ADHD children anyone?
Posted:
8/29/2005 10:13:34 PM
I am the mom of a 12 year old that has been diagnosed with ADHD since he was seven. Its important to first recognize that in young children, this is a difficult illness to diagnose. Sleep disorders, dyslexia and many other conditions may share behaviors actually associated with ADHD and lead to innappropriate diagnosis. Always have young children checked for sleep disorders and vision problems before giving in to teachers or family members who think ADHD is the only condition that causes hyperactivity. Full blood panels should also be done to rule out endocrinology disorders.
My son is brilliantly intelligent, absolutely loving, and Denis the menace x 100! His energy and
personality are what make my little man irresistible. Yes he drives me up walls and around bends, but he is the life of every place he visits, he'll always make u laugh. Its important with children who have such a hard time of it, to be constantly reminded of how wonderful they are, to always hear them when it is time to make decisions about meds, or any treatment. Help them by giving them some control, and remind them that this isn't their fault, no more than if the child had diabetes or any other medical condition. They require absolutes in their lives, discipline must be consistent so the child always knows what to expect. There isn't any use in yelling, it helps no one, but when you can say to a child..."did you know the consequence of this behavior would be this" and the child says yes, then there is nothing to argue about! And consequences are more easily accepted and behaviours change because the child wants them to change too!
My son had no friends until he started on meds, he was physically overwhelming to other children his age. Meds became an option the minute my child said to me, "no one wants to play with me cuz they're scared i'll hurt them". When a childs life is so interupted, what parent wouldn't try everything to help them. You wouldn't withold medication if the diagnosis were diabetes or seizures, why would you because its ADHD! Certainly all avenues should be trialed, but meds changed my son's life. He no longer has physical behaviours because his meds gave him the time to learn appropriate behavior...he has lots of friends now who see him much as I do! A bright light who will always try to make u laugh especially if your sad! Give your child a chance to shine with whatever treatment they need to get them through the day! And love them every second they are in your life...especially when they're driving you bonkers!

of course i think of him...and often...and i know it would never have worked...i was too free and relaxed and he was too obcessive compulsive! Unfortunately i run into him like twice a year and we don't even live in the same city anymore, and we usually run into eachother away from both our homes...its always weird and we never know what to do, so we don't even talk...we just turn and go the other way. The old feelings are still there...and he's married now. I would never go back to him...but I still love him...that will never change, nor should it...love doesn't just end.

Are women really capable of casual sex?
Posted:
5/10/2005 9:56:32 PM
Absolutely yes, women are very capable of having casual sex! The problem is the lack of communication. It's really very important to tell the person your sleeping with that its casual, and that if that ever changes that the sex will stop! This of course is not fool proof and often has the opposite effect. Its that whole hunt thing...wanting what u can't have sorta deal...often makes things go poorly. Its also important to note...casual sex cannot last forever...i think a six month max really before one of the two involved gets attached....of course this is just a number i picked out of thin air! LOL...good luck!

Hurt, Pissed, Scared?...What?!

Heres how it goes. She's gonna do what she wants to do. If she decides to keep the baby, give her lots of love and support. If she decides to give up the baby, give her lots of love and support.
Whats done is done. Getting mad at her will not change or help anything.
My bestfriends daughter had a baby at a very young age...we were all so worried, about her the baby, if she had made the right choices. She's a briliant mom now, lives on her own, raising her baby, and putting her life in order. Thats what u will help this young mum do. She will love u and and appreciate u for it!

Can a woman and a Man be just friends?????
Posted:
5/9/2005 12:06:21 PM
yes and no....yes guys and chicks can be friends....only after they've dated or been in a relationship. I've had a relationship with each of my three close male friends. We absolutely will never fall into bed or have our friendship mucked up cuz we already know it wouldn't work...no curiousity at all about what it would be like cuz we already know. I think its hard for men and women to be friends without wondering what it would be like, just once, and that one mistake may cost u a dear friend.

Absolutely...except in my case they usually start out as a boyfriend or date...and we end up friends cuz it didn't work out in the relationship department...i have at three close male friends that started out that way. They were so great that i just kept em! Gregg and i have been friends now for fourteen years! Theres no physical attraction and we already know it would never work out for us so no temptation! But if u've never been involved with yer friend of the opposite sex....i think u always wonder...................and the potential to act on it is always there.

what do women really want
Posted:

Simply put...we want it all baby. We want a friend, a lover, a good parent, someone who can laugh and someone who can hold your hand while u cry, share in all the days little things and share the burden when we sweat the big stuff. We want tons of personality but not so much we think yer flirting with our friends, pay attention to us, but don't smother us. Make us feel special from time to time, talk to us and occasionally tell us we're everything and more. But really don't men want the same!
Do we have male friends...yes, of course, anyone who doesn't have friends of the opposite sex is missing out on a valuable part in their lives. Anyone who can't tolerate their other half having friends of the opposite sex is lacking in self esteem. Those friends offer great insight into helping u out with yer partner! My male friends are my friends because i love them...they do for me as much as my girlfriends do....give advice, make me laugh, take me out when i need it...take the shirts off their backs if i asked. And not because i'd sleep with them, but because i would do the same for them. Thats why they're called friends instead of booty calls.
Its all about connection...in time we all find it.

As a nurse let me tell u....its a bruise and not much makes them go away. The blood is there...and will go away on its own time! Depends on what kind of healer u are i think. Good luck with your remedies, and ps...if u find one that really works u could sell it to the medical community and make a fortune!

I personally prefer men with children as i don't want any more...he has had that need fulfilled which is perfect. Plus...the way a man is with his children indicates alot about him. Not to mention that a good dad is a sexy man!

When should BF/GF meet the kid(s)?
Posted:
4/21/2005 7:58:31 PM
i think it should be based on the age of the child...my boys are 11 and 14, and are pushing me out the door to date. They're brilliant children of course! So i have asked them what they would like...do they want to meet the guys i date...not meet them...i basically let them decide what they wanted. It was perfect...their answer was...whateven and whenever i wanted, they would meet him! Children are so intuitive that most of the time, they have the right answers! I do think though that under the age of six or seven is more delicate, i think four months to meet, six months when you do things together, 8 months on before he can stay the night...at least! It has to be in little steps so that child doesnt feel overwhelmed! Every child is different though...just my guidelines!

I think the reality is u have to find someone in the same head space as your in. A single woman who isn't ready for children of her own will probably not be ready for someone else's. Women who have kids, most likely don't want to parent children younger than her own because the reality is she probably already feels she's done most of the child rearing alone and may be past the point of going back to little ones. That of course is not to say that there are always women who love a man first...then accept everything that comes with him, ex wife, children, baggage, all in the same hand. First though, she should fall in love with u, and then your children. Without that connection, it just won't work.
