Debunking creationist myths

Chandra Wickramasinghe speaking to a Judge at the Arkansas trial on creation, design or accident said. Random trail is only 1 part in 10 to the 40 thousandth power an outrageously small probability that could not be faced even if the whole universe consisted of organic soup.

If one is not prejudice either by social beliefs or by scientific training into the convection that life originated on the earth this simple calculation wipes the idea entirely out of cord. The enormous information contact with even the simplest living cell cannot be in our view generated by what are often called natural processes. For life to have originated on the earth it would be necessary that quite explicit instructions should have been provided for its assembly.

There is no way in which we can expect to avoid the need for information, no way in which we can simply get by with a bigger or better organic soup as we ourselves hope might be possible. The ACULU attorney stood up and said, but Judge anything would look like design after the fact. For example 60 thousand people may come and show up at a football game. Nobody would have expected that type of assembly or predicted that for a particular football game.

Chandra Wickramasinghe couldn’t help laughing, he said, judge I don’t think this man understands probability. The first thing I want to say to you is that whatever the example is he just used, just proves design and not accident.

Number one, they knew there was a football game going on, number two, they bought tickets for it. Had every football game they attended accidentally sat 60 thousand of them in alphabetical order every time, then he might have a case in point.

Ironically I've yet to hear any scientist either in the academic or professional field give a definitive answer that quantifies origin.

The issue with science whether you want to haggle over evolution or other theory still leaves science with a problem, origin. What scientist have discovered or will discover would have already existed. So unless science can transcend time, they are just flattering themselves by identifying what has already been created.

Agreed- nobody can be certain about how life started. But obviously - living things being composed of chemicals, and therefore atoms, somehow originate from some chemical process- so the logic follows- what was the chemistry and circumstance that brought about life.

That is the fundamental question, at least that is the question that stands in stark contrast for science. Keep in mind, what science has discovered or will discover would have already existed. Science can't transcend time to witness the formulation of the universe.

That's good that your panel of scientists represent several views- it helps to keep the integrity and have dissenting points of view to interrogate ones position. I would argue that your panel needs more- Muslims and Buddhists as well- to present their views of Creation, the origin of life and evolution. In this way we can real discuss the beliefs of human beings - not just the major ones here in the Western world.

But such a discussion would be large and unwieldy- its easier to discuss small points in smaller groups sometimes.

Again there is really no reason for one side to dismiss the other- maybe by working together we can actually come up with a greater understanding of these issues. And figure out a way to educate our young to think, move forward with the explorable issues and improve the world for all.

I think this is the goal of science and religion- to understand the world and make it better.

This depends on what University Ravi is Speaking at. The Panel is typically made up of faculty from that particular University. Since Ravi speaks all over the world he's given many lectures in the Middle East and in Asian countries, Ravi is an Asian Indian by birth and is well versed in Eastern Philosophy. In the Q&A Sessions there will be Buddhist and Muslims asking various questions.

To give you a little outline as far as other 'belief systems and creation'. The Hindu Upanishad states nothingness is where life comes from, this is an incomplete system. Even Gautama Buddha used terms like heaven and hell even though in classical Buddhism it’s none-theistic. Buddhism doesn't have a creation account.

As far as the Muslim they will tell you that the Qur’an is word for word perfect (in only one language). The Muslim will say it’s a perfect revelation of Allah in the eye of a Muslim. They will affirm that again and again. That’s why no translation of the Qur’an will do justice in their estimation of the Qur’an, it is the perfect expression of Allah himself as dictated to Muhammad who recited it. Out side of Allah there is nothing else, this does not account for origin, condition, salvation and destiny consistently or coherently.

Sadly though, alot of unfortunate people skipping about today 'actually' believe that the historical Jesus was 'actually' the son of God and not just a man like the rest of us.

I respect your opinion, however its important to remember that an opinion should be the result of thought and not a substitute for it. People may arguably suggest that Jesus wasn't the Son of God, but Historians and Theologians would most certainly acknowledge that Jesus existed.

The Person of Jesus Christ distinguishes himself from perceived philosopher by virtue of the fact that anything in philosophy is possible as long as you don't identify it as truth. Jesus intrinsically represented the truth by his very existence.

Five ways that Jesus is unique:

First is his eternal perspective. The Bible says unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. The son is not born, the child is born. The son is given because the son eternally existed. He prays in his high priestly prayer “restore to me the glory Father that I had in your presence before this world was made.”

Jesus is the only creature in existence as part of the God head whose reason for existence is in him-self. Jesus fuses every moment of history with meaning. If he is transcending over time, if he is the eternal “I Am” and is always ever present then he fuses all time with meaning.

Second is his internal imperative. He did not come to set up a political power that would rule and constrain from without. He came to touch the hearts of men and women that would bring the imperative from within.

Napoleon said “Alexander’s kingdom and my kingdom will ultimately come to not, but Jesus’ kingdom is indestructible because ours was dominated by power and force. He has dominated the life of people with the power of love.

Third is his personal directive. As vast as this world is, as vast is this world was, Christ had time for the individual. His message is personal in the cosmic scheme of things how marvelous it is that he has time for you and me.

Forth is his inspirational incentive. How his existence has influenced and inspired people throughout time, from then to today.

Fifth is his incarnational distinctive. As the word became flesh and dwelt among us full of grace and truth.

Why do you suppose that the volumes of facts and data in support of evolution have been repressed in public schools. I know that religious leaders are opposed, but they aren't enough to persuade the boards to not teach the theory.

Even as a believer I don't object to the teaching of evolution as a theory. A good bit of this argument tends to get lost in sophistry and semantics. There isn't a Scientist in the Professional or Academic field that has ever quantified or quantified the answer to origin. Scientist by their very nature have to responsibly recognize the laws of their profession.

Scientist have to be intellectually honest enough to know they can't side step the laws of Science to then manufacture an answer for origin and remain consistent. I've seen in various Lectures in Apologetics, Scientist who are Christians sitting next to their colleagues who are Agnostic, sitting next to their colleagues who are none-believers.

The fundamental argument isn't a matter of intellectualizing Scientific Method as implicit de facto and by its merit suggesting that this is the only explication that holds up to scrutiny.

Atheists: What are your theories on how *it* all began?
Posted: 7/19/2009 7:45:59 AM
If we start with Atheism we begin with its origin. Atheism comes from the Greek (A) alpha the negative and theism (Theos) for God, in other words negative God, there is no God. That’s what the word atheism really means. It’s not saying I do not 'think' there is a God. It’s not even saying I do not 'believe' there is a God it is affirming the none existence of God. It affirms a negative, it affirms the none existence of God. It’s a logical contradiction.

As far as how did the universe happen this is something that Science doesn't know either. This is why any 'scientist' of any level of reputation either professionally or academically, knows they have a problem. Its not a matter of science discovering the essence of origin, but what science is up against is the fact that they can't transcend time. In other words, everything that exist or that will be discovered, would have already existed.

We are finite beings working within the confines of a linear universe. Every other creature looks for the reason of its existence outside of itself we are all contingent caused and finite.

God is the only entity in existence the reason for whose existence is in him-self. Every other entity in existence looks for the reason of their existence outside of themselves. God is the only necessary uncaused being and in that sense alone his is perfect, he doesn’t even need a cause for him to be.

If this God necessarily exist there never was time that he was not and there never will be a time that he will not be. He needed no cause he eternally and necessarily exist.

Some profiles can be very generic and since most people have some sort of interest in Music and Movies as two examples, you still have to do a little reading between the lines. I like profiles that are creative and witty despite some of the more common interest.

MySpace ruling could lead to jail for lying online daters, others
Posted: 12/1/2008 8:49:42 AM
This certainly has some interesting ramifications, however whether its enforced is another matter all together.

Full Article: http://news.cnet.com/8301-13739_3-10110069-46.html

The MySpace suicide case concluded last week, with the jury finding Lori Drew guilty of three misdemeanor counts of gaining unauthorized access to the popular social-networking site.

While most of the press attention has been focused on the specifics of the case, the more important issue is the potential impact this could have on the Internet in general.

Web site terms of service, which end users universally ignore, suddenly have teeth: violating them is a federal hacking offense, punishable with jail time. The days of being able to freely lie on the Web could be coming to an end. This could mean serious trouble for people who lie about their age, weight or marital status in their online dating profiles.

Bad cases lead to bad laws

The specifics of the Lori Drew case are messy and emotional. The important fact is that there is no cyberbullying statute, and so the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles turned to a novel interpretation of existing computer hacking laws to try to punish the woman. The general idea is that in creating terms of service, a Web site owner specifies the rules of admission to the site. If someone violates any of those contractual terms, the "access" to the Web site is done without authorization, and is thus hacking.

Unfortunately for Internet users everywhere, a jury bought the theory last week, and found Lori Drew guilty of three misdemeanor violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, punishable with up to one year in a federal prison and a $100,000 fine for each of the three counts.

Happy Easter: The Uniqueness of Christ
Posted: 3/23/2008 9:18:18 AM
The Uniqueness of Christ

As vast as this world is as vast is this world was Christ had time for the individual. His message is personal in the cosmic scheme of things how marvelous it is that he has time for you and me. As the Bible says, what is it in man that you are mindful of him or the son of man that you visited him? For when I see the heavens and the work of your hands, the moon and the stars which you have made ‘what’ is there in man that you are mindful of him.

Forth is his inspirational incentive. How his existence has influenced and inspired people throughout time, from then to today.

Fifth is his incarnational distinctive. As the word became flesh and dwelt among us full of grace and truth.

When you look at the uniqueness of Christ in history does it mean that there is nothing in Christ message that you will find anywhere else in some fragmentary form, no, but it does mean that in him there is such a consummate expression of God and in his messages is the totality of the expression of what we need for salvation and life. So that anything that contradicts it becomes untrue by definition of the fact that he claimed to be the truth.

So either Christ is false or that which contradicts him is false. There may be hints of truth and ideas in other systems, but the consummate expression in Christ is so geared towards truthfulness in an absolute sense so that anything that contradicts ipso facto becomes false.

The U.S. jails more of its citizens than China does
Posted: 3/8/2008 6:11:06 AM
What the report fails to illustrate is what these people are being arrested for and jailed. If you drive on a suspended license you're going to be arrested and put into jail, this goes for DUI as well. These would be minor infractions that could land people in jail, some people can't afford bail thus they stay in jail till the can be arraigned.

In a domestic disputes for example a scuffle in a parking lot will land people in jail for assault, so there are any number of reasons why people are put into jail that doesn't mean they will remain there. Nearly forgot people who violate probation are jailed too.
