Deleted Posts - Why ?
Posted:

but if I dont know what I am doing wrong, then how can I improve?
Before you post, ask yourself
am I on topic
am I going to throw the topic off it's rails
am adding to the topic's relevancy
If you answered NO to any of those questions, it's removed.
Then ask yourself
am i posting to get a rise from the community
am i posting to bait someone
am i directly insulting someone
am I speaking to a poster, or to the subject matter
If you answered YES to any of the above, then it's removed and chances are so will you, to the sidelines.
In my opinion, they were inoffensive, relevant to the topic concerned, and amusing
Your opinion as oposed to what is in actuality.
The above of course, are given a valid thread to begin with.
as opposed to being divisive, malicious, offensive etc like a lot of others I have seen
If you see them, report them.

Take any forum nonsense to the

Do as the first post indicates when making a report.
If you want to report in private - email this account.
Creating "Drama" threads will only see a further deterioration of the forums, potentially your posting rights and the rights of any participants.

For the veteran Hijackers - keep your opinions about the posters to yourselves and discuss the subject matter and not the nitpicking definition of words and where the source of that definition applies to - or haven't the following sank in yet?
Replying To A Thread Subject or Post
Please ensure that all your replies are to the topic and nothing else. If your reply isn't related to the actual topic, then it's considered
off topic
or simply

, and will be removed. Replying to another

original post
is obviously permitted as long as what you are replying to, is also to the

. As soon as you start replying to
off topic
comments, the
thread
is in jeopardy of being
hijacked
or derailed - leave
off topic
replies alone or the
thread
, if unsalvageable, will be deleted.
Remember that as soon as you utter any personalized characterizations about a poster, addressing them by name, making a direct character judgement, or an indirect generalized character judgement that is meant to include them for the purpose of belittling or insulting them, you have just turned your reply to a personal one and is subject to deletion and your posting rights suspended or removed permanently depending on severity. What Happened To Freedom Of Speech?

Freedom of Speech On This Site
Although everyone is urged to express their opinions in the forums, there are rules of decorum and civil behaviour to adhere to when participating in a moderated discussion forum. When you signed up for this service, you agreed to a set of rules outlined in the
Terms of Service/User Agreement
thereby allowing you to proceed in the registration process, hence it’s assumed you read them.
Take note that nowhere is it stated, nor implied that total freedom of speech exists here, nor is this site considered a constitutional democracy. This site is a privately owned Canadian website for which you have been extended the courtesy to use providing you abide by the agreed upon rules of the website, i.e. the owner’s rules. Much like you have rules for your home when you are entertaining guests, they either abide by them or you ask them to leave - it's no different here.
The site administration reserves the right to remove any threads or postings that are not conducive to civil behaviour/discussion or only serve as to incite forum disruption by knowingly uttering aggressive and unwarranted remarks.
Do take note of the posted rules and please adhere to them - failure to do so, may result in your forum posting rights suspended or your account deleted if non compliance persists. Although the site doesn’t like to resort to these measures, it will if the problem persist. The site does it its utmost to ensure, to the best of its ability, the enjoyment of the forums for the greater population of users.

Selling yourself by video?
Posted:
10/12/2009 5:11:03 AM
It has been suggested on another thread, that I should make a little video of myself, post it on you tube and provide a link from my profile.
Doing this could cause your profile information to be removed or your whole profile deleted as links such as these are not allowed on profiles. You could, of course, provide the link by mail.

Your question was answered in msg 2 & 3. I didn't feel the need to post the exact same answer again which is basicaly what I would be doing.
You have no sanctions from this site preventing you from posting threads or replies currently.
You are probably posting in one of the "Ask A" sections which are capped at 20 replies.
So now you have a mod that has repeated what others already told you clearly.

Threads/Posts are deleted for various reasons, notice for reasons of deletion depend on whether it is time permiting (not often and only for newbies, regulars should know better).
Please use "key words" in Search thread title in the upper right corner of the forum page to see if a thread topic already exists. Redundant threads will be deleted..
The POF forums are listed by SPECIFIC subjects. Please post accordingly
If you post a thread subject that doesn't fit the forum subject criteria it will be deleted, or moved to an appropriate forum.
Thread Subject title should relate to the topic of discussion in the post, this will help facillitate future topic searches.
New threads must have a valid topic, and can't just be created to "chat".
*Chat will be deleted from forums.*

Events In The UK - Next Two Weeks & FAQ
Posted:

HOST FAQ
See also:
FAQ - Planning on Hosting a Event? Things you need to Know
Who can be a host?
Anyone, there are no designated hosts or "teams" or committees for the UK, or any of its regions/cities/communities.
Is hosting hardwork?
It should not be unless you choose to make it hard work
Should I ask if anyone is interested in a meet on the UK Forums?
You can , but only <5% of users use the forums, so do not worry if there is lack of response it is not indicative of interest.
Do I have to use labels at a meet?
No, but it may help in identification of Fish Members & their guests. Guests can print out their own here, you do not need to supply them
(drag to folder/desktop - print)
Does the meet venue have to be exclusive?
No, and it is good advertising for the site for it to be mixing with members of the public as it encourages new members to join
What is the minimum number of people that must attend a POF Meet?
Just 1, although 2 would be better so you have someone to talk to Events that have minimums are in fact - against the party rules
If I own/work at or have connections to a venue can I host a POF Meet there?
No, you cannot and No, you cannot get a friend to host it either
Can a venue charge for a POF Meet?
Only if they usually charge the general public as a rule
The mass mail how many do I get of these?
One! No Exceptions, and do not forget to make sure the longtitude/latitude is set (does not say zero) before you send it. Enter the venue postcode in the box at the bottom of the event post (Marked zipcode) with no spaces and press the update party date and zipcode button. Please note the original poster of the Event Thread must perform this action, co-hosts do not have this ability
I can only use the mass mail as a reminder to those signed up?
You can use the mass mail when you like, but Bigfish will send a reminder mail to the people that are signed up to the meet automatically
Who should take photos?
Anyone with a camera at the meet
What happens if I find I cannot host after all?
Either cancel the meet or get your co-host (that is what they are there for) to take over
Should the Host be on the door to greet everyone or sign them in?
No, they are just a guest at the event like everyone else, there to socialise and meet people, there is no need to sign people in.
Do I need to find a team of hosts?
No this is totally uneccessary, all attendees should be friendly and greet each other ideally. You and one co-host in case of emergency and you not being able to attend is all that is needed. If you have people helping oyu on the night because
you
choose to hand out labels or greet etc, that is fine but they are not a co-host. The co-host is for one reason only to take over in case you cannot attend and they are then responsible for the event.
Should I choose a Pub or Nightclub venue?
If you want to host in a pub or nightclub yes, but you can host almost anywhere doing almost anything.
What should I expect to pay out to Host a meet?
Nothing, Zero, Zilch, Zip!
Event Thread FAQ
Can I use HTML coding on my meet thread?
Yes, but stick to:
HTML font tags for
- size
- colour
- scrolling
- center
HTML hot-link tags for maps, transportation links, practical links for the event.
HTML Image tags for host pics can be linked to their POF profile pics, direct links to pics on private webspace* (do not link to your webpages, only to the image file directly and ONLY if relevant to the Event)
No outside linked emoticons, gifs, etc.
This keeps the playing field level, keeps the spam down, and the event pages from taking to long to load - the idea is to allow some tags to dress up an event post, NOT to go overboard with spam gifs, or animations that hijack the site coding, or fonts that make the post impossible to read.
Simplicity and fast page loading is one of the things that made POF popular, eye noise on a web page doesn't facilitate marketing, ie: trying to promote a POF event.
Use common sense, keep it attractive, eye-catching, but simple.
- Limiting the allowed tags keeps the learning curve at a shallow slope
- Another person may have to take over the event thread
- Not all mods are UBB/HTML experts
- Continuity and consistency
See here for a basic tutorial
Event Thread HTML Codes
Why are posts being deleted from my thread?
Sometimes the posts are off-topic chat, but more likely due to excessive emoticons:
-
To avoid this, paste this into your OP -
Note - When Posting on ANY thread
Forum Rules - Specific
F) No irritating posting Styles, including use of all Caps and excessive
Punctuation/Blank Lines/
Smilies.
This isn't a "new" rule it's a site wide posting rule, it has always been in place. = site wide.
What do I do after the meet?
Create a Comments & Pictures thread, there is a link on your event thread, click the coloured words "Upload Images" to create it. It is a good idea to post the thread URL onto the event thread and ask people to make comments there rather than the meet thread after the event has happened.
How do the green links work?
Once your meet is scheduled and approved it will appear in the green links in date order, if two meets are on the same date then the first one posted takes precedence.
What pictures can I upload?
Pictures of the event itself, and do not upload pictures of members that you know are forum barred. If you do upload unwittingly you will be advised by a moderator and the images will be removed. Do not upload lewd or racy images either.

Events In The UK - Next Two Weeks & FAQ
Posted:
9/26/2009 4:31:05 AM
Im thinking of hosting hope this is the right place to ask , anyways the thing that worries me is getting 20 before i can mass mail ,
This is only applies to your first event. The Mass Mail is also a simple thing to send and once you have an approved event in the Event Forum it is a good idea to take a look through the FAQ in the
Event Host Forum
as you will then have access to that forum.
This thread deals with the How To
FAQ - How To Mass Mail
Not so long ago there was a sense of community within the Event Hosts and you would often see other hosts signing up to a "New" hosts event and encouraging them with their event. This practice is almost non existant now. However, there is nothing to stop you mailing all those on your favourites lists and asking friends and other hosts to sign up to get you to the magic 20.
ive heard its a good idea to get another host to mass mail for you, is this okay and the best way to do it ?
This is not against the rules, however, it is a very bad way to do it in some cases, if you are asking someone who hosts in the exact same area as you and also the same type of events then it could be considered a reasonable action.
You have to remember that the Mass Mail is sent to those that are on the sending Hosts mailing list, if they do not live near you then all of their attendees will receive a mail about another event far from where they live which can cause annoyance and irritation.
If the same host is constantly mailing out for other people then it could be considered spam as it is considered as taken that if you sign up to a specific event by a specific host you will receive mail (unless you have turned the filter on) from that specific host about their specific events.
Constantly receiving mail from that host for events that are not theirs could cause that host to be removed and barred for spamming members.
There is a failure to understand the mass mail and how "your attendee list grows" ONLY the HOST that posted the event gains those sign ups to their mass mail list, if another host mails out for you they do not gain your sign up list, if you are a co-host on any events you do not gain that sign up list.
There are further issues with allowing someone else to mass mail for you, most members will mail back with queries to the person that sent the mail and not the host of the event. That person then has to have enough time invested in your event to ensure they reply to all those mails. You also have to remember that you are trusting them to the success of your event in many ways. There are various easy ways to put someone off attending an event without actually saying "don't go"
Much as it may be considered worrying to reach the 20 sign ups for your first event with a few mails and a little help from your friends this can easily be achieved, thereby ensuring not only is your event run in a way that suits you but also that you can ensure the correct information is given to people and that they are not ignored as you have a vested interest in your event being a success.
As an aside it would also be prudent that for those new Hosts that have stupidly given another person their password to their account in order to send mass mails for them on their account or for whatever reason, that they change their password straight after this has been done.
No one should have the password to your POF account.
If you are hosting and you allow others to use your account this is the quickest way to removal of your event and possibly your account too.

For the veteran Hijackers - keep your opinions about the posters to yourselves and discuss the subject matter - or haven't the following sank in yet?
Replying To A Thread Subject or Post
Please ensure that all your replies are to the topic and nothing else. If your reply isn't related to the actual topic, then it's considered
off topic
or simply
chatting
, and will be removed. Replying to another
post
other than the
original post
is obviously permitted as long as what you are replying to, is also to the
topic
The full list of infractions can be found in the
Acceptable Use & Posting Rules

I understand that the rules say do not use the forums as a chat room.
Then we need not go any further than the posted rules to which you know the premier rule that the forums are not CHAT rooms - those can be found anywhere else on the net by using google and chat room as the search criteria. Spamming in the open forums however, is of course expressly forbidden.
Simply because some posts have not been updated does not absolve anyone of making up their own rules, or non adherence to the rules.
The rule came into being because people do not know how to take an inch, but more so a mile. Given the number of extremely limited resources, we cannot undertake monitoring over 90 chat threads - they turn ugly and all hell breaks loose. The forums have been there in the past and they're not going to be revisted. The forums were never intended as replacements for any chat facility.

QUESTIONS / CONCERNS or COMPLAINTS
If you have valid concerns that you wish to make known with respect to a problem with a particular user or Moderation of the forums, please read the
Reporting Methods
thread first. If the thread doesn't answer your question, then the last and
ONLY
appropriate venue to do so, is either in private email with
The Global Forum Moderator
.
If the concern is of a general nature that pertains to site functionality, then turn to the
Plentyoffish Site/Suggestions/Help Forum
, read the
Frequently Asked Questions
thread first, as it no doubt has been already asked and answered for you. If you do not see a thread that answers your question, then please post a thread with a clear subject line, in a civil manner, to the Help Forum, asking your question.
Do Not Post any complaint threads of any nature in your Local or Global Forums as it will be deleted
Any form of Forum or Profile initiated, or participated in protest, that serves to only berate Administration or Moderation of the site and its policies, or incite other members to do the same, will see your posting rights revoked immediately, no questions asked, hence why the above avenues for complaints are in place, along with making them publicly known through the posted rules.

event threads voted off?
Posted:
9/16/2009 4:48:35 AM
It seems that every time someone puts up a new event thread in California, before the moderator has a chance to approve it, some people just vote it down. And it's not because it's not set up correctly.
Either;
mail any moderator and let them know an event thread is being voted off, they can stop this and also take action against those abusing their vote
or
Report it in the
Report Violations Thread
and state that an Event thread is being incorrectly voted off.
Meanwhile there are event threads posted in this forum...
Report them in the
Report Violations Thread
stating that an event has been posted in the Event Host Forum and needs moving as it is off topic.
This means that the thread can be moved to the persons local forum and also they can be mailed to tell them where to find what they need to know about hosting events etc.

You know, you really should at least answer the question. I had a question that I was wanting an answer for, and instead you just delete the thread.
Covered in the rules – read them.
that's pretty inconsiderate.
So is wasting our time with a protest thread.
I just wanted to know if there was any way to get posting privelidges reinstated for the forum and you go and delete it without answering.
That’s because it’s already spelled out in the rules.
the least you could have done is respond.. then I would have had my answer!
That's why the rules are written – self service.
can you not do that at least? is there that big of a problem answering a simple question?
Here’s your answer – in the rules:
