I'm really interested in seeing how this plays out. Its a smart move to keep them seperate though this way they can cover more of the markets interests

UFC and Mix Martial Arts
Posted:

My whole life I have been more interested in individual sports from martail arts to skateboarding/snowboarding. I have no idea why but I was never a fan of watching or playing any of the traditional sports in our society

Chinese Wushu/Kung Fu (fighting)

why are some people so one sided? Yes the ground game is important so is the stand up.
If you remember when the first ufc came out it was individuals bringing there own style to the ring. We had sumo, kickboxers, kung fu, jujitsu, boxers, Any style you could think of. It was like they were fighting the age old debate of whos style is better.
This is the wrong way to look at it. Every single martial arts has possitive and negative aspects of it.
This is why the ufc is what it is today.. you will never see someone that souly trains in one dicipline anymore all train in a round verity of styles thats why is called MMA (mixed martial arts)

Bruce Lee hero or just pioneer of martial arts movies?
Posted:

Well I don't really like using the slogan HERO! In my eyes a hero is someone that saves lives. Bruce lee in this regards I wouldn't call him a hero. I would however call him a pioneer. He did many great things to bring martial arts to western society and took alot of chances in doing so. He developed his own style of martial arts based on the flaws he seen in his own trainning. He was an invisionary and a great man that has influenced my life at a young age. Our understanding of martial arts and eastern culture would have been hindered greatly if it wasn't for him. He did break down many walls between our very different buy beautiful societies.

UFC can not compare itself to boxing.

I assume you box or you might not be as one sided. I love all aspects of martail arts. From MMA to traditional katas ect. Im sure if you asked the majority of professionals no matter what they do, they still appreciate other aspects of martial arts. Boxing just like karate, kung fu, MMA (mixed martial arts) or any other disciplin is still a form of martial arts. Enjoy it.
Your really debating the same issue that many have since the creatation of the fighting arts... Who's is better? My question is this! Can there really be a best? Its a form of art and expression, Its a form of showing the potential the human body can go to.
Whats better masterpeice the mona lisa or the sculpture of michel? They can't be compaired!

Martial arts does amazing things for a person... Its one activitie that focuses on every aspect of a human and it works to improve a persons body, mind and spirit. I have been in alot of different forms and in general beyond person preference they all benifit someone in all 3 areas. Martial Arts is more then a sport and more then a hobbie its a way of being. you can use it everyday of your life. Do it for you not for anyone else.

Pride Vs UFC?
Posted:
4/2/2006 3:04:21 AM
forgot to add!!! I think pride has some great entertainment value to it, dont get me wrongs and actually i remember watching the very first match of the very first ufc and it was amazing! These days, Its a much safer sport. They remove things that could prove a benifit for one style of fighter from another. I go ufc

Pride Vs UFC?

Hey i just thought i would take this opertunity to bring up the 2 different directions that martial arts is headed down these days. There is the directon that your all talkin about around the practical aspect, and its a great aspect of the evolution of martial art. I just wanted to also mention the only other direction its going in my opinion right now. some poeple out their practice the more flashy aspect of it like Jet li and Jackie Chan, just more refind. I just wanted to intoduce this side of the sport that is lesser known. check out the website its with all the (top levels of this sport doing there thing) www.bilang.com there is probably about 20 ppl that like to do this kind of thing in any somewhat large city. I think its great
