Women's opinion about engineers
Posted:
3/29/2009 1:32:27 AM
I don't know much about it myself, but one of my favorite people just got his degree in EE. And I've met a few other people who do that type of work. I wouldn't say there's any particular stereotypes I associate with that career.
I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you worried about how women see engineers, or are you just tired of having to explain what you do for a living?

Don't fret over it kiddo, it's just a game. Everyone gets some low ratings, though I think anyone out there rating people 1 is being rather harsh. *grumble*you know who you are 33-40 woman*grumble*
And hey, you're doing well with the 41 and over crowd.

What's the method to the madness?
Posted:
3/26/2009 11:07:05 PM
Yes, this is an unanswered question. No one has ever pointed out that the site auto-deletes mail after 30 days so we needn't bother deleting them ourselves.
Or that even the ladies who prefer to delete after reading might save a message now and then so they can say to a friend, "oh my god, you'll never believe what this weird guy wrote to me!"
It couldn't possibly be that simple, could it?

What kinds of games do you play?
Posted:
3/26/2009 3:45:54 PM
I play all kinds of games, but since you mentioned pogo I'll stick to the online casual type games. I like word games like Text Twist and crosswords, and all kinds of solitaire. I'm a fiend for point and click adventures and escape the room games. I also play a lot of time management games like Diner Dash, Cake Mania, etc.
And Kingdom of Loathing is the best free browser-based game you will ever play.

Your ex was a****to threaten to post your sexy pics online, but really that has nothing to do with putting a normal pic on your profile. Like Cornelius said, no one is going to bother to photoshop your face on a porn star. Not even your ex.

How important is his taste in music?
Posted:

I think it's a huge bonus if you like the same things, but it's not mandatory. However, I think there needs to be at least some overlap in tastes. I don't know if I could be with someone who hated absolutely everything I liked and vice-versa.

You guys are forgetting that he's 20 years old, and he's probably looking for girls of a similar age. Video games don't have the same stigma for them that it does for some older women.
Honestly, every guy in this thread who said "women don't like video games/computers/adult swim!!!!!" gets a big virtual smack from me.
Mandonine don't worry, you've listed a wide range of interests on your profile. I really don't think that seeing the words "video games" is going to send all the girls running away in horror.

First time dating, what to do?
Posted:

What? She hasn't used you at all. You went on one date. An online flirtation is not the same as being in a relationship. You said yourself she hasn't lied or cheated.
I'm pretty disgusted by your "maybe I'll just use her" attitude.

I don't watch The Bachelor, so I have no idea what he looks like, but from what I've heard a lot of women hate him. So it may just be his personality that makes the ladies less forgiving of his physical flaws.

You could just leave it on any pop station and I'd be miserable
A few in particular:
Taylor Swift (I only know who this is because my sister listens to her constantly)
Anyone who has a show on the Disney Channel
Anyone who's been on American Idol
John Mayer
Avril Lavigne
Creed
Nickleback
I have a feeling any modern country station would rub me the wrong way too, but I'm not familiar enough with country singers to list any specifically.

Intentional Relationships
Posted:
2/18/2009 4:16:28 AM
I think you're putting the cart way before the horse here.
It's obvious you're looking for a life partner, but I think you need to slow down and let things develop naturally. You want him to be exclusive and marriage-minded after only a couple weeks?
Fun relationships can lead to marriage too, you know. You don't have to have the wedding all planned out from the beginning.
To answer your question, no I don't know any surefire signals that mean he's ready get hitched. Those are the kind of things that show up over time, after you've dated a while.

As a Libra, I feel fully qualified to tell you that it will not work out. I can tell because we Libras are all the same.
Unless you find a lucky penny on your way to the date, then of course you two will live happily ever after. But that practically goes without saying.

I've always thought it was strange that there isn't an option to say you're looking for both men and women. Especially since it gives you the choices of looking for friends or activity partners, whatever that is.

Maybe she meant it in a flirty way? The way she writes makes me think English might not be her first language, maybe it's a translation thing.
In any case, I wouldn't write her off because of one line in an email. I'd tell her you are free Thursday and suggest coffee and ice cream again.

Ladies how do you like a man to first message
Posted:
10/13/2008 3:27:22 AM
Unfortunately, after a while I think the messages most women get all start to sound the same.
"Hi, I liked your profile. You seem really interesting. I see you like ____, so do I. Do you like _____ too?"
While that's a perfectly polite message, it's not very interesting if you get it over and over again. If you want replies you have to figure some way for your message to stand out. I realize that's tough since profiles only give you so much to go on, but you have to be creative.

Initial Contact: IM vs. email
Posted:
10/6/2008 11:44:19 PM
I've never been IM'd and thought, "ooh, that guy's so confident."
I usually think, "Is this guy going to be weird? I hope he's not naked."
Also, I'm not sure this site's IM system has this feature since I've had it turned off for so long, but NEVER EVER EVER turn your mic on without someone's permission.
It was really late one night and I had stepped away from my computer when I started hearing this weird trance music coming from my speakers, sounds of someone shuffling around, and saying, "hello" once in a while. It was coming from an IM from a total stranger. I thought it was amazingly rude.

And Zombie: can you tell me why it is that if an average looking man asks about 10 different women out on a date maybe about only 2 of them would say yes? Why doesn't the average guy get more of a chance if woman are only looking for average guys that appeals to them?
There's so much more to being appealing than just being average looking. The majority of people are average looking. There is personality, interests, lifestyle to consider.
And our hypothetical man has two dates lined up. Sounds good to me. Why isn't he focused on them instead of the eight that said no?

lol, reminds me of a profile I came across a few weeks ago. It had the same two women in every photo. And nothing in the profile to indicate which was her. I wondered how a guy messaging would handle that. And why on earth doesn't she have a single pic of just her by herself? Maybe they're conjoined twins.
Personally, I'm way too vain to have pics of any other chicks in my profile. I'd never risk the "who's your friend?" scenario.
Sometimes I see a profile with 5 pics of a mildly attractive woman, and one pic of that woman with a hot friend. And that's the pic she chooses as her main one. In those cases I think she's using the hottie as bait to lure men to her profile.

Well this is definitely not the same old topic ;)
If it's more than just a fantasy and something you really want to happen, I think you should mention it pretty early on. Since she's the one expected to perform while you sit back and watch. Not something you can just spring on a lady after you're in a committed relationship, I think.

I think the profile is funny. Anyone who takes it seriously probably wouldn't be that compatible with him anyway. Matching humor is important.
OP the best way to go about this site is to not having any expectations. Just have fun with it. And I sincerely believe that the best way to get people interested in you here is to post frequently in the forums. Posting shows off your personality far better than your profile can.
^^^^JavaQueen has a good point too. If you're getting frustrated and it's starting to seem more like a job, than fun, maybe a break is a good idea.
