Socialism...why so much support on the threads?

Truth is there does not exist a purely capitalist government on the planet.
Even the capitalist United States falls under what is called a "Blended Socialism". Any state that offers protection of any sort for the general populace, even if grossly inadequate, is considered a "Blended Socialism". Think of Unemployment Insurance.
Just the same there is also no purely Socialist government on the planet, and there has NEVER been a pure Communist state either.
It is all a matter of misdirection and confusion designed to be used as labels to slander political opponents as well as other nations.

I use FIDO with the Canada Unlimited Plan... $70 a month, no PCS fee and ALL calls are free. The plan includes 850 minutes of long distance. I default to Rogers network here, but so far the coverage is pretty good and getting better all the time. Fido seems to have the best customer service of all the providers. If you go on EBAY the Canada Unlimited Plan can sometimes be purchased from someone who wants to get rid of it...unfortunately, this plan is no longer available. I liked FIDO before I got this plan. Now I won't use anyone else. They also let me change my phone number from a 514 to a 902 at NO CHARGE. Great customer service.

Why are Dems/Libs/Leftists against tax cuts?
Posted:

Ben we both agree that the system as it is contains many injustices.
I know that minimum wage is a bad thing for the poor as it artificially creates unemployment. One thing that I am sure we can agree on is that the public sector is well known to be inefficient relative to the private sector. If you consider that the government setting a minimum wage is involvement in the job market, perhaps you can see that it may also be considered inefficient.
The way the system works right now we cannot do away with minimum wage. But we do need to restructure the system to provide equal opportunities to all citizens regardless of economic, religious, racial or other background...criminal backgrounds are a different story of course.
Providing we can acheive this, the minimum wage will no longer be necessary.

Ok Tim...I will accept that we both were obnoxious towards each other...
There is no sinister plot to make the rich richer, conversely there isn't a sinister plot to make them poorer either.
Although I agree that there is no sinister plot. The income gap has been widening dramatically in the US for the last 20 years. In otherwords, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. It is a fact that is available to those that wish to do the research, but is not often published in the mainstream media. Even though in Canada we have tried to narrow the gap (eliminating it is a BAD IDEA), it is still growing somewhat. There have been periods where we were able to narrow the gap, notably under Pierre Elliot Trudeau.
The one group who does suffer the most from the income gap increasing is the middle class. So in a sense it is not that the poor are getting poorer, it's more a case of the middle class becoming poor and thusly the poor increasing in numbers. These great tax cuts that presidents like Bush (both of them) and others have put in place serve to remove many from the middle class and reduce them to being poor.
It is tough to understand, I know, it took me 3 years of study to truly begin to understand it. So this is not an insult directed at anyone, it is simply the truth. Economics is a very difficult subject to grasp, to fully understand it takes years of work.

Please, dust off your BA and demonstrate to me how that increase in minimum wage improved my standard of living.... better still demonstrate how that standard of living was not reduced!
Perhaps you missed the part of my post where I clearly stated that I am not in favour of minimum wage. I won't bore you nor confound you with the mathematics of it. You can however lookup any number of sources that will educate you on the reasons that minimum wage has a long term negative effect on the poor, just as does rent control. There are many sources you can find. I will let you do that work yourself, as you seem so intent on discrediting me.

Again with the insults.... great way to drive home the validity of your position!
Minimum wage IS a precept of socialism; in that it dupes the ignorant into believing they have somehow gained economic ground and as a by-product elevated social standing. Clearly the concept of increased costs in manufacturing / production of goods equates to increased costs to consumers eludes you … perhaps you were absent the day they taught economics in Economics class
Of course Tim...I skipped all 21 economics courses and all the accompanying classes that comprised my BA Specialization in Economics. I particularly skipped Advanced Macro and Advanced Micro Economic theory, I also skipped Labour Economics as well. Which is miraculous as I seem to remember having a 3.5 GPA in my core courses. I guess Economics is so easy that not only can everyone understand it, but noone needs to study it or attend classes to pass the final examinations.
Funny how you would not aruge against a minimum wage. I guess you don't really understand Economics as you seem to think you do. I am not in favour of minimum wage, rent control or any other devices that interfere with the market setting an appropriate price.
Socialism DOES NOT advocate a minimum wage. It advocates advancement of the population through education, healthcare, public works and environmental protection, all the while allowing the market to set the appropriate prices for goods and services.
The advantage of not separating Economics from Political Science is being able to see this for what it really means. Unfortunately, too many schools have decided that the two subjects are separable.
I don't see anywhere in the title of this thread that it is specifically or uniquely a question posed to Americans about American policy. Perhaps you need to reread the title.
You also do your fair share of veiled insults Tim...I have seen some of them, and you have just directed one at me as well. LOL Of course I did not directly insult you...You simply took it that way. You however did directly insult me.

Tim...if you actually knew what the facts were, you would be dangerous.
First off, I was not referring to the United States alone. I don't even live there.
And if you knew half as much as you profess, you would tell me why you believe the following statement.
Socialism, or pushing from the ground up, is smoke & mirrors economics, it looks good in the news and to those ignorant of basic economic principals, but doesn’t stand the test of simple mathematics.
I have studied, complex mathematics, and then studied economics. So why don't you enlighten us? Where are the errors that so many men and women have obviously overlooked. I refer of course to those who are researchers, professors, and generally those with PHD's.
Stop believing the BS that men like Sen. Joseph McCarthy spewed in the 50's...actually do some of your own research and try to see that a lot of what you think about Socialism is COMPLETLY and UTTERLY wrong.
BTW minimum wage is NOT a tenet of Socialism...DOH did I just burst your bubble of ignorance? Go and look at some of my recent posts...perhaps you will get a better idea of what Socialism really is. Not the vision that the uniformed and easily misled subscribe to.
The terms Conservate and Liberal do not follow party lines. If you are actually using the terms accorded by political science. In my country we have a Conservative and a Liberal party, however, they have often crossed sides in the course of a few decades. The labels that the parties choose for themselves are not truly indicative of what they believe. Nor is it an accurate statement to say the the Democrats are Liberals and the Republicans are Conservatives. More research for you to do on the terms Liberal and Conservative. Perhaps then you will actually see what many are trying to say.
This is just a further example of what Plato bemoaned as the biggest failing of Democracy.

Personally I would not move. I just moved here from Montreal to be with my family, so it is out of the question.
I don't even want to entertain the idea of a long distance relationship. I am too busy to try to work my schedule around another time zone. But, if and only if a really special person should happen along and be long distance, I might have to change my mind. LOL

Greed is a necessary part of what humanity is...it got us down from the trees, to the moon and will get us farther in the future. What the problem really is, is unmitigated greed.
Greed can be used in a socio-economic system, in fact, without it we would have much less innovation. As many capitalists say "greed is good", I agree but only to a point.

In Socialism you have nationalized industry, exhorbidant (sp?) taxes, HUGE social welfare programs, and inhibition to private enterprise
Again you are tallking about Communism...not Socialism. Please try to get it right. I made it my subject of study at university and I am rather knowledgeable on the topic.
Nowhere does Socialism mean nationalized industry. It is not even implied. Socialism is about providing everyone equal opportunity to succeed regardless of background. Healthcare, education, and other necessities are essential to success.
Socialist countries have at times had higher growth rates than the US did. However, the major benefit of a Socialist economy is that the huge swings in the Boom and Bust cycles that brought about the great depression and the recession of the 80's are moderated by the government who's mandate is to help keep people employed by creating demand, by contracting out (not doing it themselves) more public works, roads, schools, dams etc.
All the misconceptions around Socialism are, ie. extremely high taxes, no incentives, no growth, huge welfare state and so many more are not outcomes of the system, but mismanagement by government and can and do occur in most countries. In truth the governement does not want people on welfare, the socialist government wants everyone to work, it is considered a socialist mandate. Even an imperative, after all the people are the government and the government is the people.
Socialism, from what I can gather is just wealth redistribution
And that is the biggest misconception about Socialism that can be found.
Socialism is one of the most misunderstood forms of government in existence. Thanks to Sen. Joseph McCarthy, most people equate Socialism with Communism. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. The US is socialist to a degree.

Ignorance is bliss...and the ignorant conservatives who think that tax breaks that offer the rich so much are actually going to benefit them at all, complain about the ideals of Socialism without understanding it, or better yet, lable Free Market Socialism as a form of Communism are as blissfully ignorant as it gets.
What Conservatives don't realize is that even the United States is something of a Socialist nation, just not as far along the path as Canada or the Nordic countries in Europe.
What most of them really fail to realize is that Socialism is only about providing everyone an equal opportunity regardless of family income, everyone gets the same chance at a superior education, healthcare and other services. They fail to realize that this can actually benefit society as a whole including themselves. Thanks to people like McCarthy, Socialism has been branded as Communism, they are not the same at all. Socialism recognizes the fact that incentives are necessary for growth, ie. allowing people to make more money than their neighbors, enough to make it worthwhile to innovate, become a doctor, lawyer etc.
Socialism does not advocate paying everyone the same, controlling industry, controlling what products are produced, that is Communisim, and anyone with a decent understanding of Economics knows for a FACT that Communsism can not work ever.
Another interesting little fact that Conservatives seem to overlook is that without the so called 'Libs' there would be NO individual rights. As the Conservative mindset is usually very motivated by the 'I am better than others' attitude. This attitude is what allowed kings to rule and oppress entire nations, just like Great Britain did to the colonies that would become the United States of America. Were not the founding fathers 'Libs' ?
Is it just because the so called 'Libs' care about what happens to the poor, the downtrodden, and the oppressed that Conservatives don't like them?
I don't consider myself to be either a Liberal or a Conservative. I am interested in a system of government and services that benefits everyone. Where regardless of race, religion, economic background, or other qualifications, everyone has an equal opportunity and equal access to necessary services. I never vote according to any 'party lines', I vote for the candidtate who offers the best method of getting to what I firmly believe is the path to follow.

Rich / Poor/ Middle class as opposed to all equal which is what a Socialist country wants. Wealth is not a zero sum game....the 5% creates 80% of the jobs.
Not quite accurate. Consumption and need creates jobs. We all consume, we all need, therefore we all contribute to job creation.
Your statement is just more right wing economics and is just as far off as the idea that Communism can work.
Socialism is not about all being equal. It is about all having equal opportunity. That is a huge difference, what you referred to is called Communism.
Communisim and Socialism are not on the same side of the political spectrum. Nor the economic one. Socialism is still predicated on the ideal of Democracy. DOH...do some research before you start to sound like Senator McCarthy.

I see we do agree on a few important points.
I do, however, believe that, based on economic theory, the only way to attract better teachers is to pay them more money. That is an economic argument. For me it has nothing to do with the union. Personally I would never take a job as a teacher as the pay is far to low for my taste. The responsbilities and problems associated with being a teacher are not adequately compensated for me to consider it.
This is the same argument that the only way to attract a better leader (politician) is to pay them more money. For example, if we want the best men and women to lead our nation, instead of companies, we need to make politics more attractive to them.
Now that being said, there are obvious reforms that need to be made to the system and structure of remuneration for all public service employees. Teachers should not be allowed to simply go on strike and interrupt the school year. It has far reaching consequences that are extremely difficult to predict, and due to the fact that we are talking about our future (kids), we should not be taking any kind of risk.

Teachers occupy one of the singularly most important positions in our society. They teach our young so that they may take their place in society, improve the world, take care of us as we get older and so many other important issues.
Anyone that thinks that teachers deserve less money is wildly misinformed. We need to attract better teachers, the only way to do that is to pay them more money.
Mind you I also think that school should be in all year. There is so much more that we need to teach our kids before they get out in the world, that year round schooling makes sense to me. Obviously children need to have leisure time, I don't advocate exactly the same scenario that working people face. Kids need to have some vacation time, but they also need to learn that when they grow up they will work like the rest of us. Why not start teaching them a little more about that while they are in school?
With a longer school year we could offer more specialized educations to suit the needs of society. Instead of so many kids paying fortunes to go to tech schools we could teach some of them in high school.
Society has changed dramatically in the last 50 years. There is often no parent at home during summer working hours, there used to be. Now we may need to restructure school around our modern society.

Cats and Men ....
Posted:
10/13/2005 5:33:21 AM
I still have two cats, used to have as many as four. But now I have two, Leonard who is 13 months and Crunch who 2 1/2 years old. All my cats have been rescues, some from the streets directly, the rest from shelters.
They are friendly, playful, loving and somewhat attentive. All the cats that I have ever had in my life need attention, love, and human companionship, they crave it. When I am out for a night like Friday to Saturday afternoon they are rather upset with me because they miss me...
People seem to think that cats are aloof, standoffish, uninterested, but that is a direct consequence of being treated is such a way as to encourage this. If you want a cat who is friendly, loving, comes to you when you call them (mine do), sleep on the couch with you when you are sick, sleep at night on the bed (if that's what you like), talkative, it is fairly simple.
Just treat them like intelligent, loving creatures that deserve almost the same attention you would pay to a child. Talk to them, alot, pick them up, cuddle with them often, go out of your way to pay attention to them.
This will make them into the kind of cats that rival dogs as a man's best friend.
BTW I have had many dogs in my life too. I love them, but the loss of my last dog 9 years ago was too much to deal with. Aside from that I live in the city...

I think you might be confusing pot with some 'other' drugs there....
I have never once heard or seen anyone on pot manifest that which you described...
Stonger...that's a laugh
able to take more damage...you have to be kidding
usually dish out more too...that is really ridiculous
Pot smokers generally are rather laid back, not interested in violence, and LAZY while stoned. If they are using other drugs at the same time it is a completely different story. But then that isn't just pot now is it?
If you think you have seen disturbing things already at 21 I hate to tell you this...JUST WAIT...

You are really quite uninformed, and as selfish as I have seen...
If you just opened up your mind a little bit, you would see that there is an overwhelming amount of research done that shows we are having a seriously detrimental impact on the very planet that sustains us.
What the heck...if you don't like the way we try to protect it, why don't you just leave...
BTW...it is attitudes like yours that have helped to spawn Eco-terrorists, your attitude even helps convince people to give them money, as sometimes you can fight fire with fire.

Although I am not a supporter of the war...I think your statement is unfairly judging the men and women who are over there and doing a job...many of them are not happy with what they are being told to do...some are doing what the truly believe is right.
Nevertheless, they are HUMAN BEINGS too, and they deserve better treatment than the admonishments that you would heap upon them. You can't blame every soldier for what some general may decide to do. If that were the case we should have imprisoned every single German citizen after the end of WWII...
Don't forget that even Canadian soldiers have engaged in combat missions at one time or another that caused the deaths of innocent civilians. Would you treat our men and women so poorly?

Fair enough...but with a statement like
Why are Dems/Libs/Leftists against tax cuts?
Because somebody has to pay for social programs and it might as well be you.
I hope you could understand why I would think you are on the right.
Either way, should I be wrong, forgive my rush to 'judgement', perhaps it was a case of a thought that wasn't expressed in such a manner as to convey what you actually thought.
However, I still maintain that the 'right' is not so right. I am not exactly a leftist myself, based on the current definition. I am more of a 'free market socialist' which is something quite different. But education is a liberating endeavour.

Alcohol is THE gateway drug...
How many people who do hard drugs smoked pot before they had their first drink?
Most of us had our first drinks long before we tried anything like pot.
All this garbage about pot being a gateway drug is just minimising the issue of drug abuse.
I know lots of pot smokers who won't ever go near harder drugs. I imagine, although I don't know any, hard drug users don't smoke pot very often if at all.
If we want to discuss gateway drugs, ALCOHOL is the true gateway drug...plain and simple.
Pot smoking is a crime due to many misconceptions about the drug itself. It is not harmless, but neither are alcohol and tobacco. Both of those are quite legal and far more people suffer long term consequences from alcohol and tobacco use than I believe suffer from pot use.

May change and go into financial planning with Investors Group. That would give me the chance to do two things I love, talking to people and helping people reach their goals.
LOL. Then again, I may just stay in technology sales. At least I get my high tech gadgets cheaply. Even if the pay isn't that great anymore.

Have you seen it?
It sucks...the biggest disappointment I have had in the last 10 years. I was so hyped up to watch it, I couldn't wait. When I finally put it into my DVD player I thought, this is going to be great. The first 5 minutes were decent, but then it started to get worse and it had only a few really laughable points.
At least 3 times during the movie I kept saying isn't this over yet. It was really that much of a flop. It could have been so much better.
The only other movie that comes close to this epic failure to deliver was Star Trek Insurrection.

Canada has a national healthcare system and it works, not perfectly and their are some problems, but everyone has access. We also have an education system that provides easy access.
That is perhaps one reason why so many US companies come here specifically to reruit Canadian. High tech jobs and Nurses are very sought after when they graduate.
So I think healthcare can work. But at least you got part of the problem right. Corruption can and will destroy anything that is worth doing.
National healthcare is NOT supposed to make a profit. Otherwise it is called insurance. Try Blue Cross.

Think people are to stupid to take care of themselves, so we the government will take care of you. Playful your all over the place man, with no facts. Whats the Dutch unemployment rate? And your wrong about Reagan creating a recession, he inherited it from that incompetent boob from Georgia, Carter. Lets see, failed attempts at Socialism, USSR, Cuba, China, oh can't forget Nazi Germany, Iran, Iraq(formerly), and you might as well throw all of western Europe's butt in there too.
No, clearly you are not well educated on the subject of economics, nor political science. Those are the subjects that are being discussed.

There are many different types of love.
Love for friends
The love a parent has for their children
The love for a spouse
The love for a sibling
The love for 'god'
'god's' love for you
Ancient Hebrew has many different words for love that all mean something different.
But love is generally unconditional. But love can change over time. If you love someone, you will always love them. But it may change in intensity.
Love is alive, it grows, it changes, it needs to be nourished.

The Royal Military College at Kingston is awash with pride these days following the outstanding performance of its team at the annual Sandhurst international military skills competition held at the US Military Academy (USMA) in West Point
For the first time, the RMC team of nine officer cadets won the prestigious competition, finishing 11 points above the second place competitor from Great Britain. Canada competed against 45 teams from the US and Britain and prevailed against some of the fittest young men and women in the world. Since the competition began in 1967 this was the first time it was not won by a British team. Canada first took part in 1997.

I think that might suggest that we have a well trained armed services. This is only the Military College...
That is the last of my thoughts on this subject...I will always remain intensely proud of the men and women who serve my country.
And more than likely most of them are anti-war...as I believe most soldiers would be.

So what are you trying to say...
It sounds like you only want to insult Canadians and our armed forces...well keep at it.
Keep up the neighboorhood bully routine. It suits you well.
I have no further interest in being baited by your bashing of my country or the men and women here who serve. You seem to respect your own soldiers. Why can't you respect the soldiers of other nations that are in fact often on the same side of a conflict as your own?
BTW I edited my post after having read it...so perhaps you shouldn't be quite so quick to jump on what is said.

Facts are facts bulldogmedic...we still contribute more peacekeepers than most other Western nations. Our contribution has sagged somewhat in past years...I'll give you that.
Our army may not be the best equipped...but we surely are among the best trained...that is a fact.
We may have a small armed services. But we are proud of them, and they certainly do deserve it.
And I do know what has become of it...I personally would like to see that change somewhat. But it is not what the majority of people consider important enough.

hey Beachcomberben...
Nice to see we agree that extreme is extremely wrong...
See we don't always disagree...
That was simply put and simply brilliant...nicely done.
As far as iraq goes ... In the 2 wars with iraq they have killed over 100 000 children ( sanctions \ bombs ) Saddam did'nt even kill 5% of that number.
Unless you count the millions of Iranian boys who fought at the front against Saddam...many of them were as young as 14 if you believe what has been written about it. And thousands died...I don't know how many, but it probably surpasses 100 000.

Come to Halifax, Nova Scotia...you will see and meet many of the finest peacekeepers in the world. The pride of many in our nation. Including my sister. We stand proudly behind our men and women in the armed forces. Even if they are underpaid, they are still among the best trained in the world, and they have every bit as much pride as any other nation's armed forces.
Difference is most our men and women are anti-war. Possibly because we contribute more soldiers to peacekeeping duties than any other nation on earth.

Why are Dems/Libs/Leftists against tax cuts?
Posted:

Thats how the free market works, money will ALWAYS flow to the areas with the most return.
You mean with the best risk-reward ratio. The return is pointless if the risk is too high. If the return is too low the risk is meaningless.
Neo-classical economic theory suggests that the government should tax more when the economy is strong, and spend more when the economy is weak.
The rich only get richer when they sell what they bought (invested) for more than they paid for it. They buy when the market is down, ie weak economy, and sell when it is strong.
Government in a socialist state invests when the economy is down, and taxes when it is strong. Same principle. Just when the government does better we all do better....

Actually your wrong, trickle down worked beyond belief. Do you remember the booming eighties? You think the co presidents Bill and Hilary had anything to do with the nineties? There gonna hide there money anyway dufus. If the taxes are too high here, they'll move to another country with lower taxes? Jesus, this is like shooting ducks in a pond. It's almost effortless. Free market, free market! Not socialism. Socialism has never worked anywhere.
And your source for that tidbit that Socialism has never worked is what?
Can you say for a fact that there is only one type of Socialism? Do you truly understand what Socialism is?
There are many slightly different variations of Socialism in practice around the world. The Dutch have a very interesting one. They also have a pretty good economy. Does that not suggest that it might actually work in some form or another?
At one point in time, Democracy didn't work. Every single Democracy failed, was either over-run or simply collapsed. Does that mean Democracy doesn't work either?
I love it when someone with an inadequate education on a subject makes such sweeping statements like that. Just so much fun to poke holes in what they say...The true value of a good education is lost on so many overly opinionated people...
I remember it better than you. First Reagan's policies created a huge recession, then America got out of it with a consumer lead recovery (go back to the news stories at the time); this was exactly the opposite of what "trickle down" economics predicted. Business and rich people didn't start investing in the economy until it was booming again.
Try until the Government spent huge amounts of money to artifically improve the economy by leveraging the future. Think of it this way. If you have nothing today, but you borrow to acquire. Did you really earn all that stuff today? Or are you leveraging your future?

Wow...that is why I don't even watch the CBC here. They are pretty good, but too much is left out of the news. I also prefer to glean news from the internet. But some of what I find there is just so outlandish...lol
It's getting harder all the time to find the TRUTH in news reporting. It is falling on us to determine what is and isn't true...and that can be scary.
On Fox news O'Reilly had some big wig either from the NAACP or the ACLU I can't remember which and the guy was saying it was racist to call the evacuees refugees and O'Reilly was arguing that it wasn't
And that is just really funny...not funny haha but funny as in weird...lol

Morning after I like a cheese omelet...lots of coffee with cream and brown sugar...a couple of Aspirin helps to...
Of course the omelet is usually a bit shabby as I have to make it myself...lol

Ok, so with all these experts on the US in this forum...tell me how you would change the way things are right now...and make it better. Make US better and a country that others will respect.
Education instead of just opinion...
That could make the US the nation it has the potential to be...the most respected and admired country in history.

Yep, banning material is the best sign of a democracy.
It isn't banned...read what was posted. It has to specifically requested...DUH ! That still sounds quite democratic to me.
Perhaps I should dig up a list of banned books in your country, state, and local school system. Just to show you how uninformed and inflammatory your comments really are.
Blatantly biased? Hum. Just what abc, cbs-bs, and nbc has been for 40 years. Fox is just leveling the battle field. Most Americans are sick of the mainstream media feeding us the democratic party line.
Fox news, CNN...where America continues to be uninformed of the truth. If you want the truth you have to look beyond your own borders for news. Try BBC, CBC, or any number of other news outlets...most of the mainstream American stations simply pander to their audience as they have to make money. DUH...at least BBC and CBC are funded by their governments and can report the truth...the funding is pretty much unconditional.

Global Warming Said To Increase Hurricane Density

Dharma, I agree with much of what you said. I have been arguing those same points since the 1980's and it isn't any easier today. There is still so much resistance.
So I have to suggest to anyone that feels global warming, deforestation, and ozone layer depletion are just so much more hype, say goodbye to the nation of Tuvalu. Their entire country is about to vanish under rising seas.
check out some of the websites. Including the official government sponsered site. For all the naysayers, I included the CIA link just for you. Even the CIA suggests this nation may soon disappear.

More of this "Zionist" crap...OMG what kind of idiots are really out there?
That is just a further example of people with too much time on their hands and too little objectivity. They prefer to believe some fantastical story about a group of world dominating individuals who have abrogated our very rights. LOL
What a freaking joke that is. Just read a little more history and realize that there has always been a revolution by the proletariat when oppression (even financial) surpasses their ability to tolerate it.

@ bulldogmedic...
I don't know what you are trying to say about Canadian soldiers, I may agree that our military is woefully underequipped. However, our training is superior to most of the armed forces in the world.
As a matter of fact, I am willing to bet that my sister could kick your ass and any of your military friends at hand to hand, shooting, or just about any other event you could come up with. It might be a little unfair, afterall she is a marksman and her ex is a hand to hand combat instructor for the Navy.
So once and for all stop slamming Canadians or our soldiers. You don't like it when people insult US soldiers why do you think it is ok to do the same to us.
And why the h*ll do you think that US commanders in Afghanistan want Canadian snipers working with them, simple we are the BEST.
Now try to play nice with other people.
Back on the topic...
Only 100 people turned out to support the war...there must be lots more than that out there. I think there might be many times that number here on this website.

Gun owners. What are the laws in your particular state or country?

Also what you do not know is that the war vets that fought in WWII was allowed to keep the weapons they fought with. That means that there are people in Canada that legally own machine guns (proper name fully automatics). What do you say about that?
UH, show me the proof...is what I have to say about it.
My grandfather had to have his German Luger pistol converted. By order of the police. He had no ammo. It was a souvenir.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Toronto is where he used to live.

Woman don't email as much as guys, why?
Posted:

I think this thread may exist under a slightly different name. Try a thread search next time. You will find lots of possibly helpful responses that would otherwise be missed.
I can suggest that perhaps these women who are not responding may have many different reasons. Not sure what to say, they are currently starting to date someone new, perhaps they weren't impressed enough by your email to respond. There are so many possible reasons. All I can tell you is not to take it personally. Even if you see the email marked 'unread deleted' it really doesn't mean anything.
Just keep trying and remember the men outnumber the women here by something like 4 to 1. So for them it is a 'buyers market'. Forgive me for that analogy but it is rather apt.
Best of luck. Craft your emails a little more personally and don't take anything the wrong way. One of the best ways to meet people on this site is to post in the forums. You can usually find a local forum that fits where you live. Try posting there and see if you can find someone with a similar interest, and maybe they will find you.

Jordanne...I bet that guy will be single for a long time. And if he isn't I pity the fool that dates him...hahaha
There are so many people online that there must be someone for everyone. It may just take some time to find them. I have been on here since April. I have met many wonderful people and I continue to meet and get to know some great people.
One of these days I will find, or develop the kind of relationship that I am looking for, as will anyone who wants to put the effort into finding that special person. Who knows when it is going to happen, or where, that is anybody's guess...
Good luck to all, and more importantly, I hope everyone can find the patience to keep looking even when it may seem pointless...
Good
to all.

KK...what do you consider an interesting guy?
I always thought I was at least a little bit interesting...but maybe my profile doesn't convey that properly.
Or are you simply referring to guys in your age group?
I am pretty active on the forums, but more often than not it is the current events forum that I frequent.

Funny pet stories

My little cat hides under the couch and tries to trip the dogs whenever they walk by...big game for them...then they go running around the house after each other. Lots of noise and bouncing off furniture. Funny as heck sometimes. The older one gets on top of the cupboards in the kitchen, 8 feet off the ground and sits there watching the world go by...every now and then he speaks and everyone has to look for him...

Does the Size of the Diamond Matter?
Posted:
9/30/2005 7:23:25 AM
Two things many people aren't aware of...
1) Diamonds are extremely plentiful...DeBeers has tons (thousands of pounds) of diamonds in their warehouses
2) Buying any diamond increases the overall price (supply and demand) this inadvertenly increases the price of 'Blood Diamonds' those that are mined by child slave labour and used to buy weapons
I would never buy a diamond...If I was to give a ring to a lady it would be another precious stone that does not further the slave labour market. Emeralds, topaz, rubies are much better choices. They also retain their value MUCH longer than diamonds do.

(*cough*, *cough*, Laffar Curve, *cough*, *cough*, Blow Job!, *cough*, *cough*!)
Although I am impressed you quote the Laffer Curve (that is the correct spelling), please elaborate on what your sentence was supposed to mean.
The Laffer Curve is a simplistic but accurate principle that states that as tax rates increase to a certain level tax revenue will increase, but above a certain level tax revenue will diminish.
ie... 0% tax rate yeilds 0$ revenue... 100% tax rate yields 0$ revenue. The curve bows upward from those two extrema with revenue on the Y axis and tax rate on the X axis.
There is no arguing that the Laffer Curve is indeed a principle that illuminates the problem of taxation rates. Setting the ideal level is a much more complicted process than this curve suggests. There are many other factors to consider. There is the short-run and long-run Laffer Curve. That is however beyond the scope of many on this forum as it explores post graduate economic theory.
Have you ever heard the saying that "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing"?
