The Federal government intends, apparently, to completely "trump" states' rights.

The Feds already blackmail the states into passing state laws that otherwise might not have been considered. Examples are the seatbelt and DUI laws that are tied to federal highway funds. Blackmail, pure and simple.

Now with this ruling on the medicinal use of hemp they have stepped further towards a complete usurping of states' rights.

The marijuana in question was neither bought nor sold and had crossed no state line.

How can that possibly be the federal government's business???

Certainly not a perfect record, but we managed to beat the Emancipation Proclamation ( and good old Abe ) that was signed on the 22nd day of September,1862 by 59 years.


It is always amazing to me (being from the South) that so many people believe that Lincoln freed the slaves with that Proclamation.

In fact, the Emancipation Proclamation freed ONLY the slaves that were in the states in rebellion against the agression of the North. All the slaves in New England were still slaves.

Hey, I really like a lot of the stands on the issues the Libertarians started out with. There are a good many Libertarians in office here in s.c. But there used to be more.

If they could get back to their original agenda of less government, less government, less government, I'd be behind them 100%.

I read one once. It had a green cover.

But the thirty-eight copies of "The Catcher in the Rye" that I own somehow fail to satisfy me. I need another. And another.

Banning books or banning ideas is wrong. But a person who only reads and never experiences is a poor person indeed.

Now I'm not real sure about what's been going on here. The thread is so chopped up with lots of posts missing, I'm not sure I'm getting the whole picture.

But as I was trying to catch up and figure it out, I noticed that those who NEVER want to see a book banned have no problems from deleting/banning the thoughts or ideas expressed in this thread...

What ever those thoughts and ideas were, deleting/banning them seems to me just as bad.

I would definitely support items 9) and 10).

Some of the rest should be considered and implemented in LIMITED ways.

Item 3) is unnecessary. North America should move closer to becoming a single economic and political entity. Not joined or even confederated, but recognizing each other's strengths and weaknesses and making the best of them.

Item 7) would be fine until the world ASKED us to help. Unilateral military action is abhored by most of the rest of the world.

The people of the world look to the "ideal" of America. We should live up to those lofty standards and convince the world that we believe in them ourselves. Not only when it is convenient or in our interests, but each and every time.

We should say to the world: "No better friend, no worse enemy" and mean it.

In 1863, the Emancipation Proclamation DID NOT free the slaves of the North.


"That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.


Note the words, "slaves within any state... the people whereof... in rebellion...shall be free."

Lincoln was one of the worst presidents ever.

The Articles of Confederation, the original document and agreement forming the U.S.A., was the basis for the southern states to succeed. It's authority had never been canceled. Lincoln used force to create the "union".

If he was so cool, why didn't he free the NORTHERN slaves at the same time???

Yeah... I know you were just teasing (like we know you luv to do!) but there's a lot of truth there.

I actually heard someone on the radio say "dude was SO white!" followed by confident laughter. He was confident that no one would call him on the racist insult. And how, in the good ol' U S of A did it get to the point when the middle class white male is the punchline?

Political correctness has been taken beyond the extreme until the ONLY class/gender/race that has no right to this "correctness" is that same middle class white guy.

But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Illegal immigration is just like marijuana...

Legalize it, regulate it, tax it.

We've got to change the rules so that there is a system in place to identify those crossing our borders. Make it so easy to come across the border for a short period (90 days?) and them return again after another short period back home in Mexico that no one would risk crossing the desert to get here.

I am an american but am neither good nor christian. That said, not everyone here agrees with the current idea that the suspension of the Bill of Rights and the concept of Universal Human Rights is a good thing.

I don't support the detention of people based on religion/ethnicity. No, I haven't attacked my government to stop it either. But sometimes I want to...

Give us a break, neighbor. Most of us just want those people from the South to play by the rules.
