Faith in Office

I have a question for the OPer: You say if the person is a good person, and has a nice family and does all his things he supposed to do, but has a different religious view point then you do...lets say he worships Satan, or is into Scientology or belongs to the Cult of the Machine God?

would you still vote for him even if you agreed w/ his politics?

I found this article very troubling:

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/story.html?id=327869

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

there is more, but i have to ask IS THIS EVEN LEGAL?!?!?!?

Spying on your lover's e-mail or Internet activity?
Posted: 3/2/2008 10:26:50 AM

I guess thats cos the NSA are part of a governmental body along with the likes of MI5 etc who also do the same sort of thing, usually picking up on keywords used in mails floating around (I have no idea how they do it), to be honest though unless your a terrorist or a murderer etc whats the harm in having someone in authority checking you out?

I would hardly call carnivore, omnivores and echelon simple packet sniffers. they have to be hooked up to local servers that route internet traffic. They do this WITHOUT permission and WITHOUT warrants.

Meanwhile, in order for some guy to get into his girl's e-mail he needs passwords. if these people got a clue, they would give their pet names or come up with some lame password a 10-year-old can figure out. Is this blaming the victim? Well if you didn't lock up your car and it got stolen should you be surprised? I blame the idiots who can't come up with a decent password and person who can't hire a private investigator instead of playing spy.

Double edged sword, our right to privacy went out the window a fair while ago and i guess its something that we've either got to accept or be frowned at by our "peers" cos the more we do to try to cover our steps even if we are straight laced and the only crime we've ever committed is.

Like the original patriots I don't believe the king has a right to stick his nose in my business, King George and his secret NSA police are no different. I may not being doing terrorist activities, but i'm not going to give up my constitutional rights so cowards can feel safe at night. If they want to read my e-mail, they can read 128 bit PGP encrypted e-mail.

IMHO, they should hire these people to work for the NSA and SS (secret service)

The U.S. jails more of its citizens than China does
Posted: 3/1/2008 12:57:06 PM

Try cleaning up after a car crash where a marijuana smoker misjudged the distance and obliterated 2 other cars at 70 mph. 3 dead people, 4 badly injured and the ONLY abnormal thing in his system was LOTS of THC.

so we continue with this joke we call the war on drugs. It worked great for alcohol.

they aren't in control of their drugs, the drugs are In Control of Them.

and this goes for everything from prescription drugs, gambling, drinking, smoking, hobbies, watching TV, porn, listening to music, stalking, NASCAR, video games, MMORPGs, cleaning, working, slacking off, chatting on the net, religion, etc etc, anything on the face of the planet can be addictive.

where do you draw the line for addictive and a hobby? Too bad it's going to be legalized. At least the jails should clear out

The U.S. jails more of its citizens than China does
Posted: 3/1/2008 8:29:36 AM

It's not like blacks are getting disproportionate sentences.

it means their lawyers suck. Better lawyers = less jail time. there is this one guy who is jail doing 25 to life because he came home and found his wife in bed with another man. The guy killed both of the people in a crime of passion.

in most cases, and with a good lawyer, he would have gotten off with only a Man 2 charge, and only have to serve about 5 years or so.

the majority of people in the state pen are in for lame drug charges. because of the strict drug laws and zero intolerance policies more people will be added everyday.

there is one way out of this...voting and education

Cop Shuts Video Camera Off
Posted: 2/20/2008 5:25:58 PM
This videotape is one example of something that all people, including Police Officers, find quite disgusting. Nobody likes a dirty cop; including other cops.

OMG, it's good to see someone actually speak out against a dirty cop, rather then throw up the "let's wait for the facts to come in" flag.

I understand ALL the facts might not be in, BUT if someone is escorting a person properly, they won't fall, furthermore if there was a problem, the cop could have asked for help.

I for one am glad cameras are here to stay because it backs up the good cops, and kicks out the bad ones.

Saudi Prince threatens Brits
Posted: 2/19/2008 6:55:22 PM

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/feb/15/bae.armstrade

Saudi Arabia's rulers threatened to make it easier for terrorists to attack London unless corruption investigations into their arms deals were halted, according to court documents revealed yesterday.

Previously secret files describe how investigators were told they faced "another 7/7" and the loss of "British lives on British streets" if they pressed on with their inquiries and the Saudis carried out their threat to cut off intelligence.

Prince Bandar, the head of the Saudi national security council, and son of the crown prince, was alleged in court to be the man behind the threats to hold back information about suicide bombers and terrorists. He faces accusations that he himself took more than £1bn in secret payments from the arms company BAE.

He was accused in yesterday's high court hearings of flying to London in December 2006 and uttering threats which made the prime minister, Tony Blair, force an end to the Serious Fraud Office investigation into bribery allegations involving Bandar and his family.

The threats halted the fraud inquiry, but triggered an international outcry, with allegations that Britain had broken international anti-bribery treaties.

Lord Justice Moses, hearing the civil case with Mr Justice Sullivan, said the government appeared to have "rolled over" after the threats. He said one possible view was that it was "just as if a gun had been held to the head" of the government.

The SFO investigation began in 2004, when Robert Wardle, its director, studied evidence unearthed by the Guardian. This revealed that massive secret payments were going from BAE to Saudi Arabian princes, to promote arms deals.

Yesterday, anti-corruption campaigners began a legal action to overturn the decision to halt the case. They want the original investigation restarted, arguing the government had caved into blackmail.

The judge said he was surprised the government had not tried to persuade the Saudis to withdraw their threats. He said: "If that happened in our jurisdiction [the UK], they would have been guilty of a criminal offence". Counsel for the claimants said it would amount to perverting the course of justice.

Wardle told the court in a witness statement: "The idea of discontinuing the investigation went against my every instinct as a prosecutor. I wanted to see where the evidence led."

But a paper trail set out in court showed that days after Bandar flew to London to lobby the government, Blair had written to the attorney general, Lord Goldsmith, and the SFO was pressed to halt its investigation.

The case officer on the inquiry, Matthew Cowie, was described by the judge as "a complete hero" for standing up to pressure from BAE's lawyers, who went behind his back and tried to secretly lobby the attorney general to step in at an early stage and halt the investigations.

The campaigners argued yesterday that when BAE failed at its first attempt to stop the case, it changed tactics. Having argued it should not be investigated in order to promote arms sales, it then recruited ministers and their Saudi associates to make the case that "national security" demanded the case be covered up.

Moses said that after BAE's commercial arguments failed, "Lo and behold, the next thing there is a threat to national security!" Dinah Rose, counsel for the Corner House and the Campaign against the Arms Trade, said: "Yes, they start to think of a different way of putting it." Moses responded: "That's very unkind!"

Documents seen yesterday also show the SFO warned the attorney general that if he dropped the case, it was likely it would be taken up by the Swiss and the US. These predictions proved accurate.

Bandar's payments were published in the Guardian and Switzerland subsequently launched a money-laundering inquiry into the Saudi arms deal. The US department of justice has launched its own investigation under the foreign corrupt practices act into the British money received in the US by Bandar while he was ambassador to Washington.

Prince Bandar yesterday did not contest a US court order preventing him from taking the proceeds of property sales out of the country. The order will stay in place until a lawsuit brought by a group of BAE shareholders is decided. The group alleges that BAE made £1bn of "illegal bribe payments" to Bandar while claiming to be a "highly ethical, law-abiding corporation".

War on Drugs Politically Motivated?
Posted: 2/19/2008 5:40:43 PM

would not be suprised if RJ Morris the big tobacco company is bankrolling anti marijuana legislation because its so easy to grow pot and people would choose cigarettes over marijuana thus maybe never even experiment with smoking period in future generations when pot is readily available.

the tobacco companies were looking forward to the legalization of marijuana. Philip Morris has been anticipating the laws changing, so they can issue Marlboro Blacks.

the war on drugs is a joke. pot is as easy as every to obtain, and now we got meth. the only reason why the gov is cracking down on that is because its hitting these middle and upper middle classes. it had been a problem for 5 years before the idiot government decided it was an epidemic.

$96.2 million for each MV-22 this year, while the FY2005 defense budget request boosts the price 19% to $114.8 million per aircraft. The US Air Force requests three similar CV-22s in FY2005 for $443.0 million; or a unit cost of $147.7 million each. If the $395.4 million requested in FY2005 for V-22 research, development, evaluation and testing is included in this buy of 11 V-22s, the total cost of each V-22 is $159.7 million.

As far as bigger systems are concerned, the cut-off is indeed the equator.

is it gradual or is it all of a sudden? I looked at wikipedia but it didn't answer my questions.

I also have a new one, is there a point where water doesn't drain counter or clock wise? Like in the extreme center of the equator?

is there a point of demarcation for the Coriolis effect? Meaning, when water flows counter-clock wise in the northern hemisphere and clock wise in the southern hemisphere at which point does it change over?

and at the point it changes over is it gradual or sudden? if i was on the equator and i take a step to the left water would flow one way, and if i take a step in the other direction would the water flow in the other direction?

Fun with Viagra
Posted: 2/9/2008 3:57:43 PM
giving away prescriptions is not only illegal it is also dangerous. Just because something is common like Viagra doesn't mean it's safe.

furthermore, if you are caught with it, and it's not yours you can be arrested and in most cases you will.

recently, i was getting a copy of an old court document, and the lady was reading a recent arrest out loud (though no names were given). Some guy was arrested with a bottle of Viagra and he didn't have a prescription. He was charged with possession of a deadly weapon.

of course i thought it was funny, but i would sure hate to go before a judge and explain that one away.

if angels do exist why do they only appear in only 1 religion? why don't the Chinese, Aztecs, Japanese, Incas, Egyptians, Native America or any other culture report seeing angels near death?

why do you hear about them only from fundies or christians? how come atheists don't report seeing angels when near death? Do they only visit christians?

why are winged humans only reported in 1 culture?

mind you the Ananuki were winged humans, but not angels, but visitors from planet X. You just got to love those ancient Sumerian and their stuff.

cops gone mad
Posted: 2/7/2008 9:10:03 PM

I do not see any misconduct...UNLESS this woman was falsely arrested.

I guess you missed the part where the male cops pulled off her clothes and exited the room?

What you have is a media anxious to grab ratings and an angry husband who wasn't at the scene and can hardly be construed as an independent witness.

or you could have police abuse going on. but then again the chief of police DID admit that the male cops stripped searched the woman, and it was against policy.

It is quite possible that the woman in question, knowing that she was being filmed and anxious to profit by the incident, was putting on the performance of her life.

and if she knew she was being filmed, that makes it ok?

you would think cops would want to get rid of someone who gives them a bad rep.

I am so sick and hearing the jaded line of crap "oh but it's soooo stressful."
BOO HOO. get a different job if it's too stressful. Air traffic control officers have a stressful job, you don't see them crashing planes into the ground when they mad, or a surgeon going jack the ripper when his/her significant other gets mad at him/her.

the cops have to follow the rules just like everyone else. they are not above the law.

For what it is worth, December 25th was most likely NOT the day or even the time of the year that Jesus was born and that doesn't confuse the celebration of his birth

it just confuses the masses when the church decided to steal the holiday and use it for their own gains.

im surprised they didn't steal Halloween too and tie it to some other make-believe event...

Police Officers are held to a much higher standard than are private citizens; including when they are NOT on duty. Try living your life under a microscope

they have a gun and shield. if a cop shoots someone, they have a badge, other cops, and an army of lawyers to protect them.

i see no problem with keeping an eye on them to make sure they do their job.

the cops and department in this situation are going to get sued. All i got to say is I hope there isn't a suit cap. the males didn't need to be in the room strip searching the girl, thats a suit waiting to happen. AND they left her alone for 6 hours naked? Do these cops want to be sued?

i just think it's amusing she called the cops for help. that will teach people to call 911 for help.

Pagan misconceptions, can we clear them up?
Posted: 2/6/2008 4:49:37 PM

I have to disagree Mr Bad .. a pentagram is just a 5 pointed star, in a circle its a pentacle. The 5 points refer to the 4 elements and spirit the circle references the divine. Never come across one with points outside the circle unless you mean a circle within the central pentagon, that could be used for summoning. 2 points upwards indicates the Horned God, but its also the symbol for a second degree witch.

Your statement is true and not true at the same time. Gerald Gardner, who popularized Wicca in the 1950’s was looking for try to unify the Pagan community through Wicca. He took many of the popular beliefs that many of the old covens held. Some of the older covens, which traced back to Europe, followed the 5-pointed star down method for fall and 5-pointed star up summer. These groups were in the minority so it didn’t make it into his first book. The book History of Witchcraft by Scott Cunningham talked about the debate that split the community. The majority of the Covens suggest that the 5-pointed star represents earth, air, fire, water and the spirit that joins them. Definition depends on the Coven or person’s personal meaning.

As far as the pentagram/pentacle debate the Illuminates of Thanateros, The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and practitioners of Goetia say define the 5-pointed star whose points outside the circle or no circle at all is a pentacle. The word "pentacle" is sometimes used synonymously with "pentagram", although their technical usages are different, and their etymologies may be unrelated.

Several pagans have both stated that the term 'warlock' is offensive and offered their perspective on the term and its origins. That should be enough.

Thank you!

"I know that in common usage the word 'warlock' means 'male witch', but for many in my circle it has become an offensive term and we prefer just plain 'witch' for both males and females".

You talk about going on line and looking things up, well I looked up the word on Webster.com and the history of the word is: Etymology:
Middle English warloghe, from Old English wǣrloga one that breaks faith, the Devil, from wǣr faith, troth + -loga (from lēogan to lie); akin to Old English wǣr true — more at very, lie

It’s offensive, and there were several requests not to refer to male witches as a warlock. Not very many Pagans want to be referred to as the devil or faith breaker. Your posts continue to insult people by reducing yourself to name calling.

And this one in particular has no problem making unsupported claims about Christianity and it's sacred texts and words.

I can support my claims; you just choose to ignore facts.

has been pointed out, a warlock is by definition a male witch, and that's a fact, not an opinion

You have seen too much Charmed or Bewitched. A male witch is not a warlock. Look it up, even Webster’s says it’s someone who practices the black arts. Thank you for pointing out to the world of your ignorance.

Pagan misconceptions, can we clear them up?
Posted: 2/5/2008 8:44:27 PM
here are myth conceptions i have heard:

calling someone a pagan or witch a warlock (a warlock is an insult, means untrustworthy backstabber)

calling pagans heathens (a heathen is farmer)

Pagan's worship the devil: good and evil are concepts of the church to scare people into following them

the pentagram is a symbol of the devil. A 5-pointed star with the points inside the circle is a pentagram, and used for invocation (what witches use). A 5-pointed star with points outside the circle is a pentacle, and this is used for evocation (or summoning).

a 5-pointed star reversed is a symbol for the devil. sometimes when witches wear one upside down it can refer to winter and fall seasons, while the point up refers to the summer and spring seasons.

Fairys & fae folk
Posted: 2/2/2008 8:39:26 AM
Im surprised no one mentioned the 2 earth fairy courts, the Court of Darkness and the Court of Light. Like pinkie royalty they got pros and cons.

Also fairies can be divided into 5 categories, earth, air, fire, water and aether. Aether types are a mixture of all 4. the others living in various elements, plus there is a combination of others.

if anyone ever travels through the astral plane and past the Gates of Arcadia there are some simple rules.

1. suspend all disbelief, everything and nothing is true
2. know the rules, having to look them up takes too long
3. if you don't know the rules, make them up
4. never accept anything from a fairy not food drink or gifts, graciously turn them down. Nothing is as it seems. If you accept a pot of gold in the fairy realm, and try to bring it back, it may turn on you and you would lose your money in the earth realm
5. All lies are truth, all truth are lies, therefore truth and lies are the same
6. don't piss off a fairy noble

the most interesting thing about fairies is that the world over, there have been similar stories about them, from Africa to Europe to North America to china.

(CBS/AP) Nervous employers cut 17,000 jobs in January
Posted: 2/1/2008 5:37:22 PM

The Loss of 17000 jobs is a blow for sure,

for sure? 17,000 people are out of a job and you are "for sure". Remind me not to hire you are a manager. We would have people going postal if all you can say is "for sure".

but it is a liberal lie that we are losing more jobs than we gain.

can you back this up or is this fact a conservative lie?

Dont you ever listen to Paul Harvey?

no, but have you ever taken an economic class in college?

The Astral Apocalypse
Posted: 2/1/2008 5:28:39 PM

Can you explain this better?

I'm a bit lost, but intrigued

the pesudo-apocalypses were more like maelstroms or bad storms. I don't know about the 50's and 60's, but in the 1970's the military (eastern bloc and NATO) were heavily into remote viewing experiments. this stirred up alot of crap on the astral (the info came from interviews and books conducted by remote viewers and the experimenters, the online sources are mediocre at best).

from what i can gather, the astral is like a clear pond that has a muddy base. when one person goes into the astral to do some work, it leaves an imprint, a minor one, and eventually settles back down. the better you are, the less of an imprint you can make. Some people are more talented then others at doing this.

When you got a whole mess of people stirring things up without regard for what they do, it creates a royal S-hit storm that takes a while to settle down.

in the weeks preceding the invasion of Afghanistan, things started to get stirred up. In 2003, remote viewers & others practitioners of magic (those who were approached by the government) started making a muck of things while trying to hunt down Bin Laden. the government suits were using magic like crazy. It opened up some holes that were not supposed to be opened up. from what I can tell one hole opened up in Dallas. Around the time the hole opened up there was that surprise storm popped up in the real world in Dallas. I think some people reporting that it snowed or something in the middle of June. i remember seeing this on some blogs.

see link:
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/DN-aaweather_29bus.ART.State.Edition1.431d792.html

Anyway, something nasty trying to come through but was stopped. from what i can tell things have started to die back down, though I dont expect it to stay down. As more pinkies are becoming aware of what going on in the astral realm (from christians to atheists) they are starting to explore it. this will again be stirring things up.

sometime around august 23, 2009, 3 planets will be aligning in an almost perfect equilateral triangle. I can't remember which ones (anyone with a planetary calc can figure this out).

on 2012 the earth will align with a black hole. not sure if the apocalypse will kick up then, but im sure something will happen

The Astral Apocalypse
Posted: 1/31/2008 5:35:45 PM
from what i understand there were problems or a pseudo-astral apocalypse in the 1970's. from 1980 - 2003 it was quiet. It died for a year and now thing are building back up.

from my dealing in the astral realm, people, creatures and spirits are in a state of organizing. I think it will pick back up for more fun around august of 09, and it will die down till 2012.

what ever you see here, there is almost a mirror reflection in the astral, and visa verse. Look for signs here, and there would probably be similar signs in the astral.

Is 21st century science the new Tower of Babel (Babylon)
Posted: 1/30/2008 6:17:00 PM
the other similarity i didn't see mentioned was the fact there was 1 language. Right now we have 1 language that binds everyone in the world. We all speak it to some extent, Binary. the little 1's and 0's computers used to communicate everyday. no matter what language we speak as long as we use computers we use binary.

additionally, like the tower of babel, it has brought the people of the world together. if you read the story without reading the names or other fluff it has interesting implications for today.

As much as i mistrust the bible as anything factual, it makes me wonder how true this story could possibly be.

Absinthe truth
Posted: 1/30/2008 3:35:43 PM

Yeah, wormswood (a hallucinogen) They don't distill it with wormswood anymore in the modern age though, so the effects are no longer the same; therefore I have no idea why it's illegal...

you are right and wrong at the same time. TRUE absinthe uses wormwood in it. yes, it does cause hallucinations, but only if you close your eyes. Furthermore, if it doesn't use wormwood it's not true absinthe. American distilleries are not allowed to produce absinthe by law, but it is perfectly LEGAL to buy it online and have it shipped here. But it is not legal to sell it in a business capacity, like a bar or liquor store.

Liquor stores can order it for you, but they are not allowed to accept money from it, therefore most stores won't order it. that's why you have to order it online.

Wormwood is high enough doses is deadly, but in the levels found in a bottle. it won't kill you. the only thing it will do is clean out your system. If you look at the labels of most laxatives, some of them use wormwood in it.

here is a fake absinthe called Absente on the market at most high end liquer wearhouses,

Absente is not fake absinthe. It uses all the same ingredients, the only change is the use of White Wormwood. This stuff is non-toxic even in large enough doses. A bottle of decent absente costs from $30 - $50 a bottle.

I prefer the real stuff, which has to be imported, Canada and France make the best Absinthe, IMHO. The crap from Poland, Germany and English should be avoided. the good stuff will cost you between $60 - $120 a bottle.

the ritual consists of taking the green liquid and pouring a shot into your absinthe glass. Then placing a slotted spoon over the glass. you take your sugar cube and place it on top of the slotted spoon. some people melt the sugar with a light. I have tried this and the stupid sugar cube never dissolves evenly (at least for me). So i just pour my water over the sugar cube.

it turns the dark green liquid into a milky white-green liquid. also use cold water so it goes down easier.

the anise makes absinthe and absentee taste like liquorice. Either you like it or you hate it right off the bat.

If you want the poor man's version of Absinthe, look at getting Ouzo that's made in Greece. it tastes the same, gives the same feelings, but costs less.

For my money I prefer to dance with the green fairy with the real stuff.

cloverfield crap
Posted: 1/30/2008 10:13:18 AM

I think that was sort of the point. It wasn't supposed to look like a professional film, but the recordings of a single, random, amateur camera that happened to catch a lot of footage.

the point im trying to make is that there is a point when shaking is ok, and too much. this movie went over the top on the shaking. I saw blair witch and that didn't even have no where near the amount of cloverfield did.

towrds the end i cheered on the monster.

Study Links Breast Size to Type 2 Diabetes
Posted: 1/29/2008 9:52:35 PM
So why is diabetes reported less in europe? i dont think european women have different breasts then North American women. does anyone know if the study was random?

still, he says, the study of 92,000 women showed those with large breasts and were otherwise thin did exhibit a statistically significant propensity to develop diabetes.

it would be nice if they actually used some kind of stat numbers in the article.
Correlation does not equal causation.

cloverfield crap

I created a post on the same subject. It would have been nice if you would have warned people that your post would have contained spoilers...

but anyway, SPOILER ALERT, the monster came from the bottom of the ocean. in an earlier news broadcast, the newscaster said an oil rig was destroyed, and an oil tanker was destroyed in New York.

the crab people that attacked the army people were parasites that lived on the wanna-be godzilla. it was suggested that the crab people had some sort of bacteria that lived in their mouths that reacted to humans once bitten, kinda like the kimono dragon.

the problem i had with the movie was all the %$@^^%@ shaking. I have seen less shaking in amature porn. why can amatures have less shaking then professional movie makers? Very unrealistic and fake as Anna Nickol Smiths acting.

It was probably to cover up for the lame CGI monsters and crab people.

IF the monster came up from the deep sea, why didn't the sudden release of pressure kill it as it reached the surface?

What Moral Principles do you live your life by?
Posted: 1/28/2008 3:38:27 PM
My moral principle....don't get caught.

if it's barely enough to be considered legal, then it's ok.

do just enough work to make it look like you are working hard

it's better to be over paid and under worked then over worked and under paid...
