Can you sound too confident??
Posted:

No. Giving less information, is not being something else, it's giving the other person a chance to shine and to feel confident with you before you lay all the cards out
Right I get it now, let them feel all confident and happy, and then pull the rug from under them ...
Nice.........
Not ...............................
Thanks for summing up exactly what I meant about people often taking things the way not intended.
Something nice and subtle would have been fine though, you didn't have to be so deliberate about it though

are you guys put off by confident women?
Depends, what some call confident can come across to others as being full of themselves (no disrespect intended of course; I'm not saying that's the case in this instance - but sometimes people do have a habit of taking things the wrong way).
Personally the serial dating would put me off more than anything (yes I know it shouldn't, it's very American and all that), but I presume the three individuals weren't aware of each other?

Time wasting?
Posted:

Question is are these sites bad for me?
Would I be better leaving the whole business.
No, you'd be better off just thinking of it as an extra option - it's just one more avenue open to you in meeting people. There seem to be far too many people (not necessarily you) who come into online dating thinking that, just because there is a site full of other people who are (mostly) single that they are going to be able to easily and quickly find a partner. It doesn't work like that. It make take a week, a month, a year, 5 years, or it may never work for you personally. Everyone is different.
I get a strong feeling that many women 'dating' on line arent actually interested in dating, they are playing some other game, more to do with attention seeking
Some; maybe, but on the whole; no they aren't timewasting. What a lot of people are on here, however, is very picky. The nature of this site; being able to window shop and look at everyone else in such an in-depth manner without ever having met them means that people will often be very judgemental, or look for an ideal (whether they realise that's what they are doing or not). Your spelling may put people off, your interests, your musical taste, anything trivial like that. Just because they are not interested in you in the way that you would like to be does not mean they are messing people about. And similarly, just because they are not interested in you romantically does not mean that there is anything wrong with you. Just hang in there, leave your expectations at the door when you come onto this site, and take each experience on here as it comes.
But above all, don't take any rejections on here - especially without having even met the other person - on a personal level.

10 people who have replied here have stated on their profile that they are "non-religious" yet you all celebrate Christmas and decorate your house, I just have to ask, why?
Because it's a festival of greed and time away from work of course!
There's always someone who wants to ruin Christmas by bringing religion into it ffs

I was told that I should already be receiving 10megs automatically. I'm not,
When the 10mb thing went free a few months ago you had to sign up to it via the website, it wasn't done automatically.
Don't expect to actually get 10mb though, according to speed checkers today mine was 2mb at about 6pm, and is currently 3.6mb (at midnight).

the customer measured the windows and doors, and went direct to the window company. And paid the window manufacturers for supply only
And do you have tangible physical evidence to prove this?

Ok so you have messaged somebody, they reply (happy days) you send them another message, but then they don't reply back.
There's always the chance they could be busy, or have computer problems, but generally take it as meaning they are not interested.
Just be glad you got any sort of response whatsoever, most of the time you won't

Certainly hope not, that would be a stupid and pointless thing to do.
I prefer a manual, I have driven an automatic only once and felt so out-of-control of the car I would never willingly do it again!

Yes, you're missing the fact that i was commending an individual who was honest enough to document that they were transexual in their profile even going as far as to stae that they retained their male genitalia; how if it is there in Black and white is that decieving anyone?
That's his current profile, not necessarily the one that was in use at the time, and he didn't necessarily meet the guy in question on POF.
Yea, really black and white!
Read the original post, he says "
I thought he may have known about me turns out he did not
". That is not the words of someone who has been honest. Do you not think that this kind of situation warrants a little bit more than "I thought he may have known"?
He then states that he found out the guy didn't know he was a bloke, yet is very clear that even when he found that out, the other guy still didn't know he was a bloke. How exactly does that work then? They have a chat about what the other guy would think if he found out he was a man instead of a woman and the other guy doesn't twig on? It's complete garbage, he obviously knew the other guy didn't know and was deliberately keeping quiet about it to revel in the attention.

I too admire your honesty
You're commending a bloke who deceives other blokes into thinking they're going out with a woman for weeks for his honesty?...
Am I missing something?
after he found out he still nice to me but not invited me round or made any kind of jokes around me,
I dunno just suddenly changed.
It's a wild stab in the dark, but do you think that maybe, just maybe, he wasn't gay and didn't want a gay relationship?
Or do you somehow believe that being a transexual does actually makes you a woman and appealable to straight men?
Not meant to be a judgement or derogatory in any way, it's just a bemused reponse to what appears to be a ridiculous post...

Why is it that apparently any type of music is deemed as acceptable apart from metal
What I don't quite understand is, why?
Maybe it's because a lot of it isn't actually 'music'?...
Everyone has their likes and dislikes, music which has a strong identity divides opinions strongly so people will be more vociferous about whether they like it or not, rather than just "I can take it or leave it".
Anyway, the topic is complete wrong - Country & Western and Jazz are also unacceptable

car damaged during service
Posted:
10/5/2009 4:44:30 PM
They did say they were replacing the door, 'a new door' was their exact words and the guy who did it was paying for it himself £500 - is that what a new door would cost?
Sounds about right for a door (paintwork will bump that up a bit though), a skin would be a lot less than that - and if there's internal damage then reskinning wouldn't sort that out.
With regard to all the people making you paranoid about chassis alignment and damaged pillars, ignore it, it's just people on the Internet overacting on very little information as normal. You've seen the damage personally, so regardless of whether you are clued up on cars or not, I would presume that you can see for yourself whether it's just the door that's damaged or other parts of the surrounding area.

As msg #6 says; garage has been decent enough about it, accidents do happen and they are not intentional.
Presumably you can have the work done at your convenience, they are under no obligation to supply you with a courtesy car - and if they are just a small outfit then they won't even be set up to offer that kind of service even if they wanted to.
They'll probably just re-skin the door by the way, not put a completely new one on - unless they are getting one out of a scrapyard or something of course.

Pre-nups agreements in the UK
Posted:
9/29/2009 2:44:30 PM
I hate to scare folks, but it makes very little difference these days if you are married or just living together.
The hell it doesn't, you can't drag your partner through the legal system if you were only living together (kids aside).
As the poster above says, there is no such thing in the UK as common-law marriage, it's an urban myth.
I would use pre nup if I were to marry again to protect my kids inheritance.
And, as has also been said, no such thing as a pre-nup in UK law either, that's another urban myth.

Divine Justice......Does it exist?
Posted:
8/31/2009 4:04:20 PM
Surely one does not need to be bitter or religious to recognise the concept of cause and effect.
Indeed you don't, but "recognising" it does not make it valid in any way.
There are two forms of "Cause and Effect"; Scientific and Philosophical.
Scientific Cause and Effect
is about proven causality imparted on events because of physical relationships.
Philosophical Cause and Effect
has no basis or foundation in any form of reality, it is just one person wanting somebody else to suffer because of something they may have done.
So Karma basically means you want someone to suffer, but to make yourself feel good about it somebody else has to do the work for you. Some may call that 'divine' (I certainly wouldn't), another possible view would be 'coward'.

In the light of a lot of talk about morality, adultery, dark thoughts, etc, where I've noticed the word "Karma" creeping in to people's posts, I'd be interested to know whether you think that Karma truly exists
Personally I've always thought of "Karma" as a piece of hypocritical crap.
It's a form of vengeance and bitterness practiced by people who pretend that they are not vengeant or bitter.
If there's no God, there can be no divine plan, and with no divining entity there can be no equal and opposite reaction

Child Porn and ISPs
Posted:
8/31/2009 6:11:29 AM
That could be because an ISP or filtering service has been blocking a root IP address or an IP address range.
If the owner of the IP range is hosting - willingly or not child porn - my view is tough sh!t -
But the "owner" of the ISP range is not "hosting" anything, they are a gateway, nothing more, nothing less.
Would you prosecute Virgin Media because child porn on the Internet can be accessed through them?
Would you find it acceptable to have
your
internet connection blocked for weeks or months just because someone else on your ISP IP range has been involved in child porn?
By the same logic as you're suggesting, would you also find it acceptable to block every single car from passing down the M1 just because a stolen one was driven down there earlier?
It's quite common for ISPs to fk up when they block things, penalising innocent parties for ages, whilst the actual offender just jumps ship straight away and carries on as if nothing had happened. CP is bad, there's no argument against that. But so is knee-jerking.

Child Porn and ISPs
Posted:
8/31/2009 4:31:46 AM
The majority of ISPs have bowed to pressure from the music industry and agreed to take action against users who are downloading music illegally or posting / uploading the same
Complete waste of time, it's just lip service targetting non-computer savvy people and won't do a thing to prevent the 'hardcore' of offenders as all you need to do is
zip
or
rar
the music files up with a password. All the ISP sees is someone downloading data, they have no idea and no way to tell what kind of data it is. This method is already widely used in torrent files and has been for some time. All that will happen is it will become commonplace.
Should child porn be a higher priority for ISP's to deal with?
Apart from known websites and filename keywords, how exactly does an ISP tell if the image you are handling is such an item?
The computer handling the data transferral from the server to you can't actually "see" the picture and decide what its content is.
Music is, superficially at least, a much easier target - as it's far easier to tell if a file is music than if an image is pornography. It's exactly the same basis that the Police work on. It's far easier to 'detect' a crime such as a motoring offence than it is to go out and catch a burglar, so whilst they may not concentrate on that, the net results yielded are far higher, so it
seems
as if they are putting more priority towards that area as they catch more offenders.

If you don't want a dog - what about a dwarf rabbit?
Or even better; a Giant Rabbit (behave before you start).
I've got a Dwarf Lop
and
a Giant French Lop, the big bunny definitely has the better disposition and is more cuddly.
We going to look at a Ginuea pig
Cavvys are ok, but they're a bit of a pain in the backside toilet-wise. They generally don't adapt well to toilet-training, whereas rabbits tend to be fairly clean in that respect - I can let mine run around for ages without any spills or choccy raisins :)
Either a cavvy or a rabbit is a substantial amount more work to look after than a hamster though...

Why so many fakes?

I am not sure why a guy who is 15-20 years older than me and also bellow my educational level would think that he would be a 'match' for me.
Maybe because matches aren't about
age
or
education levels
?...
(Nice irony on "
bellow my educational level
" though :) ).

They might label each other boyfriend/girlfriend, but it's a big word for what it really is.
Yea, but it sounds so much more respectable than
fk buddies

Is sat nav dumbing down?

Interesting ... So you guys that have trouble with your sat nav giving you duff directions, taking you the wrong way etc ...
Are Garmins more reliable than Tom Toms........ ?
Nope, any SatNav is only as good as the maps that it uses and there will be duff bits in any SatNav system's maps - but they might be in parts of the country where
you
have never been or will never go, but somebody else might. Just because you haven't hit a duff part of your map doesn't mean it's not there...

Why do people have the need to sat nav every where they go be it 2 mile or 25 mile?
Lots of reasons... to obtain an accurate speed, to warn of speed cameras, to have the route summary handy so you know how far you've got to go, etc, etc.
My car speedo is in kilometres per hour instead of miles per hour, it's much easier to check for an accurate speed on the satnav than it is to be performing arithmetic at the wheel.
Is the art of reading a map a dying art?
Anything unnecessary eventually becomes obsolete, it's just a form of Occam's razor at work.
Does it say a bit about education or thinking for themselves?
Personally I'd say it probably does, but probably not in the way you are inferring.
I wouldn't call them stupid, but anyone who does things like that the hard way just to prove some kind of irrelevant point is obviously not thinking clearly. Would you dig your garden up with your bare hands because you think a shovel makes it too easy?

fee charging ATMS

Apparently 40 per cent of ATM's in the UK are now fee charging
And yet, according to LINK (who run most of them), more than 96% of all ATM transactions are done free of charge...
I'd like to know how people feel about this practice, do you think it is providing a valuable service, or do you think that people often in poorer areas are being exploited?
If less than 3% of transactions are done that way, who gives a toss.
Someone has to fund the machines and their maintenance...

You're correct, but the quoted poster did not state that he did.
There is clearly a question mark after the word "guitar"......
Indeed there is, and - as I'm sure you also saw - it was subsequently succeeded by a statement implying that the details of the question were indeed the case, thus rendering the question a rhetorical one.
But don't let me interfere with the pedantic quest of correction and appearing all knowledgeable you appear to be on of late
Rickenbacker certainly played a part in the development of the ekectric guitar, but didn't make a production-volume solid-body version until the 1960s
By the same token, Vauxhall then invented the automobile because they were the first to bring out the Astra.
Except they didn't of course, they just produced a slightly different version of something that was already invented.
Much the same as Les Paul did.

I had no Idea how important he was to music till I Googled him and read all the great stuff on him; his life and contributions!
He invented the electric guitar? Cool! I never knew....
Then you still don't - because he didn't!
Rickenbacker was responsible for the first electric guitar back in the 30's (as far as I am aware).
