any Portishead/Radiohead fans out there?

I remember the first time I heard Portishead... I don't know what album it was, but it had Sour Times on it, - a slower, dirtier version, which included a guest DJ scratching away. We listened to the album until 7 in the morning, my friend drank everything there was to be drunk in the house, we felt dirty and it was good... Man, that was something....

I've done worse. I've cried. Can you believe that?
After two hours of pushing myself and fighting the exhaustion, I got so incredibly angry and frustrated with pain, and yet I had to start over, and over, and over, and over again until I got it right.
When I walked out the door limping and aching, I just started crying. I'd completely, utterly lost it. Mentally I was still there, but the body just gave up, so I just watched myself cry.... Felt fantastic afterwards though.

I haven't heard the Trans Siberian Orchestra yet, but what do you guys think of DreamTheater? That's symphonic alright. Well, maybe not strictly speaking, but.
I don't normally like the genre, but dammit I have to take these guys seriously. Serious, serious musos.

I tried to bake a quiche this week. I ended up with some sort of sauerkraut type of gunge in the pan. I didn't put it in the oven. The pan is propping up wise pranker's kitchen table, as he needed his cake to hold the door.

Like sky said.
I don't quite understand whether she has been to court for THIS offence, as you talk about the mother covering up for her.
I assume that she has been reported to the police since you all know she did it. And you would obviously denounce a mugger.
So the police are dealing with it. She doesn't have to listen to your opinion, but on your side you don't have to accept her in your house, near your kids if you have any, etc... And you can tell your friend that. If you put the forms she should see that you have a point.
And like Laura said: why not do something CONSTRUCTIVE and visit the old lady in hospital instead.

I read somewhere that they actually compared the survival rate in ER, and they found it is definitely higher than in real life (I'll have to find the exact numbers). I'm surprised that someone bothered checking, but it is an interesting point.
Have never had to do CPR on a patient myself, but I'm am in NO rush to start.
I can also wait for my first open fracture. No rush what.so.ever...

Unpretty / The greatest crime in love
Posted:

Allow me to rephrase:
'Most of us need to feel that we can be loved, that in someone's eyes our inadequacies, quirks or actual faults are outweighed if only at times by our qualities as a human being. Most of us find it help them living.'
As for the psychopath joke, it went down so fast I didn't even see what happened.

Sure, we need to learn to roll with the blows. But if we look at the other side of things...In a loving relationship between ordinary decent crim...uh...people, where no harm is intended, isn't it much easier to forgive the other, than to forgive yourself? You can come to term with your own pain and forgive them, but how do you forgive yourself for the pain that you saw in their eyes? How do you forgive yourself for the times when you made them feel unpretty, inadequate, maybe unwanted...God knows we don't need to try hard in order to make someone feel like that. Sometimes we're so good at it we don't even realize we're doing it. Or is it just me?

Unpretty / The greatest crime in love
Posted:
5/13/2006 8:09:14 AM
This morning I woke up with a song playing in a loop in my head, as I often do. It was only a phrase really, as that is all I can remember of the song. I never thought Destiny's child would ever get me thinking about the human condition, but there you go. The phrase in question is "You made me feel so damn unpretty".
Now I'm sure we have all been guilty of some heinous crime in the lurve department, like lying, cheating etc. (and another few which we have yet to invent - keep reading the forums for news). But I wonder if one of the most basic, maybe at the root of other ones, is making someone feel unpretty. Now I don't actually know the song, and I am not talking about physical looks.
What I mean is that we all need to feel that we can be loved, that in someone's eyes our inadequacies, quirks or actual faults are outweighed if only at times by our qualities as a human being. It helps us living (except for the few (?) happy psychopaths among us -you know who you are- who seem to get along fine without it.)
So maybe one of the worst crime is to make someone feel inadequate, unworthy of love either physical or sentimental. Have you ever seen a loved one, stand humiliated and wounded because of you? Or have you been blind, and can only see it now, weeks or months later?
It tastes a bit like fine undiluted home-made vinegar, doesn't it, to think how we sometimes return the love we get. I find the taste lingers for years.
Voila. My happy thoughts for the day. You wouldn't think I have a date tomorrow with a pretty girl who also seems very sweet. I don't know what to wear and I have stage fright. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

That sounds very plausible to me.
I noticed someone in the street yesterday, and my mind went to overdrive for about 10 seconds, then I realised the woman reminded me of someone. I found a face "in the database" that matched closely: She looked a little like my GP.

He would have to be SERIOUSLY good on a musical level to pull off that sh.
If he is, the party could be good, but it needs a new name. Some people in some places say that and mean it.
My favourite pub sometimes has music good enough to qualify. I mean, the band sometimes plays Scott-Heron, Sly and the Family Stone, and Bill Withers in the same night. I didn't even know there were cover bands who did that.

How many people can admit that they were spazzes in PE in school?
Posted:
8/23/2005 1:44:18 PM
I remember the day my social life as a teenager was going to end.
Parallel bars, PE lesson, in the middle of the courtyard at school. I watched the parallel bars, wondering how the hell I would pull myself up there without help. I had NEVER MANAGED it before.
That's not all. Facing me was a three floor building. It was recess, all the girls (about 40 of them) were standing outside their classroom, on every floor. Watching the guys. And watching me, standing in front of the bars.
I pulled myself up like I was gonna die.
No need to say this is the FIRST and LAST time I MANAGED it !!!!
A girl I dated the following year said :
" Oh I remember watching you that day. Impressive."
Me : " Oh, that ? Yeah sure. Whatever."
Thank you Lord. Thank you, Thank you.

No offence to marriage councillors that are separated or divorced, just a little irony in that.
You can build a great ship, and be a lousy captain yourself.
You can be an expert at relationships, and still not be able to look at your own with the distance required.
But I agree, it is ironic.

If you happened to visit a pirates' graveyard in the aul' colonies, you might see cigarettes, rum and whiskey left as offerings on a tomb. The bottles are empty in the morning, but my brother, ever the kill-joy, said it was only hobos at night.
I've also seen slaughtered hens (probably roosters actually) left on the side of the road. You'd think they're roadkill, but it's not advised to move them. Messes up your mojo I suppose.

My $0.02 : it comes originally from West Africa (Fela Kuti followers know what I mean), and was brought to America with the slaves. They believe in a single powerful being, have the equivalent of guardian angels, so there 's a few similarities with European religions.
Apparently there's the real vodun religion, and there's voodoo, practiced mainly in Hollywood.
I heard the zombies are people who are drugged to their eyeballs, and have little brain left. You can pretend to bury them for a while and stuff if needed.
But it's very hard to dissociate history from hollywood stories.
For more details we'd have to ask Google.

I lost a good friend like that. It was only for about $50, but he stood me up three times in a row when he was supposed to pay me back. Then added some lies on top of that.
My bros, my parents, they had all told me he was bad news, but I guess he was my mate, so I had to see it for myself.
The strange thing is that I was not angry at him after that. I just lost interest, completely and utterly, as if he'd fallen off the face of the earth.
Put it down to experience I suppose.
