You know you are not in the big city anymore when....

I'm going to guess that's much more likely to be a basset hound than an orca
Like yourself, I swore what was brought into the city by the couple living in the basement suite is what sounds to be moose in the mating season
Nope ... doesn't sound like a basset hound although it could be a horny moose. Sounded to me like a female orca in labour. That moaning went on for 2 days & finally stopped this evening. As far as the duck quacking ... that was definitely a duck but there is still a 'no farm animals' bylaw here. Mind you, it could have been some kid's toy duck that had a realistic built-in quacker.
On topic, here are some pros & cons about living in smaller towns from http://www.essortment.com/home/prosconsliving_svhy.htm
PRO: Clothing is much cheaper in a small town – even “designer” sports shoes.
CON: As you sit on the porch, the lady across the street calls to tell you that your shoestring’s untied.
PRO: Town folk are friendly and take a real interest in your daily life.
CON: Congratulations are on the answering machine. The pregnancy kit is still in the grocery bag.
PRO: People who live in small towns always have time to stop and chat.
CON: Telemarketers don’t even call small town dwellers, because they can’t get them off the line.
PRO: Taxes are lower in small towns – a real plus!
CON: The PTO meeting is cut short to set up for the play that evening in the cafe-gym-itorium.
PRO: You don’t have to travel far to go shopping in a small town.
CON: It’s 7:00 on Christmas Eve and you forgot a Christmas gift. The Five and Dime closed at noon.
PRO: There’s plenty of fresh air when you live out in the country.
CON: You light the barbecue, and your neighbors and their families all come over with picnic foods.
PRO: You’ll never get lost in a small town.
CON: Sunday drives are quite short; there’s only one major road – Main Street.
PRO: Life is slower in a small town – you don’t even have to set your alarm clock.
CON: You’re shaken out of bed every morning when the local train rumbles past the house.
PRO: The crime rate is lower in small towns – you don’t need multiple locks on the door.
CON: The Avon lady has tea on – the neighbor let her in. You introduce yourself to the neighbor.
PRO: Loud neighbors and emergency sirens won’t keep you awake at night.
CON: If only those crickets would just shut up and go to sleep!
PRO: Country living allows you to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
CON: The babbling brook lulls you to sleep. You soon memorize the way to the bathroom in the dark.
PRO: There are no subways to contend with when living in a small town.
CON: You drive for 2 hours – each way – to go from your small town home to your job in the city.
PRO: There’s a lot of room for your pets to run and play in your big back yard.
CON: So much wildlife saunters in your doggie door that the game warden is #1 on your speed dial.
PRO: When you live in a small town, you can hear the sound of birds singing in the trees.
CON: There’s this one nocturnal bird chirping very loudly in the tree outside your bedroom window...
PRO: There are always community groups to join – it’s a great way to get to know people.
CON: You missed the PTO meeting, but your neighbor just KNEW you’d want an exchange student.
PRO: You can pitch a tent in the back yard and have a camp-out when you live in a small town.
CON: You suddenly realize that you really are counting sheep – farm yard escapees.
PRO: Without the city lights, you can really see the stars in the night sky.
CON: The moon is shining so brightly that you have to wear sunglasses and SPF 30 to bed.
PRO: You enjoy a more peaceful slumber and wake up refreshed from the country air.
CON: The smell of bacon awakens you...bacon? Oh... just the Avon lady and the neighbor...again.
PRO: Springtime is beautiful in a small town – flowers and trees are blooming everywhere.
CON: At 8:00 p.m., the only drugstore is closed. You and your bulbous red nose wait until morning.
PRO: In a small town, you don’t have to put your name on a long waiting list at the beauty salon.
CON: The women and the poodles all look strangely similar: Etta’s Salon & Etta’s Dog Grooming.

You know you are not in the big city anymore when...
* you see cow patties & horse turds along all the main roads.
* you have to drive 5 miles to the first general store or gas station to use the phone.
* you breathe deeply & feel energized instead of feeling drained by the smog that has filled your lungs.
* you wake up in the morning to peace & quiet instead of traffic noises, other than the sound of those dang roosters crowing at 5 a.m.
Speaking of which, I swear my neighbour who lives behind me has just adopted a duck, a puppy & an orca 'cause I've been hearing quacking, a puppy yapping & a whale moaning for the last couple of days.

Should men and women live together?
Posted:
11/22/2009 12:40:33 PM
Maybe women and men should look for others of their own gender to make a happy contented home with?
Are ya trying to talk us all into becoming gay?
Not that there's anything wrong with it but I personally like my partner to come with a built-on stickshift.
Men & women were originally created to be with each other. I think that's the reason one sex cums with an 'innie' & the other cums with an 'outie'.
As far as living together, to each their own. Nobody makes rules for the relationship but the couple themselves. I am happiest when cohabiting with someone I am madly in love with who is also crazy about me, but I am in no rush to live with someone right now.
I would, however, like to find someone I can work with to build a relationship that would eventually lead to us living under the same roof as lifetime partners in crime.
P.S. Can I get in on that spanking?

I hope that people that belong to prayer groups (F&S) will put SSP on your prayers list. I know she would appreciate it.
Yuppers! I have already asked for her to be added to the list along with Spudster. I would have added her sooner had I known but she's not on my FB list & oddly enough, I haven't seen any comments on FB from our mutual POF friends about the accident. If you know of anyone else in dire need of prayer, feel free to message me anytime.
It's awesome to see the forums being used for some positive interaction to share 'real life' with each other & to help or support others in their down times. Thanks again for starting this thread & also to lovelylure for starting up the thread for Spud.

SSP, so sorry to hear about that accident & on your birthday too. I'd like to say that I'm glad that propane tank you were transporting didn't blow but I'm sure that won't help you feel any better right now but perhaps a bit thankful that someone was looking out for you. Haven't seen you since wings night at Guildford ended. My prayers & wishes for a complete recovery.

Penises
Posted:

Bewb thread allowed but penis thread not? Now that is sexism at it's finest!
15 Facts You Didn't Know About Your Penis
1. Smoking can shorten your penis by as much as a centimeter. Erections are all about good bloodflow, and lighting up calcifies blood vessels, stifling erectile circulation. So even if you don't care all that much about your lungs or dying young, spare the li'l guy.
2. Doctors can now grow skin for burn victims using the foreskins of circumcised infants. One foreskin can produce 23,000 square meters, which would be enough to tarp every Major League infield with human flesh.
3. An enlarged prostate gland can cause both erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. If you have an unexplained case of either, your doctor's looking forward to checking your prostate. Even if you're not.
4. The average male orgasm lasts 6 seconds. Women get 23 seconds. Which means if women were really interested in equality, they'd make sure we have four orgasms for every one of theirs.
5. The oldest known species with a penis is a hard-shelled sea creature called Colymbosathon ecplecticos. That's Greek for "amazing swimmer with large penis." Which officially supplants Buck Naked as the best porn name, ever.
6. Circumcised foreskin can be reconstructed. Movable skin on the shaft of the penis is pulled toward the tip and set in place with tape. Later, doctors apply plastic rings, caps, and weights. Years can pass until complete coverage is attained. . . . Okay, we'll shut up now.
7. Only one man in 400 is flexible enough to give himself oral pleasure. It's estimated, however, that all 400 have given it their best shot at some point.
8. There are two types of penises. One kind expands and lengthens when becoming erect (a grower). The other appears big most of the time, but doesn't get much bigger after achieving erection (a show-er).
9. An international Men's Health survey reports that 79 percent of men have growers, 21 percent have showers.
10. German researchers say the average intercourse lasts 2 minutes, 50 seconds, yet women perceive it as lasting 5 minutes, 30 seconds. Are we that good or that bad?
11. Turns out size does matter: The longer your penis, the better "semen displacement" you'll achieve when having sex with a woman flush with competing sperm. That's according to researchers at the State University of New York, who used artificial phalluses (ahem) to test the "scooping" mechanism of the penis's coronal ridge. Next up: curing cancer.
12. The penis that's been enjoyed by the most women could be that of King Fatefehi of Tonga, who supposedly deflowered 37,800 women between the years 1770 and 1784—that's about seven virgins a day. Go ahead, say it: It's good to be king.
13. Better-looking men may have stronger sperm. Spanish researchers showed women photos of guys who had good, average, and lousy sperm—and told them to pick the handsomest men. The women chose the best sperm producers most often.
14. No brain is necessary for ejaculation. (
) That order comes from the spinal cord. Finding a living vessel for said ejaculation, however, takes hours of careful thought and, often, considerable amounts of alcohol.
15. The most common cause of penile rupture: vigorous masturbation. Some risks are just worth taking.

how do you like your penises, if in fact you LIKE penises?
* I like 'em when they rise to the occasion whenever I'm around.
* I like 'em when they fill out the front of a tight pair of jeans.
* I like 'em clean, sweet-smelling & rigid.
* I like 'em not too straight & curved just enough to stroke that special spot.
* I like 'em in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening & during the night.
* I like 'em in my dreams & when I'm awake.
* I like 'em ... err ... cut or uncut? Umm ... let's keep ya guessing on that one.
* I like 'em hairless 'cause I prefer my dental floss mint flavoured.
* I like 'em when their names are B.O.B. but prefer the real thing.
* I like 'em big enough that you don't have to search through unshaved shrubbery to find them.
* I like how when they're standing straight out in front of you, you can whack 'em gently & they go BOING!!! Sort of like a cat batting a springy toy around.
* They're especially fun when you dunk 'em in icy water ... it's like watching slugs shrivel up when you sprinkle salt on 'em.

Chocolate Lovers - Whats the best???????

Classc, you have absolutely no self-discipline, do you girl? I bet your entire stash of Callebaut is gone & you didn't even share. Shameful ... utterly shameful!
But I bet I can top your piggery. Just wait 'til Costco comes out with those giant gift tins of Almond Roca for Christmas. There are at least two of them with my name on them.
MusicNMe ... Nope, not interested in partaking in an orgy myself either but just figured that if a bunch of Poffers got together for a chocolate fondue party, there is bound to be a lot of smearing & licking going on.
Sort of like the event where yogurt was spread all over several people & a few yogurt lovers were licking it off random body parts. Because I instigated the whole yogurt mania with my 'VALSCO' thread, I felt it was my duty to start the lickfest of course.
Don't like dark chocolate ... too bitter for my taste, although I am intrigued by that spicy chocolate & would love to try it. It's milk chocolate all the way for me ... any kind will do although my fave would be Cadbury Fruit 'n Nut bars & chocolate with wafers inside like Kit Kat. I love Bar Six & Lion bars but don't know if they're even available here ... think it's more of a British thing. Big Turks are another fave & chocolate filled with marzipan or caramel.
Ohhh ... Christmas is going to wickedly sinful & I will love every minute of it then deal with the consequences in the new year.

i wonder if balls sag like big boobs do with age??????
I had to bathe old men & wash those dang things when I worked as a nursing aide at a private hospital at the innocent age of 18. I can verify that balls do sag & very unsightly so. It usually starts when a guy is in his 50's & by the late 50's, most are droopy, wrinkled sacs.
The day women perfer overweight men is the day I will quit going to the gym and will be found sitting on my couch eating ho ho's and ding dongs ...... man I love ho ho's and ding dongs.
I think most people prefer their partner to have a well-toned, muscular build. But given the choice between a slim/skinny guy & a guy who is a l'il overweight, I will take the love handles any day. The extra padding makes for a comfier cuddle & guys have always told me that I'm much more fun to cuddle than skinny women ... but to each their own. So ... did you want company to go shop for those ho hos & ding dongs?

January Blues
Posted:
11/19/2009 5:26:05 PM
Sharing this story 'cause I hope it will help someone who is going through what I went through last winter.
All that winter blues stuff I have already shared in this thread that I went through last year, fatigue, sleeping too much, etc. ... well it kept building until I was sleeping 16-18 hours a day, sometimes without even waking up to go pee. I first noticed the depression, anxiety attacks & excessive sleep slowly building around October & it hit an all-time high by February. I knew something was drastically wrong since my normal sleep night is 6 hours, not 16 or 18 hours.
I've always been a cheerful, bubbly person so this new person wasn't me at all. The biggest challenge for me was going to my doctor & saying "I'm depressed & have no idea why". I also delayed going to see him because I didn't want anything on my medical record related to any sort of mental or emotional problems, but I realized whatever I was going through was destroying me.
So in I went to see my doc for the usual 5 min appt but he kept me in his office for 45 minutes 'cause I couldn't stop sobbing. He felt I was suicidal (I knew I wasn't) & brought me samples of anti-depressants & tried to get me to take them in his office while he was trying to figure out whether to refer me to a specialist or admit me into the hospital immediately for analysis. I refused to take the anti-depressants & told him I wanted a diagnosis & cure, not anti-depressants to bandaid over the real problem. Once he was convinced I wasn't suicidal, he set up an appt the next day with a specialist to figure out if my situation was mental, emotional, nutritional or due to a medical condition.
After a half hour of going over my symptoms with the specialist, he diagnosed me with a severe Vitamin D deficiency. He started me on 2000 units of Vit D at bedtime along with 700mg Calcium/Magnesium (for better absorption), plus 1/2 a sublingual Melatonin pill at 11 pm every night so I could fall asleep by midnight & to relieve PMS symptoms. In the morning, I was to take my usual concoction of vitamins & try to eat 3 small meals a day. I have survived on one meal & one snack a day since I was 14 yrs old, so eating 3 times a day wasn't going to happen but I forced myself to eat a handful of cereal with granola & nuts. He also told me to get even a small amount of exercise daily & keep all the lights on in my house.
3 days after starting this new treatment, my night sleep was back down to 6-7 hours, the depression, fatigue & anxiety attacks disappeared & I felt more cheerful than I had felt in 10 years. I almost felt like I was on some kind of uppers & life was just feeling great. I was able to handle crises, obstacles, arrogant & difficult people, etc. by thinking & speaking logically instead of reacting emotionally.
My specialist noticed the difference when I went back a week later. Instead of sobbing my heart out, as I did the first time he saw me, & saying "I have no idea why I'm crying but I can't stop", I was smiling, laughing & joking with him (my normal self) & he was tickled pink to see the difference in me in just a week.
He also said that most docs are too quick to hand out anti-depressants like candy as soon as they spot any sign of anxiety or depression & that probably half the people taking anti-depressants or sitting in psych wards, are just suffering from nutritional deficiencies & can be helped by the right balance of vitamins for their bodies. But there are some people out there who need anti-depressants & only a good specialist can judge what is best for your body.

FAS.. new red crotchless knickers and a case of yogurt. No I am not delivering it lol
Yay! More yogurt AND red crotchless knickers ... woohoo!!! Thanks Gourmand123!
Now I can replace my white crotchless knickers that got red & green dye stains from a giant candy cane one Christmas.
Do I get a matching bra with it? You know the kind with holes in the front that leaves the important bits exposed & accessible?
BE needs a teapot warmer… I don’t knit****warmers…sorry
Fine, then I will knit the d1ck warmers for all the guys on here but y'all have to email me with your length & girth measurements ... you know, just so I can make sure they fit just right.
For all the lovely ladies on here, I gift you with a weekend date on the tropical island of your choice with any poster of your choice ... now who would you choose ... hmm???

Snotsure: I think this year I will buy Funnyandsweet a whole lot of yogurt
Oh yay! A yogurt lube for Christmas ... just what I always wanted. May I suggest you buy
your
favourite flavour & personally stop by to ... err ... 'deliver' the yogurt? I love to share.
Speaking of knitted tea cozies ... one Christmas a friend's sister knitted all the men in her very large family 'd1ck warmers'. She made her husband an extra long one that hung down his leg & said that's because she had asked Santa for 'a few more inches' for Christmas. LOL! Most of the guys dropped their drawers, slipped them on & did the whole runway fashion show thing. That was the funniest Christmas ever!

Groooaaan ... I hate gift shopping for people I don't know well. Men are especially difficult to buy for unless you've been together for a while & know their taste. For Valentine's Day, anniversaries, etc. I prefer that we just go out for dinner at a nice restaurant, maybe take in a play or concert, go dancing, etc. & just spend a nice evening together.
In my past relationships, my b/f has purchased gifts for his family, added my name to the gifts & given them out from both of us. I also purchased the gifts for my family & added his name to the gift as well. I like this system best.
If there's a large family get-together that I'm invited to, I usually buy a bunch of lottery scratch tickets & hand one out to each person. In a smaller get-together, I often buy those $5 Starbucks Christmas gift cards & give one to each person. If they don't drink coffee or tea, they can use them for hot chocolate so even kids can use them.
Whenever in doubt, play it safe & give gift cards for restaurants or stores you know the person likes. If they drink, liquor store gift cards come in handy. If in doubt buy a 'mall' gift card that can be used at all the stores & restaurants in a popular mall; i.e. Coquitlam Centre, Lougheed Mall, etc. Attach the gift card to a bottle of wine or box of chocolates if you like giving a wrapped gift.

I like how many places now have the purell stuff when you enter. when i go i purell my hands and squirt some on the napkin and wipe the handles of the cart.
Oh good. Now I don't feel like I'm the only one who is paranoid about handling the bacteria-ladened handles of shopping carts then touching the produce & other foods I'm buying with snot & poop bacteria on my hands. I always clean my hands with the antibacterial foam then clean off the handles & top shelf of my shopping cart where I often put my purse. I also disinfect the straps & bottom of my purse regularly.
I shop at Safeway, even when I know it's more expensive.
Safeway is right across the street from me but I rarely shop there because of the higher prices & because they don't carry some of my regular grocery items. Also the last time I bought a variety of fruit from that store, it was all bland & tasteless. Even the bananas didn't taste like bananas & got tossed out. I should have brought it all back to them in hindsight & gotten my money back. I think there's a good reason why the produce end of that store is always empty while the deli & bakery end is always busy.
Stupidstore drives me crazy 'cause you can never find a CSR to help you out; our local store also has that ridiculous ramp that so many people dislike. I'll stick to Save-On & Costco where I've shopped for the last 20+ years. Great customer service & I know where everything is so it's faster to shop.

Doin' it with socks or shoes on

Honey if you're slipping off, you might wanna try a little Extenzzzz...
LOL! I'm with Anicca on this one. If you keep slipping off or 'out' too often then I would suggest a lengthening, be it Extenzzz or a surgical extension. I have a friend who gained close to 2 inches from the surgery & has made his g/fs very happy since then ... no slippage there!
If that doesn't work, you could always use surgical spreaders to hold labia & butt cheeks apart ... oops! wrong thread.
Sex in bed, in a romantic, sensual or sexy atmosphere ... lingerie only, definitely no socks allowed. Sex that is spontaneous, impromptu, quickie, outdoors or in other odd places, there isn't usually time to whip it all off so shoes & socks are cool. Just expose the important parts & go at it. If you're standing on a slippery floor though, I'd opt for bare feet or keep the shoes on 'cause socks on slippery floors can cause one to lose one's balance & topple over, resulting in coitus interruptus & possibly a trip to the E.R.

Nope, she's not the bandcamp 'flute in the chute' girl. Yes, she got her fame after 'American Pie' but she was on Saved By the Bell & Days of our Lives ... also in several movies.

A sexually active woman tells her plastic surgeon that she wanted her vaginal lips reduced in size because they were too loose and floppy. Out of embarrassment she insisted that the surgery be kept a secret and the surgeon agreed.
Awakening from the anesthesia after the surgery she found 3 roses carefully placed beside her on the bed. Outraged, she immediately calls in the doctor - "I thought I asked you not to tell anyone about my operation!"
The surgeon told her he had carried out her wish for confidentiality and that the first rose was from him: "I felt sad because you went through this all by yourself."
"The second rose is from my nurse. She assisted me in the surgery and empathized because she had the same procedure done some time ago" And what about the third rose?" she asked.
"That's from a man upstairs in the burn unit. He wanted to thank you for his new ears."

What to do with old wedding rings?
Posted:
11/14/2009 4:38:27 AM
Walked by a jewellery case at the store with my fiancé looking for engagement & wedding rings. Lots of gorgeous rings but nothing grabbed my attention until I saw this one ring. I said, while laughing, "OMGosh! You have to see this ring. It totally looks like E.T. What a wacky design!" Well, E.T. ring sat on my finger for 15 years along with my wedding ring. Nothing fancy or pricey ... just very unique.
I didn't know what to do with it after the divorce so I stuck it in my safety deposit box. Getting rid of it didn't seem right, after all it was gifted to me in good spirit during good times. My ex asked if he could keep his ring for sentimental value too. I still have a small but pretty Birks platinum diamond engagement ring that my first b/f gave me. He didn't want it back after we broke off the engagement ... don't know what to do with it other than appreciate the sentimental value.
I sort of believe that jewellery retains the energy & spirit of the person who wore it so I don't like wearing used jewellery. I think that when it gets melted down & altered into something else, it 'refreshes' the metal, so I might do that one day as I have lots of broken & intact 22+ gold pieces that I will never wear, some mine & some my moms. Like someone else mentioned, I sort of see it as my 'Emergency Fund'.

^^^I think the Superstore in Pitt Meadows has a self-serve checkout.
I don't know which other stores around the Lower Mainland have them too.

As another poster mentioned, the machine has no way of telling the difference between various types of apples so one could buy a more expensive apple & punch in the code/price for a cheaper apple. And then you have those who will scan a bulk bag of an expensive item & punch in the code for a cheaper item instead to get it for a lesser price.
I had a chat with someone who did this about the dishonesty of it, the fact that if everyone did this the store would have to jack up their prices to make up for their losses so we would ALL end up paying more for groceries, not to mention the risk of being caught. In order to prevent this sort of deception, the store would have to post a security person at each of these automatic checkouts so they might as well stick to having a cashier & bagger.
But, yes, for those who are honest & only have a few items, it can be more convenient if you don't have those error messages popping up which can create an even longer line-up while the shopper tries to resolve the problem. I had to wait until a customer service person came & punched in a code to eliminate the error message so I could continue scanning & people behind me were getting annoyed. I prefer having the full customer service for a no stress shopping experience.

Organ donation - Opt-in or Opt-out?
Posted:

I'm getting visions of horror movies coming to life with us being forced to give up free choice of whether to donate or not.
I see automatic harvesting as a new source of income for doctors. I can see some of the unscrupulous ones accepting payment under the table to schedule patients for unnecessary surgery to remove healthy kidneys, portions of their liver & other organs under the pretense that the organ is causing their illness, in order to pass the organ onto those who have the bucks & need transplants.
Or even giving patients meds to make them appear terminal, talking the families into donating their organs, then pulling the plug just to gain that patient's organs for transplant in exchange for a new form of "blood money".
Then there are those with some surgical knowledge, possibly those who have barred from practicing medicine, who might enter the underground business of harvesting organs from the homeless or others who are desperate for cash & selling their organs via illegal channels to those desperate enough to pay for said organs.
Yuppers! Horror movies coming to real life indeed.

^^^Yup, agree that the steam mop would not be healthy for wood floors, but it works great on ceramic tile, linoleum, vinyl tile flooring, concrete garage floors, etc. There is a steam mop that comes with a handheld attachment that can be used to steam dirt & grease off kitchen surfaces, car engines, etc. You can also steam curtains & clothing with it.

all season vs all weather tires - who knew there was a difference?
Posted:
11/5/2009 1:30:45 AM
Some people use all season tires throughout the year, winter included. I have always felt safer sticking winter tires on my car during the snowy months & have done this since I started driving in snow in the late 80's.
I've always used four winter tires on my vehicles but someone said this was now mandatory. I was also advised to purchase four identical tires with the same tread pattern to keep the traction of all the tires uniform. Apparently, using a different pair of tires on the front & the rear could cause braking & steering problems.
Many people who grew up in colder climates where they had to drive in a lot more snow than we get here, claim to know how to drive in the snow properly so they don't need winter tires. However, I have been in the vehicle with some of these people when they lost control & skidded or couldn't get unstuck. But even after near misses, once they had recovered from the initial scare, these 'die-hards' still insisted they were good with all season tires & didn't need winters.
After seeing cars skidding across the road & sliding into other cars, trees, ditches, rolled over, etc., I'd rather play it safe & stick to four winter tires or if the road conditions are treacherous, I'll stay home under a warm blanky with a mug of hot chocolate instead.

When I moved into my new place this spring, my sis bought me a steam mop as a housewarming gift. I love it. You fill the little tank up with water, plug it in & it washes & disinfects the floors with hot steam. Anything that is dried or caked onto the floors gets softened by the hot steam & mops right up.
The thick terry towel attachments that velcro onto the head can be rinsed out in the sink then tossed into the laundry. My sis has the original model with the triangle head on it but she got me the one with the rectangular head which fits into smaller & tighter spots better.
I don't know how this differs from the Swiffer Wetjet but I look forward to mopping my floors now.

* No workaholics, no alcoholics, no smokers/druggies, no gambling holics, no anger management problems, no players. Sheesh! Why is that so impossible to find?
* The ability to gab together for hours on end & still never run out of things to talk about, but at the same time, being comfortable doing & saying nothing but just enjoying each other's presence.
* Someone who has what it takes to be my best male friend, companion & confidante.
* A witty, smartass sense of humour is a must. I will die in a relationship without laughter.
* Non-judgmental, non-critical with a sensitive, kind & caring spirit towards humans & animals.
* Similar interests in movies, food preferences & other activities.
* The patience & endurance to go through the ups & downs of life together without bailing out at the first sign of disagreement or crisis.
* Good personal hygiene.
* A guy who can keep up with my sex drive, knows how to work my body until I'm begging him to stop & enjoys the fringe benefits that will be reciprocated.
* Above all, a deep love & commitment because when you care enough about a person to give them those two things, a whole lot of other good stuff will happen within the relationship & all those trivial things that used to bother you about each other won't mean diddly anymore.

The M Word - Marriage
Posted:

I very rarely browse profiles or check out the 'viewed me' guys unless someone contacts me directly or adds me to their faves. But I went hunting for that marriage search thingy & checked it out. WWR, you are so right about most of the marriage-minded men on there wanting to make babies. POF should create a separate marriage search for those seeking a permanent commitment but who are all done with baby-making.
A poffer friend is 60 & just married a 38 yr old 'cause he wants to start making more babies. Oy vey!!! Who's got the energy to start raising kids all over again at that age! This is the time for grandchildren 'cause you get to play with them then give them back when their diapers are poopy or when they've drained every ounce of your energy.
Looking back, I realize that I've always been happiest when in a committed long-term relationship. I'm not in any rush to get married a.s.a.p. but I don't want to spend the rest of my life doing the superficial casual dating thing either. There are an awful lot of long-term or marriage-minded guys who are players underneath those words & the guys who initially appeared to be the right ones have had serious addictions that they didn't disclose.
I'm still hanging onto the hope that there's one out there for me, maybe on POF, maybe not. I would like to settle down with someone to enjoy this era of life with, then age gracefully together 'til death do us part & all that silly romantic mush.
How does POF determine whether you are "marriage-minded" or not anyway? Has anyone seen me on the marriage-minded searches? Curious to know if I'm on there or not. Hmm .....

Organ donation - Opt-in or Opt-out?
Posted:
11/3/2009 12:41:30 PM
It covers heart transplants only and how the recipient gets strong urges to be like the donor. I wonder if the same type of memory transfer occurs with other organs?
I've heard about this before, where the recipient of the organ had so many thoughts, emotions & memories flooding them that weren't theirs. It was so overwhelming that they made efforts to contact the deceased person's family to ask about their life before death, in order to better understand what they were feeling. I'm guessing if someone was brain dead & could receive the brain of another person, that would make life quite interesting for the family of the person receiving the new brain. There might be some wonderful memories & skills there but also some that might be a nightmare to live with. Scary yet fascinating!
I had listed my organs down for both transplant & medical research. Then I met a friend's b/f who was in med school & heard all the nutty stories about all the gags that medical students pull using donated bodies & body parts. Decided nah, I don't want my parts disrespected even after I bugger off & leave my body behind so I will donate them for transplant only. However, my guess is that when my body rolls in & they see that I'm an organ donor, they'll just laugh their azzes off at the ridiculousness of me thinking that someone would actually want my worn & rusty innards.
I can see the logic of establishing automatic consent of organ donation, due to so many people not having bothered to make this decision & not taking this dire need seriously. However, I don't like the idea of an organization or governmental body making decisions about my body & possibly being able to overrule my family's feelings about this.

Organ donation - Opt-in or Opt-out?

^^^I was just discussing the substitution of a tattoo instead of a medical I.D. bracelet with someone recently, but some medical conditions can improve or be completely cured, which would then leave you with a tat that you would have to get removed immediately. Otherwise, in an emergency situation, you could be treated for a condition you no longer have which could have detrimental results.
I like the idea of having an 'organ donor' tattoo but are you expecting this to be a service funded by the government/medical services plan or is each individual responsible for paying for their own tattoo? Will the public health dept. have to hire tattoo artists for this purpose? And what if you change your mind about being an organ donor or switch to a religion (through marriage or choice) that doesn't allow organs to be removed from the deceased? Again, one would have to pay for removal of the tattoo.
There will obviously have to be a standard location on the body & a standard design for an 'organ donor' tattoo so medical staff will be able to locate it easily without having to do a full body search. But what if you already have a tattoo in that exact location? Also to keep the design identical, maybe they should just come up with factory issue branding irons with the "Organ Donor" design on them & have us all line up like cattle to be branded.

You forgot to include your female friends in this statement.
I'm not going to wander into this conversation too much because I could easily stick my foot into my mouth & ML will have to give me another lecture on how not to be too open & honest & to speak in general terms.
But I agree with Anicca & Dan on this. I don't have daughters, but as a mom of two young adult boys, I worry about them being assaulted & yes, raped when they take public transit alone late at night. As Dan did with his daughter, I too have had talks with my boys about being cautious when alone with men who are strangers to them especially late at night when few people are around to come to their rescue. Just like I taught them to look both ways before crossing the street & not to believe strangers who ask for help to find their missing pet & to avoid swimming in unsafe areas & to wear a condom, etc. etc. etc.

Housekeeping??? Vacuuming ... check. Dishes ... check. Dusting ... check. Litter ... err ... box cleaned out & area all around it tidied up.
Taboo action pics & videos only to be taken & viewed by long-term partners. No cam play for me, thank you very much. I prefer live, one-one-one action.
you just may be camming with your best friend's mom...
Can't remember the name of the thread but I posted a conversation I had with a 23 year old dude on here who was telling me how hawt & sexy I was & begging me to go out with him. He wanted to cam but I told him I didn't have one. He wouldn't take no for an answer & I eventually told him I couldn't go out with him 'cause my son would kill him. He was stumped & asked why. I said 'cause my son doesn't like his buddies hitting on his mom. I had recognized him from my son's pics on another popular site. The kid begged me not to tell my son, apologized repeatedly, then asked if it was still ok to come over to our house to hang out with my son.
I did the MSN chat thing a couple of years ago when I signed up here but soon realized that most of the guys had an ulterior motives & they kept sending me pics via MSN to try & tempt me. Apparently the pics auto-saved to a folder on my computer because when my techie friend & I were working on the computer we stumbled onto a folder with a variety of pics that were sent to me via MSN ... some clothed but others of muscular arms & torsos, six-pack abs, close-up erections, etc. I had some explaining to do to convince the guy that I wasn't a porn addict.

Falling through the cracks with boosters

^^^Sorry to hear about your mom.
The website I provided in my above post also provided similar information to the one you listed. It also said that this vaccine only covers the more common 23 out of 80 strains of Pneumococcal bacteria out there. I figured the shots were required every 5-10 years because by then, the current bacteria would likely have mutated & the newer vaccine will hopefully have been improved to cover the newer strains of this bacteria.
For anyone who is considering getting this shot, I had no negative reactions to it, not even redness or swelling in the area of the shot, whereas with the flu shot I usually get a low-grade fever, sore arm & feel unwell for a day or two.

After a month-long recovery from the flu & pneumonia, my doc recommended I get the Pneumococcal bacterial shot because I am predisposed to getting pneumonia whenever I get the flu. The nurse said that this vaccine is only given for no charge to those who have serious illnesses or autoimmune deficiencies.
I was informed that the bacterial pneumonia shot is good for 5 - 10 years at which point I would need to get it again. However, BE's sources said that it provides lifetime protection. Why the discrepancy? So I looked it up & here's what it said:
Persons vaccinated prior to age 65 should be vaccinated at age 65 if five or more years have passed since the first dose. For people with lack of spleen function (such as in sickle cell disease or after spleen removal), transplant patients, patients with chronic kidney disease, immunosuppressed or immunodeficient persons, and others at highest risk of fatal infection, a second dose should be given at least five years after first dose."
http://www.medicinenet.com/pneumococcal_vaccination/page2.htm
I agree that vaccinations, surgeries, etc. should all be linked with our BC Medical records. What if you're seriously ill or unconscious & can't provide the info to them? Anytime I have to undergo a medical procedure, I have to rack my brain trying to remember what surgeries I've had. When I receive an injury, the hospital or doc's office always asks me when my last Tetanus shot was. Hell if I can remember! They don't always give you the slip of paper with the vaccination info & if I forget to ask for it then I don't have a record of my shots. My kids have health passports & I think all adults should have them too.

I was under the impression that posting rules in the forums would not allow a thread title that includes "all men" ... but what do I know.
Surprised that everyone is so hung up on physical rape & that noone has brought up the topic of emotional, psychological or situational rape yet. I have experienced all these forms of rape & find the non-physical rapes can have more of a long-lasting impact on one's life. Just saying .....

The tolerant and the less-tolerant
Posted:
10/28/2009 5:50:02 PM
People have the right to express their opinion, but opinions are not facts. Facts can be backed up with references.
I think opinions without references out of a book can also be facts. You have the opinion that has stemmed from how a person thinks or feels about a particular topic, which is an opinion or point of view. Then you have the opinion which comes from the person having first-hand knowledge from having personally witnessed or experienced the subject of the topic, which then makes it fact even though there is no documentation to prove that it is indeed fact.
Take an event that several reliable people have witnessed & have them document the "facts" about that event for reference purposes. No two will be identical. So then, which documented reference from these reliable sources can be considered factual? They are probably all factual with minor variables so who gets to decide which person's rendition of the event will go into the book as a reference source?
So you're looking for someone to prove their opinion with a reference source, but don't all the facts from those references originate from someone's personal experience & opinion?
On topic ... I think most people are a blend of tolerant & intolerant. I consider myself to be quite tolerant & sometimes too tolerant when I care deeply about someone. However, I will stick to my guns when it comes to the things I feel strongly about.

What's up with the BBD (Bigger Better Deal)?
Posted:
10/26/2009 10:05:20 PM
The BBD is a difficult subject and eventually people have to decide when to stop looking.
Communication is top priority & both partners have to make this decision together. You can't have him wondering & her wondering instead of sharing their thoughts with each other. It comes pretty easy for me because I find it easy to be open & honest about pretty much any subject. There is no uneasiness about discussing what our status is or how we feel about each other, however, many are not as comfortable bringing up the topic or sharing their innermost feelings with someone they haven't known that long.
I think most people should know by the 2nd date whether it's a go or not. If we've spent many hours on the phone chatting, sometimes a relationship is already established & the first date is just a formality. It's just a matter of associating this new person with the person we've been chatting with on the phone. Doesn't take long 'cause my personality & humour usually puts people at ease very quickly, not just in the dating scene but in other situations as well.
The vows says for better or for worse...not if something better comes along or if things don't work out...
If I could have a dollar for each time I've said this to someone, I'd be rolling in millions on some romantic tropical island, hopefully with a guy who feels the same way. Oh wait Dan! You feel the same way. So will ya marry me?
Heartfelt apologies to all those other guys I've proposed to on the forums in the past. I know I've shattered your dreams.

Narrow mindedness
Posted:
10/25/2009 8:13:44 PM
If I'm in a discussion with someone & it's obvious we have a difference of opinion on a topic, if I see that the discussion is beginning to turn into an argument or a battle of who is right & who is wrong, I usually say, "Let's just agree to disagree & move on to another topic". That's the only civil way out of that situation IMO.
A narrow-minded person in a similar discussion would not give up that easily. They will share their point of view & (1) either interrupt to dismiss the other person's point of view as being wrong, or (2) allow the person to finish sharing their viewpoint but then argue why the other person's opinion is wrong & theirs is right. They might hold steadfastly onto their 'proof', be it a book, a doctrine or whatever. They are unwilling to accept that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion & whether they feel the other person's view is right or wrong is not the point.
A narrow-minded person has tunnel vision. To them there is only one way ... their way. IMO ...

how many threads?
Posted:
10/25/2009 5:14:11 PM
I left the forums late spring 2008 because I was being unreasonably harassed by an angry & mean-spirited "forum bully" & it took the fun away from playing on here. I returned briefly in Nov 2008 & this person started at me again & I left because I dislike conflict & angry people. Someone told me this person was permanently banned from the forums during my absence & someone else said permanently banned from POF.
I made another brief return early this year only to find that there was so much discord between certain posters on many threads & one poster in particular seemed to be monopolizing nearly every thread, vying for attention. The lightheartedness, fun & humour were gone & because I come to the forums for entertainment & to get away from the stress of everyday life, I wanted no part of this argumentative bunch so I left again.
I returned about a month ago & while there are still some feisty individuals on here who seem to enjoy creating or participating in conflict, the spirit of the forums seems to have lightened up & the fun, witty banter that I enjoy has returned. There is one person in particular who is downright verbally abusive to other posters & even newbies, who don't deserve to be attacked & spoken to in that manner. Sometime I sit here completely stunned after reading those posts & wonder why this person hasn't been reported & banned from the forums yet. Is it because of popularity? Perhaps this person is dating a mod? Or has many friends on the forums? I don't know but it baffles me that someone can bash posters so harshly on a regular basis & get away with it.
You never know what you're going to stumble upon when you return to this forum after an absence.

how many threads?
Posted:
10/25/2009 2:27:00 AM
Taking this back to the original topic:
"have u killed by ur dumbass comments?"
"Edit: for the newbs ... making some dumbass comment... and then u never hear from that thread again"
Yeah I've been the last to post on several threads but since we all know that I never make dumbass comments,
I just figured that my words were so intelligent that there weren't any posters on here qualified enough to top what I had said.
I don't think my posts have caused the deletion of any threads, although my "Vag1nas are like self-cleaning ovens" thread a.k.a. "yogurt douche cooch momma" thread that we had so much fun with, doesn't show up in any archive searches so I'm not sure if it was deleted or is just buried waaay back. Not too long ago, someone discovered it by accident & revived it for a day or two but the newbies weren't as humoured by it as the long-term Poffers were, so it fizzled out.
As
gstringer
said, those were the days when the threads were more light-hearted. Posters didn't get all petty about witty comments made about them then report the posts to the mods & get fun threads deleted, unless it was a serious case of harassment or a flame war happening. There weren't as many catfights or dogfights on the threads. People weren't so quick to judge others harshly or click "delete this thread" just because they felt like it, so a lot of fun & nutty threads got a chance to live for pages & pages. Mods didn't slam the gavel down quite so quickly. Yup, those were the days.

Not just any old kind of Ear Ache???
Posted:
10/25/2009 12:32:21 AM
I felt fluid come of out my ear and looked there was blood as well. I did the debate of do I go to the ER
No debating on this one. Anytime you find blood oozing out of orifices that it shouldn't be, head to the E.R. immediately & don't wait 'til morning. It could be a symptom of a more serious or life-threatening problem.
The pressure in your ears is likely because of the fluid build-up in your middle ear. If you're getting a discharge, then the fluid is leaking out of your middle ear. In my experience with ear infections for myself & my eldest son who used to get them all the time, the fluid starts leaking out when the pressure in the middle ear causes your ear drum to pop & spring a leak. Normally the drum heals on it's own.
Stay on the antibiotics & the antihistamines. The pressure should ease up as your ear heals. Keep an eye on the fluid & let the doc know if it starts to thicken & get yellow like pus because that means the fluid in your middle ear has become infected & your doc may decide to put you on stronger antibiotics if it appears that the amoxicillin isn't working efficiently.
I had my tonsils & adenoids removed when I was 19 ... best thing I ever did 'cause I don't get those awful sore throats anymore. As soon as I walked into the ENT's office, he said, "You need surgery to remove your adenoids & I bet you snore, don't you?". I just stared at him blankly 'cause he hadn't even examined me yet. He explained that he could hear me coming down the hall because my breathing was so heavy & it wasn't because he was so cute.
Gawwwwd, was he ever drop dead gorgeous though. And when he slid his chair right up to me, straddled my legs with his & brought his face up close to mine to look up my nostrils, I could smell his hair & skin. I wonder if he felt the heat emanating from my pores. If I had been older & bolder I would have kissed him right there. That was the start of a crush that lasted several years ... ohhhhh the fantasies.
Shortly after that, my ears plugged up on the ride down from Grouse Mountain & I had to go back to see the ENT again. (Honestly, it wasn't because I was looking for an excuse to get close to him again.
) Normally ears clear up on their own but this time they didn't & antihistamines didn't help. The pressure in my ears got worse & I started having hearing problems. He put me on antibiotics because the liquid in my middle ears had become infected & had turned to pus.
I also had to go to the hospital for 'plug installation'. The worst part was getting the anaesthetic inside my ear ... several people had to hold me down while sticking the needle into my ear. When it was frozen, they popped a hole in each ear drum/middle ear & suctioned all the infected fluid out. The volume of the suctioning was more deafening than you could imagine. Then he stuck l'il plastic plugs into each hole to keep them open so the remaining fluid could drain out. The plugs were supposed to fall out on their own in about 4 months when the holes closed up but they didn't so I had to see him again
to have them removed. I had to q-tip my ears regularly to keep the fluid away for months. Ever since then, if I don't q-tip my ears after each shower or swim, the fluid crackles in my ear & drives me nuts.
Hoping the above info might be helpful to others as well.

has anyone here tryed those extendzzzzzz pills
Nope, I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps you could enlighten me on exactly what part of me would be extended if I decided to try it.
My belief in the attendance at a POF function is that EVERY guy should dance with/talk with EVERY gal...just get brave and CIRCULATE!
I agree, but I think those who are dating but still attending events should wear some sort of "I'm spoken for" I.D. I also think there should be some sort of universal I.D. for people who are single & looking, so that when they're out running errands, socializing with friends, etc. anyone who is interested will know they're on the market & will feel more comfortable approaching them to chat & see if there's any connection. How many times have you seen someone while grocery-shopping that peaked your interest but you didn't approach them because you didn't know if they were single & available?

your msg 15 ... I completely agree with everything you've said. It's refreshing to hear this coming from a guy 'cause whenever I've brought it up with anyone, I was told that only insecure people would feel uncomfortable with their partner continuing to play on POF. This is a dating site & when you are no longer on the market & have found someone who captures your interest, then it's time to focus on that. IMO, if people in relationships play on dating sites or even attend singles events, they are playing with fire ... IMO that is.
My b/f of 6 years & I attended those parents without partners dances a few times. We were there only because there was an awesome band playing & we danced only with each other, but the minute he left my side for the washroom or up to the bar to get us drinks, several guys who had been eyeballing me throughout the evening, would rush over & start hounding me for my phone # or asking me to dance. (Yes, I told them I was in a relationship & turned them down.) My b/f had women hitting on him too but I know he was 100% committed to me & never accepted any offers from them. But there are many relationships that are sitting in vulnerable positions & open to indiscretions.
I know several people who remained on dating sites after they had met their partners, some with their partner's knowledge & some without. One engagement was broken as a result & the other marriage/live-in relationships continued but the trust was lost. This is a real life scenario btw. While many couples are able to make it work, there is always a risk involved. For me personally, if I meet someone who makes my heart soar, I will treasure my partner & our relationship & not take any risks to damage or lose what we have.

In what environment do you get most creative?

In my dreams ... I wake up with inspiring thoughts & race to my computer to get it all down before I forget. When I can't remember it all, I force myself to get back to sleep hoping to collect the missing details.
When I'm reading the forums ... I often stumble upon something that will trigger a memory & the thoughts will flow faster than I can type.
When I'm sitting amidst the beauty of nature ... someplace serene, listening to the sound of rushing creeks, babbling brooks, ocean waves, leaves blowing in the wind, the scampering feet of squirrels & chirping of birds, even the sounds of thunder or rain. That's when I am inspired to write, whether it's poetry or just about life.
In bed with the right man ... oh yeah!!!

hopefully he is exploring you fully
... likes to be filled with my man's 'exploration'.
but in all honesty, I have enough friends and it's all about finding my best friend.
Likewise. The question of what to stick in that box (
) is what is your end goal? My end goal is to find my best friend, a together forever lifetime mate, so I put down long-term. Yes, I know that you have to start with dating & friendship first, but I personally think that box was not meant to indicate where your starting point is but what you were seeking when you came to this site.
Dating? If I see 'dating' on a profile, then I assume the guy has no interest in a long-term relationship & just enjoys dating different women, which many do, unless he specifically mentions in his profile that he hopes to find long-term.
Friendship? I didn't sign onto this site to find more friends because I have POF (Plenty of Friends). However, if I end up meeting people by chance who end up as friends, which I have, then that's a bonus. But my main goal is still to find that one ... just one for a long-term commitment.

^^^I actually watched all of the Redd Foxx youtube clips to find the specific one I was referring to but couldn't find it on there. Much of his jokes have been repeated by other comedians but the particular segment I was thinking about, I haven't heard before & had me ROFLMAO in tears.
Some of the women that wash less often can be more flavorful.
Don't know if you were joking about this or not but I have dated & been in relationships with guys who requested that I not wash or change my undies for 2-3 days then give them my undies to take home with them.
Also some guys develop voracious appetites when having sex with unwashed 'day old' women.
Hey, whatever turns their crank but I find it hard not to shower daily & put on fresh clothes & I always freshen up the important bits during the day when I'm with a partner.

I think we've all been faced with the same dilemma where you've had 2-3 dates with someone, think there might be long-term potential but it's too early to tell & too early to change your status on your profile. Your morals & value system won't allow you to date others, yet you don't want to turn them away because what if you end up turning away the one for you?
I am up front with everyone & tell them that I've just started seeing someone & until I know whether it will work out or not, I can't date anyone else. In most cases, the guys will suggest I add them to my favourites & contact them if my present situation doesn't work out.
I caught onto a few guys who were doing the BBD scene while dating me, hoping that we would turn into a long-term relationship but at the same time continuing to chat with other women so they'd have back-ups in case 'we' didn't work out. That pretty much told me how invested they were in us & about their characters. I don't believe you can truly focus on getting to know the person you're dating & have any chance at building a relationship with them if you have others on the back burner that you're chatting with at the same time. If I discover that the guy I'm seeing is doing this, he's history ... pretty simple really.
The only good relationship I had through POF was with a guy who decided he wasn't even going to log into POF at all after our first date (a relationship was imminent before we even met). Although he said he didn't mind if I stayed on POF because he knew I loved the forums & trusted me, I really had no desire for the site for the duration of our relationship.
I know there will be some who disagree with me but yes, I do believe that online dating sites can be addictive & can lead to the destruction of healthy relationships. I've seen it happen to friends & acquaintances when their partners couldn't let go of the site even after they had committed to a relationship. We are a greedy society & enough never seems to be enough for some.
Remember when we were young & would bump into someone by chance & end up dating them? We didn't continue searching but placed our focus on that one relationship. Dating was so much simpler then. Sigh .....
