Say AA and watch them run

@ blastkist: Anyonymity? Tradition 11: Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion: we need always to maintain PERSONAL ANONYMITY at the level of press, radio and films. Tradition 12 talks about placing principles before personalities. And the A.A. preamble states that our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety. So, its my choice to when, where, and with whom I break my anonymity. If theres a sick and suffering practicing alcoholic that hasnt been exposed to A.A., do I not break my anonymity? Its my responsibility to let him know who I am, and that I can help if he wants it. So... dont think any of us here thats made the choice to come forward has "screwed up." I have the right to break my anonymity, but dont have the right to break the anonymity of others. And with that, I'll K.C.B............. GARY

Smoker vs non-smoker
Posted: 7/29/2005 10:17:27 AM
Im also a smoker, and I.M.O., 2 people will have to have mutual respect for each others preferences. If I go out to eat with a non-smoker, they are asked whcih section of the restaraunt they want to sit in. Most of the time, it doesnt matter. I wont smoke in their home if thats their rules, and have no right to complain about it as well. In turn, when they come to my home, they also have to understand and realize that im going to smoke. I just dont have to blow smoke at them, and at times will even use a "smokeless ashtray" even though its my house. It all has to do with respect.

AH.... good old Guitar Center. We finally got one in the town im in. Has been here about a year now. This store is definately customer oriented. A couple of months ago, I bought the E-MU X Board... 49 key midi controller. Was for playing Bass Lines only, as while being a bass player, I also double on keyboards. The controller started freezing up recently, oscillating on certain notes, and from middle "C" to the next octave, no matter what note I hit, a "C" was played. Felt that this was a very inferior product for the little time ive had it, and even though this was considered a software purchase, and was way beyond the 30 day money back guarentee policy, they still gave me a store credit for the full purchase amount! Great service these guys have! Needless to say, im back to using my old.... very very old Roland E.P.3 (YUK!) as my controller now.

I as well feel comfortable telling people im a member of A.A. and a recovered alcoholic. In the past few years, ive retired from the tool and die trade, and have gone into so called working with the public. As a cashier for a supermarket! I love the job, the people I work with are great, and theres been quite a few of my customers as well ive broken my anonymity with after ive got to know them. A few of them have gone to A.A. meetings with me, and while none have chose to remain sober, they always tell me that they have never drank the same since they've gone to those meetings. Now, A.A. is in the back of there mind. Guess maybe I ws able to help them plant the seed, now its up to them if they want it to grow. And I agree as well with people treating you like you have the plague, as if thats the case, they might be people who would not be conducive to my sober way of life. Gary

Do People Need Changing in a Relationship ?
Posted: 7/12/2005 6:42:02 AM
To some extent, everyone changes a little when they get into a relationship. But, if a person has bad habits, morals, things of that nature, its up to them to change for themselves. Personally, if a person has those type of bad habits, I doubt very much I would date them. Theres 3 things in life I cant change..... people, places, and things. But, the only thing I can change is myself and how I react to people places and things. Hope that made sense, as im still working on my first vat-o-coffee!

Very interesting reading here guys! Ive tried some of the low end Fender Basses, and, IMO only havent liked them. But, quite a few of my friends who play 6 sting guitar have said they really love the cheap Fenders. Companies like Ibanez and Washburn though have made what to me is very playable and good sounding lower end Basses. My mainstay right now is a Peavey Grind bolt-on,(5 string) and is one of the imported "Grind" basses. Bought it through a well known catalog company last year that had a few of these basses they were selling as "factory refurbs." I went to our local music store here, and was very pleased when they had a few of these I could play. Found them to be very good sounding basses, and took the chance and ordered one through the catalog. Ive always hated to do this by the way, as I like to hear the bass without it being "amplified," and also each piece of wood naturally has its own charasteristics and playability. By the way, this guitar retailed somewhere in the area of 649, and bought this for 249. About the only playing out I do anymore is open mic nights, and a lot of the guys who were playing very high end Ernie Balls, Warwicks, and Tobias basses were totally floored by the sound of this bass. And recently, that was with 15 month old strings on them. Just thought I would put some input in from a bass players standpoint. And as a friend of mine once said..... "you can give a cook $50,000 worth of tools, and the lumber to go with it, but can he build a house?"

Just recently received a catalog from a music store here in Michigan that deals in vintage instruments. Name of the store is Elderly Instruments, and they have on there cover a 1960 Les Paul Flame Top, all original. There stock number for this guitar is 30U-12528. Asking price for this guitar is 140,000. Nope, I did not misprint this price from there catalog, although I wonder if they havent. Over the years in receiving there catalogs, ive noticed that Vintage Gibby's bring much much more in price over Fenders. I know that a lot of the new Fender stuff also carries Made in Mexico as well as a few other countires. Did this have anything to do with Fenders not bringing such a high price in Vintage guitars? Just a little curious here, and I figure gman will be able to give a good answer to this. By the way, this Gibby is a beaut!

^^^^ Well said. Ive been a member of Doctor Bobs office for almost 4 1/2 years now, and have never felt "brainwashed". I wonder if those friends of mspickys are still sober today? Dont think ive ever met anyone with 10, 20, or 30 years of CONTINUED sobriety in A.A. that have ever said "They brainwashed me!" Ive worked with the general public for close to 4 years now, dealing with on the average 450-600 people a night. Have probably broke my anonymity with over half of them, at my choosing after getting to know them. I would say that over 90% of them respect me for for what ive done, and a very good percentage as well have come to me talking about alcoholism in regards to themselves, a family member or friends. Have even taken a few to meetings. If someone reaches out, I try to be there for them. But, in turn, i've sent replies to letters ive got on P.O.F. and told them I was a recovering Alky, and that was the last I heard from them. Sheesh... isnt like this is the plague or something! But thats ok.... as it also tells me that im probably better off not meeting that person,as they have a problem accepting things. No matter what happens today in my life, ive learned a new freedom, and thats all that matters to me as long as I stay sober and help the next person who needs it. Congrats on your year.

If someone lies to you...are you skepitical of the next one that comes along?
Posted: 6/22/2005 8:01:31 AM
Sorry that happend to ya Sweet. But, im willing to bet the farm that eventually this catches up with him too. If life was a bed of roses, we wouldnt grow and mature. So.... while you might not be aware of this yet, you just grew a little! This guy will get what he deserves eventually, and obviously, he didnt deserve you. My father once told me that I will encounter 3 things in life... whats fair, whats unfair, and then theres reality! While this was very unfair, sad as it is to say, its also reality. He had also told me that liers do not succeed for very long, as all lying does is cover up ones actions, and sooner or later, it just catches up to them. So.... hold your head up high, as while it may hurt, you dont have to deal with scum!

Dating Musicians??????
Posted: 6/1/2005 11:10:58 AM
Musicians seemto be stereotyped as a bunch of alkies and druggies, which might be a turn off to some. But..... key word is stereotyped. I get together with a few guys... we do play out, and the strongest thing any of us puts in our system is coffee. We dont party after the gig is done neither. But.... a committed musician at times does not have a lot of free time. But its also a 2 way street on sacrifice, as if the musician really cares about who hes (or shes) with, and that person is willing to accept it, then things can work out. Its a trust issue on both sides.... as after all... when the musicians away...........

Think thats always been one plus for me Late... I generally never take anythng as an insult. How was that ice cream? Made me hungry just thnking about it! Just out of curiosity... i know your a big tube amp player, not to keen on solid state. but, whats your take on the Fender Stage 112 solid state amp. I own one, dont play it much, and the few times ive loaned it out, I always get offers for it. A lot of people have siad this is a close as it gets to tubes after playing through it..... Damn... need to go get some ice cream now.

@ Late. Thanx for all the help last night. Graceful me bumped one of the control knobs on the Yamaha, which took it out of the midi program setting. All the info you gave did work out. Trying to get my guitar player logged onto this site just to chat with ya, and help out in the musicians forums, but, hes married, and usually working 4-6 nights a week. Hes a professional sound man, and when not running sound for a local band which hes been with for over a year, he has been on the road with B.B King, Dr. John, J.Geils...... 3 months with those last year, and recently the Stylistics, Temptations, and some of the other old Motown acts. The band he runs sound for can be found at Croprock.com. Thanx again Late...

Hmmm.... thats not working....and i know it should. As the main outs of the module routes the sound to P.A., amp, or where ever. Ok, one thing i should also mention as well.... on occasion, I do trigger drum samples from another midi device, which is why I would like the Midi in. Thats more for studio projects than playing live though. Thats why I mentioned a midi patchbay of some sort. Am going to check some parameters, and thanx Late. By the way, finally heard some of your music. Fantastic stuff. My guitar player wishes he could add you to our open mic jams! We do some Robin Trower quite well, almost the whole Bridge of Sighs album depending on drummer, and he would like a break from some of his leads!

Ok.... just unplugged the "midi in" from my yamaha keyboard. No sounds. So, im assuming I need to have both plugged in...... I/O from the module as well As I/O from the keyboard or controller to complete the signal path. Oh no...... unless something else is wrong!

Ok..... this is a guitar players thread, but... maybe someone can help me, as it applies to midi.
I have a junk Roland keyboard that finally went. It was the EP 5, and I was using it for my Alesis Quadrasynth Rackmount Sound Module. The keyboard just gave out, nothing happens with any of the keys I hit. Now, I know for a fact my midi cables are good, as well as the sound module, as I hooked that up through my Yamaha Keyboard. Im looking for a new keyboard for the module, and most of the ones ive found only have midi outs. That is, unless I want to spend 400 or more for a keyboard, which i dont. Can anyone help me as to a possible midi patchbay, or some other way to hook this up. And i might add, the usb midi interface connection is not needed. I know one option is just to go buy a cheap Casio, as they have midi I/O, which is really all i need.... but.... I hate Casio! I know that M-Audio makes a pretty decent keyboard controller for about 149, but, it only has midi out. Thanx Late, or Guitarman, as I figure it will be one of you two who answer! lol..... You guys seem to know pretty much anything that is asked..... regardless.
