Dad or Jail?

This is insane. 14 years old is plenty old enough to be able to decide if he wants to visit his father or not. The judge overstepped his bounds in ordering him to go to his father's, IMO. You cannot force a relationship and trying to do so could very well cause further harm to it (the relationship).

Uh Dogs aren't Cats
Posted:
10/1/2009 7:32:35 PM
Most municipalities have a bylaw prohibiting the riding of bicycles on sidewalks. I'm pretty sure Kingston, where the OP lives, does. Therefore, her dog had more of a right to be on that sidewalk than the kid riding the bike (while riding the bike).
I wonder if those so riled up over a dog peeing on their lawn realize that many other animals also do it? ie. squirrels, raccoons, cats, birds etc.
At least the OP picks up after her dog when he has a dump - too many dog owners don't.

teenage condom buying
Posted:
8/8/2009 7:10:45 PM
If the store's policy is to sell condoms to teens, then the clerk should not have refused. If he can't do his job without his personal opinions and viewpoints interfering with it, he should not be in that job. Would it be okay for a Muslim or Jewish store clerk to refuse to sell pork to customers?
OP, I'd have still gone to the store management, even though you didn't want him to get in trouble. Chances are, he'll refuse to sell condoms to some other teen and they will go to the owner. I doubt he'd be fired unless he continued to refuse to sell condoms to teens, but a warning might convince him to do his job.

APA Says If You're Gay You're Gay To Stay
Posted:
8/6/2009 6:53:04 PM
I know this is a big issue in the US but in Canada homosexuals are already allowed to have civil unions and are afforded the same rights as married couples as far as I know
Homosexuals don't have "civil unions" here in Canada, they have marriage, the same as heterosexuals.
The gays can make up their own word just as they appropriated the word gay...it used to mean happy.
It *still* means "happy". Many words in the English language have more than one meaning.
It would be nice if this statement from the APA put to rest the issue of reparative therapy, but of course it won't. The anti-gay faction lives in denial, of course they won't believe it.

smokers and non smokers can they get on
Posted:
7/31/2009 12:49:51 AM
Why are people labelled as whiny, pouty and judgemental because they choose to not date smokers? Would the same people making that accusation label people as such for choosing to not date a pet owner? A fat person? Someone with kids? Someone who has health issues? Someone who isn't working? Someone from another religion? Good grief, not everyone wants to date someone with your habit. Get over yourselves.
There are many reasons why I'm not interested in dating a smoker (I do not have the restriction on my email because 1. I'm not really looking for someone to date and 2. I want people to be able to message me about forums etc):
-I'm an ex smoker - 10 years this fall - and do not want to be tempted to start again
- I'm diabetic, which is why I quit in the first place - 95% of limb amputations on diabetics are on smokers, smoking impairs circulation, so does diabetes, both together are double whammys.
- I have allergy induced asthma
- being around smoke makes my eyes water and sting and my throat hurt
- I do not want the smell in my home and even if the person smokes outside, it sticks in their hair and clothes, plus there is what they call "third hand smoke", which is also a health hazard
- I do not want to kiss an ashtray
I'm not fanatical about it, I have friends who smoke and I never complain about them smoking when I'm in their car or home. They don't smoke in my home; while I've never forbidden it I appreciate the courtesy. However, I do not want to be around it 24/7 or to the extent I would be when seeing a dating partner. That is my choice - I'm not "whining" about it, I'm just making a statement about my choices. I know not everyone is interested in me - a fat chick with a dog who has numerous health and chronic pain issues - and I am not offended by that. Everyone is entitled to their preferences and deal breakers.

Honor Killings ..Again..
Posted:
7/31/2009 12:32:09 AM
We so need to bring back capital punishment here in Canada. This crime disgusts me. Not that other crimes don't, but to kill someone because they do something you disagree with is just despicable. I live near Kingston (and have been to the site where this happened many times) and we've had a lot of coverage on this in our local paper. Apparently, the son has been beaten up in the detention centre and all three accused are in protective custody. There's been accusations that the oldest daughter was killed because she was dating someone the parents disapproved of. The woman, the man's first wife, had been threatened by him in the past and the other two girls were killed because they were raised by her. It just makes my blood boil. Since we don't have the death penalty, I hope we deport these scum as soon as possible if and when there is a guilty verdict. I really feel for the surviving children.

Ladies would you date a Vegan, Vegetarian?
Posted:
7/31/2009 12:21:45 AM
So what do you guys think? Is the "keep vegan in the home and I will never judge what you eat outside the house" a reasonable compromise??
No. Why should the meat eater have to give up his/her foods just because you don't eat them??? How about you each eat what you want without ridiculing or judging or trying to change the other?
Your attitude is one reason why I'm not really interested in vegans/vegetarians. You want it YOUR way, when it is YOU who is the "abnormal" one. Humans are, by nature, omnivorous, which means we eat both meat and plant life. If you want to veer from that, by all means do so, but don't expect people to cowtow to your preferences to the point of not eating meat in their own home.
To the person who mentioned weight, there are lots of fat vegetarians. There are also lots of compassionate meat eaters.

child before marriage is wrong but not sex before marriage...why?
Posted:
7/25/2009 10:15:17 PM
With trump card in women's hand, who can control this messy situation? Men with their brain programmed to think of sex 24x7 cannot be expected to contribute much to the improvement. If today's women who have much more control over their life(and sex) and are the receiving end of all the problems associated, cannot do anything then how can we expect better relationships and a better society?
I am so fricking sick and tired of hearing men blame women for their sleezing around. Guys are just as capable of keeping their pants zipped up as women are. To blame women for your sexual escapades is a cop-out and an abdication of responsibility. Ironically, many of the same men scream about responsibility when the topic is abortion.
Sex leads to child... simple.
No, sex does not always lead to a child. If it did, you'd have a point, OP. However, very, very few sexual encounters result in pregnancy. There are many ways to prevent pregnancy, granted not all methods of contraception can be used by all women, but most women can use at least one.

Abortion Doctor Finially Killed...
Posted:
7/15/2009 8:58:30 PM
You don't have to bring an undeveloped child into your sex life.
I don't bring any child into my sex life, developed or not.
If you'd rather run the risks of using a lesser protective method (ie. Condoms, 87-98% success rate)
Not everyone can use hormonal birth control - I cannot. I've tried the IUD and it was pure hell. And it's darn near next to impossible to get sterilized when you do not have any children, even though you know you do not want them. I was refused because "you might change your mind".
I, for one, believe that the child's life should be protected from being adversely affected by saline or toxic drugs.
Saline abortions are a very small percentage of abortions and I believe are used well before the fetus can feel any pain. Drugs aka medical abortion are used early in the first trimester, once again well before pain is able to be felt by the fetus.
Supposing that I am wrong on this one, and fetuses are equivalent to nothing more than a cancer, I still prefer to err on the side of not taking a human life, developed or otherwise.
Very easy to say when you will never, ever know the terror of an unwelcome pregnancy, isn't it?

Can you imagine that?
By law, the plates have to be clear of mud, snow etc so as to be easily readable. I don't know how dirty it was, if it was dirty enough to make it hard to read, I can see it. Or perhaps he wanted to make sure you cleaned it before it got so dirty it couldn't be read. At least he only gave you a warning, and didn't ticket you.

Child molesters should be executed in a timely manner. There's no hope for rehabilitation, and has been mentioned, imprisoning them for life would overcrowd the prison system. Besides, they don't deserve to live.
(and no, I'm not talking about 18 year olds who had consentual sex with their 17 year old girlfriends, it's insane that that is even a criminal offense)

Reagans Death Cost US hundreds of millions
Posted:

Much as I disliked Reagan's politics, I still think a deceased president warrants a public funeral and someone who jumped around on a stage and molested little children doesn't. The Jackson family or estate should be billed for the cost to the taxpayer.
Regarding the molestation accusations, one does NOT settle a lawsuit for such and thus be known as pretty well the most despicable thing there is unless they really are guilty.

I don't like chuckwagon races, there are too many injuries and deaths. The Calgary Stampede seems to have a lot of them. I wonder if racing them so hard in the heat of summer contributes to the heart attacks?
Message 2, regarding dog collars, I seldom collar my dog, for that exact reason. I never, ever leave her alone with a collar on and she has a harness for walks. I pretty well only collar her if I'm expecting someone and put it on so I can hold onto her at the door if I need to.

I agree that sexual harassment charges would be excessive. You could try talking to your supervisor, maybe if he/she talked to the hugger it would stop. If he felt his job might be in jeopardy, he might think before acting.

Whining to admin about it just makes you look childish and immature, IMO.

Dog Grooming - How to trim his nails
Posted:
6/28/2009 2:07:29 PM
I have a PediPaws, it's a waste of money.
OP, I'd take the dog to the vet to get the nails done, it's inexpensive and you don't have the hassle - the vet does! Your vet should know ways of restraining the dog and tips on how to get it used to the nail trimming.
My dog isn't crazy about it, her previous owner said he had to restrain her to do the nails, but I have not had to. She tolerates it, though it's evident she doesn't like it. She does know that she gets a treat at the end and if I don't give it to her right away she barks until she gets it.

If he was a genius, I'm Einstein.
I did not like his music, but to each his/her own. However, regardless of how good it allegedly was, that does not excuse child molestation. And, spare me the "he wasn't convicted" BS - OJ wasn't convicted either and he's been tarred and feathered ever since his trial.

what's so bad about spanking your kid?
Posted:

if spanking was effective, why didnt you stop mis behave after the first whipping?
The same could be said for any other form of punishment ie. time out - if it's so effective, why does the child misbehave again?
Do it right and you'll never have to administer more than a few during the course of the kid's childhood. The threat alone should suffice.
Really? Then I wonder why I had so many spankings? (No, I was not abused) One thing spanking did do for me was teach me to cover my tracks next time so I wouldn't get caught doing that particular prohibited act.
If some people think they can raise their children without ever spanking them , well good for them but it worked just fine for thousands of years and we have no more or less violent criminals running around today than we ever did before.
I believe we have more violent criminals. I don't have a link offhand, but a few years ago I saw a source on a discussion group for a study on inmates in a particular prison. ALL of the inmates had been spanked as a child. There were NONE who had not been spanked.
I believe each family has to find what works for them. Some children do fine with non corporal discipline, others don't listen to anything else. I look after an ADHD child who I had to time out once - he's never misbehaved again for me in over two years. His mom tried spanking him when he was younger and she says it only made him angrier. What works for one does not necessarily work for the next.
I do believe spanking should be a last resort, not a first or even second.

Does anyone else find it strange that she travels with her daughter preaching the benefits of abstinence?
I think it's stupid. If she's going to use Bristol (good gawd, she's an imbecile at naming kids) to preach anything, it should be how abstinence only education does NOT work.

I would date an anti-abortion person as long as he understood that if our contraception failed and I got knocked up, I would not be carrying it to term. I do make this clear with potential partners before getting intimate.

Op, it's called Political Correctness. It's okay to specify no whites, but not okay to say no blacks, asians etc. Political correctness sucks.
It is NOT racist to not be attracted to a specific race. Once again, political correctness sucks. We cannot help what we are or are not atttracted to. Everyone has their preferences and a preference for race is no different than a preference for hair colour or body size/shape.

What do you mean by "neglect"? Is he not feeding the dog? If it's serious neglect, report him to the humane society. Yes, it would be a HUGE red flag for me.
