Ever been dramatically changed in a relationship?
Posted: 12/9/2005 11:24:07 PM
yeah, i went home with a girl I met at a bar awhile back and woke up with three kids, a mortgage, a truck payment, and the inability to think for myself. How the hell did that happen?

It sure can, It's been 8 years so far. The problem with having sex the first time, especially for guys is you start thinking " if she did it with me the first time....."

sex and drinking do they mix
Posted: 12/5/2005 10:44:48 PM
Is there really anything that's not more fun while drinking? Actually, the best part about drinking and having sex is it numbs the little guy up enough that I don't embarrass myself by finishing before we've technically started.

Progressive taxation
Posted: 6/4/2005 10:04:27 AM
I can see neighborhood roads and the like being maintained by the local residents - this happens a lot in unincorporated areas now. What I can't see is someone paying to maintain say the Palm Springs, CA to Phoenix, AZ stretch of interstate freeway. There are not very many residents on that stretch, just a couple hundred miles of desert.

Current good reads....bestsellers or obscure titles?
Posted: 6/4/2005 9:56:01 AM
for a great piece about some of the dangers of religion - always relevant, read The Grand Inquisitor, a piece from The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dosteyvesky. ( I don't reccomend the whole book unless your in prison or something, it's a long, difficult book)

other less obscure great reads:
A Time to Kill, John Grisham
the Gunslinger series, Stephen King

New Obstacle to Military Recruiters: Parents
Posted: 6/3/2005 6:58:38 PM
In order to fill the recruiting ranks maybe the armed services could be recruiting from our swollen prison system. This might sound crazy but hear me out. Instead of sending draft-age people to jail for offenses such as possession of a controlled substance, shoplifting, DUI and other non-violent offenses to jail give them the option of joining the armed forces. Tell them if they serve for four years with an honorable discharge their record will be expunged. This would do three things - get these violators off the street serving thier debt to society, enable them to earn a living while gaining some valuable work experience, and add many new recruits to the military. I think that many non-violent offenders would be rehabilitated much more effectively in the military than in prison.

Religous Right Losing Power? Specter say Senate will override veto on Stem Cell bill
Posted: 6/1/2005 3:17:24 PM
as i understand it Maj, and I'm not claiming to be an expert, the cord blood stem cells do not have the ability to differentiate as well as embryonic stem cells. I agree that this avenue also needs to be explored very thouroughly. BTW, you are one of the few of the religuos and conservative that attempt to hold intelligent debate on here, kudos to majmike.

Posted: 6/1/2005 2:44:24 PM
No, it won't be overturned, I posted that myself. What I am refering to is just the fact that republicans (at leat in the senate) are willing to break ranks with President Bush on a subject as important to evangelicals as stem cell research.

Who would vote for a third party candidate?
Posted: 5/30/2005 8:51:17 PM
Yes i would, but it would have to be a very special candidate to have a chance to win as a third party candidate. As partisan and right or left wing the two major parties have seem to become the time might be ripe for a charasmatic moderate politician to make a run as a thrid party candidate.

Let us remember
Posted: 5/30/2005 8:37:56 PM
God Bless those serving now, and all those that have gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country from the revolutionary war to the ongoing war and Iraq, and every one in between.

"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants"
Thomas Jefferson

While many of us on POF do not agree with the war in Iraq, myself included, let's all take some time to reflect on the bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism of all those in uniform serving our country tonight.

tell me this, do you think we should have declared war on germany? after all hitler wasnt a threat to the united states.

Why do some of the conservatives keep posting references to what liberals would or would not do? This is ridiculous, I have not seen one post by a liberal that said they would not have went to war with Germany or Japan in WWII. There were far more clear and compeeling reasons for the U.S. to enter WWII than the current war in Iraq, attempting to draw a parallel only show the ignorance of the poster. And by the way, Germany was a direct threat to the United States, the plan of the Germans was to take over the entire world. They were also on the brink of invading Britain, our strongest ally.

They've surrounded the city of baghdad only, it would take 10 times that number to surround the country.

Religous Right Losing Power? Specter say Senate will override veto on Stem Cell bill
Posted: 5/28/2005 8:11:06 PM

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who is chief sponsor of a bill to expand federal financing for human embryonic stem cell research, issued a stark challenge to President George W. Bush on Wednesday, saying he had enough votes in the Senate to override a presidential veto of the measure.
"I don't like veto threats, and I don't like statements about overriding veto threats," Specter said, speaking at a news conference where the House backers of the measure presented him the legislation, which passed the House on Tuesday, topped with a red bow.

"But if a veto threat is going to come from the White House, then the response from the Congress is to override the veto, if we can," Specter added. "Last year we had a letter signed by some 58 senators, and we had about 20 more in the wings. I think if it really comes down to a showdown, we will have enough in the United States Senate to override a veto."

This thread is not to argue for or against stem cell research, that subject has already been discussed at length. What I am interested in is the opinions of POF'rs on what this means for the religuos right. Does a veto override by a republican congress spell trouble for the religous right?

Sterilization (Perm./Temp) of Welfare Moms
Posted: 5/28/2005 7:28:41 PM

A better solution to this dilemma is just cut off welfare. Why should I be forced (through taxes) to pay for welfare moms to mass produce babies? You shouldn't have children if you can't afford to support them. The root cause of the problem is that many people don't want to take responsibility for themselves and instead depend on the government for their existence, which is a sad state of affairs. In such a case you never really "grow" beyond childhood and discover what it truly means to be a man or woman. If I wasn't forced to help fund welfare, I might be persuaded to contribute out of sympathy, but since the system is picking my pocket right now, I have very little inclination to do so.

What a ridiculous statement by Themistocles. The welfare system is in place so families don't end up homeless and near starvation because they are going through some hard times. I don't disagree that some people corrupt the system, however throwing it all away is ridiculous. Getting back to the original thread, sterilization of women? Why not just do what is done in California right now? There is a 60 month limit for recieving welfare benefits over a lifetime. That is 5 years, after that you are cut off. Also , no benefits are paid for any children concieved after the first date benefits are paid. So in California a women cannot keep having kids to increase benefits.

well for one thing the indians live on reservations if they want too there is no one keeping them there anymore and the get one hell of a check every month that you and i pay but most stay on the reservations cause if they leave they dont get the check and they have to work for what they want

I don't know what you've heard azhunting, but native americans do not get large checks from the government. Most native americans on indian reservations live in the poverty that would be expected of a third world country. I know this because I am a Blackfeet indian, born on the reservation in Montana. My family got out because of the poverty and the lack of an opportunity to better yourself. To say native americans (excepting those that have casinos) are sitting around collecting fat government checks is ignorant of the facts. Azhunting, go take a good look at that Navajo reservation there in az.

What happens while we are dying?
Posted: 5/16/2005 8:26:51 PM

The Lord Jesus proclaimed, “But take heed; behold, I have foretold you all things” (Mk. 13:23). God does not change (Mal. 3:6; Heb. 6:17)!
It is written that the coming Antichrist will be a World Dictator (Rev. 13:7). He will have authority over all nations and their people!

“Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day (the Rapture) shall not come, except there come the falling away first (apostasy), and that man of sin (the Antichrist) be revealed, the son of perdition (loss), Who opposeth...God (2 Th. 2:3-4).

And this proves the validity of the Bibles predictions of the future how?
