such a help to me.
POF is more that just a dating site...true friendships are formed here.
R.I.P. Don (Fluke Slywalker) I love and miss you.

Are we going camping this fall????

Hey Zesty...What's up?
First, you criticize posters for a LITTLE banter, it's called a "sense of humor" you might want to get you one.
It was NOT off topic...it was all camping related.
Then, you criticize a poster for HER writing style.
No one was criticizing YOU about YOUR spelling or poor grammar.
If you were not open to suggestions why did you ask for them?
The place I suggested is very centrally located, thought that would be a good idea.
Your mind is made up on what YOU want and where YOU want it.
If you want it in your own backyard, fine, no problem. I wish you luck. Nothing is wrong at all about a host wanting to hold an event in their own area.
Just post it as an event and people will come.
EDIT:
I do see where your opening post mentions southwest FL, I just did not realize you wanted it limited to that area.

Never been there but heard about this place. It is in Lake Wales on Lake Kissimmee.
Grape Hammock Fish Camp
http://www.grapehammock.com/tent.html
They have boat rentals and airboat tours.
Tent sites are 12.00 a night for up to 4 people.
Cabins, trailers and rv sites are also available.
It would be great if everyone interested in a camping trip would look around their area and make a suggestion then maybe it can be narrowed down to a couple of locations and a vote could be made.
I thinking camping in a tent sounds like fun, more like how camping should be. However, I have never done it before so, who knows. Gotta try it once, may not do it again.

I am so sorry I couldn't make it but the phone call made me feel like I was there.

That hay sure looked like some fun, wonder how many of you are still picking it out of your hair???
Dan and Dawn: Looks like you guys outdid yourselves, again. How are you going to top this one?
Can't wait for the next party.

Hey...it was so cool "talking" with you guys on the phone a few minutes ago. I heard everything, thank you all so much.
I am so sorry I couldn't make this one but I will be at the next one.
Can't wait to see the pics and hear the excuses about why certain halos came up missing or got a few dents in them.
You guys are the best!!!

Well...gee. I thought by now I would read some reports of how ladies night/pre-party went. *sighs*
Guess I will just go on to bed and read about it in the morning. Always interesting to get the latest "halo" report.
Thinking about opening a
Halo Repair Shop
in N. Lakeland...might be very profitable.
Love you guys, just checking in on you.

READ THIS IF YOU NEED TO RENEW YOUR TAG OR DL SOON!!!
Posted:
8/27/2009 2:08:58 PM
The State of Florida is jacking up its drivers license and license plate fees (i.e. taxes) by over 50% in many cases beginning Sept. 1 (and, of course, the state employees will get no raises again this year). I was just at the DMV today and the clerk urged me to tell my friends to hurry in to renew before the new fees take effect. She said that anyone that has tags up for renewal in Sept, Oct, and Nov can renew now at the old rates. (Those up for renewal in December or later cannot renew this far in advance...Sorry.) And for icing on the cake you can lock in the old rate for 2 years by paying for both years up front.
I read this today and was skeptical so I called my local tag agency and it is true. Whatever you normally pay to renew your tag will be double the price after September 1. That is just a few days from now.
I am going to renew mine tomorrow and do it for 2 years. Luckily, I can renew early because my birthday is in Nov.
Anyone with a birthday in the next 3 months might want to consider this.
The cost of renewing a driver's license is also going up...from 20.00 to 48.00. From what I understand you can renew your license MANY months in advance. Hey...it can save you 28.00 if you do it now, may not be a lot of money but...
Just a FYI information for anyone out there like me who always seems to be the last to know.

Favorites and last five posts no longer show on your profile

I noticed this today. There is a thread about it in the
Plenty of Fish Site/Suggestions/Help
forum. Below is the link.
http://forums.plentyoffish.com/12986574datingPostpage6.aspx
Just curious about what the local fishies think about this.
Personally, I liked the last 5 posts showing on our profile...most of the times.
The number of favorites showing? I guess it served it's purpose but it is nothing I will miss.

Yay!!!
Going to Sarasota tomorrow to see my daughter and granddaughters.
Youngest one turns a year old.
My car leaves a lot to be desired so I haven't been able to get there since they moved.
Going with the "other" grandma (they love me best...I just know they do)

What a neat thread, Amberly. Thanks so much for starting it.
I would love to add some songs but every one I think of has already been said. What a lot of great memories they bring back.
Hallie: I, too, am listening to your playlist. Great songs.
Missing you
by Diana Ross had me shed a few tears...but they were good ones. Beautiful song. Thank you!
Hey this is a happy, fun thread...no mention of anything.
Got it?
Good.
Wow! Now I have a lot of songs to look up. There were so many I never heard of. I would like to think it was bacause they were before my time but I have a feeling that's not the case.
Might have something to do with all that country I have been listening to since I was 5 years old.

When Did I Get Old ?

When Did I Get Old?
Not sure exactly WHEN it happened but I realized it DID one day when I was looking in the mirror.
MY MOTHER WAS IN THERE!!!
She was. She was in my mirror looking right back at me. I told her to go away but she just sat there...mocking me.
Nothing was the same after that.
I realized that when my kids called I would put them on a guilt trip for not calling more often. I would tell them I "understand" that they have "better things to do" than to come visit me.
Is it no wonder that I get more emails from them than phone calls now?
Lately I have been thinking that polyester might be more comfortable than denim.
I bought a bra. Haven't worn it yet but I bought one.
Doctors are younger than me...some are even younger than my kids.
Heck, even the PRESIDENT is younger than I am!!! AAAACCKKKK!!!
However...I keep telling myself:
I aintold, I aintold, I aintold, I aintold...
fun thread...thanks!

I TRIED! At least 'nobody' drop-kicked me to my KNEES this time!!!!
This time??? Leslie? On her knees?
Alright...who has pics? Will pay.
Dance hillbilly style? Wouldn't that be something like clogging. Hell...if I get
enough moonshine (beer
) in me I can jump up and down as well as anyone.
Can I carry my jug to the dance floor?
Slipper: I was glad to see you signed up...looking forward to meeting you.
Really looking forward to this party.
I told Fluke he couldn't shave a week before the party...to look the part. Also trying to find him an old felt hat and some overalls, however... not to sure how cooperative he is going to be. I might have to promise him to wear some Daisy Duke's.
I think Ma Kettle is more my style.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks.
