Why Do Guys Quit Dancing after 40?
Posted: 11/8/2009 2:06:32 PM
Poster # 55 is onto something. There was a group of single women who went out last night. Lots of men were invited by different folks in the group and only one man had the courage to venture out with us..lol. We all had a blast.Dancing, a few drinks..lots of laughter and good times were to be had.WE all danced like there was no one looking or judging us...just a bunch of friends enjoying one anothers company and a evening out ! When men sit at home and ponder ( whine ) about where all the good single ladies are they should try perhaps to venture further then there garden, garage, or hockey game to find us:) They might be surprized to find what fun dancing to " silly " or "retarded" songs really can be, and in the midst of enjoying themselves..who knows they might just meet that " good one " they were looking for :)

Country Music ..thumbs up or thumbs down ?
Posted: 9/23/2009 1:35:55 PM
I was scrolling back through the many pages of past POF events.Noticed that back when I first joined about 4-5 years ago ( with a couple years of not being here in between) alot of the events involved Country Music. For example...Gabbys..The old Mustangs ....are there people that still enjoy this type of event? Lately the events seem to be at the same places time and time again..with the same people attending / the same bands playing?? I wonder if its time to shake things up ..lol so to speak? What do others think?? Time for a Country Western Night or are people content with the usuall places ??

Senior refused buying/adopting kitten. your opinion
Posted: 9/13/2009 12:08:25 PM
Yep just like I figured ( but no offense taken :) ) the usual negative Neils putting in their views without probably ever volunteering, reading etc even for a moment to learn about how the SPCA acctually works!! Yes every situation is different but please until you have accutally spoken to a member of staff on the SPCA refrain from making blanket statements about them or how the organization works because of some experience you might have had or heard about.I find it sad this lady decided to go and adopt kittens from a local pet store.Pet stores are known to buy their dogs and cats from pet breeding mills.Take a moment to look up the condition of these puppy and kitten mills and you will think twice about adopting through a pet store again! I am not saying the SPCA or any organization is perfect....but nor should people who don't always know all the facts be painting them with the same brush used for a few rotten apples .Hmmm only half as long as my last post...maybe the seniors who have short attention spans will take a minute to read this one :)

Senior refused buying/adopting kitten. your opinion
Posted: 9/12/2009 12:34:03 PM
Should I or Shouldn't I reply to this post????I have been volunteering at the local SPCA for the last 6 months or so. They are overflowing with pets that are older ! Pople looking for " cute , cuddly , kittens) cats and dogs that need to be adopted. The senior lady who was looking to adopt kittens has every right to do so but she does need to realize the work and time committment that goes into a teeny kitten. When you adopt a baby dog or kitten you have no idea of their personalites...how quickly or if they will ever become housebroken..what if any health concerns they may have down the line etc. When the SPCA accepts a pet to be placed for adoption the person who is releasing the animal MUST fill in a four page history ,health, temperment record for their animal .Yes I realize that these documents could be false !They are also required to pay a fee for bringing their animal to the SPCA .That does help weed out people that are just "dumping" unwanted, unhealthy, or unstable animals to be adopted by others. In response to those that think the SPCA kills animals because of lack of space etc...your wrong! The only time a animal is "put down" is if they are deemed unadoptable by a board of people made up of Vets, animal behavior experts and SPCA members. Unadoptable may mean showing signs of or known aggressive behavior towards humans and or other animals. If a animal is sick the SPCA from their own funds try their best to bring the animal back up to %100 healthy...of course sometimes the cost of this is beyond what they have available and in those cases the animal will be put down.No people who are adopting a animal will want to adopt one that will result in HUGE vet costs, let alone the work and time that goes into rehablititaing a sick animal. There is an adoption process each potential new animal owner is expected to take part in before they will be able to adopt a animal. This includes an adoption application....it may mean a home visit by one of the SPCA paid employees and a adoption fee.The fee is not cheap but it includes...one free vet exmination ( of the new owners choosing ) spayed or neutering ,it also includes the animals first set of shots, a de fleaing and de worming treatment as well as a bag of brand new food ( aprox $25 ).I am not saying that the cute little puppies and kittens are not adorable etc. but in reality :( people do not surrendor puppies and kittens UNTIL they become to large...have health issues , behavior issues that they are no longer willing to work on :( So off to the SPCA they take them! The SPCA ( and other similar organizations) do a wonderful job of placing animals in the best homes possible that will provide them not only with love, food etc..but with a home that will love them for forever. Not just until they are no longer cute :( Please excuse spelling, grammer and puncuation mistakes I have made.....but they do not take away from the very serious nature of my post.I know there are and will be many different veiws on what I have said here...but as the old saying goes...This is my two cents worth and because of being there working not only with the animals but the awsome SPCA workers and other volunteers I feel perhaps I should say my 4 cents worth in regards to this topic..lol

BIKE RIDE AND PUB LUNCH, Port Coquitlam, Saturday Sept 19, 9:30 a.m.
Posted: 9/12/2009 12:04:01 PM
Heres another couple of wacky ways to get your bike there without a bike rack?? How about someone who is going who drives a truck could arrange to take some extra bikes along?? Orrrrrr if your only use one space in a bike rack that carries one or more bikes...you use the extra spaces for those that need bike transportation?? We all know how friendly, giving....and open POF memebers are to one another...perhaps they could be this way to one anothers bikes too :)

Counterpart or fantasy partner?
Posted: 8/6/2009 10:55:07 AM
I think there is a big difference between reality and fantasy.Seems like both sexs sometimes have trouble remembering this..lol. No one should have to settle or be with someone they are not happy with. But if your continually thinking there is someone better out there you may miss the perfect person that is there in front of you. There are very few people who look like or have the figures of the people on TV, movies etc. so if we all think we are going to be with a "barbie" or a "ken" alot of folks are going to remain single for a veryyyyyyyy long time. So yes definatly be choosey, picky or whatever you might call it but don't be unrealistic ! Just my humble opinon of course :)

I think if I have one more person walk into my office and say...wow its hot out there...I am going to combust. Sheesh , my office is not airconditioned...its a old building with no windows to open.I have one fan that blows the hot air from one side of the office to another..lol so YES ...I know its hot out there. They then say to me...oh wow your sooooooooooooo lucky to work in this nice cool office and my reply is , its not so coolllllllll after being here a few hours..lol. All in all though besides finding it hard to sleep at night I am not going to complain. After all summer is doing exactally what its suppose to do...be HOT. I can see it now, everyone starts complaining about the heat or needing some rain and wham, rain for the next 10 months sooooooo...bring on the SUN !!! :)

Should they bring back Spandex?
Posted: 7/24/2009 10:30:46 AM
DTC this may come as a surprise to you but here goes.............some of us women like men with a tummy :) The same as some men prefer women with curves over stick figures. Each to their own.One man that I find very sexy is Denis Franz ( I hope I spelt that right ) from NYPB. MMMMMM Now I realize not all in fact perhaps not many..lol other ladies would agree with me but thats ok...less ladies I have to compete with over him :) In fact I prefer to see a man with some meat on his bones with his shirt off wearing shorts at the beach then some man that is scrawny ....bones sticking out all over and his skin as white as a chickens thigh. Spandex has a time and a place and the people who know anything about fashion etc will be the ones who wear it in the most respectful tasteful ways. The others..........well lets just say....Spandex Biker shorts should never have been worn except by professionals..lol

Need to vent about a recent date..
Posted: 7/15/2009 3:00:09 PM
Hmm not sure what to think of this topic? I think I will go along with those who have said at least she told him. How many men /women have been seeing someone when out of the blue ...POOF..they disappear..the e mails stop...the phone calls stop...obviously the dates stop.No warning...nothing! I would rather a person me honest with me and say...its been nice getting to know you etc. but I am just not seeing this going anywhere, then to have them up and just disappear. Was it fair for him to drive all that way...him to buy the groceries..cook the dinner etc...then to find out? No probably not but unfortunatly seems these days things of the heart often are not always truthful :( Perhaps she wanted to see him for one last time...often people ( especially women ) want one last chance to see if the feelings for the man are different in person. Its not easy to tell someone your feelings have changed....either for men or women.

Promises! Defining who we are by keeping or breaking promises we make.
Posted: 6/15/2009 1:27:29 PM
Seems to me alot of us have unfortunatly been either put in the position or caused one of the biggest broken promises of them all ....The promises and vows we took at our wedding alter. Everyone has different situations as to why these vows/promises have been broken but ...still they were broken. So its hard to point fingers at others broken promises if we take a minute to look at our own...the big ones and little ones . My two cents worth .

Langley, Dance at Newlands Lounge . . . . June13
Posted: 6/12/2009 9:19:51 AM
I attended both the Valentines Dance at Newlands through POF and the last event there as well. Both times , we arrived between 7:00-7:30 PM and were hard pressed to find seats.I imagine this would be even harder if you came with a group of people :( So yes perhaps around 6-6:30 would be good, keep in mind the band does not start playing till 9. Newlands has a beautiful patio....a nice place to take a break after being up and on the dance floor. Another little hint to make things easier for you...when you are ordering wether it be at the table or at the bar...order two drinks at a time because it can be a longggggg time between getting another..lol.Enjoy to all those that are going...please be safe and arrange a safe ride home :)

I have no idea about the tattoo you are refering to ? I do know that music is appriecated, loved, and liked by different people in different ways. How so did you hear that the music was "awful" ? I was there and people of all ages seemed to be up dancing to it ? Granted if your looking for a certain type of music you might be disappointed but if your wanting dancing music for the average joe...they played it.Go and find out for yourself and then you can decide if you enjoyed it or not :)

100 Mile Diet/Lifestyle
Posted: 5/13/2009 9:47:37 AM
This was just done locally by a group of people living in Mission. There was a weekly TV show that followed there progress. Randy Hawes and his wife were two of the people that participated.I am sure if you google it you can see all that everyone went though while participating in it.It includes everything..not just fruits and veggies. If you wanted any bread products you had to find someone within the 100 miles that grew wheat..then you would have to have it milled etc.For those of you that love your coffee..that too was out.Salt....pectin ( for making james etc ) things you would never think of the folks had to either make their own or go without. Its alot harder then it sounds..check it out on line.I really enjoyed seeing their progress...struggles and sucsess's each week :)

So Sorry....it seems I have ruffled some feathers of fellow POF members :( My concern for the event is that that everyone has fun...has a place to sit and does not have to wait for long periods of times getting waited on. I have never meant to offend anyone especially the host as I know the time and effort that goes into planning an event.I am sure everyone that goes will have Fun fun fun .Host if I have offended you I stand corrected and wish to say...I hope your event goes off with no hitches and everyone attending meets his or hers partner of their dreams. For the ones that go just to meet new friends..I am sure with this warm ,friendly group of Adults...everyone...even those of us that put our foots in our mouths, will be welcomed with open friendly arms. Again sorry if anyone feels anything but positive about this event !

Has the OP washed his hands of this event ?? I have not seen him replying to questions that have been asked etc. There are new people who have signed up and are asking questions that he should be addressing. Again I sure hope HE has made Newlands aware of the numbers of people etc. It would be very sad if folks had a bad experience especially if it were there first POF event. I think the plan to arrive early to get a table will now mean showing up before it opens..lol. Enjoy and stay safe...please use DD's when needed. :)

Ok something does not add up....basically your saying the host has reserved the whole venue? I sure hope they have enough staff booked. Perhaps when events get this big ..the host should consider doing it both on the fri and saterday evening?? Just a idea. Lets not forget there will also be lots of regulars that go there every Saterday evening so just because he has spots reserved..the regulars will have to sit somewhere as well.

I sure hope the host has talked to Newlands and made them aware of the numbers. At the Valetines event there were not enough waitress's booked...the line up at the bar took over a half over to get a drink. The waitress at our table was run ragged and certainly not enjoying herself.I agree the trick is to get there early but then again ...I think everyone will be thinking the same thing...lol. Does anyone know what the seating limit is for Newlands? If there are 188 people signed up and only 80 seats reserved...there are going to be some disappointed people .At one time when someone hosted a event and there was a seating limit.Once the seating limit was reached there were no more people allowed to sign up, is this no longer the case? I was there for the Valentines Event...lots of POF people did not have places to sit . I wonder how many of the other tables in the establishment have been reserved for other events other then POF ? I enjoyed the time I went except that with such a large group I found it almost impossible for people to mingle etc. We shall see how my week plays out...one never knows ..lol. It must be about 5 years since the last time myself and some friends went to Woodies. There was usually a large group of us ....like over 20 that went together so we always had fun.I found the crowd to mostly be 35 and under ish? The dance floor is quiet small , the music loud. I am not sure if they still have it or not but they used to have a glassed in smoking section that was always very crowded.Take a walk on the wild side..go down..see what you think and if its not your cup of tea..there is always Boone County down the street that is lots of fun :) Enjoy and be safe whatever you choice of fun is tonight!

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has checked out "Cowboys" In Aldergrove ? It used to be Mustangs but was closed and re-opened now as Cowboys. It had a great dance floor before, pool table etc. A nice big place that held a few POF Events. If its any good maybe another could be consider being held there for us Valley folks who like Country and Western Music :)...I am not sure even with the new name if they have country music :( I looked at their web page and it did not seem the case. Please if you have been there or heard anything about it ...Post ..lol

Hi...its a shame that this man forgot to pay.Perhaps he left in a hurry..or a emergency came up? I think we have probably all had times when our heads are somewhere else. I would hope that NO one from POF would ever do something like this intentionally! Perhaps if you had e mailed him privatly arrangments could have been made to re-pay your friend?? Its sad that we forget our manners when it comes to on line :(

I think when this was first posted the OP mentioned that Newlands was prepared for 50 people ?? Have they now been updated with numbers over 80? Its always good for the venue to be prepared as I know Newlands is tight on space for large groups and they would need to bring in extra staff for a night like this.I love Newlands my only complaint has ever been that the dance floor is toooooo tiny..lol. I guess that makes for cozy dancing :) Does anyone know what style of music this group is going to be playing for the evening? Would love to attend but alias ...to many events to choose from...Enjoy this great evening.

So a general question...is there anything planned for tonight on this side of the bridge? As in the valley side of the Port Man bridge in Vancouver BC. If not..any folks interested in a spur of the moment Newlands Night ? Been a while since folks went there. Putting out feelers to see if there is any interest.

To MTL....if I remember correctly you have horses right? Do you pen them in ? I imagine you consider the horses your pets. Do you see where this is going? I too have a dog and while I am at work he is at home. NO he is not in his crate , but he is kept in the house while I am at work. I would imagine alot of people have pets who cannot have them with them 24/7 hence the need for crates, fences, barns and even fish tanks.A rather silly thing to bring up when the discussion is about envy ...not Pet Crulity. PS.please excuss spelling mistakes...as they do not take away from the contents of the discussion..lol
